We currently use IBM V5000 arrays for our Commvault backup target to land our deduped backups. We are starting to review other options to see what other fast, cost effective options are out there. I do prefer to use Fiber Channel connections, but open to options. Since Commvault is really the brain in our scenario, the storage array does not really need any features, just good speed. What Vendor Storage arrays do you use? Are you happy with it?
Hello all,we have a problem to browse “Guest Files an Folders” of VMs using Bios with MBR Partitions where a Recovery Partition with ID 27 is present. [MsgId[0x0e0000f4][Failed to initialize browse request. Check Browse.log on CommServe for more details.]: Args Pushed, Args expected. If i change the Partition ID from 27 to 07 and rerun the backup browsing within this backup is no problem. If i turn it back to 27 and rerun the backup job, browsing is impossible.Commserve and MediaAgents are on Version 11.22.62, our primary Backup target is a Falconstor VTL.
Hello everyone,My CISO has asked be to test restores of OneDrive backups and I’ve found something strange. I have incremental backups configured to run Monday to Thursday at 5:00 PM. On Friday at 5:00 PM, a synthetic full backup runs also at 5:00 PM that includes an incremental backup just before the synthetic full. The storage policy is set so the primary copy has a 14 day retention for all backups and a one year retention for Monthly full backups plus a synchronous replication to a media agent at my DR site which has the same 14 day all / 365 day monthly retention. The weird thing is that when I do a “browse and restore” on the most recent OneDrive synthetic full backup, I see files from my OneDrive that were deleted months ago. Shouldn’t the synthetic full backup be dropping files that are no longer there?Ken
My OneDrive backups are configured to use my Tier 3 Prod (“other” production) storage policy which has a 14 day retention for all backups and a 1 year retention for monthly backup.Today I noticed that a coworker named Simon who moved on to greener pastures more than a year ago still appears in the list of clients when I do a Browse and Restore search on OneDrive users within the CommVault java GUI. The Backup Time reported for Simon’s files falls within the weekly synthetic full backup that runs Saturday nights.I thought there might have been a failure to clean up Azure but when I check admin.microsoft.com, Simon does not appear as an active, guest, or deleted user. I checked with my O365 administrator and Simon’s files appear to have been properly deleted.I don’t understand why his files are still appearing within the CommVault backups. Shouldn’t his OneDrive files have expired by now? Ken
Hi! The exchange guys are in the process of setting up a new exchange cluster, so i am trying to add a new “Exchange DAG” client, but when i try to discover the servers an error pops up with “DAG Discover failed”. I’ve also tried using a proxy, but i get the same error. So, i guess the question is, which log-files should i try to dig into to try and locate where and what the problem with this is ?
So, easy question, what are the requirements for the Live Browse feature?Specifically, does the live browse only work on virtual machines? Is this NOT for physical or agent based backups?(Sorry, searched around and didn’t quite find the answer to the actual requirements/limitations - as some of us do still have physical servers that we back up...)
This is a request for information on best practices and general overview. We are in the process of migrating from our existing file share to VSphere File Shares. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of information since this is a new service from VMware.I believe the best way is to deploy the file system agent to each of the fs share nodes that VSphere created. Since these are Photon OS, the Linux tar file should still be correct^Looking for confirmation or elaboration on both of those points!I found this article referencing NFS shares, but mine are SMB and its response link with the VEEAM add in but it’s not a great correlation with my issue Vmware Vsan NFS share | Community (commvault.com)
Version 11.24I was using a setup with open-replication SVM1 as source and auxcopy to SVM2 as the destination.I was working with a script to set NetApp snapshot snapmirror-label.I was using the Label “CVDaily”. After have getting this to work I noticed that the snapshots was starting to get a label “IntelliSnap”, which wasn’t there in the beginning. What is the procedure to have CV use this label for all NetApp Snapshots every time? There is no references in the current documentation so, it looks like a ‘hidden’ feature.Source:Source view. Notice 1 SP snapshot with my label and next 2 with IntelliSnap labelThe feature request for adding snapmirror-label is still open - but maybe there was a kind developer somewhere after all :)
Could the DDB Verification and the Auxiliary Copy jobs impact on DDB disk in terms of Query & Insert time (the calculation)? We have some Database's Average Q&I Times across Partitions in the last 3 and 14 days with very high values. Backups jobs are running fine. No Performance degradation during backups with a good Deduplication ratio. There are no significant events. Most of the time we’re doing Database Log backups (So, no dedup here) and running Admin Jobs to copy data onto tapes or to create secondary copies. At night, we're doing incremental backups (VMware and FS agents). We have an issue with Synthetic Full backups (https://community.commvault.com/commvault-q-a-2/synthetic-full-is-not-running-based-on-automatic-schedule-settings-2744) and I'm wondering about how this issue also can impact on those times. Some info:VMware VM Media Agents are running updated Linux. 8 CPU cores, 32 GB RAM. DDB Flash disk. Kernel Parameter Configuration done. DDB Verification: Incremental
Hi, I updated the Commserve from release 11.16 to 11.20, now I should update the mediaagents and clients in production, my questions are:- I can do the hot update while the backups are in progress- if the update fails, can I rollback or does the client still remain in 11.16? ThksDario
Hi guys, Recently, we upgraded our CommCell environment, from one of the clients, the upgrade passed successfully, on the CommCell console, the new version is showed up, but on the client side, when checking the commvault services status, we found out that it’s the old version that is still showed up comparing to the other clients. We tried restarting services, but, the issue remained.Any suggestion to clear this issue ? Is there some sort of cache on the clients to be cleared, or anything else ? Regards.
HeyIs there documentation on the exact procedure for running the Windows Updates against the CommServe Windows Server. ie.Put CommServe in to maintenance mode. Stop all CommVault Services in Process manager. Run Windows updates. Reboot Server. Ensure all CV services are up and running.ThanksNeil
FR24 , mentions the following:Security Introduced in Product Change Learn More Feature Release 24 Users and User Groups When you create a user, verify that the email address is unique and not used by another user in the CommCell environment. Creating a User How can we avoid that new terrible limitation? In a tenant environment, users can belong to different companies, using the same email address.
hi, i want to use a webhook for MS Teams to send our CV alterts directly to a dedicated MS Teams channels. The configuration seems easy. Within commandcenter i added the webhook url provided by MS Teams.Under Monitoring alerts i defined some “standard” definitions like:Backup Job suceeded to be sent to the webhook. No adaptions within the template were made. But in the webhook configuration it always shows me: Webhook offline (date) Has someone managed already a webhook integration with MS Teams and may share his insights, what changes to the standard configuration is necessary. thanks
Hi we have a 3rd backup copy to Metallic cloud (we purchased 10TB)I specified 7 Days & 1 cycle so on the job logs i see 2 SYNTH FULL + INC (see attached)But this config takes a lots of storage on Metallic and i would like to optimize as its our 3rd copyI would like to keep only the last FULL backup (+ INC). So what would be the result if i specified 7 Days 0 Cycle, or is it another setting (or i m completely wrong :)) thanks
hi everyone, after regular snapshot backup the Commvault doesn't delete snapshots. As of this moment, the snapshot capacity is above 22Twe are not working with IntelliSnap or some solutions, our vSphere version is 6.7u3I would be happy for any help or suggestion.thank you!
Hello, One of our client has Archive backup on tapes which is configured in one location and that type of infra is managed by local Commserve server. There is a question about the possibility of migration that Archive backup to AZURE. In the end client would like to get all archive backup in AZURE cloud with possibility of manage the backup from Commserve in AZURE cloud which is a different machine (Global solution for organization). And my question what will be the best approach for that migration and how to calculate the storage usage in AZURE for that migration process? Regards, Michal
Hello everyone and thanks in advance for any hint.I’m running a Commvault V11Sp20 installation of the software and recently had a 6TB Oracle Database migrated from a stand-alone Oracle 12 DB to a three-node Oracle RAC 19 installation. Backups work properly and, “randomly” the three nodes are involved in backup jobs.Problem is: dedupe ratio is low. While the stand-alone data reached 95/97% of dedupe ratio, these backups for the Oracle RAC instances reach 40/65% of dedupe ratio. That is, a single Full backup takes something like 3TB of disk library (the very same disk library hosting the GDP previously used for storing the stand-alone Oracle DBs backups). Any hints about why the dedupe ratio is so low? Thanks in advance for your kind opinion. Regards
