Hi,I have recently been asked if it is possible to restore SQL System Databases without restoring all User Databases in the same SQL instance?I thought this could be possible in CV however I cant find any way to do so via Web/Java console, only user Databases are listed when attempting to find master, model and msdb.. Any help or thoughts on this would be great appreciated.

As a first step we are planning to go for MCSS databox seeding.So we will have 1 Databox ordered for each site to copy the data from disk library to databox and then we are planning to ship it to MCSS based on the below steps:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/expert/147072_seeding_metallic_cloud_storage.htmlEach site has dedicated media agent which we will be using for primary backups and the same media agent will be used of secondary copy to MCSS.Hence customer has purchased 230 TB of MCSS cool tier license. Since we have 6 sites we cant use the MCSS from same region we will be in a position to use multiple regions during the MCSS library configuration.With this scenario explained, I have below questions:Am I good to create 1 MCSS library with 6 mount paths pointing to different regions? or I should create six different MCSS library for each region? Will I be able to create 6 MCSS

Hi Community, This is for the workflow guys. I’m trying to implement something to automate a VM power on/off, the VM is VMware based (ESXi) and is an MA.I want my scenario to be something like this, when the VM is powered OFF :Check readiness of the VM. If the VM is powered off, then power it on. Execute my aux copy When job finished successfully, power off the VM.Some needed workflows required some inputs, that I struggle where I can find them, like the ones below :Any help or recommendation on how to implement this would be appreciated. Regards

Any advice to install a commserve on a linux host? We checked this article https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/expert/132365_commserve_server_system_requirements_linux.html  and installed all packets and SW.We have tested to install on linux 8.4, 8.3 and 7.7 and the option to create a new commcell or install commserve never appears. We have also tested with version 11.25 and 11.26.  

Hello all, I have a question about my aux copy behaviour.We use S3 type storage on site for our backups and aux these to an private cloud provider. I’ve noticed that in the aux copies certain clients jobs will consistently be skipped. Initially I thought the issue was bandwidth as the aux copy never completed. We have improved the bandwidth and throughput is much better now, however the aux copies are still not completing. If I go to the secondary copy and show jobs (unticking time range and excluding “available”) I will have a number of jobs going back weeks, with none of the jobs from that client showing partially available (implying it is part way through copying). Interestingly, today I have started the aux copy with “Use scalable resource allocation” UNTICKED, and those old jobs have immediately been picked up and started copying.Anyone have any ideas why this would be? Hey all - can someone explain this statement in the Cloud Architecture Guide for AWS (page 29)?Do not utilize an on-premises MediaAgent to perform Auxiliary copy as Cloud egress costs (S3 Pricing >) will be incurred.We have customers doing this very thing and one is having an issue with high egress charges.  We are not sure that the charges are from Commvault but want to make sure.  The customer turned off data verification but that did not make a difference.  They are writing Oracle logs directly to the cloud library (instead of primary onsite) and are very tight on hard drive space and have a lot of index restores happening but I don’t see either of those things causing large Egress.  The index restores would come from the primary onsite copy.Can someone point me in the right direction on if there are other things with this aux copy that could cause egress?Thanks!Melissa

Is there any downside to using multiple channels (data streams) for Oracle RMAN backups when client-side deduplication is configured?  i.e. is deduplication negatively impacted vs using a single channel.Thank you.

I’ve inherited commvault from our previous admin. They’ve done a pretty decent job about documenting some items but it hasn’t been updated in years.  We’ve been playing cat and mouse with backups and dealing with upper management not wanting to purchase more storage, and they want an easy answer on what is eating up all of our storage, what's being backed up, what's not, and why we would need a 500k storage upgrade. And obviously licensing is an issue as well. I want to also preface this with our company has finally drawn up a retention policy so were not keeping junk that's over 10 years old anymore. We handle sensitive information as a government contractor, so all of our storage is on prem. No cloud instances. I have 3 storage pools and a disaster recovery site in another state. I was trying to setup LDAP commcell->security. I do have port open but getting an error while setup.so I was concerned if it is possible to setup LDAP/AD under to commserve which is laid under a workgroup?

Hi, When checking the documentation, and the cmmandcenter, for installing Mongodb backups we only see the possibilty for adding mongodb clusters.but on our end, we only have a single instance mongodb installations. Does that mean we cannot backup the mongodb with commvault?  https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/99404_configuring_mongodb_client.html

Hi,  Does anyone has seen/been able to solve the following error. Reason: <There was error during initialization of information from input XML / local registry.> I have a cluster instance with 2 nodes. The nodes are online and i can make a back-up of the file system. But the Cluster Instance can't update/connect to nodes somehow. (add nodes to cluster in CommVault). This is the error i am getting so far. I deleted the nodes in the cluster instance and force sync, then added and force sync, still the same error remains as it is.   

I'm new to data backups. I apologise if my questions are too simple. Would the process of creating a Microsoft SQL backup include copying data records from a SQL Server database, or would it copy the entire image of the data volume (logical partition)? How does commvault locate the partition containing the database? Should I take a volume level backup in addition to a SQL data backup in case it isn't done as part of the process?

After end of the year schedule ran we lost all currently backup data for that day DAY and this incident happen to SQL DBsjobs that was selected to run AUXILLARY COPY too was clear and from the history did not show any job ran that day why.am suppose to see history of backup job for sql backup for 2021 /12/30 to 31 jobs that ran but to my suprise all job history was wipe out.

The DB backed up with PTL was restored to the recovery server. (Network, using Backup Server MA)Different drives were used for backup and recovery.No issues occurred during the backup.The following message is output with a Failed unmount error during the recovery process:The path is being accessed by another application.Advice : please make sure that no other device explorer application like SAN explorer are running on the machine.PTL devices are used by Commvault only.I would appreciate it if you could advise me on what to check to resolve the issue.

Hello,I have a tape that appears to be stuck in one of the library drives. The tape itself  reports that it is stuck in the drive. I have tried the Clean / Reload / Unload Drive options to do effect. I also restarted the Quantum tape library to see if that helps, again no luck.     Cheers  

Hello All,I have one physical Commserve which acts as media agent. The JBOD is mounted to commserve as direct attached storage which acts as disk library.Now I want to separate the media agent, disk library by moving the commserve module to new VM.How to separate the media agent, disk library, ddb?Will I be able to uninstall the commserve module from exisiting commserve and install the commserve module on new VM. Post cs installation I am planning to use CSrecoveryassistant to restore the DR dump on new VM to being back the environment online.With the above steps done, my old commserve continue to be only media agent and new vm acts as commserve.Will this work?RegardsAnanth
