Hi,We take backups of VMs by installing VSA on VM and using hotadd transport mode (mount of VMDK of VM to backup into VSA proxy). The VMDK data are then sent, through the LAN, from the VSA proxy to physical media agents containing disk space.Now, I am looking for the restore process. Is the restore process as follows:Restore VM data from Media Agent to VSA Proxy using the LAN The VSA Proxy mounts the VMDK of the VM to be restored (even if we need to restore a single file?) The VSA Proxy sent the data to restore (file/folder or VMDK) to the VM to be restored using hypervisor mechanism? Many thanksRegards

There is a related topic regarding my question but I don’t feel it was adequately answered:  Essentially there is a conflict in documentation regarding versioning and how object locking works. Firstly the public cloud architecture guide for AWS states that bucket and object versioning is not supported in Commvault (p. 85 of AWS Cloud Architecture Guide - Feature Release 11.25 (commvault.com))However, when enabling object locking in AWS, versioning is enabled by default on the bucket and objects - it is by design. Morning,We’re moving to ONTAP 9.10, which means only SnapDiff v3 is supported.  In the CommVault docs I can only really find what CommVault versions support v3, nothing really about what needs to be configured.I’ve seen from other topics here, that our commvault user needs an “access tokens” role on the NetApp, is there anything else that we need to look out for?Thanks.

Backup has completed with partial success for VM with below error. do we consider the backup as completed or not when we have below error.what does it use when we have CBT disabled, is the backup consistent and restorable. [Failed to enable changed block tracking [Change tracking cannot be enabled when snapshots are present]].

I received this message from a customer…We would like some information on the refresh Datacenter option for VM backups.               This looks to have resolved one of our issues with VM tags recently.We are trying to determine whether the following happens. Does this occur normally on a regular basis? How often should we run it manually? What is being done when it is run? What is the impact of it running? How often should we run this? Can / should we workflow this to run regularly?Thank you

Hello Everyone,Hope you are all doing well. Has anyone worked on restoring a full VM from Azure to Azure with Commvault using automation. Here’s our scenario, we have VMs in Azure and commvault backs them up in Azure (cold storage blob) and with commvault we have restored VMs in another vnet successfully. Now I am working on researching if we can automate most of the steps. We created an isolated environment in Azure thru terraform, so that’s automated, now I want to automate restores thru code either by workflow or scripting, has anyone done this before? Can someone please help me in this regards. Thank you.

Hi, We are currently running 11.24.48. After the upgrade from 11.24.29 to 11.24.34, I was unable to log in to the Commcell Console using my AD admin account.Web Console works fine, and I can log in there without any problems.For the time being, the only way to log in to Commcell Console is using a local admin account. Is there a parameter or a setting that prevents us using our AD credentials since 11.24.34? Upgrading to 11.24.48 hasn’t solved this issue.Thank you,Zoltan

I am looking for a comparison between Windows and Linux media agents. I have done some testing between the two and not seeing anything that will make me say “Yes, we need to do Linux now!” I am actually seeing that I would have to deploy additional infrastructure for items like Live Browse if I went to Linux as Windows proxies would be needed.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi there, have you ever seen in the Job Controller view, that there are some Aux copy jobs on 99% (progress bar) for a couple of days? Moreover, Estimated Completion Time says Not Applicable. However, Application size and Total Data Process number is slightly increasing during the time. And of course, aux copy jobs are in therunning state. My assumption is and it looks like that there are still some jobs needed to be copied from the primary to the secondary policy copy. Is it possible? And is it worth to wait for the job completion or better to kill the job.

We are about to decommission few VMs out of about two hundreds running on a vCenter, therefore we are planning to stop backing up them, but we would like to save the latest full backup for six months. How would you do that?One idea could be to create a dedicated subclient with the VMs being decommissioned, associate it with a new storage policy with six months retention copy and finally run a manual full backup.Is there any better (and smarter) option?Thank you!Gaetano

We are needing to remove Commserve and MediaAgents from the Windows Domain.I found the below post in the community. I was wondering if anyone had actually done it and what was your experience? I can not find anymore documentation than just this one post. Does anyone have a more detailed step by step instruction and any pitfalls to lookout for? Hello, I have a subclient named Bronze (Vmware client), backed up with Storage policy SP-Bronze since 1 year no issue.We make incremental daily backup, One weekly synth full backup.a week ago, I changed the Storage policy to SP-Bronze2.I ran a full backup manually > OK, incremental daily works good but when the synth full occur in the week, I have this error message Error Code: [62:396]Description: Error writing to the media.Source: pcpl98a00j, Process: cvd Thanks !

Hello Commuinity,We tried to restore a MySQL DB on Linux machine. Backup fails with showing an error (See the image), but we can see the restore job completes only the log restore had been failed.Job Details We initially disable/stop the mysql services from the restoration machine (Restoration will not start if the services are up).However, in the log files we can see the restoration succeeded. “Log restore” logs were not in the view log file.Logs from view logs

I had a virtual server that Commvault has been backing up for awhile now disappear.  Is there any way to track down how this happened or who would have done it?  I have run the Deleted Virtual Machines report and it doesn’t show up on the list.  

Hello community ! I try to find a way to send only weekly and monthly backups to a secondary storage (Azure Blob Storage) from a Primary Storage Policy that haves only daily backups (7 days retention).I see from Aux-Copy wizard, that the only way is to create a Selective Copy with only full backup jobs. So, basically to copy only synthetic fulls once a week in my case.But, I cant figure it out, how to copy also monthly jobs!Please for your feedback!Best regards,Nikos

Hi Guys, We are using partitioned DDBs running on 2 media agents in the environment on the Azure VMs. Our current Deduplication setting on GDSP level is to seal and start a new DDB in case of any DDB corruption instead of Recover Pause and Recover current DDB. Also the option to “Allow jobs to run to this copy while at least 1 partition is online” is not selected.  Just wanted to check what is the best practice for partitioned DDBs as per Commvault.CS : Azure VMPrimary Library : Azure BLOBSecondary : Metallic
