Hello, hope this finds you all well! A few days ago I configured backups for an Oracle RAC client and I’ve been noticing a very strange behavior… Every incremental backup gets switched to a full backup and there always this error being displayed: “UpdateIndex failed on MediaAgent [media agent name] - Index files are missing. Job could have earlier run on a different MediaAgent possibly due to a failover.Source: media agent name, Process: UpdateIndex”.It is true that we have a pool of 4 media agents and it can use any of them but we don’t notice this error on any other of our hundreds of backups and they also jump media agents between jobs. A lot of them being other Oracle RACs…What is even stranger is that this error happened even during its first full backup. Could this be happening because this DB is a duplicate of one configured with other Storage Policy that uses other media agents? Even though they use different DDBs? Can it be that this is somehow creating some confusion?Events f
All, Has anyone experienced the following. I have a three nodes HSX Ref architecture cluster and I have “enable password-based root access” disabled. This means I can’t connect to it over SSH or iDRAC. Yesterday I patched my cluster but the services on one of the nodes hung. So, I went into the Command Centre and enabled password-based root access but because the node was hung the Command Centre could not talk to it to enable password-based root access so I could not connect to it. As a work around I was able to enable password on node 2 and from here SSH to node 1 which allowed my restart the services and get the node back online. My question is how would I connect if all three of my nodes were in a hung state ?
Hi. Is there a way to monitor Hypercale update via the logs? The WEBui or the job log are almost useless. I have a 3 node Hyperscale cluster, is there a better way to follow the progression?
Hi Team, We got one MS SQL Management studio(ODBC) Vulnerability on Commserve. Plugin Output:Path : C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 18\Common7\IDE\Mashup\ODBC Drivers\Simba Spark ODBC Driver\LibCurl32.DllA\libcurl.dllInstalled version : 7.66.0.0Fixed version : 8.9.1As per commvault case 250807-187(this case is closed),This is not a SQL core vulnerability but a SSMS vulnerability. You can either ignore it or upgrade your SSMS and ODBC drives to remediate that.Commvault is not affected by this vulnerability. We are upgrading from 11.32 to 11.36 for production before that we did upgrade of test commserve to 11.36. .I see the SQL version there is also upgraded from sql 2019 to sql2022.SS Management studio is still 18.x.If I upgrade SSMS to 20.x(as per Support advise) will there be any impact on Commserve operations.I am reaching here since SQL server is used by Commvault stack and want to know if it works for SSMS 20.x also.Do I need to uninstall SSMS 18.x firs
We are frequently encountering a problem where data chunks are missing, and this is impacting our ability to restore multiple VMs. Initially, we suspected an issue with the cloud storage provider and requested the support team to investigate. However, upon further analysis, we discovered that a delete command was issued by Commvault, which led to the deletion of the data from cloud storage. As a result, multiple storage policies have been affected, and we are currently unable to restore the data for several virtual machines. Analysis: According to DataCore logs:The SFILE delete request was received at 08:08:49 The Compact File delete request was received at 08:07:55Commvault is expected to send a delete request for the Compact File only after a successful remote copy of the Compact File to recreate the SFILE. If this process is followed correctly, the SFILE should have already been deleted before the Compact File is removed. However, this sequence appears to be reversed, and DataCore has
Based on our current Commvault infrastructure: We have one CommServe and a Media Agent at the DC location. A Standby CommServe has recently been configured in Azure, and we successfully tested a planned failover. During the test, we were able to run backup and restore jobs using the Standby host while the Production CommServe (services) was down. Now, we would like to extend our testing to include the Media Agent as well, specifically for a scenario where both the Production CommServe and the Media Agent at DC are unavailable. From the planned failover test, we have confirmed that the Standby CommServe can take over. However, in the event of a complete DC outage (CommServe and Media Agent down together), we need clarity on how to proceed. Our current policy setup is: Primary copies → Local storage (without DDB). Secondary copies → Cloud storage (with Commvault DDB). We would like guidance on how to best configure a Media Agent in Azure so that it can act as a standby. The goal is to

Hi, We have huge amount of data to be copied to Tape for Offsite copy .We did setup the Tape library to have data backed up to Hyperscaler on commvault then to the Tape connected via Fibre. the data are in Perabytes . I look for best practice to utilize the Tape for the offsite copy. Appreciate any help on this
Kindly note that we tried to use the archiving function in CommVault and the archiving didn`t work properly, need assistance to archive some files
We are preparing to phase out our NetApp FAS3220 storage and migrating data to other platforms. Currently, we have three LUNs created on the same NetApp volume. These three LUNs are connected to a Windows cluster server and presented as drives D:, E:, and F:. I created an IntelliSnap backup job on the cluster client with block-level backup enabled and included all three drives (D/E/F) in the same backup set. I also configured a proxy computer (same OS version as the file server) for backup copy operations. When running the backup job, the process hangs at the file scan stage: One snapshot is created successfully at the NetApp volume level. Three snapshots with the same prefix (volume snapshot label) are shown as mounted to the proxy in netapp. On the proxy, only two drives appear, and the job remains stuck for more than 6 hours. Troubleshooting Performed: Tested with SnapTest: creating and mounting a snapshot for a single LUN/drive works without issues. When attempting snapshots for al
Hello,Do you know if it is possible to have the same information “Distribution By estimated media size” but 1 month ago. I want to check the growth per Agent type on a specific library Thanks
Hello everyone,My customer had a question we can’t seem to find the answer for. We’re wondering if we can have different retentions for active users deleted items and for users that are deleted/disabled in EntreID. As far as I can find Commvault doesn’t see a difference between deleted items and deleted users. Or has someone found a “Work around” for this?
In the List of Updates for the various Maintenance Release versions, there is now a section at the top of the site there is a new table section showing Security Updates. For example, for Feature Release 32 the latest Maintenance Release is 11.32.106 and this site shows the updates:https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/files/service_pack/updates/11_32_106.htmWhich shows this new table with three new security updates:Security UpdatesIssue Hotfix Made changes to use v7 encryption instead of v3 encryption. 12324 PSIRT fixes for REST API Qcommand and QAPI login. 12323 Restricted public user access to APIs. 12321 But what is confusing is whether these three Security Updates are only contained in release 11.32.106 or are they contained in any earlier maintenance releases? For example, the updates for 11.32.102 contains the same three security updates:https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/files/service_pack/updates/11_32_102.htm While

Hi, I want to have my firewall enabled on my HSX cluster but for monitor reasons I want to be able to ping the data protection network. Is this possible ?
Hello everyone, Our customer has this interesting question about Hyperscale security. We were explaining WORM to him and how it protects data from deletion at software and OS level. He asked: What if I go to a lower level? What if I connect to the hardware management interface (iLO, BMC, etc.) and delete the whole server? Does Hyperscale implement any security measure to avoid this from happening?Indeed, BMC has some options to eject and even delete disks securely… so this would mean that Hyperscale’s WORM is not as resilient as expected… Does Hyperscale provide any mechanism at that level to avoid the execution of these actions? or would we need to rely on the security features of each hardware vendor?Btw, this is for HyperscaleX Reference Architecture option. Thanks in advance.
Hello, hope this finds you well!I’ve been checking the documentation but can’t find a way to make an API call that would give me what I need. What I’m looking for is something that would give me this information:This screenshots refers to what I see when I go to Storage Policy - Copy - View - Jobs For auditing matters I need to extract the job history of certain clients and automating this would help me quite a lot.Thank you in advance for your help and have a nice day.Best regards,
Hi.A Hyper-V cluster was upgraded from 2016 to 2019 by removing a single host at a time, then reinstalling the server with Windows Server 2019, and joining it to the cluster again. This process was followed with all hosts, one at a time. When all hosts were reinstalled with 2019 and rejoined to the cluster the functional level of the cluster was upgraded to 2019. Job error:Device not found : [getVolumeInfo failed: Unable to get the volume/device information corresponding to mount point []. We have ran into this more than once with on-prem 11.36 whereby either a synth or full runs for an org. While the jobs exist prior to the full, the objects cannot be seen, downloaded, or restored. So the question is - does the cloud version work differently? Then - if not, is it a limitation in Sf or “the SaaS world in general?”?If fulls are unavoidable but you lose every aspect of jobs prior, then what? I see nothing in the best practices about this.thanks
After setting up livesync for the CS’s, someone inadvertently set a plan for the “empty” default SC which is auto created when that new primary SQL client is created. Since the plan cannot be deselected from the default SC nor can the schedule be disabled obviously, the thing fails every day and if we disable the activity on it that also is flagged for various checks, so, it’s rather annoying. How can we forceably detach a plan from it and keep it silent with no SP assigned to it like it should be?thanks

Hello, TeamWe have Unity Storage With Multiple LUNs, acting as mount paths attached to 6 Media agents with about 2.6TB datasize in total. There are multiple disks failure on the Unity storage end and we need to move the active data into another Newly purchased storage. The plan is to have all mount pats or data written to that storage with their dependencies. The plan is to use commvault for this migration and here are my queries below:Should we use the Move Mount Path option? if yes, can restore happen while the mount paths are being moved? Each LUN is about 10-20TB each and we have multiple of them. Should we use the Storage policy create new copy or auxillary copy to move the data and promote the destination storage to primary. Also, considering data size, how could it take the data to complete migration? When the migration is completed. We would love to see that the data has left the Unity storage. The source storage and destination storage are like 50KM apart on an uncapped network
Hi Team,We have had LiveSync in operation for some time, but have only been testing it with TEST failovers, not production. We are now ready to move to a full, PRODUCTION failover, but to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible, I thought i would run this past the community.Apart from the Commvault docco that we will be following:-https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/planned_failovers.htmlIs there anything else that we need to be aware of?We are on SP36.We would be looking to leave the failover in place for a few hours, so we are hoping this process is now mature enough to not cause us problems. But if you had problems with it, it would be good to hear what happened. Thanks
