We are currently trying to test a restore using a Linux VSA for several windows servers (2012R2,2016,2019). After the first backup and restore we haven't had any issues restoring specific files to the same server of to other servers (all windows).Unfortunately after last nights backup, today we tried again to restore some files, with no success.Every time we try to select the destination server we get prompted with user/password for that server and then we try to browse for the specific path, but we keep getting the same error:Something went wrong. Server may be under maintenance. Trace ID: cvtZsQyx9YDid something happened during the backup process and now the servers are not visible? This is a first time issue and cant get a solution for it.Any advises are appreciated. Thank you.
I'm stuck trying to restore Guest files and folders on an agentless VWware client. It seems to be an authetication issue. The VMware tools are up-to-date on the client. As a new user of Commvault we would like to rely on your experience. We are planning to upgrade our vCenter from a windows based vCenter version 6.5 to an appliance with version 7.0u3. The plan is to do an in-place upgrade of the vCenter, name and IP-details stay the same.As the vCenter will change OS from windows to Linux based, The Commserve could see the vCenter as a new client. We would like to know if this update can trigger a Full backup on all VM's in this vCenter..? Hopefully some one has done this before and knows the impact.
Hi all,I am looking for some hints and tips to configure vCloud director as a restore target. We added a MA with VSA at the vCloud location.Added vCloud director as hypervisor to CV. I can browse and backup. We want to restore to vCloud from an on-premises vCenter/ESXi setup. When doing an out-of-place restore, I cannot select the vCloud director nor set it up as restore target.I did not add the vCenter(s) mentioned in step 9 from below deocumentation.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/86801_editing_hypervisor_configuration.htmlIt should be supported:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/87275_restoring_full_virtual_machines_for_vmware.htmlEnviroment is running 11.24.43Thanks for your help!Regards, Martijn
HI Team, can someone advice the error below? why i encounter this recently? I running the Backup Copy from secondary snap copy to primary backup copy. Hello everyone,I have some VMs that are being protected, and for these VMs, a Plan was created for them (as we are MSP, and each VM has a specific schedule, a specific Plan was created to protect them) and the Plan was associated for them. With this, two of the VMs it was necessary to configure the DR, and a Replication Group was created as should be, and the VMs was associated with this Replication Group.I know that for the Disaster Recovery work needs to perform a backup job first in the source and with this backup job update the destination. Still, one thing came to my mind looking at this scenario: What happened with the Plan I created and associated before? The backup will be running as expected or only the DR? Also, after creating the Replication Group, both VMs are in this Replication Group, and I cannot manage the Plan as I can do with the other VMs in Command Center.Does anyone have any idea about this? Thanks, 😊.
We are retiring a vcentre and associated hosts and would very much like to “migrate” sub-clients from the old vcentre to the new vcentre it would be highly desirable to have the “jobs” move also so that we retain a history in a contiguous manner.
How do the data readers of a VMware subclient relate to the VSA/Access Nodes? If we have 12 readers configured with 4x VSA’s will it run 12 readers on each VSA giving us 48 total streams? Or will it split the 12 readers evenly across the 4x VSA’s, creating 3x streams for each VSA?
Hello, Team. I have a customer whom i deploying commvault for. They are looking to backup Amazon EC2 Instance Virtual Machines and also some Hyper and EXSI vms (on-prem).I have given them requirements to have the proxy which will also serve as a media agent on Amazon for the cloud VMs (VMs are scattered across different regions(it would have been if they had 1 proxy for each region)). and also a proxy on-prem for the EXSI and Hyper-V. Customer is saying cost for another VM on the EC2 instance is high. They want to use On-prem server as proxy and Media agent for the EC2 instance. Is that ideal? Looking forward to your responses.
Backup Set 1 has this errorThere is no error when I create and receive backup set 2.
Hi Team,I have a remote site B which i want to restore VM.The Remote Site Host are connected with vCenter at site A.I have deployed one Media Agent at site B.when i select that Media Agent at site B (same host/same site) i cannot browse the Datacenter / Host list.I able to restore use Media Agent at A site.i have to use B site MA in order make the restoration process run faster where the site A MA took 4Hours for restore since cross site. Please advise which setting i have to do to fix the error. Thanks.
We have a lot of VMs which changed the backup from filesystem based to VSA and some from VSA to filesystem based. When we move a FS backup client to VSA backup we do uninstall CommVault software.I expect when we move a client from VSA to FS backup, the VSA configuration (client properties) should be gone when last backup it’s aged out, same in the other direction. If not is there a possibility to remove it? Or what we need to do to have a clean commcell.my problem is: when I catch information via API I am not sure if I got current configuration or the old configuration. sample: I see then last backup taken via FS backup 2 weeks ago but hidden we taken VSA backups which are up2date.CV version: 11.24.34regards Juergen
Hi fellows, with respect to the Books online it should be possible to restore Guest Files back to the Redhat Guest.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/31969_restores.html"Files and folders can be restored to the source VM, to a physical client, or to a VM with an appropriate agent installed. "Unfortunately it is not possible to select a "restore to guest" during Restore in Commcell Console or Command Center (11.24). Do I miss something? Is there an additional setting that I have to use for this case? Regards.Michael
Hello,I’m getting a partial failure when doing a backup operation to one of my client in vmware. The failure reason goes as follow: SERVERNAME\[DATASTORENAME] SERVERNAME/VMDKNAME-000001.vmdk FailedFailed to collect disk block information. After doing some google fu and trying to find something in commvault KB I failed short. Anyone can help me in resolving this? Thanks

Hello,Can I know what is the process or algorithm of VSA coordinator proxy node on how it load balances between the VSA proxy server in the list .. Any link or explanation would be helpful.. I have seen cases where 20-25 VSA proxy nodes are used in very large environment… Hence would like to know how the proxy nodes are spanned across each VM during the backup process.. Thanks
Hello all,we have a problem to browse “Guest Files an Folders” of VMs using Bios with MBR Partitions where a Recovery Partition with ID 27 is present. [MsgId[0x0e0000f4][Failed to initialize browse request. Check Browse.log on CommServe for more details.]: [1] Args Pushed, [0] Args expected. If i change the Partition ID from 27 to 07 and rerun the backup browsing within this backup is no problem. If i turn it back to 27 and rerun the backup job, browsing is impossible.Commserve and MediaAgents are on Version 11.22.62, our primary Backup target is a Falconstor VTL.
Hi all,I’m looking to configure Disaster Recovery for VMware. The documentation and the configuration is quite clear. I am perplexed by the configuration of the VM network, in particular the mapping of the source network to the destination network. When I configure the recovery target (destination vCenter) it’s possible to configure only one target network, instead of having the possiblity to configure a complete mapping of all existing networks. The only way I found to configure the network mapping is to do it VM for VM, network adapter for network adapter, making the configuration impossible if in front of hundreds/thousands of VM.Is there any way to configure it globally? Are there any possibility to implement this functionallity in the future releases? ThanksFabrizio
Is it possible to make a full backup of a physical server in order to be able to restore it on my vCenter? 🤔
Hi guys, For a specific need, I wanted to create VMs MA with VMware. As the goal of the virtualization part, it to be able to control the power state of the VMs.I know that Commvault has “VM Power Management” which offers the possibility to control VMs. But I still have confusions on how to implement this, does my VMs have to be added as client first on my commcell then install the MA package, or do they have to be added in a separate way ? The final goal is to be able to shut down a VM MA after an aux copy job.Any tips would be much appreciated Regards.
