We are currently using Commvault v10, and we have data stored on tape that we need to restore directly to a Synology NAS Unit system, which is mapped to the media server. This is necessary because there isn't enough space on the media server itself. However, when I select the media agent for the restore destination, the network locations are not showing up. Additionally, since it's a NAS unit, we are unable to install the Commvault agent on it.
Hi all,Our Commvault M365 backup INDEX, (with content indexing (v2) enabled), is driving the INDEX Server’s single disk drive close to 10 TB! Commvault’s guideline shows “Large” at 10 TB index disk and doesn’t list a higher tier.https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/commcell-console/hardware_recommendations_for_index_server.htmlWhat’s the recommended practice beyond this — expand the SSD volume (scale up) or add index server nodes and redistribute with load balancing (scale out)?Is there any limit for a single INDEX (V2 with content indexing enabled) and what are best practices? Thanks for any real‑world experiences!Nikos
hi,For any of you still using tape on Linux MA’s, I was wondering if there’s a way to force the Expert Storage Configuration to use the alias (friendly names) created by udev rules for those devices and the changer?Setting up udev rules isn’t that hard and I know RH says that WWNN’s used “by-id” are automagic, but the names are never human intuitive. Plus we’ve seen some issues whereby rebooting the MA is a crapshoot that means sometimes the drives all work and mount media fine, and sometimes it’s no dice. I could never see the changes noted in the events and so created udev rules to try and keep things consistent, but the field can’t be edited in expert storage config under any circumstances, it just finds the ../scsi-blah devices and not any of the aliases.
The Security Assessment > Platform security page identifies a critical issue with the “File Activity Anomaly alert” not being enabled. Unfortunately, when I go into the Java GUI Console > Alerts > Configure Alerts, “File Activity Anomaly alert” doesn’t appear as one of the options. I’ve searched the documentation but don’t see any steps on how to load this alert. Does anyone know how to load a missing alert? (The File Activity Anomaly alert specifically.)Thanks in advance for any help.Ken
Hi everyone,I have several commcells. On one of them there are “No data available” on the Comcells, Agents, and Client Groups tiles. All other tiles seems ok. Anybody know why and how to fix it?Also, on my other comcells there seem to be no data from january to july for the same three tiles. I guess there is no way to generate the missing data again, but do anybody know if it is a known bug? RegardsGunnar
Hello All,I hope this email finds you well.I'm currently working on a data restoration task and have a specific question regarding Commvault's capabilities in a cross-platform scenario. We have a backup created from a standard Windows filesystem (e.g., using a Windows File System Agent). Our target for this restoration is a Dell PowerScale (Isilon) system, specifically into an NDMP share/volume.My primary question is whether Commvault supports the direct restoration of a backup taken from a standard Windows filesystem to an NDMP target on a Dell PowerScale appliance. If this functionality is indeed supported, could you please provide us with the relevant documentation, and ideally, a high-level overview of the steps involved in performing such a cross-platform restore? Regards,Robert
Hi Team, We are getting the below error very frequently while running aux jobs. It tells that all device streams exhausted and job will be in pending state until streams become available. Please advise me how to allocate devices streams to avoid this issue. I have increased Parallel data transfer streams on the Media agent level and Device streams on the Storage policy settings- it does not seems to be helping. Please advise me how to define stream values and what are the things we should consider when increasing or decreasing the streams. How it works?
Hi,Does anyone have a documentation of sql backup using intellisnap? I need to use with proxy servershould I configure the storage array that we are using? should I create a user when I configure the SQL subclient using intellisnap? Thanks
Hi Team,After upgrading to Commvault Platform Release 11.40.13, we observed an issue in the Backup Job Summary Report. The report now shows an additional status – “Completed without Backup.”On review, most of the jobs under this status belong to SQL servers with databases configured in Simple Recovery Model, where TLOG backups are skipped. Although the jobs complete successfully, they are being flagged under this new status, which is impacting the SLA completion percentage in reporting. We would like your guidance on the best approach to handle this: Exclude “Completed without Backup” jobs from the Backup Job Summary report so they don’t affect SLA metrics. Alternatively, create separate schedules for databases configured with Simple Recovery Model (without TLOG backups). Kindly suggest which approach would be recommended or if there is a Commvault-supported configuration change to address this reporting issue.
Hello guys!we have 5 XL Linux Media agents, and all of them have 2 DDB Partitions in the size of 5.9 TB. both of the DDB partitions are configured in RAID 1 when trying to configure storage pool from these media agents, we only can configure up to 6 DDB Partitons, and we need all 10 partitions to be available within the storage pool is there any chance of it?
Is there a clear process to migrate from an Index Server Cloud to an Index Server? We have a two-node Index Server Cloud for Exchange Mailbox and its associated HAC Cluster that are due for a Hardware Refresh. Given that Index Server Cloud is deprecated we will need to look at migrating in the near term.
Hi,we backup our TEAMS chats. But under “Users” nothing is backuped. Is it possible to backup the user TEAMS chats?RegardsDennis

Im running thru the process on how to rebuild the Web Server shown in the link belowhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.42/commcell-console/web_server_hardware_refresh_setting_up_new_web_server.htmlThe process looks straight-forward except step 9################################################To restore MongoDB database on the Web Server:a.Copy the latest MongoDB backup file. To retrive backup files, see Retrieval of Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups From Storage.b.Run the Mongo recovery assistant tool.############################################Questions I have1. How do we get a backup of the MongoDB, it says here retrieve from DR Backup? The one in the DR backup are SQL DB files and not MongoDB?2. Is my understanding correct that this also applies to DR backup from the Commserve for a setup where the Web Server/Command center is in a separate server from the Commserver?3. It says run the Mongo Recovery assistant tool and then point the path to where the DR backup is? Also applies to
Planning to rebuild 3 web servers which are tiered. The Metrics reporting is setup to use Tiered Metrics reporting. Creating a CA-Signed Certificate for the Tomcat Server Is there any way I can avoid re-doing the creation of certs etc. Possibly saving a copy of critical files for tiered metrics reporting and copying it to the newly refresh Metrics reporting/web server Any advice is appreciated
hello everybody :)I’m deploying a new infrastructure with on prem Commserve and physical media agents, the customer wants to separate the backup data trafic to an isolated network.I configured the new interfaces for this vlan on each media agent and on the vmware hosts, i can ping everything on this dedicated network.I’m struggle to find how to configure Commvault to use this network for backups with data pair.Obviously I dont see the vmware host on the console, only the vcenter which the server used to initiate backups. So no hosts appears on the network pair wizard. Any recommendation? Do I need to add all hosts on the server list ?
Good Day,in July was announced from Commvault and Platform 9 that there is Partnership and native implementation will happen, see here Solution brief from Commvault:https://www.commvault.com/resources/solution-brief/commvault-cloud-for-platform9-private-cloud-directorI cant find any further information, regarding when it will we implemented in which version or any Timeline or something else.Any information which can be shared right now? Thx & BRMarcel
We are currently using Commvault v10 with Dell ML3 tape libraries. Initially, we encountered a media mount error on the library. After replacing the drives, we began receiving the following error intermittently on a few of the tape libraries. Once the drives were cleaned, backups resumed successfully. However, with one particular tape library, the issue persists even after replacing the drives.Note: During backup, the job runs for a few GB and failing with an error. Error Code: [40:73]Description: Error occurred in Library [Vxxxx], Drive Name [IBM ULT3580-HH7_2], Barcode [S77370L7], Path [\\.\Tape1] [Drive did not respond to commands properly. There may be too many drives on the SCSI Bus operating at the same time. Try reducing the number of drives on the SCSI Bus. Try reducing the synchronous transfer rate on the SCSI Controller. Or two controlling programs may be accessing the library concurrently. For more details, please check to see a corresponding Op
Hello,I am trying to recover a backup of a client VSA virtual machine from a secondary copy that was copied to tape approximately 5 years ago.The index version of the VSA client is V1 (I plan to migrate this VSA client to V2 next month. It’s the last client I have left to migrate). The Commvault version is 11.36.24The restoration I am performing is for the entire virtual machine. When attempting to restore, I get the following error message: "The medium is already reserved by some other job. We rarely perform tape recoveries, and what surprised me while researching is that this type of error seems usually appears in multi-stream database recoveries, but there’s no mention of VSA clients. You can see information here:https://kb.commvault.com/article/53924https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/combining_source_data_streams.htmlBefore open the case (#241023-299), I tested different restorations. Also checked that no other job is using this media. We even restarted the library and the med
Question: I'm trying to add Salesforce to Commvault version 11.40.14.Currently, I'm facing an issue where I don't know what to enter in the "Database Host" field.Given that everything in Salesforce, including the database, is SaaS-based, there’s no specific IP address or hostname to provide.
Hi all,My customer is currently using S3 Glacier Deep Archive with Combined Tier: S3 Standard-Infrequent Access. So far, so good. However, they would like to use S3 Cross Region Replication, which does not replicate data written to the Deep Archive tier. So we are looking for an alternative solution. One alternative solution would be to use S3 Intelligent-Tiering (the Combined Tier is not available then). We believe that would allow the objects to be replicated before they are moved to the Deep Archive Tier. But I am unable to find a clear description on how that actually works with Commvault. Is all data indeed initially written to the “warm” tier? Will it allow the data to be replicated by CRR? Who determines which data can be moved to the Deep Archive Tier? Is that Amazon or Commvault? If it’s Amazon that determines which data can be moved to the Archive Tier, how do we ensure metadata and indexes are kept in the warm tier, even if they are not accessed for a while? Hope somebody can e
Hi Community,I’m working with Commvault v11.36.68 (on-prem) and need to generate a report—either through the CommCell Console or Command Center—that shows details for a specific storage policy.Specifically, I’d like to export: All schedules running under that storage policy The retention period associated with each schedule The goal is to understand what backups will run in a given week of the month and what their corresponding retention periods will be.I’ve been unable to find a built-in report or option that provides this information. Has anyone done this before, or is there a way to build such a report? Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Hello,I have a storage policy with an AuxCopy ( synchronous ) configured with the bewlo retention rules:7 days 1 CycleWeekly full - 30 DaysMonthly full - 90 Days I’m planning to create a another copy that will point to another data path to hold only the short-term retention ( 7 days 1cycle ), and to reconfigure the existing one to hold only the Weekly + Monthly full keeping the same retention days for those. How should I re-configure the exsiting copy? Just remove the short retention rules ( 0 days 0 cycles ) and leave the extended retention rules for the weekly + monthly fulls as is ? Leave it as synchronous copy or change it to selective ?Thanks

Hello,I have a question regarding Intellisnap. Works well if I enable it here I have some PosgreSQL VMs hosted on VMware VXrailOn the VMs there is the PosgreSQL agent installed.I tried to enable intellisnap but it failsDBA team performs refresh environnements using the command center assistant and select the destination server. to improve restoration process, is it possible to use intellisnap on the posgreSQL agent to perform snapshots on the source VM and use these snapshots to perform the refresh on the destination ?I read the Commvault documentations and in my understanding, we can do that only with Hardware snap engine isn’t it ?Thanks
