Hi all,We have configured SAP HANA agent backups, what works as expected. Buckups runing, stored in the configured library and retained according to Storage Policy. On Commvault side, only the necessary backups can be seen. But on HANA side in HANA Studio, all of the backup jobs can be seen. Even those that are no longer available because they have been deleted due to retention time.Is it possible to synch HANA backup catalog to Commvault available backups? If there are basic and extendly reteined backup jobs, retention time config on HANA side, won't be correct. But, if retention time config on HANA side is the only solution, then it can be good for basic retained jobs. If extendly reteined job restore needed, External Backup ID available on Commvault side and can be used for restore in HANA studio.
Hello, Is it possible to customize the default scratch pool for a storage copy to tape created in a Server Plan (second copy to tape)? Or it will always be Default Scratch Pool and I need to go to the Commcell Console and change in there? Regards,Pedro
Hello all! Consider the following:3 HSX RA nodes as Linux VSA access nodes1 Windows VM as Windows VSA access node I would like to backup all VMs (Win/Linux) using only the 3 HSX nodes. So I would configure the instance proxy tab with those 3 HSX nodes as proxies. Is that right? When restoring, if Windows, have the Windows VSA automatically selected. I would like to run the restore procedure without having to manually select the Windows VSA proxy. Can it be automatically selected without being listed in the VMware Instance proxy tab? Regards,Pedro
Hello,We are planning to migrate the commserve from win server 2012 OS server to new hardware win 2019. Also we are planing to upgrade Simpana, our Simpana is 11.20.Which upgrade method is suitable for us?Should I upgrade Simpana on the old server before migrating Commserve to the new server, or install Windows on the new server and upgrade there?Thank you!Best regards,Elizabeta
Hi,i want to delete my old B2D library. On my new library i have used the same mountpoints, see screenshot. Is it possible to delete the old offline library or do i then also delete the content of the mount points of the new library?Another question:I have create new storage policies. From the old storage policies i have removed the tapes from the library and put them into a safe.Is it possible to delete the old storage policies or is it then not possible to restore from my tapes i have inserted into the safe?RegardsDennis
Hello, I am trying to P2V a Windows Machine with the Virtualize me feature. The P2V works well but the machine doesn’t keep the name.1 how should I proceed to keep the name of the machine and not have WIN-xxxxxxxx I don’t want to loose the SID and domain connectivity 2 also, I need to put online each disk, is it a normal behavior ? Thanks !
The DDB Verification Job is scheduled to run an Incremental Verification of existing jobs on disk and dedup database, but Incremental data verification job is persistently converted to full. Why?
Hi, When a HSX block is deployed, each of the 3 nodes are presented as separate MAs in the commvault environment? Thanks,Pedro
Hello all. We have 6 Hs2300s and 1 RO1200, all the same supermicro servers underneath. We have 10Gb fibre cards in them. The Bios sees the cards, the OS sees them as physical interfaces, and we believe the SFPS, cabling and switch config is correct. However on both the Windows and the Linux it shows as network cable unplugged/no link detected, and the switch shows no presence on the line.We have a call raised with CV but has anyone else seen this? Is there some setting in the Bios we need to apply?
My Web Console Health Report simultaneously shows a critical issue with Database Index Fragmentation and zero indexes with >50% Fragmentation. Is this something I can fix or do I need top open a support ticket? Thanks in advance for any help.Ken
Hello. Is this a valid configuration in a non dedup scenarioLibrary with two pathsMedia agent A on-prem with a disk pathMedia agent B cloud with a disk pathNone of the media agents can reach each other. The clients using a storage policy with the above library is configured to override the default path and use an explicit path that is within their zones, for on prem clients they use Media Agent A and clients in the cloud use media agent B.We are in the midst of a migration and the above would reduce the number of stg policies created.//Henke
2 SAP HANA servers have problems with the Commvault client. The commvault.service is not starting, no such file or directory.I did Readiness Check and Restart All Services from the Commcell console for the 2 client but it is not working. I tried to repair the software in one of the server but issue is the same.Any advise?
How to change client name for linux machine in commvault 2022e?
Good day All,I am in the process of onboarding a MongoDB cluster in the backup environment. It is a 3-node replica set.During the initial configuration and testing all the settings were left as default. This includes using the Native snap engine. The backup fails due to insufficient free capacity/extents on the Volume Group. I understand how this need to be fixed. What are the considerations for selecting a different Snap Engine? These MongoDB instances are located on VMWare.Or is the only supported engine the Native one?https://community.commvault.com/commvault-q-a-2/backup-mongodb-without-intellisnap-4327 Since mongodump can only be used on Standalone instances as part of a Pre/Post script according to the following link "https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/43131_performing_full_backup_of_standalone_mongodb_deployment.html" when using the File System agent what are the other options?Am I correct in assuming that mongodump is not supported on replica sets?I have setup VM ba
I have a commvault client that appears to be backing up the HANA database via the filesystem subclient, and I set the nFilterApplicationFiles setting and a full ran over the weekend and there was no change in the size and files backed up, and looking at the content of the backup, it appears there’s > 2 TB of data backed up in the fileystem subclient that’s in the /hana/shared/[db] path. I was under the impression that nFilterApplicationFiles would prevent that… but the “database discovered” is located in the pseudoclient, not the SAP for HANA agent associated to the server level commvault client…. Questions:Does the nFilterApplicationFiles setting “work like it should” by not backing up the HANA database when the HANA pseudoclient is used as the backup method, and backups are “pushed” to commvault via the SAP/HANA side (using backint?). Are there other settings/configs to make it work? Like something I would have to do in the “SAP for HANA” subclient? I coudl manually add in filesy
Customer requests a temporary blackout window between two dates. They want a period of 4 days without any activity. When I try to create the blackout window, I am able to select the start and end date, but the console won’t allow me to configure the start/end time such a way that it stops all activity in that period. The customer would like to stop backup at 02pm at one date, then start again at 03am 4 days later.I can’t save this setting because the console says “Start time should be less than end time”Any workaround for this?
Hello,I want to schedule a 14 days - daily retention, with weekly and monthly (GFS extended retention) and Im looking for best practice about Cycles.Im thinking to schedule a synthetic full every 7 days, but what about Cycles? 1 or 2? Thank you in advance,Nikos
Hello team,I have 4 media agents on AWS that are used to backup sap databases. The schedule is done through third part application.I need to update the Commserve and the 4 media Agent installed as gridstorI remember the last time I put in maintenance mode one by one each media agent but I have the impression that the jobs fell in error instead of terminating gracefully.any advice lease ?Thanks !
Hi, Is it possible to create an alert only for Out Of Place restore? the alert should include the destination IP (if possible). In alerts customization i found a way to create alerts for restores, but not for Out-of-place only
Hello community, sometimes, while performing backups of 7-8 TB VMs, I find errors like this one in the logs, especially when such jobs take a very long timeNetwork timeout. DDB Engine did not respond within the timeout period. DDB: MI_GDP_LOCAL_VMs_6, DDB Id: 6. Source: MI-MEDIA, Process: vsbkpthis example comes from Jan 28 at 5:31:13 am At the same time, in the Events tab of the Job Details I see the following eventFailed to remove the backup snapshot for virtual machine [MI-SERVER], the snapshot may need to be manually removed. [The operation has timed out.] I think it is reasonable to assume they are related, correct?Given such cases, should I extend the timeout for snapshot deletion? Thank you!Gaetano
Am helping on a site where we have Windows file archive in place where most stubs / complete files can be recovered fine with no issues, however there are a few stubs that simply wont recover correctly nd are just replaced as a stub instead of the original file. Have tried the following:select - restore data instead of stub out of place recover direct to the windows Media Agent (bypass any client network issues) out of place recover to Linux file system to rule out AV, windows domain file permissions (only stub was recovered, not complete file, ran job twice with restore data instead of stub...) Cross Hardware restore option. checked for any strange windows / domain file permissions - all seem good. Full data verification on tape was run and completed 100%busy running a new Aux copy to second tape and will test recall from that copy precedence. (only one copy is on tape.. not best practice, however I didn't set it up this way) nothing much in the logs. I increase logging on the restore
I have the situation where I have customers who have backups on an older Commvault infrastructure and they want to move their Backup service with another provider without losing the long retention backups.I don't see any other possibility than importing tapes or restoring and copying old backups. Both options do not seem viable to me.I don't think so, but I wanted to ask the community if anyone knows of a way to transfer those backups between Commvault infrastructures.
Hi all, I haven’t personally worked with commvault before as a business level backup solution and would like some feedback after suggested by phone support to lodge a Q&A here for assistance. So apologies if I am not clear on my questions as I am navigating learning/reading up this. So my client is using Commvault version is 11.20.90 which is originally setup on a virtual machine to use as their backups / recovery solution for VM systems and data. IT admins use SSO but I can see there’s a local admin account for it which was likely setup when it was first spun up along with it using MySQL.So we’re changing the use of a local administrator account to be either turned off or updating its local password for the application and from the article below it states that Commvault requires administrator role for its service account to run. See article below; I am intending or at least want to change this however I want to ensure when I make the change if there’s a support article / guide fo
HI All,just curious has anyone already some experience with the combination CommVault i-Serie VTL solution? How does this perform and stable is it? thanks.Michel
Hi all I saw the other topic on this exact issue. It was mentioned that FR26 would improve performance of a restore operation. Failing that Intellisnap could be leveraged for this.Unfortunately we are still seeing the same performance. The original poster mentioned that Commvault support mentioned that the max throughput is 60Gb/hr. We’re seeing close to this on our side. We’re also restoring managed disks. Is there any documentation that will confirm the limitation mentioned in the post on the 60Gb/hr limit, and would there be any workaround to try improve this? a 400GB VM takes about 10-12 hours to recover. Regards,Mauro
