Hello, we would like to reconstruct our environment. In addition to the current environment, we plan to build it with new VM's (CommServe, WebServer (Commandcenter) in parallel. Since we currently have only one license in the current environment, the question would be whether we can simply transfer this to the new VM and with the help of a DR backup also all previously made settings ?We need to replace the VM because the operating system is too old.Kind RegardsThomas
Hi, The new Ubuntu 22.04 installations no longer allow older algorithms (also forcing a Putty update) for sshd. When I attempt to push a Commvault installation on the client the auth.log of the client reports this:Oct 19 16:25:19 clientname sshd[1325]: Unable to negotiate with ip-of-comcell port 49045: no matching host key type found. Their offer: ssh-ed25519,ecdsa-sha2-nistp256,ecdsa-sha2-nistp384,ecdsa-sha2-nistp521,ssh-rsa,ssh-dss [preauth] We are running 11.28.24 so very up-to-date, is there an update coming or can I update those components myself ? Thanks, Remco Gerards
I’m a long time CommVault client and the java GUI is my primary method of administering my CommVault backups. I’ve been asked to enable multifactor authenntication using the Microsoft Authenticator app on my phone. I managed to get this to work for the Command Center browser based interface but when I try the java GUI, it just says “Two-Factor Authentication is enabled on this CommServe. Please check your email for details to log on.”The problem is that I’m using an administrator account that doesn’t have an actual email inbox so there’s no way for me to get the email. Is there a way to get the java GUI to behave like the Command Center and prompt for a Username, Password, and Authenticator code?Ken
Hello,How to add new client (linux, windows) via Commserve console and install i Data agent on them?Is there any procedure for this?Best regards,Elizabeta
Dear all,for statistical reasons I am looking for an effective way to compare the performance indicators of a given job with the other executions of the same one at previous schedule times. For “performance indicators” I mean mainly execution duration and average throughput. Is there any way to do that using Commvault tools? With a little bit of shame, I currently export the job history in Excel and post process it 😊 Thank youGaetano
Hi,We are trying to install Commvault VSA agent to a VM from Azure public.(Manually from the VM side and not pushing from the commserve) We are getting following error… We checked remote registry services and firewall ports, 135,139,445,8400,8402,8403. all are opened from existing firewall. Kindly help us figuring out this issue.
There’s another very lengthy post on building LiveSync with floating names where the suggestion was “don’t do it”, then branched into more complex things like separating webservices from the CS, etc. It’s closed for replies now though. So, we have 3 CommCells all doing LiveSync but no floating names for the CS. We’re needing to refresh many of these servers so my thought would be to implement the floating CS name since it’s overdue, but I’m a bit puzzled since most documentation seems to speak to setting this up “at install” time, not post, many years after the fact. Is https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/104936_setting_up_failovers_using_floating_commserve_name.html relevant for refreshes and such?Ideally sure I’d like to split the webservers out from the CS’s per best practices but given the amount of potential change here (new CS’s both primary and standbys), new locations on network (new IPs), new OS’s, etc., where’s the logical place to begin - move things via refresh
Curious as the documentation around enabling or requiring passkeys for restores seems to all be for MSP, multi-company CommCells. But the Security Assessment report “recommends” enabling this and apparently doesn’t distinguish. So I thought “self, let’s do this” which turns into a series of rabbit holes: Can’t just require Passkey for restores, it says “ Operation failed. Admin has not allowed users to set passkey.” I didn’t really want to make this overly complex but this appears to be by design. Conceptually I think the workflow requiring authorization to do a restore makes more sense, masters get to bypass this authorization requirement though if reading it correctly.
Hi, I’m struggling to understand the managed disk space feature. As I understand it will keep data on disk longer than retention requirements if there’s enough space on the disk library. But does that go for all storage policies? For our normal storage policies using deduplication then the managed disk space is not active in the retention tab. And it’s not possible to activate. So does that mean that all jobs in this storage policy is not affected by the managed disk space feature? Or will jobs still be affected? Meaning that we might have old backup images on disk that actually should have been pruned?Ideally I would like to ditch this feature to be fully in control of what is on disk as I don’t like the idea of having some data on disk underneath the hood or so to say. But as I understand it’s not possible to disable the feature as that’s how the data aging process works. But as much as possible I would like to limit the amount of extra backup images lingering around.Currently we star
Hi Team, When we have multiple libraries associated with a GDP, then how can we identify which library is holding the ‘pending delete records’ and ‘Data size to be freed’. Thanks,Harshavardhan.
Hi all! From time to time one (randomly) of our six VSAs stop during backup and is marked as “Invalid” in VMWare. Here is the error on VMWare side : And the result is that I have to remove the VSA from Inventory then add it again so I can detach .vmdk from other VMs before I can restart the VSA : Any idea about what could be the cause?
Hi, I came into work and noticed dozens of jobs in a waiting state due to the mount path not having enough free space. I am aware that we need to add more storage and we are going to, but in the interim I tried lowering the reserve space from 6TB to 2TB.so that the jobs can finish, and I also see what can be cleared. It’s not letting me change it. It will only go to 5960 GB. I currently have a ticket in with CV. 221017-401. Is there a way to fix this?
Will Commvault agent identify any filesystem corruption, when it tries to backup a unix filesystem or just ignore it and move to next filesystem ?
The web console was created to solve a number of issues imposed by the Java console. It also slots right into the paradigm of web and rest api communication. That said the early console was… bad… like really bad.But over the years it has gotten better and it keeps getting better. So my suggestion for people who are new to commvault is to use the webconsole as it is intended to replace the java gui, the Java GUI has to drag along the all the cruft from the inception of the product, making it so that some things don’t even make any logical sense as presented in the Java GUI, also many new features simply do not get back ported to the java GUI. At one point, the Webconsole was a poor substitute for the Java GUI, but I would strongly suggest that you foster the habit of using the web console. There will always be the graybeards that stick to the old ways, and while there are definite benefits to doing but there are also downsides, the graybeards are often not aware of the new functionality b

I have a job running AppAware backups for a SQL server that supports one of our applications. The server admin team asked me to backup two additional servers for the application at the same time as the SQL server. I tried adding them to the existing job but I get an error because SQL is not installed on the two new servers. The message says “App aware backup is skipped for Virtual machine, VM backup completed successfully”. So the servers are being backed up (I believe) but the error message is causing our operations team some heartburn. I thought there was an additional setting that could be added to ignore the AppAware error and suppress the message from the Backup Summary report. Does anything like that exist? Running 11.26.36. Thank you!
What report can I run show deconfigured SQL agents from the java console ?

Hi Guys,I’ m trying to use Bare Metal Recovery. When we open the Desktop with a 1-Touch iso, it stays in the "Installing software onto the RAM drive" stage. Although we tried several times on 2 different Desktops, it remains at the same stage. We waited about 24 hours. Any chance of seeing the log files, or any idea?
Hello All, We have a custom need of performing frequent backup for every 10 mins once to secure some critical information . The jobs are setup and running , but only one job runs per subclient hence only 1 active jobs but a lot of queued jobs in the queue. Is there a way to handle this or suggestions to overcome the queued jobs ? Commvault version used is V11.24.60 , where backup are store on HPE apollo Hyperscale X ref architecture.
how to do a commvault migration from VCF3 to VCF4 ?
I want to grant two staff from the internal security at my employer access to see the “Unusual file activity” information (under “Monitoring” within the Command Center) and have added them with the “View All” privilege. They can access the page but don’t see any information there. The should see: But they actually see: Is there a way to grant them view access without granting total root / superuser / god-like access?Ken
