Hello guys, can you help me with a topic,I need to add a kvm environment to be backed up in commvault, currently there is already an ovm environment, but I don't know if I need to add more licenses, there are 17 virtual machines in that environment.
Hello everyone, We have an environment that consists of more than 100 VMs with a significant amount in TB in total. Analyzing the documentation https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/1661_hardware_specifications_for_virtual_server_agent.html, it only informs the sizing of the VSA and its capacity for FET.We have implemented 1 VSA with the Medium specification, however, when running some Jobs, we noticed that only 5 VMs at a time are executed and this is the number of Data Readers for VMs Groups for all hypervisors standard, as mentioned in the documentation: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023/essential/107675_default_number_of_data_readers_for_vm_groups.html Also, the transport mode is mixed, some VMs are using nbd others are using hotadd.Because of this, we are concerned that the backups of this environment will take too long to protect the entire environment. So, thinking about this scenario, I was left with doubts about the number of VSAs needed to implement in the e
We run 11.20 CV. Need to restore a vm and it fails because we just recently updated vmware to vsphere 8.0 Will upgrade commvault to 11.32, but it will take some time untill we do. Meanwhile need to restore a vm and restore fails. What is the best workaround? Can we create a temporary older dummy host of older vmware version?

Hello All. We have 4700 VMs with a couple dozen backups sets where I need to exclude VMs that don't require a backup. e.g. AD, DNS, VDI, etc. I know I can manually open each backupset and create a VM Filter, but I'm thinking there's a better way.It would be great to have a "global filter" for VMs similar to WinFS and LinuxFS clients. Is there a way to utilize PowerShell or CV CLI?Or is there some other way I’m not thinking and I’m making this harder than it needs to be?Thanks!DanPS after typing this I'm thinking I should have less backupsets… but still interested in your thoughts. :)
Hi, the customer has two locations. A and B. On both we have separate media agents with library attached. Media agents between locations don’t have any communication and we can’t change it.He was doing VSA VM1 backup on location A. They have migrated VM1 to location B and started backup. Full backup is working fine but during incremental we have problem with restoring indexes. During incremental backup the job tries to restore index from location A to the index cache on media agent B. As there is no communication between them we’ve got an error and the job failed. What can we do about it? Can we somehow recreate index on media agent B? Regards,Lukas
Dear teamWe need a confirmation or explanation for the following restore issue. IntelliSnap Backups are running every 6 hrs.Only the last daily “full” is selected to be backup copied to a disk library. For NAS and Virtualization IntelliSnap backups, an incremental backup Job is interpreted as full.As the result the last IntelliSnap Backup of the day is selected to be backup copied. Consultant did a Full VM restore from the copy available on the disk library but after the completed restore, the virtual machine did not come up. Since only every 4th backup is moved to disk library, he’d expect, that an incremental backup copy uses the last completed backup copy as reference point for the backup copy. But for him it looked as if the incremental backup copy is referencing the latest Snap Backup instead. Please confirm:Commvault needs the data of ALL incremental snap backups to enable a consistent restore. An incremental backup copy can only be used for restores, if all snap backups, between
HelloRecently our Windows VSA proxies started to bluescreen during backup when we are using HotAdd as transport Mode. Switching to NBD works fine, but is a lot slower.Happens in 2 different ESX cluster running both vSphere 7.3 and 8The server BSOD with messageHYPERVISOR_ERROR (20001)The hypervisor has encountered a fatal error.Arguments:Arg1: 0000000000000013Arg2: 0000000000000000Arg3: 0000000029b92701Arg4: ffffe800005492c0 Anyone else experienced recent issues with HotAdd backups?
Hi guys,How to restore a VMware virtual machine to a previous date? Could you help me, please?
Hello, Has anyone heard anything from Commvault regarding support of vCloud director 10.5?It was released sometime a month ago i guess and customers are already starting to push us for the upgrade. With the 10.4 release in mind and the deprecated API’s for backup in that release I googled and I see that on the green competitor’s forum that if you do the upgrade to 10.5 now, backup will just stop as it did when 10.4 was not supported by Commvault or other backup providers.
I have a number of VSA psuedoclients that need to renamed but the option simply isn't there.Am I missing something simple? I can’t imagine this is a real issue.
Hi Commvault Team, The Application-Aware Backup is supported for the Microsoft Azure stack hub? Thanks,Amr
Where are the options for putting restores into a virtual lab? Documentation seems limited. Any suggestions? I could ping for PS - but I’d like to read and build it out myself if possible.
We are planned to powdered off the vCenter. before doing power it off planning to take decommissioned backup, please suggest can we take entire VMs hosted in the vCenter or all folders or only selecting vCenter. please suggest
Hello good,I would like to know if there is any way to know the # data reader of each subclient configured in Virtual Machines backup, either through a report, query, etc.To determine the load of the storage libraries by subclient and their programming in order to avoid saturation of jobs and resources.Thank you,Regards.
Hi all we have a metallic setup where we have decreased our VM usage but in the usage stats it still shows historic and current VM setups which has blown our usage out - it shows that we have 30 VM when we only have 8Is there any way we can correct this
Hello, I am trying to investigate an issue going on in our environment where a stakeholder is asking us to audit our environment and what is being backed up. I am starting to look into their servers and notice on a couple of servers in the most recent full and see several mount points are listed but some of the mount points show no data, this is what I was suspecting. However, some of the mount points are showing data and it appears that it was able to backup the data in this mount point. Looking into why Commvault was able to backup some mount points but not others? Does it matter what type of protocol the storage array is using - CIFS or NFS to be able to be backed up? Thanks for any info or documentation you can provideCody
Hello, everyone! This post is mostly intended to provide a search result in the event someone comes across the same issue I did. If this type of post is not allowed please forgive me. While trying to perform a Live Mount for a VMware VM being backed up via a connected vCenter environment, the job was failing with error description “Live Mount is supported by VMware VMs only.” Naturally I was confused because the backed up VM was in-fact a VMware VM. Googling yielded no results, hence this post. The cause was rather simple: the job was just failing because an existing backup job was still running. Even though the VM itself was already finished being backed up, the parent job was still running on another VM. The solution was to just wait for the entire backup job to complete. I hope this helps keep someone from panicking in the future!
I’ve configured in storage dts in read/write,m but when i tried to restore in transport mode SAN, we have problems and i received this error, i hope someane can help me please.Thank you.
I have a Windows server configured as a VM running on VMware, this server has a LUN attached with iSCSI with a file system that is NOT a virtual disk. Am I correct in saying to back this up I need to use a Full Agent such as a Hardware agent? Currently as configured the only backups I am seeing are the Virtual disks associated with this server such as the startup disk.
HiWe are currently implementing Commvault in a Huawei Cloud Stack (version 8.1.1) environment to run backups for different workloads. Please advise on the Commvault requirements to ensure a working solution.
Hi,Below is my configuration:Commserve is VM machine and version is 11.24.103.Media servers - 1 is Physical and another is VM - Both are configured as Disk’s library (Disk’s are coming from Storage Lun’s).Proxy Node (Access Node) - Both media servers are assigned as access node.We have around 100 VM servers under a vCenter, so I have split 10 sub clients in each VM.I have selected the Auto mode and backups are running nbd most jobs.Currently, I can see the backup/restores are running very slow. Is there anything I can do improve the speed. Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone, I looked in the documentation, however, I did not find anything about it. How can I perform DR of on-premise VMware VMs using Google Cloud VMware Engine as target? Are there any restrictions or best practices for implementation? Thanks, 🙂Antonio.
Hi,We’re running into a strange issue with hotadd VM backups. For some VMs we see the error “Failed to download config file” and “Failed to open disk”. This is never for the same VMs over and over again, but sporadic and always for different VMs.We have two SCSI controllers defined on the Proxy and each controller has a “dummy”/”actual” disk as the first disk. (As advised by VMWare: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2075069Has anyone ever seen this issue? Any idea what might be causing it?
We would like to run a pre-backup script that freezes our IRIS database on a Red Hat EC2 instance, after the freeze is successful we would want to run an Intellisnap backup of that Red Hat EC2 instance and then once the backup completes, unfreeze the IRIS database. What is the best way to get Commvault to orchestrate this process ? Thanks
