server a/b is VCS cluster databases will be running on only one node at a time, currently databases are running only on server “a” node and only if database failover happens databases will run from server “b”. as per DBA it’s not RAC, how to configure the oracle backup for the same.

Hello,We have backup server  CommServe Simpana version 11 on Windows sever 2012 R2 Standard, and we are planning to migrate the commserve from win server 2012 OS server to new hardware Windows server 2022E.But, we have a problem with a low space on backup server 4,39GB free of total 67GB..I have noticed that SoftwareCache is C:\Program Files\CommVault\Simpana\SoftwareCache is 15.5GB.Is it recommend to delete that SoftwareCache to free up space on old backup server?Best regards,Elizabeta

So I created a job summary report from the commcell GUI, filling in all items abd adding it to be scheduled. The report is created a a CONSOLE report. But when I look at the result in the scheduler it’s been, magically or by commvaults visdom, changed to be a job summary webreport. Nothing noticed me about the change and in the GUI there is a specific selection to create a Job Summary as a web report.Where can I find the announcement of this change?? The web report contains loads of informatiuon I don’t need, so now I have to go and build a new customized web report? Where as the GUI report had an easy click “summery” I need to create a new report with just that info.If anyone can point me to that “one button” on the web report I’d much appreciate it. I understand that Commvault is trying to make things easier and more streamline, but that defenetly is causing issues in some areas, specificlly if one is used to the more granular

Hello,I have 2022E version of Commvault server in Azure installed. Then I created a Windows media agent and one Windows Access node (VSA agent). I created a Azure cloud library and a server plan. Then I created an IAM AD application (the traditional authentication way) in Azure and then a hypervisor client in Commvault. Hi folks,I’m a relatively new Commvault admin so I’m learning a lot of this as I go. My teammate and I were tasked with testing a back-up to S3 storage hosted by our overarching IT dept. We set up an aux copy to go to the S3 bucket, did our testing, and now I need to clean up the remnants of our testing in the Commcell Browser. Hi I have a customer who’s migrated their backups off to another solution. Commvault will stay in place for recovery purposes.They currently have 6 physical Media Servers (3 per Data Centre) with the following configuration. 1 x short term DDB spread across 6 Media Agents.1 x long term DDB spread across 6 Median Agents. Effectively each Media agent hosts a portion of each DDB (short and long term).These Media Agents will be decomissioned and the intention is to consolidate the DDB’s into 1 x Media Agent in Azure.The Short Term DDB’s won’t be migrated as they will age off.I know CVLT only supports 2 partitions per Media Agent, but can I run 3 partitions on 1 Media Agent and not affect recovery operations?First prize would be having the 6 partitions hosted on a single Media Agent. Can I go this route?Alternatively, is there a way to consolidate all 5 partitions into 1 partition, hosted on 1 Me

Hi Good Day!Environment:One commserve to manage the backup of 2 Data centers in different locations.One vCenter to manage VMs of 2 DCs. It is in the stretched cluster the VMs shall move between the DCs.Question:What is the best method for selecting the VMs discovered in the local DC for backup? Do not want to load the VM backup traffic across the DC in a failover scenario. Could select the backup based on VM presented on the ESXi hosts in the local DC? Or can I use tag, Folder & Data Store based VM selection? Which method best satisfies the requirement?

Hi guys,I’m wondering if there a way that I can divide and assign an amount of Endpoint users licenses to a particular tenant?Like, I have tow tenants configured (tenant1 and tenant2) and 50 endpoint licenses. From here I want to hardly assign 10 Endpoint license to tenant2, where admin of the tenent2 only can use a maximum of 10 Endpoint licenses. Any idea on haow I can acheive that?

Hi ,i have schedule a monthly full backup on every month 1st , and there is extended retention for monthly backup set for 6 month ,  but i have read the below i want to know which backup will be selected for extended retention is it the one i scheduled or automatically the based on the start time ?A backup job will be selected for extended retention based on its start time. For example: If a backup job starts at 11:55 pm on August 31st and ends at 1 am on September 1st, then it will be selected as the last full backup for the month of August and will be picked up for extended retention i want to know which backup will be selected for extended retention is it the one i scheduled or automatically the based on the start time ?

Moving to a new NAS for our file system. How can we ensure STUB data is copied and updated? We use Robocopy.  

For some reason, there’s a setting that I cannot locate to disable Automatic Maintenance Release Updates. I know this happens because when I login I get an Information dialog box that says, “Commserve is at version (11.28.56) and Commcell console is running on version (11.28.44). You must install the latest updates on this client to use it effectively.” Does anybody know where this is located?

Hi guys, I am struggling to find a balance between stream and datastore limits for our environment which has many datastores and clusters on a shared flash array (using SAN transport). The VSA client also contains numerous remote sites all backing over over NBD, all of which funnel to the same MA/access node. The MA has plenty of resources but is fast enough to really hammer the array.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.21/expert/31115_performance_tuning_for_backups.html is what I’m referencing but I see no clear cut way to throttle TOTAL datastore streams hitting the SAN but not limit all the various NBD-based remote subclients. Hi we are running 11.30 and we want to start testing WORM Storage capabilities on our Datadomain. We have configured the retention-lock feature on Datadomain and activated the WORM Storage Lock on Commvault through the CommandCenterTalking to the Dell specialist, he has told us that there is a config that could affect on Commvault, the “automatic-lock-delay” value. That´s the time that the file remains “opened” while are being written on the DD by the backup aplication (in this case, Commvault), until it confirms the file closure and the it locks the file with the retention set before. As we don´t know how much time does CV need, we have set it to 120min on the DDHas any of you any experience with WORM on Datadomain in Commvault? Do you know how much time does Commvault keeps the files open on DD until are closed?

IHAC who has a requirement to encrypt all data in-transit for CV.  They use encrypted disks so they only want to encrypt data in transit for all clients.  There does not appear to be any way to do that globally. 2 questions….. Can we turn on in-transit encryption across the commcell? Should we just use the CC level force encryption across the board and not worry that the disk drives have HW encryption enabled (ie. There is no risk to double encryption) Thanks, Phil

Hello,we are using Metallic from quite some time, but for the past few weeks, we have observed that after weekly patches, the backup system breaks down. In most cases, we are unable to perform backup and recovery tasks on Saturday and half of Sunday. Not to mention a set of minor and major glitches that, for example, cause backup jobs to be skipped without any notification for no reason because of a broken backup schedule. Thus, if one doesn’t monitor the backup jobs carefully, one will not even be aware that such a problem exists. During downtime, reporting is also broken in most cases. Recently due to constant issues it’s difficult to be regulatory compliant using the Metallic SaaS/BaaS platform. What’s even more important, currently we cannot rely on backup system which by design should be our last line of defense.  Where can we expect Metallic platform to be more reliable, stable and quality oriented?

Since documentation doesn’t mention it, I assume it’s not supported, but wanted to ask here anyway in case there is some hidden magic setting that allows it. So I guess the question is: is it possible? 

Hello!Customer used to run VMware backup using Netbackup, via NBD. They moved to Commvault and SAN transport mode.Happens that, even with few data readers (6), underlying storage (SAS+SSD pool on a DELL Purity)  where the Datastores resides is suffering a lot. Overall latency goes so high that the production environment goes down. We are using HSX and SAN is 16Gb.Does anyone has any experience with situations like this? Any clue? Is HSX via SAN too much for their storage?Regards,Pedro

I just recently noticed an error during my OneDrive Online backups causing the jobs to fail. The error I’m getting is“Section size is greater than 2gb, Consider splitting into multiple sections As the section continues to grow in size, please consider deleting this section and splitting it into smaller sections of less than 2 GB”.Is this something I can fix on my own?
