Hello guys, can you help me with a topic,I need to add a kvm environment to be backed up in commvault, currently there is already an ovm environment, but I don't know if I need to add more licenses, there are 17 virtual machines in that environment.
I want to recover the db backup of the exchange server backed up in tape format to the migrated commcell. The migration went well through ccm, and now I'm trying to insert tape and restore the exchange server db backup, but they say they can't load the backup data. The tape library that was previously usedThe tape library currently used after migration is different
aux copy job was suspended at 98 % but when resumed its 70% or some jobs from 45 to 25% why the job is not resuming where it suspended ?
Hello, we are having problem with an aux copy job during the night. It fails with an error Failure Reason: Error occurred while replicating snaps [ 100.64.80.90:SP_2_3754640_366032_], for storage policy [DC04_Oracle_DC03] copy [2-toVault] MediaAgent [de03comwisp]: Backup Job [3754640]. Hello All. I’ve hardware refreshed a commserve on a new host. Build 11.32.23. I’ve installed a new media agent also at 11.32.23 and duplicated the packages installed in the old media agent it is eventually replacing. The old media agent has “Exchange Mailbox (Classic) ida” installed and is visible under the client in the commcell browser. The new media agent has ‘Exchange’ package installed; this is visible in the ‘properties > version’ tab. In the commcell console, commcell browser, under the client for the new media agent, I see some ida’s (fs ida, VSA ida) but not any Exchange ida. In the properties of the new media agent client, I select the option to release licenses, just to see what licenses are consumed, there is only fs and vsa. When I run an install software job for the new client, “Exchange” is greyed out so there is no ability to install. Though the customer is not using the exchange classic agent any longer, backup activity is disabled on the subclients for it, there
Hi. At the moment we have commvault backups setup to backup NAS SMB shares. For that we have Windows VM as Data Access Node.Do we need to setup another Data Access node (linux based) to be able to backup NAS NFS shares, or is there a way to use existing Windows VM Data Access Node?I inherit commvault from another team and didn’t get much training on it, so consider me a newbie. ;)
Hello everyone, I'm seeking guidance and advice on configuring the replication of a Poweri server with Linux to another server using Commvault. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Questions:What are the best practices for configuring Commvault for Poweri server replication with Linux? Are there specific considerations we should be aware of when setting up replication on Poweri servers? What aspects of Commvault should we configure to ensure effective replication? Are there any specific Commvault documentation or resources you recommend for this scenario?Any suggestions, experiences, or advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and support!
Hi Vaulters,I am new to Commvault and I am trying to use REST API to install DB2 on a client computer. This is what I have done and found so far:1.I first used XML file generated by “Save as script” in Commcell console installation process and the JSON version of it, and used /InstallClient API which, according to the REST API reference, installs packages on a new client or an existing client. However this only gave a 500 error and no more information was provided. (The file is attached as File1.txt)2.Then I tried to imitate the json sample given in the API reference of /InstallClient (https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/130184_rest_api_post_install_client_associations.html) but the same 500 error code was returned. I think there are many important fields for DB2 that are never covered in the API reference. (This json request is attached as File2.txt)3.After combining the content from 1. and format in 2., I somehow wrote a request accepted by the system and a job was laun
Good day peeps, I would like to discuss immutable storage and the need of off-prem 3rd copy :)Having immutable storage with both primary and secondary copies in on-prem storage is well and good from a perspective of faster restores. But they are still on-prem. So there is connectivity, own DC’s, thus meaning that if I have access - someone else can have access. Would that be a hack at software level or access gained inside the DC physically, or some disasters to our own DC’s.We could help manage connectivity aspect with air-gapping that CV has described with it’s workflows or scripts, other set back of that is that copy could take few or more hours to finish, depeding on size of the data.. If you are doing such air-gapped copy daily - you are frequently open. If you are doing such copy 1 a week - you are open for long period of time if your data to copy is not small. From all of the above, 3rd copy seems quite needful? What would you think the best setup would be for 3rd copy to off-pre
How can we backup CIFS shares directly from a storage appliace using Commvault . We use Hyperscales appliances as Mediaagents for all of our storage policies. Until now we were using NDMP backups for these shares but now are moving away from Netapp.
Team, in the commcell in question the commservedr aux copy schedule seems to be system created and hidden. To that point, so is the data protection schedule for the primary copy. On the tape synchronous copy, there are extended retention rules for monthly and yearly. Those jobs picked for copy are to be retained infinitely and each need to be on their own tape, with no jobs from other months on the tape in question. Typically, the way to ensure this is to go into the schedule and select the options “start new media”, “mark media full on success”. Because the commservedr storage policy schedule for the aux copy seems to be a hidden system created schedule policy I can’t enable these options. How would I do this ? Is there a commcell level registry value to make the system created aux copy schedule for the commservedr policy visible (and hopefully editable)?thank you!
Hello All.I’m a bit confuse about the DDB usage on Cloud Archive storage. From the Cloud Storage Building Block documentation…https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/139246_combined_storage_tier.htmlhttps://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/139247_archive_storage_tier.html...we can see Deduped and non-deduped are allowed. But from the Cloud Storage Best Practices it is strongly not recommended:DDB Backup on CloudMake sure that the cloud storage library does not have an Archive Object Storage class selected. DDB backups are not recommended on Archive Object Storage, like S3 Glacier/Deep Archive, Azure Archive and Oracle Archive. What are the reasons behind this strong recommendation?Tks in advance guys.Eddiie
Hello everyone, We have an environment that consists of more than 100 VMs with a significant amount in TB in total. Analyzing the documentation https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/1661_hardware_specifications_for_virtual_server_agent.html, it only informs the sizing of the VSA and its capacity for FET.We have implemented 1 VSA with the Medium specification, however, when running some Jobs, we noticed that only 5 VMs at a time are executed and this is the number of Data Readers for VMs Groups for all hypervisors standard, as mentioned in the documentation: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023/essential/107675_default_number_of_data_readers_for_vm_groups.html Also, the transport mode is mixed, some VMs are using nbd others are using hotadd.Because of this, we are concerned that the backups of this environment will take too long to protect the entire environment. So, thinking about this scenario, I was left with doubts about the number of VSAs needed to implement in the e
Hi, Anyone have any idea on what is the limitation on number of VMs per subclient can be configured?Regardless of number of readers/writers available, this is for VMware environment. I couldnt find any information on BOL nor Google. Thanks and regards,Lee
We currently have an 3 tier architecture with Vmware 7.0 and vcenter 7.0 with the commvault deployed in the VM.The Backups are running smoothly without environment. We are in the process of purchasing Vxrail and would be moving all our VMs from the old 3 tier architecture to new VxRail Appliance. We want to ensure all our existing Commvault backups and jobs and schedules configured with the old vCenter are successfully migrated to the new vCenter running on VxRail. How do we proceed with this
Team, need to know what is the best practice for NAS client configuration regarding the clusters/vservers.Scenario: Client has a netapp. CIFS/NFS will be used. Is best practice to configure the NAS client as the cluster and then add the vservers to it (under ‘storage virtual machines’) or to configure a NAS client for each vserver ? When configuring a NAS client for each vserver would there also need to be a NAS client for the cluster ?
AADSTS700082 = The refresh token has expired due to inactivity. Getting this error when running “Verify connection” on several Teams backup tenants. How can the tokens become “inactive”?The refresh procedure for the Teams token is a pain, at least in our case.We either need to have a remote session with the customer and log in with our admin credentials in their environment, and have the customer enter their global admin.. Or they need to log in to a remote session into our env and enter their global admin credentials..None of our customers give us their global admin credentials, because we don’t want to request it, and in our experience the customers are hesistant if the subject is brought up.Even with contracts specifying that we'll only use our access for the backup service, it's impossible to guarantee 100% that individuals won't have malicious intent or make mistakes. It’s a big ask.So is there another way to refresh the token?
Hi,I understand that Commvault only backs up (User / Group / Shared) Exchange Online Mailboxes with a Microsoft mailbox license assigned. Is this correct? If this is correct, is there a possibility to automatically exclude from backup all (User / Group / Shared) Mailboxes without a Microsoft mailbox license, so that for once in a lifetime the Exchange Online backup can complete succesfully without any mentioning of failed / skipped mailboxes?Thank you so much!
We found a few clients that did not have a plan so we were not getting a message that it wasmissing backups. Is there a report that would give us this info? or is there a way to know?Thank you -
Hey all - I am working with a customer on SQL log backups. The log RPO on the plan is 15 minutes and we verified in the Java GUI that the auto schedule is also 15 minutes. the problem is the logs are backing up every 30 minutes and we can’t figure why. What could I be missing? Thanks!
Does anyone still use SharePoint Document agent? Everything can be recovered by restoring content database. Using document agent seems like a waste of resources
The customer has single nas client with an ndmp agent that is used for a snap primary and its backup copy. The snap primary has a non-dedup storage pool, the backup copy for that snap primary is dedup’ed and writes to a storagegrid. The customer wants to stop using the ndmp agent and use cifs/nfs agents going forward continuing use of the same storage pools with no interruption or negative impact. Would this agent change have an impact on the storage pools ? Or can they create new subclients under the cifs/nfs agents, using the same storage policy and then use the same storage pools with no interruption or sealing of the storage pool ?
Hi, I need some info about the usage of HPE StoreOnce as a disk library. Something like this:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/102869_add_hpe_catalyst_storage.htmlCurrently we're using one HPE StoreOnce catalyst store for a disk library. This gives us some single point of failure issue and we need to try and remediate this. So I would like to know what options there is. Like could we have a disk library with catalyst stores from multiple HPE StoreCnce boxes? Like a grid consisting of 4MA's with storage from 4 HPE StoreOnce. So in case there's some issue/maintenance we take down one HPE StoreOnce box at a time and backups will continue to run.
Is there any way to specify within a VM Group an affinity for certain access nodes for certain backup types? I am using Auto transport mode because most of my VM’s can utilize my Windows MediaAgent VM’s for HotAdd, however a few of them need to fall back on NBD. When they do NBD via our HSX nodes, they get great throughput and the jobs finish quickly. However, they are often selecting the Windows MediaAgent VM’s for NBD and the throughput is abysmal, causing the jobs to take 5-7 hours longer than they should to complete. Is there any way to control this within the VM Group? If not, has CommVault ever considered adding access node affinity/anti-affinity as a feature? Or perhaps modify the access node selection logic to reference the throughput/runtime of past jobs and realize that selecting incredibly slow access nodes for NBD is not a good idea?
Any chance to run pre script and post script for Azure VM Intellisnap? If yes, which script language supported by Commvault?
