Hi! Is there a way to check if media agent has on-going activity? Don’t see any API for job controller or media agent call that can be used.  I’m struggling with automatic patching for backup infrastructure but want to avoid interfering with client backup jobs or stuck LTO tapes as a result of reboot in the middle of write. So want to check if media agent is in use in a loop and reboot if no job is actually running.  Thanks. 

Hi,Looking for some feedback from the community on how to proper address the below scenario.I have a need for separating a specific licenses into different chunks (or storage policies or something else). In other words, I have different departments buying end point users licenses for example; HR / Supply chain and each purchased 20. They want to make sure that there are free licenses once they need and receive reports on the available licenses for their area. Am I able to allocate a number of specific licenses to a specific storage policy? Can I allocate a # licenses to a CommCell Group and once installing those machines, we place them into a group which then consumes the license for that particular group?These departments have different storage policies. What would be the most appropriate way to make sure each department gets only what they purchased license wise? Thanks in advance

Hello everyone,one of our customers wanted to change the user for backing up his database via the Commvault WebUI. When he tried to do this, he received the following message:The user does not have [Use Plan] rights for the plans [MySQL-Database].The user [TSK-CV] could not be verified for the instance [BAV1]. Check that the services are online and with the correct user name and password.I checked the permissions of the Tenant Admin role and could not find any permissions that might be missing.Can you possibly help me here?RegardsThomas

We have a new environment with HSX setup; we have a single copy of the data going to HSX and we retained some backups for 5 years. I am sceptical of this design; apart from not following the best practices of a secondary copy; what are the impacts of storing this data for long term in the same copy? Would it have any impact on DDB (although with design we do have ddb split across multiple nodes); would the chances of corruption of this data would be more?    

In the MaxDB Workflow properties, what should the Security tab look like?Does ‘master’ user and ‘master’ role need to be added?  Or just the specific commvault service account with master (or custom) role be applied?

Hello, I'm trying to perform a restore using a test environment.I'm trying to restore the VM using tapes. The backup server and media agent are not on the same server.When I start the restore process, I can restore the index, view the VMDK files, and start the restore pointing to a VCENTER and the datastore with space.The restore starts and reaches 92% and fails. The error message says that communication with the media agent has been lost.Has anyone experienced this and can help me?

Hi folks,I'm building a custom report using SQL. The final output should look more or less like the “Backup Job Summary” report in Command Center. However, I'm running into issues with the Retention column.I’ve figured out how to pull the standard retention using the following query: SELECT    J.jobId,    AR.retentionDaysFROM JMJobDataStats JINNER JOIN archGroup AG ON J.archGrpId = AG.idINNER JOIN archAgingRule AR ON J.archGrpCopyId = AR.copyId The problem is that this query doesn’t return jobs that have extended retention. I’m aware of the archAgingRuleExtended table and tried selecting from both tables and then taking the greater value — but this approach doesn’t seem to work.I also tried applying the extended retention only when JMJobDataStats.retentionFlags > 0, but that didn’t help either 🙁I’m sure I’m missing something obvious, but I can’t figure out what exactly. There must be some indication that a particular job is using extended retention, but I haven’t been able to find

Hi:Which is the best way to migrate from Commvault to Commvault Cloud? (Metallic) I have been told that there is not an utility to do it and that should be a restore and backup process just like as going from another software to Commvault, but I guess that a lot of customers may have the same requirement.Any thoughts will be appreciated.Best,Paul

We often note that file indexing jobs go to pending state with message:“Set pending cause [All of the backup agents are at the stream limit.]”Other jobs like backups and auxiliary copies are running fine at the same time. I have not found any setting which would change the number of streams used for file indexing.Any hint is highly appreciated.

Hello!While playing in my home lab, with some limited functions i have decided to play a little with Network Interfaces ip configurations etc. Since i have switched networks and addresation Commvault is not longe able to work  In logs while trying to reinstal packages i do have this error: I have changed SQL configuration in this place - here is a new address.Commvault is installed Localy on same server as SQL. I have no access to WebConsole, CommandCenter or even Commcell Console. Is there any config file, or reg entry where i can check how CV wants to connect to by DB?I do not have much experience with SQL DBs. Im running on 11.36

Is there a way to Restrict Commcell Console and Command Center access only from the Jump servers IPs without affecting the existing backup operations? We have a multiple vCenter that is communicating with commvault to backup the VMs. If I create a firewall rule that will only allow access from the Jumpservers, would that affect the backup/restore operations? TIA!

I keep getting these job failures and i have gone through everything that i can think of to resolve this. does any one have any ideas or ways to fix this issue?   One or more volumes are not supported for VSS Shadow Copies. Possible causes: - Unsupported volume or file system type (eg. FAT, FAT32). - Unsupported volume size (over 64TB). - Remote or network volume not accessible. - Other, check the logs for more details.

Hi All, we have some vms with shared volumes. This is not support we know. But we have one question. We added scsi filter for all shared discs in the subclient filters so that only the local attched discs are backuped. But we still getting this event: scsi-1 Warning volume groups are not supported The job is shown as completed. Do you have an idear why the exclude is not working and the event vomes up ?

Hello,Following our upgrade to version 11.36.46 (from 11.32), we have observed an unusual behavior during the browse and restore operations. The file systems are being randomly mounted either on the configured FRE or on one of the HSX nodes designated for server backup.Since the HSX nodes are still running on RHEL 7.9, the browse operation fails for clients that are on RHEL 8.*.We likely wouldn't have noticed this issue if the browse operation hadn't failed. Is this the expecetd way the system operates ?   Thanks
