the Commvault service on Linux systems is configured with a timeout of 900 seconds. This means, if the service is not properly starting or stopping, systemd will wait 15 minutes until it will fail. $ grep Timeout /etc/systemd/system/commvault.serviceTimeoutSec=900 We faced this problem today when rebooting a server and had to wait 15 minutes just for it to properly shut down because of this. Is there any way of configuring it to a lower value by any additional settings on the commcell console ?I’ve already try to add an additional setting called : nJobProcessRegistrationTimeout ( with a value of 90 ) but it doesn’t seem to help.
We are employing CIS hardening standards on Windows Server 2019 and finding this breaks the agent push install via Commserve. Has anyone got any experience of the specific setting that’s blocking the install? Thanks.

Hello Team, We have 2 different Commvault services on our 2 different CommServe servers. However, these services did not work even though we rebooted the servers, even though they were automatic startup types. We want to know what these services do and we want to know if they are safe to run manually. This one is exist on Active Node: This one is on Passive Node:
Hello guys, The Customer has noticed that the StopProc.vbs script that is based in C:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\Base\StopProc.vbs is always trying to reach the following public IP addresses:104.83.4.209104.83.4.160 104.87.169.183Do you know, what these addresses are? Is it normal behaviour? Rgds,Kamil
We have certain users who are wanting to be able to create reports for their clients being backed up inside of Commvault. We are wanting to only allow them to view their client(s), libraries, and jobs without the capability of adding/remove/editing/creating. The Only thing we we want them to add/edit are reports that they can create for their environment and that's it. Somehow back in May they were able to stop one of their jobs due to it causing a connection issue to the client causing a network traffic. this was an illegal operation which they performed, and my managment was not happy. I have attached their role profile. I am confused as to how they were able to perform this action based on the role settings. Any help as to get to the reult of what we are looking for is greatly appreciated.
Hi Team,While i’m analysing the CVD.logs for throughput performance, i came across below log lines. Could anyone let me know what exactly this “[DSBackup Media Write Speed]|[SI-FS Write Speed]” mean. 3656 1f88 07/18 22:10:04 18353869 36732866-15678140 [MEDIAFS ] stat- ID [SI-FS Write Speed] Curr Avg [266.427289] MB/Sec, Bytes [4442359565]; Total Avg [248.489585] MB/Sec, Bytes [23789746698], Time [91.30] Secs3656 1338 07/18 22:14:58 18353869 36732716-15677987 [MEDIAFS ] stat- ID [SI-FS Write Speed] Curr Avg [276.214578] MB/Sec, Bytes [4342956797]; Total Avg [250.473715] MB/Sec, Bytes [26698267250], Time [101.65] Secs3656 11e0 07/18 22:14:59 18353869 stat- ID [DSBackup Media Write Speed], Job Id [18353869], Bytes [26676276177], Time [171.044157] Sec(s), Average Speed [148.736325] MB/Sec3656 14e8 07/18 22:17:11 18353869 36732715-15677986 [MEDIAFS ] stat- ID [SI-FS Write Speed] Curr Avg [275.004296] MB/Sec, Bytes [4072931898]; Total Avg [269.588948] MB/Sec, Bytes [1141406
Hello, The security department send us this report where appears to be some vulnerabilities from Commvault, do you know if there is some fixes regarding this? Thank you.Regards, Jmiamaral
I have successfully set up a pre-scan command and it does what I want. Now I also want it to output a line of information into any of the standard Commvault logs, so that it will appear when I right-click the job > View logs > For the job.The command is simply a line of Windows CMD.exe instead of a script. This is for a NAS backup, using snapshots as the content source, and what the command does is find the most recent snapshot (a different pathname every time) and create a symbolic link to it (the same pathname every time). But it would also be useful to record against the job, in Commvault logs, the name of the snapshot that was selected.I tried adding a statement (echo “Using snapshot <snapshotname> for backup">&2) to see if it would get picked up, but what happened was the Pre-Scan phase hung and the command never completed. Is there any file handle that the Commvault logger monitors on pre/post commands, or do I need to set up a custom logfile for this? For anyone i
Hi,Just tried to install Commvault agent (with File System Core and File System packages ) on a new Redhat Linux 4 Server but got the below error message The CommServe version is 11.25.23Checked the username (which is root) and password using SSH, no problem. So, it seems to me, it is the Commvault that is not happy somewhere. I’m just wondering if somebody could point me to the right direction as to where to start to investigate the above issue ? Thanks, Kelvin
My coworkers and I are able to reach https://ma.commvault.com - we are prompted for our passwords, and the page reaches https://sso.commvault.com/connect/authorize?<<string> but then after about 1-2 minutes we are kicked to an error page.Does commvault have an ‘online service status page’ like many big websites have (https://api.twitterstat.us ) that would allow us to check to see at a glance if a necessary service - like your maintenance/support page - was running?
HI @Mike Struening i have got the same issue the “initrd” file has occupied 1.7GB of space in /tmp - can you help me knowing why it is created for certain servers alone when the backups fail or completed with errors, and not on other clients which are completing fine? /cvcreateinitrd.sh initrd.img /var/log/commvault/Log_Files/bootcd.log /opt/commvault/iDataAgent/systemrecovery/bootimage Instance001' failed + commvault
Hello, next problem. I have deleted a Exchange DAG Client, now I can not delete the member servers. The members still have the Exchange Datebase and default subclient. The following error message appears when I try to delete: When I create a new Exchange DAG client, its not possible to discover/add the members. Is there any hard delete or something or do I have to open support case. Thanks so much for every answer.
Hi Team,I came across the below setting in Media Management configuration. “Data Threshold (in GB) to decide how to distribute data among streams for backup”Question: I would like to know if this parameter is applicable for backup job or Aux copy job or for both. Thanks & Regards,Harshavardhan.
I have restored a copy of a Mssql database to a server via Comvault how do i verify the point in time backup that was recovered by the Comvault process in the Comvault logs. This is for verification that correct database date\time was recovered . thanks in advance
I need a complete comparison between CommVault archiving and Enterprise Vault (Strength and weakness for both )
When CommVault creates an RMAN backup script it includes a SEND statement with several switches. I assume it’s sending these switches for CommVault settings.Example:send "BACKUP -jm 32813 -a 2:8033 -cl 4762 -ins 1521 -at 22 -j 28884797 -jt 28884797:4:2:0:54493 -bal 0 -t 1 -ms 4 -data"; I have been searching the documentation high and low and I cannot find a definition for what these switches do. Does any know or have a link to a doc that tells what all these switches do?
Scenario - Three way NDMP backup from Isilon. The Isilon is using an IP pool of x.x.x.x (eg 192.168.1.1 - .4) for NDMP operations The media agent has a primary IP of y.y.y.y (eg 192.168.2.1). I have put a second IP on the media agent that is in the same subnet as the Isilon, eg 192.168.1.250. This second IP is on a different nic from the primary IP. When I do a backup of the Isilon the job fails due to “network communication error”. When I look at the logs the problem seems to be that the nasbackup command is still using the media agents original primary IP and not the new secondary IP. I have tried setting up DIP/Backup Network pair but the job still fails and the logs show that the media agent primary IP is still being used. Is it possible for the NDMP backup to use a specified ip address for the MediaAgent that is not the primary IP? Based on a bit of digging around in the forum it seems that DIPs are not used for NDMP traffic management since the NDMP server (Isilon) is not really
Hello,We are running an HANA database in a cluster setup, with a primary and secondery Linux machine.I have an problem when doing cross platform restore of an HANA database. We are trying to restore an production enviroment HANA database and restore it from the production Linux machine (host) to a stage/development host / machine. The restore is starting, but it is restoring the database into the secondary machine (host) in the cluster instead of the primary machine.I can describe further and attach screenshot to explain better.Best regardsFredrik AndreassonAxians Linux team
Hi fellow Commvaulters, We’ve launched a restore of an OpenStack instance, which the job failed with the following error : The job has overwritten the Instance, which means that it is now deleted, and we are not able to restore it.Any suggestion of what can be the root cause of the error ? Kind regards.
Hi, I understand that conditions must be satisfied before a failover (CS Livesync) is automatically executed (if enabled)I have a question about this.Does this immediately happen after these conditions are met or does it wait and checks it the conditions a (few) minutes later again before going over? And if that there is some delay, is it configurable? Thanks,Danny
In the following site IntelliSnap Protection for VMs on VVol or VSAN/VxRail Datastores (commvault.com), it is mentioned under Considerations the following point: You can only perform a live browse or restore operation for files on guest VM RAID-5 volumes from a backup copy. File restores for RAID-5 volumes are not supported from a snap copy. Can you please elaborate a bit this sentence? Does it mean that we cannot perform file restore with backup of vSAN datastore if we do not have a backup copy? Why RAID-5 volumes? Thanks & Regards
Hello Community,For sharepoint online apps, we can see a value called “Sites” at the application level (see screenshot 1 - 1746 sites reported) , with a value which is greater than the number of items that are listed and that should correspond to the sites backed up (see screenshot 2 - 1159 items reported). The last backup status for that client indicates that 1159 sites have been backed up (see screenshot 3).So what is the definition for the “Sites” value provided at the top level of the application ?Regards,Pierre
What does Maximum archive file count in secondary object value means?
Hi there, I need to generate some .csrs from CommVault for our CA, who require RSA 4096 keys. Java Keytool should accept a -keysize switch to define key length, but I can’t find how to set this value for cvCertTool.cmd. Is this even possible? Thanks.
