Hello,I do notice that when I remove my shared folder from CV Console, on my computer its still visible but empty. Is there any cache that we should erase or its some bug on it.

Hi everyone, At the moment I have 2 seperate CommCells where file servers exist that are heavily archived (10+ TB). The customers want to migrate to new file servers so they want to restore all stubs on the new servers. This is however not working.We cannot get the files to restore as stubs on either a different destination server or on the same server even though they are stubbed on the current file servers.We used the following documentation: Migrating StubsWe have not used Robocopy or the GXHSM tool as they are not recommended according to documentation. Our experience with the GXHSM tool is also that it is not always stable.We tested this on our test environment and were able to restore the files as stubs. What was noticeable is that all files in a browse screen show as stub while in the customer en

this is a wired issue wherein the guest file and folder recovery of VMs from tape is causing the backups to go in a pending state. Case is with Commvault supportthis is the second instance of a different customer

Anyone know if this will work and be supported?It’s not listed as a supported platform for Intellisnap in the 11.22 documentation at https://documentation.commvault.com/11.22/essential/106164_supported_arrays_and_agents.html but does get a mention as generically supported for NDMP.Thank You

I tried out the exception rule in Schedules for the first time, on an Intellisnap backup.I created a Policy with IntelliSnap Full, SQL Integrity check and backup copy job first SUN of month.Then I created one with Intellisnap Full Mon-Sun with exception on first sunday.When I looked it seems that the schedule didn't run at all on the first sunday.The exception was applied only once to the one MON-SUN. The exception should only be for that schedule I guess?Or did I get this backwards. //Henke  

(split from a previous thread)Thanks Mike I figured not possible as needing to chop that chain (first inc after sync synchronises etc).We’ll ned to keep the incs for the required retention and see if we can get synthetics running properly. Job summary only shows incs so no reasons for synth not running. However, what I see in job history for client is the synth schedule does kick in and runs its incremental (before) backup but then no synthetic full gets run.

Hello, I am trying to install a file system agent in a Linux machine via answer file but after the installation is successfull, the client hostname on Commvault is the default of the machine and not the one i put on the xml. <clientEntity clientName='vm1"' hostName='vm1.bck.mngt.local"' /> I want it to appear with the domain .bck.mngt.local but instead appears with the machine default domain. Can anyone help?Thank you.

 Hello everyone, We try to make it easier for our users to use the Edge Drive functionality so that they have easier access to their documents even when they work from home because of COVID19. We want to allow them to use the Edge Drive uploader tool, because we have internally banned the use of some cloud solutions (Dropbox, OneDrive, etc)Since I understand that turning on Edge for clients means that these folders are backed up, I want to ask for advice, to make it easier for everyone, without burdening the backup itself from the other side. If I tell users that they use folders for Edge Drive) that they normally have set to be saved (for example My documents) will this mean that they are saved twice in the backup. What do you recommend, that the backup from the EDGE drive may be disabled, but then we risk if someone chooses a different folder that it will not be saved in case of a failure.Thank you

Hight endpoint CPU utilization while backup

Hello,I am currently working on a dedicated workflow to split the content of multiple subclients to have subclients with the same size.  To do that, I would like to perform a “Browse & Restore” on the backup set using API call to retrieve all the volume size and perform my distribution.I’ve tried to find something like GET /Subclient/{{id}}/Browse?path=%5C call for backup sets but I found nothing.I tried to perform a GET /Subclient/{{id}}/Browse?path=%5C but the returned status code is 400. Maybe you will be able to give me a workaround or inform me about hidden API calls? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi All,We have daily incr and monthly synthetic full backup but i got restore request to restore the entire data please let me know how can restore all the data,  shall i restore latest sythetic full and then incr or shall i restore or shall i restore Base full backup and latest incr backup, i tired both but user asking all data not restored

We recently noticed that during our Domain Controller / Active Directory agent installed during the backup we get a scom alert that says “AD Replication Monitoring : The following DCs have clocks which are set in the future.  This can cause replication errors in Active Directory and prevents the 'AD Replication Monitoring' script from detecting replication errors. It happens on our primary Domain Controller and it affects our other two servers. I have the VSA backing up the VM and a separate schedule that backs up the AD portion. I don’t see any alerts or failures in the job history, any thoughts?If I remove the primary NTP / AD server from the backup schedule the error is not generated so I’m thinking maybe contention / overlap with the VSA and AD client? 

For some reason we have some tenants’ clients (VSA and File system) that have not been running synthetic full (set for weekly and part of plans).Is there a way we can create retrospective synthetic backups? We need to retain monthly backups for 1 year. Currently, we have the initial full and lots of incremental backup which of course won’t age until cycles/days are complete.

Hello, Our Customer has PostgreSQL systems. We are backing up some of these systems with block-level. I started seeing errors in incoming reports;Error Code: [80:123]Description: Snap Job [<Job ID>], Storage Policy [<Policy Name>] is skipped for backup copy as the job is not picked.Source: <commserve>, Process: JobManager We have a storage policy with snapshot copy and spool copy is enabled. In Job Selection Rule all backups selected. I couldn't find anything useful in the logs. Can anyone help me with this? Commvault Version: 11.20.27Commserve is a virtual machine Server 2019 installed.Media Agent is a physical machine Server 2019 installed.PostgreSQL installed on RedHat 7.7 and PostgreSQL version is 12.4.

I am struggling greatly with how CommVault handles Exchange Online backup data aging. I have heard on numerous occasions that CommVault never actually purges message data from disk when an Exchange Online backup reaches its retention limit.It was explained to me that the data is just “marked as aged” and is never deleted from disk. Since there is no backup cycle (incremental forever) per-se with Exchange Online Backups that means the junk message I receive from Amazon today will persist on disk for all time.Please convince me how this is not a really bad solution - help me come up with convincing argument against moving away from CommVault for Exchange Online backups. Rumor has it CV is developing a way to properly purge/age data but there is no expectation it will happen any time soon. Thanks!

Hi all. Today we have a network setup where Commserve and MediaAgents resides on one network and clients on another.network seperated by a firewall. We use one-way direction connection, where clients opens the connection to the Commserve/MediaAgents. My questions is, wouldn't it be more secure to have a one-way direction connection from the CommServe/MediaAgents to the clients and not like we have it today. As I understands it, it was the standard way of doing the network settings in the “old” days. Regards-Anders

Imagine the following situation: You have a VM, with windows . Machine is called VM1. That VM1 has a file agent, and -for example- an Oracle system configured. That VM1 is being cloned, on virtualization level, to VM2. Of course, VM2 is being renamed on machine level to VM2. (hostname).How can we reuse the same commvault agent VM1 settings, and “clone” it to VM2.With that I mean : without reinstalling everything of commvault on VM2, and without the need to figure out the passwords which were used in VM1 Oracle agent.

Hi there! My task is to test how Commvault Endpoint protection works. However, I am still a little bit confused. How should I deploy Commvault Endpoint Protection client? There is only possibility to deploy standard File System agents to ensure backup and recovery of PCs, isn't?. So, where is the diferrence between standard Backup solution and Endpoint protection? In fact, what is the best Commvault product for disaster recovery of endpoint clients - specifically personal computers? Is it really Commvault Endpoint Protection?Thanks in advance for your help!

The file system backups are showing as successful(no warning) however failing to protect some of the files; I  am wondering why the job is not completing with partial sucess and showing it as a VSS issue.  Is that becuase there are no application specific vss writers for the application and hence quiesing is not working its magic [C:\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BES Client\__BESData\SiteData.db] The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
