Hello, is there any official article in the CV documentation, which would clearly state, that the VM does not need to be protected by the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) to consume a VOI license. As long as the File System Agent is installed and the VM is detected, any in-guest agent backups (e.g., SQL, Oracle, Exchange, AD) will be covered under the VOI license. Arlie gives me the link and says that here this is written explicitely:https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/others/pdf/commvault-complete-license-guide.pdfBut I get error 404 when trying to open it. Best regards, Aleksandra
Hi,We accidentally added fields to the Access Node configuration for SharePoint Online and can no longer remove them. In our case, specifically the field: “shared job results path.”Does anyone know of a way we can remove this field?

Hi,we are currently facing the following situation:We write data on a NAS system via NFS, e.g. on “folder A”. Then we want to create a symlink to this folder, called “folder B”.“Folder B” is then presented via CIFS/SMB to our Windows Media Agents. Will the backup work and backup all the data or will it only see the symlink and just backup the symlink-file?I know that we can just share “folder B” via CIFS, but my colleagues want to do it with the symlink if possible. Any clues or ideas if that would work? BRJan

Hello Team, In the production devops, we do have history of Pull Request, but when we restore out of place, we loose all the historyWe do have thee same behaviour for the pipeline history, all is empty but after restore there is no history any idea ? is it a bug ? or limitation ?
Hi,I’m trying to back up virtual machines in my OpenShift Virtualization cluster. I’ve already deployed the Access Node within the cluster, and in the Commvault console, I can see the namespaces and pods listed as applications. However, the VMs are not being discovered by the Commvault server. This setup is running in a lab environment, and I’d like to understand why the VMs are not appearing. Could this be due to a misconfiguration, a licensing requirement, or another limitation that prevents Commvault from backing up OpenShift virtual machines?
Imagine asking an AI assistant, “Back up my Docusign documents” — and watching it just happen, securely, with full audit trails and policy enforcement. That’s the promise of Conversational Resilience, a new capability in the Commvault Cloud platform announced at SHIFT that lets you manage and protect enterprise data through simple, natural-language interactions with AI assistants like ChatGPT Enterprise or Claude by Anthropic - all governed by Commvault’s MCP server.Whether you’re a database admin, app owner, or part of a DevOps team, you will be able to perform resilience operations directly in your AI workspace — while your data protection teams maintain centralized governance and compliance in Commvault Cloud. What’s Powering It: The MCP Server Behind the scenes is the Commvault Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server — the secure middleware that connects AI assistants to Commvault Cloud APIs. Every conversational command — from “recover last night’s backup” to “create a new protection
I know I can’t be the only one that faces this problem and I’d like to know how other folks handle it.Requests for application backups can be fairly simple. Backup this server, <drives, paths, server> using <agent type>. Following <RPO/RTO policy>….Etc, Etc.But some backups can get a little to a lot more complicated, especially in high security environments. Some applications have very specific documentation about how to back them up, and more specifically, how vendors will support restoration issues if their procedures aren’t followed. This can be especially problematic in clustered or multi server environments. For example, I have an application I back up that runs a main application server and 4 back-end servers that run various functions.I asked the application owner if they should be backed up as a consistency group? He had no idea what I was was talking about, but worse thought it was my responsibility to figure it out, without his input. There is only 1 me (
Hello Commvault community,I would like some clarification about the traffic flow for auxiliary copy jobs in a Commvault environment integrated with HPE StoreOnce appliances.Scenario: At our primary site, have a StoreOnce appliance used for backup storage. At the DR site, there is a second StoreOnce appliance intended for auxiliary (Copy-2) backups. Specific Question:In our case, I am unsure about the exact data path during the auxiliary copy operation. Does the backup traffic for the auxiliary (Copy-2) copy flow: Directly from StoreOnce at the primary site to StoreOnce at the DR site? or From the primary site's MediaAgent to the primary StoreOnce, then to the DR site's MediaAgent, and finally to the DR StoreOnce? I want to make sure I understand whether the transfer between StoreOnce appliances can leverage Catalyst Copy directly (StoreOnce-to-StoreOnce) or if MediaAgents at both sites are always involved in the path. My main goal is to optimize efficiency and minimize WAN usage fo

Hello all,Hope you can help me with this quick question:Will CIS Hardened scripts on Commvault store work for Windows 2019 and/or 2022?I am referring to this: https://cloud.commvault.com/webconsole/softwarestore/store.do#!/96/635/20763 Thanks in advance for the answer!Sergio.
Just curious. What is the policy where you work when it comes to applying hotfixes? Do you treat hotfixes differently than release version upgrades?I’m asking because my predecessors would apply hotfixes (if they addressed a specific issue) without really telling anyone other than maybe an immediate supervisor and an email to the engineering team (and maybe the NOC I’m not sure on that one). They'd take a DR backup, SNAP the Commserver VM and let it fly and roll it back if there was a problem.I’m more of a formal process kinda guy. I assume most of you will tell me, “what’s the problem? Just follow a formal process.”, but I there will be people in my organization that will push back because of the successes of the past. I lack the real experiences that come with issues related to applying hotfixes (if any). Anyone have any experiences they can share? How do you folks treat hotfixes?
Is there anyone configured the Splunk backup using commvault. i need step by step configuration guidance required or any document which will me for configuration. on CommVault document is not fully helpful for configuration. i am at 11.28 version.

Hi, We have some Commvault supplied ova’s that are deployed in our environment running Oracle Linux. Recently there has been a CVE for VMware Tools and we were looking at ways to update that on these boxes. They don’t seem to be locked down like an appliance. Has anyone else had experience in updating VMware Tools on these? Thanks
Hello, I am attempting to perform an in-place upgrade of my CommServe in a dark site environment, which includes upgrading the SQL.I am facing a critical problem, and standard procedures have failed. Problem 1: Pre-Upgrade Validation Failure When I run the Setup.exe from my downloaded installation package, the Pre-Upgrade Validation check fails with this error:Automatic upgrade of the existing SQL Server instance is allowed but SQL Standard media is not available in the source media.Context: I downloaded the full installation package from the Commvault Cloud Services portal onto an internet-facing machine. I ensured to include all Third-Party Software (Microsoft SQL Server Standard). I have manually verified that the SQL media is physically present in my source package (in the ...\ThirdParty\MSSQL\SQL_Standard_Edition directory). My CommServe is a "dark site" and has no internet connectivity. Problem 2: Software Cache Corruption (The Root Cause) I suspect the validation is faili
Why suddenly the files and folders inside the installation directory of my onprem backup gateway server lost. Even when reboot it nothings bring backup. Does it is a known issue that something needs to be done to become persistent when deploying the OVA?
Dears,,I have tow large VMs > 14 TB . it will take many days to full or incremental backup . what are the best configuration to implement this VMs .I have ocean protect Huawei storage. I don't create VSA for this Vcenter .
Hello Commvault Community, I’m working on reporting the total backup storage footprint of a single VM protected in a (deduplicated) HyperScale X environment.Using the Chargeback Details report, I noticed two relevant columns:https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/software/data_views_for_chargeback_details.html Media Size: The amount of data that was saved on storage media during the specified time period, including aged and pruned data. For storage policy copies that have deduplication enabled, the media size for each job is calculated based on the average deduplication ratio of the copy. Where media size = application size * average deduplication ratio per copy. The average deduplication ratio of a destination copy is calculated by (total size on disk)/(total protected app size) for the destination copy. Total Media Size: The amount of all active data that is saved on storage media, including all storage policy copies on all media types, and excluding aged data. For storage polic
HI All, i just want to know the process how the data get reconstructed on the disk after the replacement. I’m aware the hyperscale uses Erasure coding in back end but not sure if we have any document defining the process.
I am getting this error when running a backup job for 2 servers. Has anyone seen this before? I have other servers that can backup successfully on this Commserver. Thanks!
Hi,Is it possible to use linux for intellisnap proxy server or should I use only windows for the proxy as the document said? Thanks
Hello, I’m curious how others are doing this or what Commvault recommends. For our Windows-based mediaagents, the DDB disk is actually 4 SSDs that are plugged into a Dell PERC, specifically an H740P, and then in the Dell hardware management, iDRAC, we configured a single SCSI disk out of RAID-5 for those SSDs, and so that’s what Windows actually sees. I was just wondering if Commvault has any opinions on setting up the DDB on SSDs when going through a hardware-level obfuscation like this, or whether Commvault believes that there would be a noticeable change or improvement to performance, if the SSDs were natively exposed to the OS and managed that way.
Hello Commvault community! We are designing a backup strategy for two AVS sites, using SRM for replication and failover. We see two main approaches: Maintaining separate backup schedules and MediaAgents at each site, then manually switching backup jobs after failover and failback. This ensures data integrity and backup continuity but requires manual or scripted coordination. Replicating MediaAgents and backup disks via SRM to the DR site. This seems straightforward but Im not sure if it’s recommended by Commvault (because SRM’s block-level replication can cause metadata and deduplication mismatches, leading to backup failures or full resyncs). Since SRM is already deployed and Commvault Auto Recovery is not an option, we lean toward the second approach. Are there other recommended practices or automation strategies for managing backup continuity in AVS + SRM environments? Thanks!Nikos
