Hello allI have a bit of a strange question.I have a customer who has a very long user account name in the Database.When configuring the instance, you are limited to 32 characters in the username field using the Java GUI.The Command Centre will allow you the additional characters, but doesn’t seem to allow the connection to take place.We are not able to configure a different account name in the DB at this time so have to try use this long username.Is there a way I can circumvent this limitation?I’m running V11 SP23.Thanks again.

Hi,has anyone experiences with VTL self Deduplication Backup Appliances, like Quantum DXi4800 for Example (smaller Modells ~27 TB)? The deveices are non Deduped backuptargets for commvault. Later Aux-Copy to a physical Tape-Library is performed.I got a Performance Best Practice Guide from Quantum. They said use small cartridge size 50/100 GB (like Ultrium 1) but not how many Tape Deveices in parallel and how this relates in backup and restore performance. To much Tape-Drives maybe slow down the throughput but i have no idea which throughput per drive stream is possible comparred to a physicale tape drive which normaly only receive 100-200mb/s.Would be nice if someone else use this "old"stuff and can explain something in correlation with commvault. My last VTL implementation was 10 years ago.ThanksChristoph

Can any one from legacy can describe about CommVault history. What could be the major version boom the market to place in top Data Protection Tool.  Version <8 → Galaxy Version 8 & 9 →  Simpana Version 10 & 11 →  CommVaultCan give more details about Commvault historical information when these changes happened. (If any above wrong correct it please).

When loading the dashboard through the command center, loads of errors for every field say “Failed to Authenticate Token.” I’m able to authenticate through SSO but the nothing on the dashboard loads through client computer and even when trying through localhost remoting into the Commvault server (different issue). Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know which logs on the Commvault server to look at in order to get a place to start troubleshooting.-Andrew

What is the best practice to backup millions of voice recording with Commvault.

Looking at DR options for AD. Would like to know what Commvault options might be available to restore AD if AD is down?  I’m aware of System state and AD agents but it’s my understanding that if AD is down…. how would the restore work? Many thanks

We are seeing“We're sorry, something went wrong. Please try again. Invalid Username or Password”when trying to access the site. There is no opportunity to enter the password. It goes straight to the error message after entering the username.

Hi Team,Is there any qcommands/scripts available to automatically raise the priority of the ndmp jobs of a filer?We have around 470 volumes that are being backed up for a site which are mostly long running backups. The schedule kicks in on every Tuesday and Friday and our operations team has to ensure that the previous week jobs complete before the new jobs kick in. In this case, they have to manually sort the jobs from previous week and increase the priority.Is there any way this can be automated or a workflow can be created to identify the previous weeks job for that filer and increase the priority?

Hi Alli have a question for the expert's :) we using Metallic Storage for secondary copy.we backup SQL Instance’s there, with T-Log (lot of jobs) and Daily Full.i want to ask if i can somehow to exclude only the T-Log from going to the Second copy.i want only the Daily Full will go to the Auxiliary Metallic Storage.is it possible? (without create a new policy of course). thanks in advance 

Is there any way of improving performance of a file level restore approx 4.5 TB in size .It is approximately taking 26 hours to complete ?Suggest some replication techniques pertaining to this scenario apart from Continuous Data Replication in Commvault .

Is there anyone who would care to speak about (some pros and cons) using Snapshots to preserve Disk Library Mount Paths’s content? Our Storage System provide Snapshots that are read-only—they can’t be altered, overwritten, or deleted directly from Media Agent Servers. We are evaluating the possibility of creating a recovery point every 12 hours using Snapshots as an additional action beyond those described on the following pages.  Mount Paths are essentially File Systems exported via NFS from Storage Systems that don’t support WORM.

Just wanted to get clarity on this matter for our DBA. We have SQL Databases that run full backups every couple of days, with Differentials running the additional days. If i choose to restore the DB out of place, and i choose the date for the differential, do i still need to restore the full from the day before as well? or does this restore both at the same time with the differential and the last full? Thanks

Hello - we are testing full instance restores of EC2 and VMware to EC2.  Both VMs fail with the following error:  Import task failed. Hi,Maybe there is an obvious answer to this.Lets say that a branch office of ours is hit by ransamware. Luckely the local backups are untouched and may be used. But the file server, also acting media agent, and other servers are rendered useless. Further more, in case of a ransomware attack all connectivity to other sites are disconnected.Our commcell is located outside the branchoffice and isn’t reachable.In such a scenario, does that mean that we are prevented from doing a 1-touch recovery of the servers?In my mind I would think we woulden’t be able to restore anything from backups until a connection to our commcell is established.But who knows what Commvault may have up theor sleeve…. :-)BRHenke “Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens”

Team, What could be the reason if Windows VM/Physical Server One Touch Files Failed? Error Code: [6:66] -  Failure Reason: System state backup of component [One Touch Files;] failed [OneTouch Error: Failed to get disk information]. What is system state backup for Linux OS?

I think there are several deduplication-related subjects that require thorough documentation by Commvault.     1.) There is a long-standing recommendation to limit deduplication database disks to TWO PER MEDIA AGENT.’ I was able to track this recommendation as far back as Simpana 9.0, but I’m not sure if it pre-dates that.   This limit feels rather arbitrary, and it doesn’t take into account the performance capabilities of the host platform, or advances in computing kit since the original recommendation was made.   I can’t find any references showing WHY such a limit should exist.In my case, I have three Deduplication disks on my media agents (all NVMe SSD), and that runs with zero issues.  The Media Agents are spec’d over the recommended Extra Large spec, and they don’t even sweat.  I would like to issue a  call to Commvault to really explain why this limitation is in place. While logging traffic to limit the scope of outbound traffic being allowed, we are seeing calls to arsenal.*.vpce.amazonaws.com. Can someone explain how commvault is using this AWS service and what its use case would be? Right now we are only backing up EC2 and RDS.

Hi all,We currently have upgraded to 11.23.21 and currently strategising implementing the new CV Server Backup Plans.  In the meantime, there is a new set of critical servers that can only be backed up when they have been shutdown and absolutely no other software or agents (especially CV agent) can be installed and they can’t be VM snapshotted while online - only when powered off.Apparently this will only happen every 2-3 months when windows updates are installed, and will completed by normal staff members (not CV administrators), so they need access to Commvault and instructions on how to perform a manual backup.So can anyone let me know what would be the easiest, most risk-free way for them to do this in Classic commvault ways or the new Server Backup Plan way please?I’m still learning, so any instructions would be most gratefully accepted.Thanks, DM

Hi, I have a client who is extremely serious about security. Knowing what information is contained in CSDB and following “Trust no one” policy, does not allow for CS database to be send anywhere including Commvault support.There is an option to scrub log files which besides scrubbing logs should also scrub CSDB, but the documentation doesn’t mention what exactly is scrubbed in CS DB.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.23/essential/130818_configuring_data_masking_for_log_files.htmlI’m thinking about, client names, client hostnames, domain names, user names, user passwords, encryption keys and so on. Can anyone share some insight about what data is masked in CSDB?
