We are migrating VMware VMs to a new NetApp storage array via Storage vMotion. In our current environment we use VMFS datastores. It is our intention to create vVol datastores on the new NetApp storage and migrate from VMFS to vVols. Is there anything we need to know or be aware of as it relates to our Commvault backups? Is there anything we need to change in our Commvault environment or change in our approach to performing Commvault backups? Thank you!

Hello, Everyone.I have a client trying to airgap their data. They have some data currently backing up to tape at an off-site location.I know having a backup offline on tape is a type of airgapping but they are looking to sever communication between the production media agents and DR media agents whenever replication is not ongoing.I know commvault has some scripts and workflows to create these, but i am looking at doing a one-way firewall configuration between the production media agents and dr media agents, using the DR media agents as the source and prod media agents as destination, so that connection can be established from only the remote site. Does that make sense? i would appreciate any advice i could get.

Just to verify.The subjected workflow only exports settings for a stg policy but no action is done on the source commcell. Hence all backups etc.continues to work as before?//Henke

Hello,We want to backup a big Metro Cluster with many volumes and NFS and CIFS shares using the snapdiff feature. We started with default subclient and configured some exclusions of shares where we do not want to create a snapshot. Each share is on a separate volume but we saw that snapshots are created on all volumes even on the volumes with excluded shares.How can we control the behaviour of creating snapshots on backuped shares (volumes) only?Thanks at all.

commvault DB2 Incremental backup is taking high time compared to full backup

Hi, we are looking for an report which reports the backup status of the exchange mailbox v2 agent.  The normal Reports have no informations regardingd the following inforamtions: Skipped mailboxes Failed Mailboxes Completed mailboxes In the java gui only the archive backup juob sum report is working but with non inforamtions. In the command center also no detailed inforamtion.  We need in the daily reporting an info which mailbox did not worked and which has skipped.  Do you know any possibility for this ? 

Hi,I would like to ask on how we can perform recovery of data from our offsite copy. We have CVfailover setup in our environment below are the options we need to perform. From Commcell console in Site A, How to recovery our data form offsite copy which is in a secondary storage of site B? When commserv in Site A went unavailable and the commserv server in site B become  active after successful CVfailover. From commcell in Site B, how to recovery our data from primary and secondary storage in site A? and how to recovery our data from secondary storage in Site B  when commcell servers and storage arrays in Site A a is also unavailable?Refer to the attached photo for the commcell environment. Appreciate a lot to anyone who will provide a response. rolan. 

Hi all, one short question regarding hyper-v data reader and auxcopy to tape.  When i´m using 10 Data readers during the vsa backup job and i would like to copy this job to tape did commvault user 1 Stream because its only one backup job or did commvault use 10 streams for the auxcopy.  As i know for vmware i must take the vsa v2 agent to get multi streams for auxcopy but regarding hyper-v  maybe you can give me an quick hint. Thanks

HI @Emils I am facing same issue with oracle rac agent - where we have three node cluster for a database, if one node is down, the rac agent is not taking the available node for the backup. is there any config need to be changed?

Team,We had an issue with application today when started file-system backup for directory mounted on host. The underlying storage for that directory is an NFS export .We started fil-system backup of specific directory from commvault through an on-demand sub client and observed that log files are started converting to .gz format .Is this something expected behavior when CV backups up lot of small log/bin files with underlying storage as NFS ?  Should i not take file-system backup for NFS through unix idataagent ? Hi all, after applying new license for Azure, there are failing backups with the error - Enterprise backup capacity license is required to run jobs. (For Oracle and VM clients). Before uploading the license there were no such errors.To run the backup it is needed to manually release-reconfigure the client after each backup.Is it possible that new license could somehow overwrite the previous/default one?Is it good idea to reapply the old licence and than investigate why new license is making problems? Cheers!

My Oracle backups are failing, I need to determine why.

Hello Guys,  At the beginning, I would like to say that I wanted to escalate this case to the Commvault suppot, but I do not know if it will not be closed due to the specific behavior of the Commvault system and possible problems with the Oracle database itself. Jobs performed from CommCell Console finish without errors, but errors appear at the Oracle database level. Oracle 11.2.0.4 database on a linux server (Oracle Linux Enterprise 7.9) in the Oracle Grid 18.3 Standalone environment. There were two problems: Restore an Oracle backup to disk (image_001.png)The restore job is running correctly and Commvault saves files to the location specified during the job configuration. The next step is the duplication of the database (contained in the copy on disk) to the target database using the RMAN script, ended with an error (status failed).  oracle@xyz$rman auxiliary /Recovery Manager: R

We are currently implementing SAP HANA Integration backups with Commvault. We have a sub-client each configured for SYSTEMDB and TENANTDB.When backups are triggered via Commvault schedules, the default sub-client for each are used, which then use the correct media agent that have been configured on the sub-client (Righ-click on the sub-client → Properties → Storage Device → Data Paths → Check “Override Data Paths” → Check the required Media Agent).However, we have LOG and CAT backups for HANA triggered by HANA itself and not from Commvault. This causes such backups to not use the default sub-client and are visible as “Logcommand Line” as the sub-client instead of “default”: This causes such jobs to use any media server which is configured for sharing data paths on the Storage policy.How can we force such backup

We had a customer who did not make any changes and all of a sudden their backup size had almost doubled; the backups are configured using Commvault VADP.  We host the VM in a shared VMWARE Cluster for them. I think they added only one addtional VM and the backup size increased in all the VMS The customer was really concerned with this high bill as we bill them on Backup size; I was looking online and found that this could happen due to thick provisioning and disks are not zeroed and running sdelete utility might help. How is this backup size calculated.  I thought if the customer had thin disk provisioning this backup size would be total of what the customer is utilizing however that does not appear to be the case; one of the VM with VM size of 80GB and used size of 40 GB is still showing a backup size of 80GB; so a bit confused; and wondering if we run sdelete would this be resolved or would this reoccur and what caused this issue.  Please see the screen

Is there a calculator (or formula) to estimate the required backup storage capacity for Office 365 Backups (Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online & Teams)?For “normal” backups (File, VMs, Databases) there is such a calculator (Link), but I haven’t found anything regarding Office 365.How do others run such capacity calculations for Office 365? RegardsChris

Hey all We are creating a secondary copy and writing to a combined tier library.  When we create this, do we need 1 bucket or 2?  I only created 1 bucket and specified the combined tiers.  Does an additional bucket get created - or a different folder within the bucket created and that gets changed to Glacier?We are planning on using S3-IA/Glacier for the 2nd copy.I guess I just want more specifics on what exactly happens in this process. ThanksMelissa

hi, Someone knows in which logfile the start of atuomatic schedules is being logged? I mean: we have machines with automatic schedules active (every X minutes, but also based on size),  but the automatic schedule isn’t working anymore [was working before]. I wonder in what logfile that should be logged?
