I read that its advisable (but not required) to update the commserve MSSQL DB to 2019, but this can always be done later.I heard that when updating Oracle clients (or clients that have Oracle on them), the upgrade of the CommVault client will restart the Oracle database.  I’m not seeing this specified anywhere, but here: Planning Feature Release Installations (commvault.com) its mentioned “Prepare block-level clients for restart after feature release installations”… but, how do I determine what is block level and what is not?  Are Oracle clients ( or SAP for Oracle) “Block level” by default?Are there any other things to consider that are known special things for this upgrade, of any “restarts’ of apps on servers being backed up (like oracle) being restarted/impacted by a co

HiI’m trying to do a 1-Touch restore on Linux, but we do not have DNS in the network used for restore.Is it possible to exit the YAST2 configuration and edit the host file before continue?(I need to add some DNS addresses to the /etc/hosts file).I know there is a feature for Windows, where F6 will bring up the CMD, which have solved the problem on that platform. Hope you can help.

Hello Community,We would like some clarification about the application sizes that are reported in the command center for the O365 apps.When looking at directly an exchange application (see screenshot 1), we can find a value for associated entities and a value for application size. It seems that the associated entities are related to the number of mailboxes protected. But what is the exact definition for the value reported under “Application size” ? Is it the cumulativ total size protected since the beginning of backups ? or is it the size at instant t of exchange data on the tenant ?When looking at the chargeback details report for the same client (which has only one exchange online client configured) (see screenshot 2), we don’t find the same values. There is a FET size which is less than the Application size reported at the client level, and the mailbox count is only 46, while there are 67 mailboxes backed up.Does someone know the exact definitions of t

Hi All,I am running CommServe in VMware. I have noticed that the CPU load is continuously rising.In five days after startup it linearly rose from 1.2 GHz to 8 GHz. After restart it fell back to 1.2 GHz but is rising again.Memory consumption is increasing too.CommServe version is 11.26.8.Top CPU consumer in Task Manager is “Apache Commons Daemon Service Runner” / “Commvault Content Extractor (Instance001)”.No jobs are running since yesterday - scheduler has been disabled (it is demo installation). Any ideas? Regards,Lubos

Hello community !Our organization consist of one main AD domain, and several groups, faculties and institutes (i.e departments).At many of these sub-division we have backup admins who needs to be in control of the backup of their machines. ( i.e Tenant Admins)Since Company is the only organizational unit in Commvault my initial thought was to assign separate companies to the departments, but I have been unable to find a way to assign several Companies to the same identity server (Active Directory) with group separation. Does anyone know any best practice/advice on how to divide a huge AD with lots of OU’s and groups into a viable organization structure in Commvault ? Kjell Erik Furnes  

After moving the index server to a new server, some users have STUBS with an incorrect link - i.e. the host has not changed.Please help, how can this be changed for the entire organization?I will be very appreciate for help.  

Install software is failing on our side with the following error Error Code: [68:192] Description: Software Cache is empty or does not contain the packages required for client's operating system. i tried download/copy software option and job is completed without errors but still facing the above same issue in the install software.

We do a DR test every year and most of our servers are Virtual which makes it SUPER easy.  However we have 2 servers that are physical.  Last year I had an issue once I got Commvault finally installed on the new physical server and named the server the same name and IP and everything as what is on our production system I couldn’t get it to connect with commvault to restore to.  Its possible there was issues at the facility, but I am wondering best practices for how to make this work smooth.  Should we be adding commvault to a blank server and then connecting it back in with the same name or add the server as a generic name and push software to it from commvault and then rename it to what our system normally sees.  I hope this makes a little sense and is not just a rambling question, if so forgive me for that one.  Thanks for all the help.

What variation happens in licensing? If a user is the owner of more than 5 devices, is still one endpoint license counted for this user? Hi community!We just started to use the Commvault Command Center, is there a possibility to create a 1 touch response xml file from the web interface?As we also backup our windows PCs in production with commvault, this would give the shift leaders an opportunity to restore their machines (in case of a disaster), by simply creating a response file, copy it to a 1 touch provisioned usb drive, and exchange the hdd before starting to restore.

I was wondering if the flashback command is or isn’t supported once backups are moved into Commvault, particularly if not, then does Commvault mimic that functionality? I was told that this command isn’t able to be used and as we are doing a PoC of these agents, nothing turns up in any searches of the documentation.thanks

Hi Team,If we use third party Key management server such as AWS KMS with Commvault , will there be any impact on backups and recovery throughput or performance .Iam assuming that Encryption keys retrieval is faster when its present in CS database as compared to retrieve keys from third part KMS  ? Let me know if my understanding is not right .Also , during a backup or recovery job does encryption keys retrieval from CS DB or third party KMS happen only 1 time or it will be continuous for each and every block/chunk ?

Hello All, We are working on encrypting all of our jobs (backups) via software encryption on the policies. While setting it up I was curious on how the option “No Access” works. Would we be given the option to store the decryption key somewhere else or is it all stored in Commvault regardless? If it is stored in Commvault how do we get to the key to save it for later decryption use. I know “Via Media Password” has it stored in the library and now I wonder if it is possible to get to that decryption key as well. Thank you all for the help!
