I have a client that is looking to migrate to plans, I have built out their required classes & retentions in a lab the only thing I have a question about is the synthetic full scheduling, they have a requirement to run a weekly synthetic full.  When you create a plan it creates the schedule for a full in line with the primary retention as an automatic schedule every 30 days.Is it still acceptable to edit the schedule policy in the Java GUI for the synthetic full from “Every 30 days”  to say a shorter period of time (ie 7 days) and allow the full backup window to handle the window or change from the automatic schedule to a weekly schedule with a set time?I want to achieve the flexibility of plans for them but also meet their requirements.

Good evening folks I have a customer who experienced an issue with one of their servers and it seems it broke the Commvault application.The Commserve can no longer communicate with the client (DIPs are defined).We tried to repair the installation with no success. We uninstalled and then reinstalled Commvault successfully interactively (Remote option doesn’t work at the moment).The interactive installation takes a long time to register to the Commserve, but does eventually complete. The Commserve does not reflect the change however.We noticed that there’s a locked ‘cvd’ process on the client and suspect that it may be the problem. The Unix admin suggests we reboot the client and try again.Before we go this route, is it possible to kill this process manually? It’s the one that’s been flagged with 24Apr.Thanks so muchRegards,Mauro

Hello, i was working on a Document restore for a customers sharepoint environment.we noticed when selecting an out of place location in the restore that we did not have the option to select a sub dir in the browse.we can only select the root of a site. see screendump: the customer wants to know if there will be an option available to restore To a different subset of site?i was not able to find details in the BOL: https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/136058_restoring_sharepoint_online_document_to_another_sharepoint_site.html kind Regards, Thos Gieskes.

What is the migration path for new Media agent; we have some servers which send archived data to a Media agent which is getting old; we want to move to a new media agent; usually for backups we just migrate to new hardware and do new full backups; we maintain aux copies so have historical data at a secondary location; however for archived data the data would still exist in old MA; would we require to aux copy the data to new MA before we can switch the jobs 

Using simpana 11.20.46I have done a last backup from an old OES server who has been decommissioned.This server has 2 sub clients: the linux file system and the OES file system. The storage policy takes a backup of both clients (the LX agent and the OES agent)This backup have been finally written to tape, using a synchronous storage policy, after that I have checked that the data on these tapes was valid and write protected the tapes. I can see the LX and the OES backup.Then I have removed this client completely from Simpana, now I want to check whether it is possible to restore from these write protected tapes.So I have putted again these tapes into the library, I have catalogued these, no errors at all, I can see the catalogued contents and also a dummy client has been created, but only with 1 sub client: the linux file system.So now when I try to see the jobs, I only see the linux jobs but I would prefer to see the OES ones…. Any tips???Thank you in advance, Ricard Malvesi Saguer 

Im getting this error when i try to add a new azure stack hub cleint to commvault. Error Code: [91:139] Description: Unable to connect to virtual machine host as user . Failed to get AzureStack URLs, Please make sure Azure PowerShell is installed on the proxy]Azure powershell is installed. Does anyone know how to get past this issue?

Hello, I would like to replace the WebServer certificate. But the new certificate for the server is in pem format. but the keytool accepts only crt. How can I still import the certificate into the mykeystore.jks ?Regards Thomas

Hello guys, I need your help. The Customer has an Exchange DAG pseudo-client with subclient ‘databases’ configured as a subclient that contains all DAG databases.They have removed some databases from Exchange DAG nodes (on server level).However, after click on ‘Discover’ button, deleted databases are still visible as a content.  The CS and Exchange nodes are running 11.20.46. Exchange version is 2016. I cannot find any hotfix regarding to this issue. As a workaround, the Customer put deleted databases to default subclient and disabled activity on subclient level. Any ideas how to fix it? Rgds,Kamil

Hi, GuysI am currently running a Database Archiving project for a company and there’s a little issue which has delayed the progress.After we archived some production tables, the INDEXES and CONSTRAINTs for that particular table is not present on the storage.We tried to explain that, Backup and Archiving are different, the INDEXES and CONSTRAINTS are present in backup but absent in ARCHIVING, They insisted that, they would need the CONSTRAINTS and INDEXES on the STAGING server and Archiviing storage for reporting purpose. Is there a way to achieve this? 

Hello Is it possible to get an alert when the automatic SQL instance discovery discovers a new SQL instance?I would like to get some sort of alert of when this happens to insure that no new instances go unnoticed and unconfigured.If it is possible how do you set it up?  

Hi Vaulters.I have a customer that implemented backup replication from prod to DR. Now, they are asking if they can configure their existing DR replica of the backup as their air-gapped copy. Is this possible?If yes, is there any documentation that we can check to do this?Thanks in advance!

There is a requirement to check 90 servers backup status (Servers belongs to different policy domain). Is there any best way to do it because I am following below method where I have to include the server name one by one. 

I have a client who has SQL admins using WAC to launch backups/restores for their day to day changes, db refresh, devops, pre/post-change backups, etc. outside of the control of backup environment. They developed these procedures without consulting data protection team, storage team, security team. WAC launches scripts from the client server with a generic account, for anyone with access to the client.In the scheme of things it goes unnoticed when you have ten thousand plus backups running daily. However this causes problems over time with unanticipated storage requirements, retention of nonproduction DBs, failed scheduled backups, etc. Not even going to go into regulatory and audit implications. I have two camps, one that wants to remove this unapproved use the backup infra for SQL production purposes and another that wants to secure these procedures. Oh the DBAs don’t want any change.Any thoughts out there in CV land? I wish to remain impartial, but the security aspect is worrisome.

Hi  All,Is there a way to get the size of data backed up in GB/TB for a time period (a month)

I am looking for data on restores. Specifically we would like to know how many days back the data is from the day the restores was ran. I am not able to locate something in Commvault that will give that data. Knowing this information about the restores our company does would help us size tiers of backup data. For example how long to keep data on fast storage before it is moved to another tier.Thanks!

Hello Guys, I need your help. I am deplying a VM protection (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) in the Customer’s environment.The Customer has the following configuration:  CS and MA are located outside of Internal Network.RHEV Manager Server is located behind the Firewall.VSA Proxy is a part of the RHEV environment (VM running Linux OS) I created a Client Group called ‘DMZ’, then I put the VSA proxy to this group.I also set the Network Route for DMZ group as follows:From Infastructure Group - BlockedThen I set the Network Route for Infastructure group as follows:From DMZ Group - Restricted (port 8403) Is anything alse that I need to do to create a RHEV pseudo-client?Do you think that this Firewall configuration should work or maybe I should set the Firewall in different way? Rgds,Kamil

Hi,from one of our customers we have updated the commvault environment from sp12 to sp20. After the upgrade, the customer noticed that during the restore jobs of microsoft sql database, in the job details events window, the various steps of the restore are no longer displayed, but only at the end of  the job the complete/failed event appear. Hi! As you know, Commvault’s alerts are supported with SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, but do you know why SNMPv2 is not supported? One of our customers is using v2 and he is interesting to use this protocol… Thanks.
