Hi all, could you please explain to me the differences between deduplication on Client vs Deduplication on Media agent when taking into account NDMP backup and backup of VMs? Of course, for file system agent, the deduplication on client occurs on the client (server with os) itself. However, when backing up VMs (using Hotadd or SAN mode) what does mean deduplication on client? There is only pseudo virtual server client/agent, so deduplication (on client) take place on VSA proxy? And for NDMP backup - where is done deduplication on client? There, the data should be sent without any intervetion with filesystem, to be backed up. I will be very gratefull for your anwers!
Hello what is the actual access node requirement for HPE scality using Amazon S3 service ,the below line is confusing me , does it mean if i have more than 1 access node those should have same OS or i should install the same os of hpe scality
Greetings all I have a customer who decomissioned Commvault a few months back and they now need to recover some data. The Commserve and Media Agents were deleted. We intend to restore the last DR_SET backup that was taken to create a new Commserve and a new Media Agent (Linux). The Library was configured as a NFS share and that backup data is still available in the cloud provider’s infrastructure. In order to access the mount path, do I just share it in the ‘Sharing’ tab on the original Media Agent’s properties and then add the data path in the Storage Policy copy (wasn’t the primary copy). The DDB is on longer available, but we wouldn’t need it just for restores. We’re only restoring File System Data. Is there anything else I need to consider? Thanks,Mauro
Hello, I need to move CV SQL Tempdb to a different drive.I’ve found in the documentation there is a SQL Server Relocate TempDb workflow, but I’m unable to find it on the CV store. What I’m doing wrongThanks and regards
Hi All.Just wondering if it’s possible to disable Commvaults try to contact api.skyhookwireless.com:443?The api.skyhookwireless.com:443 is being used by the CVD service to verify a servers location, which we do not need. But still, Commvault uses energy on trying, our firewall uses energy on stopping Commvault from trying, our customers asks why our backup solution try’s to contact some unknown service on the internet. Anyone knows if this is possible? Regards-Anders
how many media agents i can add to each Azure blob storage?
We have a third party vendor with our company that is asking a particularly weird question which honestly I don't know where he got this information, and I need some advice rather than just throwing a ticket at it which I don't think it requires one. We are trying to migrate a lot of our backups process from tape to Nimble environments or Storage Arrays, and some of the big backups that we're doing to the storage arrays are virtual snapshots of our VM environments from our VMware. This vendor, which is not affiliated with Commvault, is stating that Commvault capability of doing VM snapshots is technically not counting towards licenses within Commvault because it is capable of providing backups of its snapshots free of service within Commvault which doesn't count towards our license. Is this true? For me I was told from the get-go that anything that we back up with in the Commvault environment will have a charge per terabyte whether it be file level system backups, virtual snapshot
We have a customer who uses commvault mail archive system and when they try to use outlook addin they says it was be crush the outlook session , and when they try to download archived e mail thay took a certificate problems . Friends, Version 11.28.89 I need to update the hostname on a bunch of clients, so I try to do this via Set-CVClient as described here: https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/101881_set_cvclient.html But eventhough I receive errorCode 0, it seems that nothing is done. Can anyone tell me what is going wrong? Hello,Could you please assist me in finding a way to obtain the Endpoint binaries from the CV store? I've attempted several options, but the provided link isn't leading to any packages. I did create a package and received the download link, but each time I'm redirected to https://cloud.commvault.com/webconsole/applications/ . Where can I access the binaries I need? You can download the packages here:Client PackagesWindows:To install interactively, double-click Win32.exe or WinX64.exe.
Loved Ghostbusters. One of the best quips: Spangler: “I’m fuzzy on the good/bad thing. Define ‘bad’”Egon: “Imagine all life as you know it ending instantly as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light.” I’m looking to replace our Media Agents, one with a dedupe database that’s getting up in the 1.5 µs range. Looking at this (properties of our dedupe storage policy):… and the dedupe drive/path has ~2.2TB in it. For the “Back-end size for disk storage” on the “Hardware Specs for Dedupe Mode” (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/111985_hardware_specifications_for_deduplication_mode.html), I’m looking for the “Extra-large” with 2 x DDB… (1), as possibly referenced in the “Total Data Size on Disk...” or simply the “Extra small” (2) as shown here:My thoughts are #1 “up to 1000 TB” is the “total size on disk for all DBs” from the policy. I’d just like to be clear on that before crossing the streams.Thank you for your help ~
Hello Community, I recall encountering an article that explained how Commvault handles files during the 2nd copy process If files/chunks on primary storage infected/compromised by ransomwareit mentioned during aux copy, CV opens the each file including infected files, checks the header, and compares it with its own metadata reference. If the file has been modified or changed to the extent outside of cv process then CV skip files/chunk during the copy process and that prevent data on the 2nd storage overwritten by those compromised files . Unfortunately, I'm unable to locate the article now, and I would greatly appreciate confirmation on this matter. thanks
Hi Community,Microsoft is transitioning from Streams Classic to SharePoint Streams, with the end date set for February 15, 2024.We are in the process of migrating all videos and are exploring the possibility of backing up the content with Commvault before the migration. if that is possible ? thanks
We currently write to storage units on a Data Domain over BoostFS, but are considering migrating to the new Data Domain Boost Access Library method for tighter integration. I found this article and I’m wondering what the impact would be and if it’s even applicable to our situation considering we aren’t truly using CIFS.Converting a Data Domain Disk Library to a Data Domain Boost Access Library (commvault.com)Anyone have experience converting a library with existing data?
Hello Team. I have CV data protection configured for Exchange Online, OneDrive and Teams. It’s been running successfully for some time. The customer wants azure ‘global administrator’ account to be substituted in the CV configuration for a different account (with less capabilities). CV documentation states that after the initial configuration ‘global administrator’ can be substituted but it does not specify with what account (and type) it can be substituted with. Thanks!
Scenario:Local on prem copy - 60 day retentionAux copy to Azure - Long term retentionWe would like to set compliance and worm lock on the Azure copy. Questions:In prior feature releases, the suggestion we were given was to have multiple libraries/storage pools that would be rotated half way through the worm lock. Example: A 30 day retention/ 60 day worm lock, at day 31 you switch jobs to a different worm library for 30 days, rinse repeat. Is this still the case? Our Azure retention is up to 7 years. Would the best option be to have the first Aux land in a hot storage bucket that’s immutable for 30 days, and a 2nd aux written to a non immutable storage account utilizing DDB for the full retention period?

Hello! With the end of Windows 2012, we have some media agents that are being refreshed, both virtual and physical. In most cases we’ll be using the APP/workflow or the manual method to move them, but in a few cases we have some sites that during clean up and condensing that ended up with 2 media agents. Is there a way during the process of an OS refresh to combine two media agents? e.g. move the jobs and content so that everything is on one happy VM/box? As well, since this is the time to clean up some sins of the past, is there a way to combine Mount Points? E.g. previous admins decided to make 2-3 smaller Mount Points and I’d like to combine this into a single one. Can this be done with the Migration APP?Any help, suggestions or pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks!Devin
We’re looking if there is an additional settings that removes the possibility for non-masters to forcefully delete clients. To be clear: our customers still should be able to retire clients, but the next step delete clients should not be presented and should not be possible. The client objects who were given a retire command will be removed automatically once all jobs have been aged off. Is this possible? The security model only allows you to revoke the delete permission, but this also remove the retire option. So, this is not what I’m looking for in this case. PS: We already use the business logic workflows and we are not looking for a 4-eyes step here.
Hi Team, We have a question W.R.T data deletion in below scenario:Test case: We have a worm storage policy with data retention of 1 day 1 cycle. We have taken 2 full backup’s(1 cycle retention is completed), when the retention is completed shall my 1st backup be deleted? Will the second full backup taken be on storage forever or it will be pruned at some point.Test case 2: Scenario : We have a worm storage policy with data retention of 1 day 1 cycle. If we perform only 1 full backup and no further backups being taken, will data get pruned when retention is over or since the cycle of retention(2 full backups) criteria is not met will the data stay forever.
FS based Backup ends with a warning: Could not back up [0] folders and [1] files.the dumpbased backup goes fine.In de PostGresBackupChild.log I see :2309890 233f02 09/20 14:15:56 2109431 ClBackupFile::OpenFilesForBackup(7033) - failed to stat path '/data/postgres/13/wal/inst1/archive_status/000000060000000000000045.ready', errno=2, error=No such file or directory There are no *.ready files in that dir or elsewhere. Every time I try the backup again I will see a similar message, but with an other filename. The number goes up.Any idea on how to troubleshoot this?
