Magnetic Library Defragmentation

I have read a couple or articles on CommVault Online that say defragmentation of the Magnetic libraries is a good idea. Diskeeper, now Dymax IO, was listed as a certified product for online volumes. I am wondering if others defrag theire libraries for performance purposes, and what products they use. I have read in older articles that the native windows defragmentation tool can be used. Also it states that it should be done outside of backup hours (makes sense). Any feedback or information would be appreciated. Thanks

VCSA Backip failed - VDDK version too low

Hallo CV community, recently we got this error while using the SAN transport mode with auto scheduled jobs. Failure Reason:·  ERROR CODE [72:106]: VDDK Version 6.5 is required to back up virtual machines on hosts running ESX 6.5 using SAN mode. The VDDK will be auto updated on the next attempt.We are usingVMware vCenter ServerVersion:7.0.2.00200Build-Nummer17958471Any ideas regarding this issues. BRPhilipp

Proper way to set up subclient in a VMware virtual client.

So we recently had a run in with a database issue with our VMware client, which made us not allow us to add or modify new/existing subclients. Although i never got a straight answer as to what caused it, the rep was hinting that we had way to many subclients. My question is two fold; How do we properly and efficiently group them together inside the virtual client, and if we have for example 20 vm’s together inside a subclient, if one fails, how do we backup that individual failed vm without having to re-backup the other 19 that were sucessfull? We have a tape enviroment so backing up redundant data is something i am trying to avoid.

Report on age of restored data

I am looking for data on restores. Specifically we would like to know how many days back the data is from the day the restores was ran. I am not able to locate something in Commvault that will give that data. Knowing this information about the restores our company does would help us size tiers of backup data. For example how long to keep data on fast storage before it is moved to another tier.Thanks!

Firewall Configuration for RHEV

Hello Guys, I need your help. I am deplying a VM protection (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) in the Customer’s environment.The Customer has the following configuration:  CS and MA are located outside of Internal Network.RHEV Manager Server is located behind the Firewall.VSA Proxy is a part of the RHEV environment (VM running Linux OS) I created a Client Group called ‘DMZ’, then I put the VSA proxy to this group.I also set the Network Route for DMZ group as follows:From Infastructure Group - BlockedThen I set the Network Route for Infastructure group as follows:From DMZ Group - Restricted (port 8403) Is anything alse that I need to do to create a RHEV pseudo-client?Do you think that this Firewall configuration should work or maybe I should set the Firewall in different way? Rgds,Kamil

Microsoft SQL Restore - Job Details Event

Hi,from one of our customers we have updated the commvault environment from sp12 to sp20. After the upgrade, the customer noticed that during the restore jobs of microsoft sql database, in the job details events window, the various steps of the restore are no longer displayed, but only at the end of  the job the complete/failed event appear. Commvault alerts and SNMP v2

Hi! As you know, Commvault’s alerts are supported with SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, but do you know why SNMPv2 is not supported? One of our customers is using v2 and he is interesting to use this protocol… Thanks.

Job Statistics Report Commvault Store issue

Hello,I recently downloaded a report called Job Statistics from the Commvault Store and when I import the report it doesn’t seem to link up with my system and shows no information.  I have had this with another performance report.  I don’t see anything in the store that tells me I need to change anything.  Has anyone had this issue with reports?  Am I doing something wrong?  Any help would be great.In the store its called Job Statistics - Release Date Aug 2, 2019 - Version 1.1.2.3 - Author CommvaultThanks again in advance for any help with this.

PostgreSQL Plan

Hi everyoneI’ve got a bit of a strange one. I’ve created a Plan and in there I’ve defined PostgreSQL as the backup target.I’ve run through everything as I need it to be and the plan is successfully created.However, the schedules don’t run as I get the below error (tried to manually start the schedule too): ‘failed to start backups as no eligible subclients were found’ If I backup the DB from the subclient level, I have no problems. I’ve not assigned anything in the default created subclient policies, so not sure what else may be the issue here?

Archiving and Backup for NETAPP NAS

We have a request to backup and archive a share on NetAPP device;  we have a Windows MediaAgent with direct attached storage onsite.   I was wondering what is the best approach.  Also, does anyone know a 3TB of Data would consume how much of Index Cache? I can configure the backup to occur either via NDMP  or via Windows share(utilizing a windows proxy proxy) and then configure Archiving to occur as a network share.  Shall I configure Archiving first and then the backup or should it be other way around both would go to a library on the onsite Mediaagent.Benefit or archiving first would be smaller backups Benefit of Backup first would be if something happens to the data on library we have a aux copy of full backup at our end     also, say we setup archiving to the local Mediaagent connected libraries; and these libraries fail for some reason (hardware error); how would stub recalls work?  Or if we need to replace the existing Mediaagent with a new one; usually; as we have a aux copy; we

Hyperscale 1.5 vs Hyperscale X 2.1 Reference Architecture

Hi, I install recently Hyperscale 1.5 Reference Architecture on my 3 HPE Server, but i discovered then version 2.1 exist on Hyperscale X. What is the difference between these 2 versions? This is the same version but more recent or 1.5 is used only for migrate appliance to reference achitecture? Thank you for your help!

Backup existing snapshot of NetApp NFS share

Dear all,we want to backup an existing snapshot of a NetApp volume. The snapshot is created outside Commvault. The NetApp SVM is configured and the NFS share client is enabled. We create a subclient and added the content like this:<vServer_name>:/<share_name>/.snapshot/<snapshot_name>This works fine for subclients we configured before we update to version 11.23.17. Hello All, I am trying to setup an integration between Azurestack and Commvault but even after following the URLs below and Azure powershell was installed it keeps on giving the error as below :Add hypervisor failed. Creation of backup copy after a Intellisnap with Hyper-V cluster on a not domain joined Mediaagent server.

I have the following situation:1 or more Hyper-V clusters (MA + VSA installed on every node)1 domain service account configured on the Hyper-V instance (Client)1 media agent server (fysical) not domain joined (with MA, VSA, CommandDevice and Raidmanager installed)1 Hitachi VSP F700 storage Array with IntelliSnap integration on subclient. First, the primary snap is doing great.Second after the snapshot the backup copy must start and mount the snapshot (proxy redirected in the subclient) to the same media agent.When the discovery starts CommVault tries to login on the media agent server and fails:“Set pending cause (unable to connect to virtual machine host (mediaagent server) as user (domain\user) Please ensure that the access node is able to communicate with the host and the user en pw is correct :: client (mediaagentserver)” Now, if I join the mediaagent server to the AD domain the backup copy works, the snapshot is mounted on the mediaagent server and the data is read from the snapsh

Exchange Databases in a DAG setup Performance Advice

Hi @jgeorges, thanks a lot for the detailed post:It is awesome but I have one question: Do part of any of your recommendations work in scenarios where the backup is done just by protecting the Exchange Databases in a DAG setup? I’m trying to find information about performance improvement but the backup is not done with the mailbox agent. Moreover, we are about to change another backup software for Commvault, they have severe performance problems (copying just the databases) and I try to avoid getting into a trap.So, I need 2 things:1), understand how to improve speed2) Define some sets of measurements or tests so the evaluation of our solution is fair and we don’t get tangled in other’s problems (I see lots of info in your post about Microsoft produced best practices that I will study). Thanks!JP

CS sizing on Azure

Hi Vaulters.I have a potential customer that will need to back up 10k Office 365 accounts to Azure. They want all the infra (CS, MA, Access and Index nodes) running on Azure. Are there different sizing parameters for the infra servers if these will be all Azure VMs?Thank you in advance!
