I’m running 11.22.19 and have our CS and MA in UK on local time zone (GMT/BST) and a VSA proxy VM in New York on its local time zone (EST). Our backup plan’s schedules have “client time zone” set. However, the New York VM backups are starting at the same time as the UK, not what I’m expecting. The VSA proxy also has a file system backup configured and that runs at the expected local time.Which part of the chain is dictating the time zone for the proxy client? There is, on the properties sheet, an override time zone option which shows “time zone: not available”. I will try setting this to the New York time zone, however the time zone should really be picked up from the VSA proxy and this setting used to override that if required.
Hi there,I would like to discuss the following situation:I want to disable backup activity on the client, however I want to keep aging of associate data as usual. Is there any workaround for it? It is possible to release lincence and deconfigure client, then data aging goes well... However, my question is:It is possible to keep data aging on the client that is only disabled from the backup activity? Thanks for your responses!
hey all!I have a support group that by mistake was not marked as ‘Laptops admin’ and now they are owners of lot’s of laptops.how can I remove them from all laptops?any script for this? many thanks! Yirmi
During the backup I have issue: /opt/PostgreSQL/8.3/bin/pg_dump: unrecognized option `--lock-wait-timeout=60000'Commvault 11.20.46Postgres SQL 8.3 I know that the new version of Comvault no longer supports this version of the databases I have a question, is it possible to modify the pg_dump command in Commvault? (to omit an unrecognizable option) Alternatively, how can the following problem?
Hello guys. I’m looking for some advice/tips on how best to configure additional selective copies in a storage policy and ensure they are deduplicated to avoid rewriting the same blocks on cloud storage. The Primary Copy is deduped and goes to Library 1. I want Weekly and Monthly copies to go on Library 2 and 3 respectively with each copy disabled. I noticed I can’t use the Global Deduplication Policy being used by the Primary Copy on the additional copies. Anyone has some thoughts on how to tackle this? I’m not a fan of using Extended Retention on the Primary Copy as and set Weekly and Monthly retention on one media/point of failure.
We have both Azure and Hyper-V VMs. The majority are backed up by the VSA agent in the Hypervisor, and have no installed agents. However some have Windows File System, SQL Agent or Virtual Server agents installed. For all those last, if I look at the client Properties there is a row that shows:Client PropertiesFor any VM with no agents, that row just is not there. I never found a VM where it says ‘Virtual’. I should say that for a real physical server (which of course has to have an agent) it looks just like the above also. What worries me most about this is that this may consume Operating Instance licences. We have Commvault Complete and I can see we are using all our OI licences but a fraction of our Virtual OI licences. But for example when we added a SQL*Server Availability Group across a pair of virtual SQL*Servers, we had to find an OI licence for it.Is there are report that goes per-client and tells us exactly what licences it is relying on? Is it right that our VMs show as
What’s the best practices for determining the number of proxies needed for both ESX and AHV? Is it as simple as adding one proxy per ESX host or VCenter cluster? Or is it more about adding proxies based on the protected FET? I’m trying to develop a scale-out strategy so that we can easily predict what our proxy count will need to be as the environment grows, but I’m having difficulty finding a general rule for this.

Question: is it possible to add another error code on the same report, for example we send out reports for error id 6:64 but I would also like to include the error code 19:857 on the same report.
hello, I am trying to install a test commserve I have this error messageI verified the installer and it is the same that I use to install media agents, client etc …Do you know what could be the issue ?
Hi!For time-saving purposes I decided to restore Oracle RMAN backupsets to disk using this documetation link: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=20540.htmWhen I try to restore from it I got ORA-27048:RMAN> restore controlfile from '/u02/app/oracle/backup/1165136/794747_PBS_r0u1qblp_1_1';Starting restore at 07-05-2021 13:44:34using channel ORA_DISK_1channel ORA_DISK_1: restoring control fileRMAN-00571: ===========================================================RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============RMAN-00571: ===========================================================RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 05/07/2021 13:44:36ORA-19870: error while restoring backup piece /u02/app/oracle/backup/1165136/794747_PBS_r0u1qblp_1_1ORA-19505: failed to identify file "/u02/app/oracle/backup/1165136/794747_PBS_r0u1qblp_1_1"ORA-27048: skgfifi: file header information is invalidAdditional information: 2Backup was made from Oracle Linux x
And this is commvault support...premier support contract, 1 hour response time for critical tickets.Ticket opened at 10:25AM: Then it’s 11:25AM UTC, and ...tada…they just change the time , without contacting customer: occur on or by Apr 22, 2021 2:36 PM (UTC)Then it’s 11h38, and ...tada...another hour added.. Seems Commvault has flexible hours on their clocks.
we have a potential customer who use a snapshot backup product to take 15 minutes backup; it is a sector based product which has a filter driver installed on the sevrer; withCommvault file system agent we only do backups once a day; is it possible to use the file agent to do a 15 minute backup; any potential issues. Or should we be using the snapshot backup(VSS; disk sectors) rather than the traditional file system Commvault backups where it reads all the files
Installing HyperScale (HS) with Secondary CS. My primary Index and DB located on separate drive letter (Ex: D:\ & E:\), but sec. CS on HS built with only C drive . CS LiveSync recommends that index & db location on pri and sec must be same. So how I can get an additional drives on sec. CS vm hosted on HS?
So in an effort to clean up our environment, we are trying to get our sla pushed to %97 and above. One of the issues is the clients that are part of the Exchange dag have no scheduled backups. My concern is that if I start backing up these clients, that they would be backing up the dags which is being backed up by our exchange backups that we are doing. Is the software smart enough to notice that the exchange client is part of an exchange cluster, and will not backup the dags which the exchange job is doing, or would i be double backing up dags if i started backing up the nodes as well?
Hi guys,This might seem stupid but I’m a bit confused by these two documents on the Commvault website that talk about deduplicating policy copies. If I’m getting the below articles correctly, the difference between; Creating a Storage Policy Copy with Deduplication https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=12446.htmand Creating a Deduplication Enabled Policy Copy https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=14132.htmis that the former is created using a Storage Pool (dedup engine exists) whilst for the latter the Deduplication location is not an existing dedup engine (storage pool) but just a local folder on the media agent? If the latter is correct and I want to use it to deduplicate additional independent copies e.g. Weekly Fulls and Monthly Fulls on independent libraries against the Primary Copy data, is there a downside to it?Need some assistance on this.
Hi There.I have a customer that wants ALL communication within Commvault Components to be secured.I know that the WebConsole and the WebServer can be forced to use HTTPS but in that particular Mail Archiving Project we have an Index Server. As per BoL the Web Servers must reach the Index server on port 20000 (default) in HTTP. Customer is requesting this to also be a secured connection (HTTPS). Any Clues? In addition to the above, he is requesting directionality of Firewall ports. they do not want to open bi-directional if it is not required so what is the direction that need to be enabled on FW for:WebConsole and WebServer Users and WebConsole (HTTPS 443) WebConsole and CommServe WebServer and CommServe WebServer and Index Server CommServe/Media Agents to ClientsIf someone has any document/link or clues on the above it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and regardsAbdellatif
Hello,My client change the hostname and ip of vcenter. How should i do to change in commvault, without losing data from backups and need to do a restore?that is, can I make this change without any problems?https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=36289.htm
Hello,I have old Tape library TS3200 with LTO4 tapes and new Tape library HPE with LTO7 tapes. I would like to copy data from LTO4 to LTO7 tapes.I worked according documentation Media Refresh (commvault.com) .I have Enabled Media Refresh on Storage policy copy, media for Refresh I have marked Full, and Pick for Refresh. I have run Media Refresh job and choose tab Start new media…No, I have error “There are not enough drives in the drive pool. This could be due to drive limit set on master pool if this failure is for magnetic library.”I don’t know where the problem is?Is there anything else to do for Media refresh operation?Best regards,Elizabeta
Hi All,I have somewhat discussed this topic in the below post that has not clearly answered / resolved my issue.https://community.commvault.com/technical-q-a-2/stubb-recall-not-working-183 When disabling SEP completely the recalls work successfully.By configuring and adding all process and folders to the AV exclusion list does not resolve the problem. The only method that allows for stub recalls to work successfully is by configuring the AV On-Access scanner to not scan for Read operations in the folder where the stub is located. Can someone please assist in clarifying exactly what processes are involved with the recall of files? I can see cvd.exe, cvods.exe and clmgrs.exe popping up from a Commvault point of view. Could there be any native Windows process involved in this process that might have a read operation during the recall process? Maybe the the filter drivers that need to be added to the exclusions as well? I have added several processes to the cvmhsm registry key as ExcludedP

I also see same issue in my environment frequently where backups on multiple servers hang randomly. And then we see commands like ‘tasklist” timing out on the client which confirms WMI is not responding. We have to reboot every week or so to fix.Does anyone know why WMI hangs? Unfortunately we don’t have Microsoft support so have not been able to take up this issue with them.
Hi,We just updated our environment to 11.23.3 and now the reports scheduled in the adminconsole fail.If we look in the folder we see all reports ending <report_name>.pdf.hdr or <report_name>.html.hdr and they are all 0kb If we run reports from the Console GUi reports are generated fine.We are still investigating, we think connection issue on port 80, but does some knows where the extention .hdr comes from?krDanny
