right now, I have backups to disk. and once a month, backup to tape as well. The indexServer backups follow the same storage policy and will write to tape as well, but often it will just use a new tape from the scratch pool and ‘waste’ a few tapes for very little data.I would prefer to consolidate all indexServer backups to a single tape in a different scratch pool. That way, our monthly offsiting will include only one index tape instead of multiple index tapes with barely any content.I’ve created a seperate scratch pool with the appropriate barcode pattern, but how do I configure the index backups to use that scratch pool?
I have a SAP HANA Client named HANA_CQN which was previously using an old storage policy named SP_Tier2. I created a new storage policy named StgP-Tier2-ECDC and I migrated my SAP HANA Client to this new storage policy by changing all the Storage Device Storage Policy Property settings to this new storage policy. But when I view the Properties for the old storage policy SP_Tier2 under the Associated Subclients tab, I see that the SAP HANA Client named HANA_CQN still appears in the diagram. The diagram indicates that the client is still associated with the old storage policy because of the fact that it belongs to two Client Computer Groups. But looking at the properties of the two Client Computer Groups, one group involves an automatic association query of 5 storage policies including the 2 storage policies in this case. While the other client group is an individual manual addition. And as such, there doesn’t seem to be a direct connection between the Client Computer Group and the indiv
Hi Guys, We need to renew the SSL certificate for tomcat. Would like to check the complete process for this ? Whether we can use the old CSR file as no changes were made in the environment.Regards,pank1988
Hi there, Two days back with my seniors, I created a disk storage but unforeseen disabled deduplication. After giving artefacts to my client for that disk storage, they are asking today to enable deduplication but now I am not getting option to toggle deduplication button to enable except delete disk storage. And production data written onto it in the two days.We tried using command center. How can we enable deduplication for future backup data. Is it possible? Please advise. Hari
Hi there, Please advice, can we insert cleaning tape in tape library from Command center. I am not getting option or may be I am not able to find it.I am aware of CommCell console but not of Command center. We can add drives, zone MA with TL. I am novice to CC, therefore taking help and guidance from experienced persons to learn. Hari
Hi, We’re planning to use Commvault with on-prem disk storage that has the WORM feature enabled. At this moment, we know that when using WORM on the storage side, Commvault WORM must be also configured (WORM Copy property). I had an open Incident 221229-281 to describe additional settings. The support reply is to run a workflow, but this is specific to Storage Pools. That is not our case. We’re planning to use WORM with Secondary Copies with deduplication. We can’t use Storage Pools right now, because we already have some copies bound with a Global Deduplication Policy. What other settings do we need to? Below I have a list of things that need to be done.Could you confirm if is this correct and add something to it if necessary? Check WORM Copy property Disable the CV option “Prevent Accidental Deletion”Source: Have Scalable Resources enabled during the aux copy job (same source) Follow the steps here (https://kb.commvault.com/article/55258) before running the first aux copy (same sou
We have LTO4 tapes that contain backups that we would like to move back to disk. Is that possible? If so, how can it be accomplished? Thank you for your time!
Hello,One of our customer wants to remove the SQL application plugin (application aware backup) installed in his VMs and replace it by the “real” SQL agent to take a streaming backup for the SQL environment. The application plugin was installed during the first application aware backup. Is there a procedure to remove the SQL application plugin and install the SQL iDatagent?ThanksBest regards
AFAIK there is no prebuild FREL image available for Hyper-V at the moment. Are there any plans to distribute a FREL image for Hyper-V in the near future?
Hi Commvault team, I am learning Commvault from YouTube videos but having some doubts. Please mentor me.Can we install Command center on Linux machine. While restoring VM(s), we require vCenter server or ESX using VSA. Can we use “activate” section to find redundant data on client computer configured in CommCell. Do command center support SAN disk and cloud storage (S3) [as new tech. storage] or it uses “tapes” [Traditional] too.
I have used NetBackup for 10+ years. Our organization is now pushing us to use CommVault for any new growth. Has anyone out there come up with a “CommVault for NetBackup Administrators” document? I have had zero exposure to CommVault until now.
Hi :) Is it possible to restore a DB from within sql management studio when using commvault for backup ? I can see restore point from within the management studio but when I try to restore it cannot as it looks on the E drive and thats not where the backup`s are located. They are located on an isiloted storrage media, do you know if it is even possible, would be nice if some admin users where able to restore without contacting the backup backend team :)Br Martin
Hello, I have Oracle backups running which are scheduled through RMAN which occasionally fail with the following error code: “Error Code: [82:177] Description: Timeout while waiting for a reply from DeDuplication Database engine for Store Id [X]” Steps that I have taken to troubleshoot the issue: Dedupe engine is active and running Created a one way persistent tunnel from the client to the commserve and Media agentsas suggested by another thread pertaining to the same issue “ERROR CODE [82:172]: Could not connect to the DeDuplication Database process for Store Id [xx]. Source: xxxx, Process: backint_oracle | Community (commvault.com)”Our Q&I times across the board for our media agents are quite high. For this particular engine the times are 6,416 microseconds (307%). I believe the ddb is not running on SSD, but regular disk. Is it possible that this could be causing the above error? If not I’m not sure what else could be the reason for this.
Due to the fact of changing the backup storage infrastructure, I only want to change the storage policy. Our former strategy was to have a spool copy and to aux copies - one to NAS and one to LTO.This was done due to the fact that we had a performance/backup time issueWe solved this by direct attached SSDs to the backup server. Now I want to set a retention to the primary copy and delete the no longer needed Aux copy to NAS. This points also to the same storage (the local SSDs) and wastes the need space on this.If I want to change the retention on the primary storage policy I get error shown in the screenshot and changes are discarded.I don’t know where to find these settings (Archiver retention rule and “Onepass”) I have never set a archiver (retention rule), we are not using archiving
VM backup that is completing is not showing upThe Commvault software was removed from CLIENT1 and we added the CLIENT1 to the VM backups.I am backing up a VM in Commvault named CLIENT1 but I am not able to see it in any client groups. We are able to view all other VM’s not named CLIENT1.
Hello!I have a newly deployed Commvault environment for one of our customers. We have 10 VOI licenses to cover 10 VMs being backed up by this solution.Recently an extra VOI license has been consumed bringing us over our license threshold. Upon investigation I discovered our Media Agent server is now consuming a VOI. In the license summary report, the media agent server is displayed under the “Current Virtual Operating Instances” table but is not shown under “Virtual Operating Instances - current usage” table, so I am not able to pinpoint why exactly it is consuming the license. The Media Agent server is not shown as protected under virtualization, file servers, databases, etc., and should not be. I did notice that the “Virtual Server” agent is installed under the CommCell > Servers page.Currently this is not an issue as we are still within the evaluation period, but I would like to solve it before it becomes one. Any help is appreciated! Commvault version: 11.28.32
Hi,We take backups of VMs by installing VSA on VM and using hotadd transport mode (mount of VMDK of VM to backup into VSA proxy). The VMDK data are then sent, through the LAN, from the VSA proxy to physical media agents containing disk space. Now, I am looking for the restore process. Is the restore process as follows:Restore VM data from Media Agent to VSA Proxy using the LAN The VSA Proxy mounts the VMDK of the VM to be restored (even if we need to restore a single file?) The VSA Proxy sent the data to restore (file/folder or VMDK) to the VM to be restored using hypervisor mechanism? Many thanksRegards
HiA while back I setup Salesforce backups with commvault using AWS RDS Postgresql. Our company uses AURORA RDS as default and at the time it was said that Aurora wasn’t supported.https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/93007_postgresql_requirements_for_salesforce.htmlSupportPostgreSQL DatabaseAmazon RDS for PostgreSQLAmazon Aurora for PostgreSQL version 11.9Azure Database for PostgreSQLI now come to DB upgrade time and see that Aurora is now supported - but a pretty old version of Postgres. All the the other versions of postgres don’t specify a version? So I guess the question is why is the stated version the only one supported?(11.9) or has documentation not been updated?Any help?Mike
There is a related topic regarding my question but I don’t feel it was adequately answered: Essentially there is a conflict in documentation regarding versioning and how object locking works. Firstly the public cloud architecture guide for AWS states that bucket and object versioning is not supported in Commvault (p. 85 of AWS Cloud Architecture Guide - Feature Release 11.25 (commvault.com))However, when enabling object locking in AWS, versioning is enabled by default on the bucket and objects - it is by design. Under ‘Enabling S3 Object Lock’ section (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/object-lock-overview.html) it states that versioning is enabled. So if Commvault doesn’t support versioning (and will result in orphaned objects), how can Commvault support object locking, which also enables versioning? We have also tested this in the lab and can confirm when object locking is enabled, we do not see any data prune from the cloud library. We have run the workflow, store
Morning,We’re moving to ONTAP 9.10, which means only SnapDiff v3 is supported. In the CommVault docs I can only really find what CommVault versions support v3, nothing really about what needs to be configured.I’ve seen from other topics here, that our commvault user needs an “access tokens” role on the NetApp, is there anything else that we need to look out for? Thanks.
Backup has completed with partial success for VM with below error. do we consider the backup as completed or not when we have below error.what does it use when we have CBT disabled, is the backup consistent and restorable. [Failed to enable changed block tracking [Change tracking cannot be enabled when snapshots are present]].
I received this message from a customer…We would like some information on the refresh Datacenter option for VM backups. This looks to have resolved one of our issues with VM tags recently. We are trying to determine whether the following happens. Does this occur normally on a regular basis? How often should we run it manually? What is being done when it is run? What is the impact of it running? How often should we run this? Can / should we workflow this to run regularly?Thank you
Hello Everyone,Hope you are all doing well. Has anyone worked on restoring a full VM from Azure to Azure with Commvault using automation. Here’s our scenario, we have VMs in Azure and commvault backs them up in Azure (cold storage blob) and with commvault we have restored VMs in another vnet successfully. Now I am working on researching if we can automate most of the steps. We created an isolated environment in Azure thru terraform, so that’s automated, now I want to automate restores thru code either by workflow or scripting, has anyone done this before? Can someone please help me in this regards. Thank you.
Hi, We are currently running 11.24.48. After the upgrade from 11.24.29 to 11.24.34, I was unable to log in to the Commcell Console using my AD admin account.Web Console works fine, and I can log in there without any problems. For the time being, the only way to log in to Commcell Console is using a local admin account. Is there a parameter or a setting that prevents us using our AD credentials since 11.24.34? Upgrading to 11.24.48 hasn’t solved this issue.Thank you,Zoltan
I am looking for a comparison between Windows and Linux media agents. I have done some testing between the two and not seeing anything that will make me say “Yes, we need to do Linux now!” I am actually seeing that I would have to deploy additional infrastructure for items like Live Browse if I went to Linux as Windows proxies would be needed. Any suggestions are appreciated.
