hi, I was recently discussing with a customer.Their wish is to backup a Datastores files only like the folder marked red in below screenshot:this data is not presented to VM so I did not know of a way to do this.is there any way to backup that specific folder via a VSA backup?or will we need to present the data in a different way? thanks and kind regards,Thos Gieskes.

Lately we are having several windows servers (6 until now in the past 2 weeks) getting into recovery mode. By coincidence the only thing that we updated lately was the commvault version to 11.25.19.Could commvault be causing windows to enter recovery mode?

Hi community,I am running a large Hyper-V and VMware setup and several admins are editing the subclients.When we edit two different VSA subclients (for the same VSA pseudo client) at the same time, we get an error message:→ This property sheet is opened by ‘user1’ your changes may be overwritten by ‘user2’and wenn the second user leaves the subclient after editing the changes are lost and we get the message:→ There have been changes made to this subclient or backup set. Please refresh Commcell Console and resubmit your changes. From my point s not make sense. If this were two subclients in a File System Agent this would make sense, because these subclients affect each other. But in a VSA setup these subclients are/should be independend. And even more strange: I can edit the two subclients in the Command Center (aka VM-Groups) without an error. Is there any setting to avoid the “locking” of VSA subclients in the Commcell Console? Regards.Michael

In the following URL vSAN Support for the Virtual Server Agent with VMware (commvault.com), it is written “For Service Pack 11 and later, the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) provides support for streaming backups, IntelliSnap backups, and restores of virtual machines on VMware Virtual SAN (vSAN) datastores.”In the case of  VMware vSAN, what is the difference between streaming & Intellisnap backups?Is the hotadd transport mode linked to Intellisnap backups and the NBD transport mode linked to streaming backups?Thanks & Regards

Hi !We have 2 VCenter servers, let’s say VCenterA and VCenterB, each managing different VirtualDatacenters with multiple ESXi hosts on multiple sites, each hosting hundreds of VMs.We are using only one Commserve to backup the VMs hosted on each of the VCenters, and I have created a VMWare VSA client for VCenterA, and another one for VCenterB. Today my VMWare admin is telling me he would like to quickly use the VMWare Enhanced Linked Mode to be able to centralize his VCenters’ administration, perform operations between both VCenters like enhanced vMotion, and so on. I have searched the CV documentation site for ELM keyword or Enhanced Linked Mode, but found no result. What I fear is that after linking both VCenters, this would have an impact on the way my Commserve would report the VMs, being then able to ‘see’/discover the VMs of VCenterA in my VSA client for VCenterB, and see the VMs of VCenterB in my VSA client of VCenterA, for example.Has anyone experienced such operation ?I’m beein

hi everyone,after regular snapshot backup the Commvault doesn't delete snapshots.As of this moment, the snapshot capacity is above 22Twe are not working with IntelliSnap or some solutions, our vSphere version is 6.7u3I would be happy for any help or suggestion.thank you!

Looking to restore guest files from a VM, any suggestions on what options to select?

i am having this issue wherein the VM level backup for this one VM is failing “The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur. Please check the available free space and status of the volume being protected.” Other VMs are fine. we are on SP22 ; unfortunately this has just gone out of support; however we are booking at time to upgrade to SP24; although I am not sure if being on SP22 affects the backup as other VMs are working okay.  Although support did advise that if we do not upgrade; they would not be able to troubleshoot the issue further.  

When I add a new subclient for Amazon vms and for content I select a region, will it automatically back up any new vms added to the region? The subclients do not have the “all unprotected vms” option.Thanks

For the most part, we use VMware… in our 2 Data Centers We have Remote Branch Offices (17), that will be getting new Physical Servers, that will run M$ Hyper-V on them.  We will have 2 Virtual Servers under each Hyper -V Server.  One of the VM’s will be running Servers roles (DFS, SCCM distro points, and DHCP).  The other will be for File storage (user and Groups files).From the CommServe Console, I have installed the CV Client on the Physical server.Looking for High level planning on how to back up this Model….Do I install the CV Client on the VM’s too?

Hello All,I am planning to enable the App aware backups for the MySQL database and VM’ which has vRDM. In order to use the intellisnap, Do i need to create a storage array if i m using the native snap engines? If i use native snap engine, storage array and snap copy on storage copy will be auto created? If i use hardware snapshots then i believe storage array must be created before i enable the intellisnap with correct snap enginePlease correct me and help me to understand the app aware backups (Streaming & Intellisnap)

Hello All, Today we have received the task from Business to restore some file from Linux VM in AZURE. Media Agent is only Windows VM and during the process of restore indexes in Commvault Commcell Error appeared. And my question do we have some workaround in that case to restore the file from that type of backup? I see two options: Restore whole machine and reassigned disk to production server and then copy file between the locations.  Create a new one Media Agent built on Linux OS and restore the data directly to the server.But I am looking for some abother option which can be performed in that type of case. I will be very graceful for any adviceories or any ideas. Regards, Michal 

We have (and have had) VM’s that are “doing a lot” and the snapshot that occurs for the VM backups causes the application to see a “hiccup”.  There’s always a query from the application team to “find out what's happening” and it always works out to just “stop using CommVault to back this up via VMware backup, use the client backup instead”  the issue disappears and everyone is happy, except me…After I take the VM out of VMware backups, I need to add a client.. adding the client with the same hostname/display name results in an a pop up/error: "duplicate entry. Client [server name here] already exists.  Try with a different client name’We have been getting around this by naming the client something like ‘servername_1”.  in some cases, we have “servername_3” as it looks like the client was moved back and forth between vmware and client backups several times…is there a ‘better” or recommended way to handle this where we don’t have the “servername_1” in our client computer lists?  it isn't

Does Commvault always need to create an AMI for virtual server backups in AWS?If we turn off CBT, will the AMI be deleted after the virtual server backup completes?If we turn off CBT, what are the pros and cons?Are hotadd and EBS direct the only two available transport modes?If there is a 3TB EC2 instance, how long will it take to create an AMI for the backup?Thanks 

Hello, After we upgrade SP to 11.25 i see some issue in some of vm backup. The Vm staying in waiting staats and and saying Please check the log files for this job for more details. I wil uploade job log here. If on next day i resubmit job its wil run normaly.
