One of the things that is going to blow up here in my company soon is some jobs are taking over 24 hours to backup x amount of data. the clients which have huge durations are usually windows or linux file systems with variences of data being backed up from 2 TB to 8 TB+.  My systems and networking department don't like to help unless all evidences point to an actual problem with either the network, or the server itself that is causing the latency of duration. Is there an easy way on commvault’s end to point out that “this client is running at this x GB/Hr, compared to when it was X GB/Hr” and prove that its not the backup software is causing the issue? I know when a active job runs it shows average throughput, and when double clicking on the job id it shows a percentage (Read: X%, Network X%) but I don't know if that's showing the percentage of what's causing the job s duration or what its trying to show. I want to avoid tidious work of going back and forth with my departments on each

Hi.  We have a complicated setup where we are using a Topology Group to send data between Media Agents through a Firewall and Proxy.  Once the data hits the Firewall all data is forced into 2 tunnel ports.In addition to this control we would like to reduce the number of source ports being used so that these can be monitored for backup flow.  Currently using the Dynamic Port Range 49152 and 65535 does not allow us to do this.Is it as simple as forcing all data traffic into the tunnel (8403 by default) and if so will this create a bottleneck.Thanks, Andy

Hello All.A customer is running IBM Netcool for monitoring of current infrastructure and applications. They made mention that Netcool is making use of webhooks to receive alerts and notifications.I am not getting any results around Commvault’s configuration of webhooks.Does anyone have any information if this is available and how to configure it? Much appreciated.Ignes 

We want to upgrade to Windows 2019. Are there any know issues when upgrading operating system to 2019? We are currently using Windows 2012.

Hello Commvault Community, My client after updating to the latest version of HotFix 11.20.53. Client began to observe critical events in Event Report. (screen)The problem is that the event description says about a failed to push Network Configuration attempt for Client - no information about which client. There are more and more events, and we don't know where to look for the problem. Is the problem global and threatens the environment and the jobs working with it? I recommended my client to do DBmaintenence - full, I am waiting for the results. I am asking for help and possible indication of where to look for the cause of the problem / how to solve this problem.ThanksRegardsKamil

Hi there, I have a synchronous copy to tape (aux copy job is scheduled every day). Now, I want only one weekly full backup to be copied to tapes. Is there only way to create new selective copy to achieve that?Am I right, that only changing schedule for synchronous copy from every day to every week can not help - in that case all jobs from the previous week would be copied once a week at a given time ?

If you are in de rare occasion that you implement Hitachi SAN storage in combination with a vSphere Cluster. And you want to integrate this with CommVault Intellisnap and Hitachi Raidmanager/commanddevice.  You might get into troubles when you name your Datastore with a COLON ": “ . Can we copy data from a bad tape to another tape in commvault? or is there a way to copy data from secondary copy tape to primary copy tape if the primary tape goes bad?

Hi,We are in the proces of designing an environment based on VMware VCF with VMware Cloud Director. Customers will consume VMware services and others via Cloud Director hence we are thinking to use the Cloud Director from Commvault as well. Unfortunately I do not have a lab available right now to test it out but was looking for some screenshots/videos to get a better impression on the UX and its capabilities.Competition delivers Cloud Director nowadays based on the extension framework that was introduced some time ago, but I cannot get from the documentation if Commvault is using the same framework. VMware itself states they have an extension that is build by them, not by Commvault is that correct?C o h e s i ty R u b r i k Also curious to hear experience from other Cloud Director customers. We b.t.w. do have experience with the vCenter plugin which is also very disappointing. 

Hi,I’m currently try to create Alibaba hypervisor, but somehow it failed. Error is “Add hypervisor failed. Validate VS credentials failed. Error [100:Unable to connect to Virtual Machine host [default] as user [LTAI4xxxxxxxxxxxx]. Please ensure that the proxy is able to communicate with the host and that the user account and password are correct.]”.Alibaba vendor said that they provide the correct access & secret key. I communicate the proxy from CS using public IP. Is it due to this the proxy try communicate to ECS using public IP hence it failed?Is there any log in commvault that I can check whether it is due to communication or credential?regards,Fauzi

Wondering how can I set a specific time for TRANS logs to expire.   I dont see where I can set a specific RETENTION for the TRANS logs backup schedule.  I notice on a FULL Schedule for SQL or for Windows File systems  when you click the “Advance” button on the bottom of the “Schedule Pattern” tab that there is a “Media” tab on the “Advance backup options” and you can set job retentions etc…   For a TRANS schedule the media Tab doesnt offer that??ThanksBC

Hello, I have some question about application class 1 lincense.  I have installed around 400+ sql  in commvault and if i look to my License summary then i see like 6 sql clients onder te tab Application Class 1. And that not what i want because its using client license.On the sql client i have instal only sql software and after full back i have released license for file system. I do find Mirosoft Sql server on Components in the Application Class Licenses for Application class1. But why another 395 installed sql clients are not listening in license summory onder Application class 1 ? 

Hello community,I am testing a Commserve failover.I have already made a test when there were no firewall and all is ok.Now it is in production and firewall is implemented.There is ON premise site and AWS site connected through direct connect VPNeach site is backuped up locally, it means that actually there is no backup copy from on premise to AWS. I am not sure about the communication and ports used when the commserve DR becomes the master.I think that when the commserve located on AWS become the master, the new commserve should communicates with MA and clients locatedon aws and also on premise Here is a little diagram, any help would be very appreciated.I need somehelp to identify what port to use and what source and destination (bidirectionnal or not) and I will ask the network team to add rules. Thank you !

Hello All,I am about to configure alert for Backup Copy fallen behind.Long story short i would like to have monitoring for the bakcup copies of VSA snapshots.Recently we faced issue with missing synthetic full and broken chain, and after that no backup copy was executed automatically. In order to avoid such delays in the backup copies i would like to setup monitoring for this and if the same issue appear in the future to receive notification.So, i have activated the Backup Copy fallen behind on the storage policies in question: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=106912.htmBut in the alerts tab there is no configured alert for this as it is with “AUX Copy fallen behind”So can someone who configured such alert give me idea what Alert Category & Type have to be set ? Thank you in advance for your time.

Hi..Scenario:Some clients are being re- deployed using Jenkins + Ansible... This re- deployment contains a decoupled install of the CVLT agent.After re- deployment, we need to go to "Client Computers", "New Client", "Unix", then enter the Client Name and Host Name along with "Fetch the configuration from the client that is installed in decoupled mode".What would be the best way to automate this, so one could skip the above steps... ? A couple of our VM clients have failed to delete the snapshot and has locked the snapshot fileQuestion:What Commvault service is responsible for locking the snapshot file on the VM client ?In the past we have just rebooted the VM to delete the Commvault snapshotThe virtual machine reports that it has virtual disks that need consolidation and this could not be performed automatically. In order to prevent a further buildup of delta disks and possible stability issues with the virtual machine, further backups of this virtual machine will not be performed until this condition is corrected. Please check if there are any locks on the virtual disks or if the disks are still attached to a backup proxy. Virtual disk file [[] /-000001.vmdk] is attached to virtual machine []
