I have changed the content of one subclient (new data paths). I used till now the sequence Synthetic Full & Incremental Backups. Do I need to perform the Full Backup (in order to cover the changes) before I switch again to the original sequence Synthetic Full & Incremental? I’m pleased about every tip! :-)

I’m getting the error message when making a backup of a Windows VM “Failed to enable changed block tracking [Change tracking cannot be enabled when snapshots are present]”I cannot delete this old snapshot because I need this version of the VM. Do you know any way to make backups of the VM without snapshot so I can use here “Changed Block Tracking” again?

Hi Community, This is my first post on the community.  We are looking to backup SharePoint Online through Commvault, but I’m unsure how to go about this?  Is it done through the Commcell itself or can it be done through the Web Console.  I don’t see Solutions\Applications\Office365 to do it this way.  if anyone has a step-by-step guide it would be greatly appreciated. Kind regardsTony

We backup all of our O365 group mailboxes with the exchange mailbox agent and the dynamic content „All O365 group mailboxes“.We configured modern authentication. If a backup is running, then commvault will add the service account as a member to every O365 group without an owner or only disabled owners. This does not happen for groups with a valid owner. Can anyone explain, why this happens? In the job log I found only „GetO365GroupOwnerAny - Found 0 owners for groups“.

Hi Team, I have a HyperScale with 6 node cluster in on-prem for primary copy. For Secondary copy I need to move the data to Cloud (Archive Storage).My doubt is, when I am creating the Cloud Storage Pool, Do I select the existing (On-Prem) de-dup path (/ws/ddb/P_1/Copy/_21/Files/31) ( or) Do I need to create a dedicated the dedup path in the on-prem MAIf I need to option 2, then what is the recommended dedup partition value and reason behind that?  And also share the your best practice for hybrid data protection, if any.  Thanks,Manikandan

Is it possible to override default vCenter FREL for guest file restore in Command Center? It seems to be Commcell Console-only option.Also, it would be great if we could add FREL to a VM Group (same as we can add Access Nodes).Using single/default FREL in multiple-cluster vCenter can be technically impossible. SW: 11.22.9Thanks! 

How can I just make backups to tape Perm, once a month? Can I set retention to 0 days?

Short version of the question: Does modifying a file in Commvault reset the 1-year retention?In our environment I have daily incremental that roll into a weekly synth full that roll into a monthly synth full. That monthly is kept for 1 year so at any given point I have 12 months of Monthly synth full jobs.Our retention is set to 1 year.  “For 365 days Keep Monthly Full”So I create a file on 01/01/21 and the daily incremental job runs 01/02/21 and backs the file up.It then should be part of the weekly synth job and then part of the monthly synth full job for January, correct?That file then would be available (unless modified) until January 2022 when the next monthly synth full runs, Correct?The question that was asked is unless a file is modified will it expire after 1-year?If the file is modified on 9/1/21 then it would go through the daily incremental > weekly synth full > monthly synth full and retained until the 9/1/22 job ra

Hi , i try to perform a granular restore from a MS SQL  i‘ve  systematicallyt his error : “Granular restore is supported for blocklevel and snap backup. database selected doesn’t qualify for SQL granular restore i enable block-level backup ( Optimized for File system with large number of small files (Block-LevelBackup  check box) in subclient.i try with VSS and not. i checked prerequisites and all is done.i missed soemthing ?thanks for help

I’m setting up Activate to hopefully use for my company for file share optimization.  My initial storage which was about 600GB is space is now full.  I have not been able to determine in the configuration settings how to modify or add new storage to the current index.  I’ve even attempted to create a new index server but it will not let me use the same node (media agent) as before so that I can assign new storage.  In this case the local F: drive.  Does anyone know where the configuration is for me to modify the target of Activate index files?

I’ve configured  MS SQL VMs in Hyper-V for AppAware backups in Commvault 11.22.3. As detailed on docs.commvault.com an automatic log backup schedule is created and log backups proceed as planned.In the CommCell Console I can only find them through the client > ‘SQL Server’ > instance > ‘default’ subclient, right-clicking Schedules. They’re shown with an empty Schedule Policy name.They’re not shown in the Schedule Policies section, nor in the Scheduler, so no easy way to manage multiple ones at the same time. What am I missing?

Hello,Any smart ideas on how an MSP could delegate Plan choice on a per VM / DB / FS / etc..  level?    E.g.  have customer choose the right Bronze/Silver/Gold plan for VM’s, databases, etc.Command center obviously has the functionality to assign plans, but… it involves dealing with creating individual subclients first etc, since that today is where you can apply a plan to. In my situation, the IAAS infrastructure is shared, and data is organized into subclients from an infrastructure point of view (datastore, cluster, resource pools, etc).    This infrastructure is shared across different customres.Customers don’t have access to the hypervisor/subclients on CommVault for obvious reasons. Creating subclients per VM (by the MSP), just so that you could assign an individual plan to is obviously not the right way to go. (scalability, performance, scheduling, burden/overhead on the clients & infra).Looking forward to any sugges

Hi folks, I have a question and or rather willing to have a discussion and sharing information about how we can minimize our efforts of clicking. Possibly share scripts that we have developed and help each other out on daily tasks. We all know that Java GUI has a lot of ways to do the same and it also involves a lot of clicking.  For example, I was able to find and adapt qscripts, qoperations and API for quite a few good daily ops in my scripts, automation:Get clients associated to specific Client Group; Get Client Group to which specific server belongs; Add / Remove client from specific Client Group Start / Stop media agents maintenance mode DIP’s operations (enable/disable/remove/add) Commcell activity (Enable/Disable) Finding duplicate clients between our commcells And sure, all of it depends on the level of competence in automating, but Commvault being ‘old

Hello Everyone We run a frequent patching schedule and we are asked to make sure that we have latest backups available for those servers. These servers belong to multiple subclients and we are at the moment manually triggering the incremental backups for those subclients and this takes time as we have to initiate the backup of whole subclient even if only one VM is being patched out of those lets say 20 VMs.What is the best way to approach this without moving the VM out of the subclient.? Or is it possible to trigger incremental backups for selective VMs inside a subclient. We are at SP20. Thank You 

We are running on V11 SP19 and all our media agents are running on Windows 2016Initially AUX copy performance was at peak 3TB/hr to 7TB/hr, gradually it performance degrade and now AUX copy job running at  300GB/hr to 500GB/hr. One this I found DDB verification job is not completing at all. Any support much appreciated

We plan on adding new ESXi (VMware) vCenters to our existing environment. During this our Virtual admins will be adding a couple at a time and then moving the existing VMs over so we will have the old ones in place and new ones.I know I will have to deploy and configure the new vCenter (VSA) client and add the hosts and we use Folders. So the Folder names will be mirrored in the old and new existing vCenter environments. With all that being said how will Commvault treat the first backup on the new vCenter clients? Will they be considered full because they are on new hosts or will it see the existing data and only treat it like an incremental because of how the Global Dedupe policy works? I am curious because if everything is a “full” I won’t have the capacity.Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks.

Question: What are the pros and cons of using the “Use VSS” setting in the sql server instance properties.What is the real difference between traditional backup methods and vss full backups when using NetApp and Intellisnap to backup MS SQL Instances?

Is this to be able to see the check box on the media agent or is this a report. If it is a report is can someone please share a sample output of it please?

Does Commvault have the ability to backup image a physical device? One of our physical computers computers just had a false quarantine hit it due to our AV. Now our machine is corrupt and we have no image of the machine and need to reinstall and configure the software. Normally, I would just use something like Ghost or Accronis but I am thinking of how I can use Commvault to doe the same.

Also what should one observe in the network summary on the commcell level to verify that these settings “automatic tunneling and encryption for network traffic”  are in place?
