Can I use cv agent from 11.20.67 to my Client that will be going to add to Commvault  with version11.20.46?

how to deal with DFS backup, I have multiple servers replicating data between, right now the dfs shares are backup using \\unc\path from windows subclinet but many files are skipped. I’m surprised that there is no DFS client option to backup shares from multiple servers. If I deploy the agent all servers consumes my license and backup the same data multiple times   

I had have read all CommVault documentation, made a lot of test/API requests as well, but I did not found way/module/API REST how to get information about Backup Job Attempts (only via reports)... I found curl -X GET "https://server/webconsole/api/Events?jobId=14285647" -H "accept: application/json", but all items are regarding Events Details. And I am still looking for any information about full backups attemps, can you advice me which PS module's part or API request is it ? regards,Juraj

Hi,We are planning to change the setting of our current Commvault Server transport mode from Network to SAN based.However, when I check the manual, it says the SAN transport mode must a physical Server as the Proxy Server to back VMsThe fact is, we have been using Netbackup environments at somewhere else for years where the master / Media Servers doing VM backups are Virtual Machines but with HBA cards directly presented to them, so that all the datastores are visible to them. So, I’m just wondering why many backup software vendors (like Commvault) don’t support the configuration of using a Virtual Machine as the backup host for SAN (transport mode) backup VMs ? Thanks,Kelvin

I just configure Azure blob backup and tested restore. I have to search file manually if I know the detail path and file name. I have more than 10 millions file on container, could you guide me how to search file from backup image

Working on hardware and OS refresh. My first shot was to attach new machine to LiveSync (already has active-passive configuration present) allow it to sync and make new one active one. Is it possible? Or better follow Commserve hardware migration procedure? Not sure if OS (Windows 2019 vs 2012)  and SQL (2012 vs 2016) version mismatch would allow me to do so? First attempt was not successful, as failover instance is not able to communicate with other nodes. Throwing  “Failed to get current active node from config file for node” errors. Don’t want to wast time for troubleshooting  as it may not te supported at all. 

My question is this.  I have a single VM Backup subclient that backups up 5 VM’s.  One of the VM’s I would like to remove to lower my total backup overhead.  I can not delete the “Job” because there are other VM’s in it.  I just want the 1 VM removed from all backups and removed from the overhead of our license. I understand that I can wait for the "data aging” to happen on the jobs but we hold them for over 1 year.  And these VMs make up almost 9TB which is why I would like to remove them without waiting. Please feel free to ask any questions I would be happy to explain more. Kind Regards,Pauul

HI I am backing up an AIX (7.2) sever with an Oracle data base (19C), data base size is ± 20TB. Problem I am having is the job results folder keeps filling up, till now my colleagues have just been extending the volume to make the problem go away, however we are now sitting with jobs result folder that is 50Gb in size.I have arranged root access to the server in question and found that the problem is actually in the CV_CLDB folder where I have a CacheTable.dat file that is currently around 35Gb in size and a CacheTable.idx that is currently around 14Gb in size, so my understanding is that these should shrink when pruning takes place which set for 3 days but it would appear that this is not happening, I have tried changing the pruning frequency to check if it makes a difference but nothing, not sure how to reduce the size of these files at this point, and don't want to keep throughing space at the problem.Commvault version installed is 11.20.36

We have select S3 compatible storage for create the library.in the documentation i found the below information :For another vendor that supports Amazon S3 such as Scality, you must select Amazon S3 from Type, and then, under Access Information, enter the credentials of that vendor.i have a doubt about selecting amazon S3 in the type of cloud library instead of S3 compatible storage because i tried to create a cloud library for testing in amazon s3 type. the request of creating the library don’t work.please adviceKind regards,

Hello,  We have an environment that was originally set up with Windows media agents, but as it has grown we have added some Linux media agents as Data Movers.  CommVault will let me share the mountpaths with these Linux media agents but it will not let me run a “move mountpath” from a connected CIFS UNC path to a locally-mounted NFS volume on a Linux media agent, so it concerned me that it would let me share them with a Linux media agent if it was mounted as a local path.  That being said, I was wondering if anyone else is successfully accessing mountpaths over SMB/CIFs using Linux media agents?  (SMB path mounted to local directories on the Linux media agents and accessed/shared-to as local paths on the Linux servers, i.e. \\sancifsservername\mysharename via network path on Windows servers, and mounted to local directory as local device on Linux servers.)Thanks all!Pat

Hi, Is it possible to bulk move tapes from one library to another? I know it’s possible to right click one tape at a time and select “Options → Move to Library” and then select the new library but it would be nice to be able to do this with more than one tape a time.The reason for this is that we would like to decom an old tape library that we are not using anymore - we have bought a smaller library with just one tape drive so we can restore from all of the tapes used in the old library - but if I de-configure the old library all the tapes will be put in to “Orphaned Media” it would be nice to just have them moved to the new library before de-configuring the old.Maybe it’s just for cosmetics as I guess we can still import a tape (to the new library) that has been moved to “Orphaned Media” and restore the content from it?

Hi All,we configured our first archive job, not OnePass but a archive subclient.We saw that the first Full did not create any stubs, but only the subsequent incremental created them.If this normal?How can I obtain two different retentions for a backup and archive jobs of a volume using Onepass ?Many thansk.Franck

Hi,When we want to do Guest files and folder restore for a RH8 EFI client, but we do not see much to restore. Can this have something do that the FREL for download is CentOS 7?With BIOS instead of EFI we do not encounter this problem.In other words do we need to create a RH8 Media agent and convert it to a FREL? With an outcome unknown. Or is there is a simple solution? ThanksDanny

Hello, On my windows MAs or CS, I have a Commvault DynCache service, that’s listed in the Processes tab of the Process Manager, but not in the Services tab. When I select to stop all CV services, this one is never stopped.I have tried to look for information regarding this service/executable, to know what it is used for, but can’t find any information in docs, and Google has also none.So where’s the best place -outside of CV support- to have information on CV binaries ? You guessed it : over there, so any details about this would be greatly appreciated. 

Hi all, When creating a disk library on a media agent, I get the folllowing error message: Installation Directory lookup failed for given MediaAgent. Doesn’t matter if I select a local folder or a network location… We are running feature release 11.24… Anyone any idea where to look? Regards,Bart

SQL AON backup is configured and it is known that the DB backup runs via primary node and log backup runs based on the preference settings. It was running as expected.  However, when the failover happens at DB side primary becomes secondary and vice versa. But the SQL Backup Master is still pointing to the same old primary node.  How can we make the SQL backup master services to be rolled back to the new primary node.

Hi, I’m currently having a HyperScale X2.2 configure with two bonds (one DP, one SP) I will need to add another one, on a different network to create a DIP. What is the best way ? On the Linux prompt ./cvnwlacpbond.py -c -m 802.3ad -t sp -i 172.19.80.201 -f enpsf7 enps11 -n 255.255.255.0 ? Is it going to be an SP network or it needs to be and DP network or ? There is no default gateway on this network ! 

I’m in process of replacing a couple of Windows based Commvault A600 media agent appliances with Linux based media agents that are virtualized.  We downsized greatly and our backup needs are a lot smaller, plus the A600s are now EOL. I’m trying to gather all best practices for configuring the Linux MA, specifically regarding disk parameters (size, blocksize, alignment,etc.).  The A600s were originally built by an automated setup process built by Commvault out of box. I’m doing this all manually for the new build. My current MA houses about 10TB of data, which works out to an app size of about 45TB.  My DDB currently consumes about 30GB on disk.  Our needs will likely decrease over time vs increase. I plan to provide a single 12TB volume (64KB block size) for the library content and about a 100GB single volume (4KB block size) for the dedupe database. Is this OK?  The A600 is currently able to provide 150TB and the setup created

Team,From last 2 weeks we are observing performance issues with Vmware snapshot backup over SAN mode.vMware backup jobs are taking 2-3 days to complete , throughput has declined from 1 TB/hr to 50 GB/hr.The underlying backup library is healthy with no disk failures .I see in command center health report that disk pruning status as critical for global vmware deduplication policy . data aging is running on daily basis .How can i manually run pruning of DDB ? Is there any impact on running backup while pruning DDB manually. There is an option to validate and Also , what does Read, write and network % means in Average throughout which is very low .Average throughput 64.27 GB/hr(Read: 14.19%, Write: 0.83%, Network: 84.96%)Regards, Mohit

We are currently having Commvault setup in Amazon. To our customers we are having a cascading Network proxy. Commvault is setting up a tunnel from the Network proxy in amazon to the network proxy at our customer site.I would like to know what kind of traffic is being used between the two network proxies? (tunnel)Is it save to send this traffic over the internet without VPN? Thanks in advance!

I’ve configured File Archiving for a customer on a Ntapp NAS device.Everything is working correctly during a recall operation on all files that have been archived, except *.pdf files. When you try recall you get the below error:  You’ll click ‘OK’ and then try the recall a second time and it runs successfully and the file opens.Adobe Reader is the default PDF application on the user’s workstation. This is being noted on all user workstations.Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thanks.Mauro
