Hi Vaulters,We have a project to deploy a virtual MA into an ESX environment. It will backup other VM’s in the ESX environment. Are there any specifics that I need to be aware of?Will SAN transport be available rather than NBD?I don’t see any specific Virtual requirements in the docco so let me know if there are any, thanks.
I am trying to configure backups for ca-west-1 ( calgery) region which we recently expanded our AWS infra in the Canada region.unfortunately I cant see the instances from region shows up in the Commvault console.I reached my AM to know more above it , but its still yet to reach internal teams and get resonpse but I know the documentation did not mentioned the region in the supported list yet.By any change any of you had similar need and got it fixed with a patch or addtional key setting ?
Hi,we have 2 vCenter and we use the vCenter backup from commvault. Most of the VMs moved from vmcbdf01 to vcenter1.But in the client computer groups i see them on both as active. But why when they are only hostet on vcenter1. Why are the VMs active on vmcbdf01?I have retired the client on vmcbdf01 but then he uninstalled the agent of the client when there was it installed :-(Now some clients are twice in my list. One (with only the SQL backup) is hostet on vmcbdf01.The other one with VMInstance is hostet on vcenter1.Why that? What means the VMInstance?I backup it with the vCenter backup. Is this a twice backup now?How does the VMInstance come into being? That wasn't the case before.RegardsDennis
Hi all, Trying to recovery my SLES file server backup as a Vmware virtual machine but I am getting faced with these errors. I have already done the 1 touch recovery backup. Any tips on where I can start looking? Also, what network configurations should I use if I want to recover this without disrupting my production network?
Trying to deploy CV to protect my Hyper-V cluster (intend is to use intellisnap). However after installing the product and trying to configure Hyper-V as hypervisor, it just doesn’t discover any nodes in the cluster nor discover individual nodes. The access node will be available during the first discovery try and then after few seconds it comes back with no error and now access nodes won’t be available.Setup:Hyper-V 2022 2 node clusterPermissions for account used – part of Hyper-V administrator group, Users group, Administrator group, backup administrator group. The account have full control on the hyper-v cluster.Commcell server v 11.34.5 (initial app setup complete – storage and plan added) and Array configured.Mediaagent and VSA installed on both Hyper-V nodes (so total 3 access nodes) There is no log or messages in Events. Any pointers to get my hyper-v discovery working. Looking for inputs from this great community.
Hello Communinty, I would like to know some details about backup in Azure for VMs. I checked that disks in Azure has access from public all networks. Please let me know what can be the impact on Commvault if we use option to Disable public access and enable public access. I know it is related to snapshot copy, etc. Another question is:Do we have some threat to exposied our data to the internet. Regards, Michal
Hey, i would like to restore a VMDK file directly to a datastore from a Hypervisor (VMWare) without attaching it to a VM. Am I just unable to find the function, or can Commvault really only restore single VMDK files on a MediaAgent or directly on a datastore with the requirement to attach them to a VM?Shouldn’t be this a easy implementation as the process already exist (Restore Disk to VM). Just removing the attache step.
Hi,I am unable of restoring a full virtual machine from Nutanix AHV using Command Center.Restoring a Full VM from vCenter is working however.Restoring the VM from AHV using the Commcell Console is also working.Problem was noticed in version 11.34.20. I upgraded today to version 11.34.27. That is no solution.Anyone any idea how to solve this?Regards,Bart
Dear ones, The client requests a survey of VM growth from January to date to find out how many are being protected month by month, do we have some kind of report that provides this information on the growth of Virtual Machines?
Dear Team,I have three node Hyperscale cluster. Comcell server is outside hyperscale running inside a Windows VM. version 11.24 At present we are backing up 50 vmware VM clients and few SQL clients. We are procuring a large capacity Hyperscale to add another new 600 Virtual machines to get backed up. I want to move the exisiting SQL clients and 50 vms to new hyperscale. What is the best approach , setup a new comcell and configure everything like storage policies Dedupe and new VSA servers or add the new Hyperscale machines as new setup of media agents and configure backups? Please advise
Hello,VM was migrated to different vCenter, now it has two BackupSets old and new. Could you say please how to remove old one?
While attempting to initiate backup procedures, I observed that while I could back up the entire virtual machine (VM), I encountered difficulty in selecting specific files and folders when creating the VM group. In my Azure Stack HCI environment, VMs are deployed, and my objective is to exclusively back up files and folders rather than the entire VM. Please refer to the image below for context. We have followed this document foradding the HCI environment. https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/adding_azure_stack_hci_hypervisor.htmlCould you kindly provide guidance on whether it's possible to back up only files and folders within VMs which are on Azure stack hci ? If so, could you please provide the necessary documentation for configuring this feature?
New vCentre added and unfortunately the account used to add into Commvault had visibility and admin rights over the entire inventory and not a specific folder as required. When a “Refresh datacentres, discover VM’s” action was performed every single VM appeared in the VM list. A subsequent modification adjusted the permissions on the account to limit it to the required folders and a repeat of the process did not reduce the VM count.I have now retired and deleted the vCentre object and the VM’s remain :-( Is there a scheduled clean up process to resolve this issue? There was a single test VM group with a single VM and that was deleted before retiring the vcentre. I was hoping removing the vCentre and re-adding it would resolve the plethora of VM’s we do not want in the inventory.
I have VM backup configured at vCenter level.I do have separate service account configured to access the vCenter and it does have Admin level permissions. Now, i do see that the service account do have interactive login enabled. Is it ok to disable the interactive login?will it disrupt any work functionality if disabled?I do see from Knowledge base articles that the account should have Admin level permissions and then we are good to go.Just need this doubt to be clarified before I disable the interactive login.
Hello dears im facing a weird issue regarding redhat virtualization backup client configuration is ok, proxy VM is located on the RHEV backup was performing ok but, suddenly an issue while backing up the VMs most of the VMs failed to back up with the below error Unknown VMInfo error [0] reported from VMinfo for [VM name ] i have checked the vsbkp log but couldn’t find a clear error cvfwd log does not have any errors. Hi,Could you please explain Media agent licensing in 2023E. Platform release change list contains information regarding Active and Inactive MediaAgents (https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/changes_in_commvault_platform_release_2023e.html).It states that media agents will consume some license when you create some storage. What kind of license is mentioned? For example for setup with per-VM licensing model? Thank you!
Hi, I have a VM which fails, with error failed to get index information from previous backup. The index cannot be accessed. try again later. I have run a full backup. this completes successfully and then ran an incremental backup on this VM and the issue still persists. This issue is only occurs when you run an incremental backup on this one VM. Are there any suggestion we can try?
Hello,Does anyone have a working request body for an out of place restore that goes from Vmware to HyperV?All of the example and docs only talk about going from VMware to Vmware and i cant figure out what all i need to make a valid restore. My main issues right now are i cant seem to get it to cluster the vm, add the nic, or put the vmconfig in the correct place. I can get it to restore the disks to the correct place but the vm config stays in c:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\iDataAgent\JobResults\CV_JobResults\iDataAgent which isnt going to work. Also, even though it does put the disks in the correct place, it also appears to leave\start with a copy in c:\windows\vmwaredatastorename, which isnt good either when the vm is large. Here is what i have so far, like it said, it does restore kinda, but i would like to not have to to write some sort of post-processor to make it all work. Doing it manually works great. Here is what i have so far that i have guessed at from the docs.{"de
We are using a 100M line, and we are currently using a single network to an external DR host as well as a backup.Due to network traffic issues, we had to limit the speed of backups. After looking up the TN, we found that Commvault can be set up the same as QoS using the network throttling function. We understand that this feature will be applied on a policy basis, but we are currently unable to find a place to apply this policy to DRVMs.I'll be waiting for any your comments.Regards
Hello11.28.111We are migrating one of our VmWare clusters to Hyper-V (licensing grounds - Broadcom)We have disk filters traditionally on our DB servers, that also do DB Agent backups, to save backing up the data twiceIn the subclient under Vmware, in the VM Disk Filters, you get a ‘Browse’ option, that allows me to select the SCSI ID of a serverIn the subclient under Hyper-V, no browse exists, just ‘Add’Now I can choose a ‘Virtual device node’, but that doesn’t seem to allow me to choose a client, so I assume this is globalThe other option is ‘Virtual Disk name’, which scares me, as this is why I use the SCSI ID, as my VM guys often move servers around, which would make this break! If anyone has experience and ideas on this subject of what we could do, it would be much appreciatedThanksMark
how to do multiple stream restore of a single VM with 10 disk and sized 10 TB.Does CV 11.28 or later version support multiple stream restore for single VM with multiple disk.
Hey everyone for our VMware environment is it safe to do strictly incrementals and Synthetic Fulls and not do any regular fulls? I see some articles that mention some one way and some the other but just trying to see what everyone recommends
hi guys, i decided, that i move my infrastrucutre backup from veeam to the commvault. i have around 125 VM on VMware cluster ( 5 esx nodes). i the veeam i have a one bakcup job, after sucessfull backup the data is copied to the secondary location and every sunday is full backup (synthetic full) copied to the tape (Quantum Scalar i3 with 2x LTO 8 drives). now i looking for a right way, how to migrate/move to the Commvault. I have already prepared a two physical servers, one is for the commcell and second is for media-agent (direct attached iSCSI 10 GbE 80 TB NTFS and 2x FC 8 GB to tape library. i wanna to some best-practice :) its enought to have one VSA proxy in vmware or is best-practice to have on every esx host the proxy ? from some years ago i know the commcell console, but now is only html5 console ? how to setup the tape jobs and backup copy ? - aux copy its possible to create some tape media pool ? its better to have a one backup job for all vm or separate it for app, app/
How I configure Vmware VSA backup via NBD over backup network? normaly I need NIC pairing between client and MediaAgent to be sure the backup trafic is travelling over backup network, but in this case the ESXi server is delivering the data, how I can do here NIC pairing, as Commvault has only the vCenter server configured?Currently we use proxy server VMs with hot-add, but we want to reduce the VM foot print. We use Vmware and Windows MAs.Commvault version is v11.32.42regards Juergen
