Hi,I’m wondering if it is possible to archive DFS files. One approach would be to backup DFS as a network share, but then the recall process would not be as transparent as archive on normal file server, so that’’s not my first choice. It seems like a better solution would be to just install Driver for File Archiver on every DFS node and archive files from one of them, but that way there is no HA in case archiving node is down. Since I cannot find anything in the documentation regarding DFS archive I’m not even sure if that is a supported solution. I’m just guessing here.Can anyone advice what would be the best approach here?

Hey champs, Any one have any experience of priority between Network Gateways? There should be a setting priority=1 in FwConfig.txtWould that work well to set in VSA servers in a VMware cluster to spans over 2 datacenters to prioritize the traffic to the closest Network Gateway where all backup infrastructure is behind those proxies? RegardsDaniel

Hi: I’ve searched the content here and could not find an answer, sorry if this has been discussed previously. I’m interested in the possible actions after ransomware detection capabilities state that some files are malware. How do you “clean the backups” from attacking files that could be lurking around for some time?Is there an automated way, or should the admin do a manual search and delete? Thanks! JP

Hello all,I have a, what I think is a pretty straight forward question, from one of my customers’ Security guys regarding Service Accounts and the storing of the passwords.As an MSP we do not hold the Service Account credentials and they are entered over screenshares for SQL, Oracle etc, however, the question arose surrounding the storing of the Service Account passwords in the CSDB.Are the passwords hashed when stored or encrypted in any way in the CSDB? And if required, are the Service Account passwords recoverable?Thanks in advanced for any responses.

Hi all,our task is to implement Quantum ActiveVault feature in the Commvault environment. ActiveVault should  create a special room (for the tapes) inside the tape library, that is not visible for any (backup) application. According to me, in CV we should adjust schedule policy or create VaultTracker policy, that moves full tapes to I/E (and then to defined export location). Once the tape is in the I/E slot, the quantum tape library can mark this tape as part of special room and the tape looks like it is outside from CV point of view. Then, once data are aged, an administrator has to manually move tapes to I/E by clicking in the GUI environment of the tape library. The thing is, how to find out, which tapes should be moved back to library since they are aged.I think, it is necessary to have Due back for reuse policy type, isnt it? So, firstly run a report to find tapes for return, secondly move manually tapes in management console of the library and lastly run VaultTracker policy? Am I

My first answer would be no, as it is your only backdoor account, if there is a disaster and you need to restore anything.I also looked at the documentation and they mention enabling it for the CommCell which is for everyone, but does that include the built-in Admin account?Many thanks in advance for clarifications.Carl

Hi all,we have successfully set up a Vault Tracker Policy and there are a couple of tapes to be exported in view media review.However, if I click on run now and check Actions under VaultTracker option, I can see the action with the running status but nothing is being done next.Do you have any idea what I am missing? Of course, we have marked Auto Acknowledge under Vault Tracker Policy Properties. Is there any log or additional settings which needs to be adjusted?

Hi,Is it possible for Commvault to track the Master node in a PostgreSQL configuration?I am aware that the backup can be performed from the Standby node. The customer has several Postgresql instances in the environment, some have more than one standby node in the replication setup.They make use of an application called Cluster Control for the management, configuration and monitoring of the servers and database instances. This includes automatic fail over.If a backup is initiated on a node that is not the master then the backup will fail with something like “Unable to put cluster in backup mode”.I get by this by disabling the backup activity on the client but this is not ideal with when there is multiple db’s in play.Any advice will be appreciated.Cheers.Ignes 

Hi,In our environment we want to free up disk library space by aging off the data for disabled subclients which might still be eating up the space due to their backup cycle retention criteria not met. I came across this setting in control panel>Media Management Configuration>Data Aging (“Ignore cycle retention on backup activity disabled subclients”) which if we set to 1 should clean up data based on days only retention set in the corresponding storage policy and ignore its cycles retention portion for the disabled subclients.I would like to know if anyone has used this setting in their environment and if any risks associated with this setting like data aging taking more time to complete or causing performance issues in commcell due to first run of data aging after enabling this setting?Also if later on we enable the backup activity for that subclient will the existing backups (which still have not met days only criteria)  and any new backups, will they again start following cycl

Hi everybody, Hope you’re doing well! My question is about index backup retention. As far as I know, index backup jobs are kept on the backup media until there are at least three versions present on the backup media; and thatCommvault backup the index in same storage policy as the backed up data (Default).My question: Is the retention from the storage policy applied to the index backup, or it is managed differently: Which means that, whatever is configured as the retention on the Storage policy, it keeps only the three last copies of the index backup?Thanks in advance for your help ! Regards

Hi,We’re currently looking at a possibility to change the maximum number of concurrent Synthetic Full backups for clients using the same Schedule Policy. The additional setting “MaxSyntheticFullJobsForSPolicy” seems like the perfect solution to this. However, I’m not getting it to work. I added it to the additional settings of the CommServe machine, and even restarted services but they all keep running concurrently.There is an additional setting “JMSynthFullJobHighWaterMark” that limits the amount of concurrent Synth Fulls, but that’s for the entire CommCell so not really a solution. I tested this additional setting and this one however works correctly. But the “MaxSyntheticFullJobsForSPolicy” additional setting seems to get ignored. I’m running LTS version 11.20 on HFP 77. Anyone having the same issue?Jeremy

Would you recommend installing the iData agent on the VM template?We need to deploy a Windows file system restore-only agent that is also registered in CommCell for ransomware monitoring (Monitoring Unusual File Activity).We're looking for a simpler solution than having it installed each time we deploy a new server. We already have VSA backups running in the environment, so the restore-on;y agent installation is primarily for File activity anomaly alerting. Thanks in advance for your advise.

I was working on a client that seemed to have a corrupted install. I uninstalled the client, and reinstalled and crap. it produced a duplicate instead of connecting to existing client, is there a way to force the client to associate properly?

Hello,I am utilizing a VM Sockets license, and I have been told I can no longer (buy) anymore sockets to add onto my license any longer. Is this accurate?

In Commvault version 11 - Is it possible to automatically Suspend ALL running Jobs at 7:00 AM, stop new jobs from running, then Resume ALL jobs at 7:00 PM?  Let me know if this isn’t clearly stated.
