Looking for advice or documentation to support changes. Running 11.28.126I need to add slower (cheaper) disk storage to my Commvault backups. I have a DISA Cloud virtual environment and it offers 2 speeds of primary disk. Tire 1 High Performance Tire 2 Moderate performanceTier 1 -~ all Flash/SSD disk drivesTier 2 -~ 7200 RPM Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drivesMy Goal is to add the slower disk to hold about +60% of my backups. Then the Faster disk can be used for the daily backups and quick restores and the slower disk can be used for long term storage (backups older than 7 days) and old archive restores I have a single, all in 1 Commserv/Media agent… server. It currently has 16TB of local storage Disk attached to it in 2TB disk increments (8 storage disks). Only one storage pool. All setup as Spill and Fill.Option A: I see in current documentation that I should use “dedicated storage pools for high-performance disks and slower disks”. Option B: But I also see documentation
Hi I’m trying to use 1Touch restore, and I have the backup set to backup everything, and checked the system state box, but when we go and pick the backup set to restore it gives an error“System State components needed for 1Touch recovery [ Offline Files, Registery, System Protected Files ] are not available in the backups selected……….”The source is Windows 2016, with 3 hard drives, on my backup job (default backupset) in contents I have “\” and checked “Backup System State”.Using commvault version 11.32.63 platform release 2023E Client is at same version.Anything else I need to do to get the system state backed up right? Thanks-Brian
Hi Team,My customer has large oracle DB 100 TB running on AIX power server and attached with Hitachi Storage. The DBs replicating to similar setup with block level replication. They configured the FS backup on replicated server and backing up DB (100 TB) as flat file using AIX FS agent. They restore the entire data to another AIX machine, storage space came from Dell storage on weekly basis. The backup and restore handles by same seventeen-node HSX, the backup is completing by 5+ hours and restore take 25+ hours.Currently we are trying to identify other possibilities to reduce the restoration window. We had an idea to explore IntelliSnap, but I am curious to know is it possible to perform restore snapshot into Dell which was taken from Hitachi? In this scenario, still data needs to travel over the network from source to target storage. Can you suggest if you have any suggestion/input.
Hello,in June vCloud Director 10.6 was released. As per documentation till now 10.5 is supported:https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/vmware_cloud_director_system_requirements.htmlI would be happy to know from Commvault Dev Team if they already working on it ? And is there already a timeline when it could be supported and in which version?Thank you very much in advance.BRMarcel
Hi Folks,Got a question about a primarily Linux Commvault install environmentIf all your Media Agents & VSA's (& COmmServe) are Linux, Do you need a Windows equivalent to a FREL (File Recovery Enabler for Linux)?I know Windows can’t natively read most Linux file systems, but my understanding is that Linux systems generally have native ability to mount/open Windows NTFS. I've also never seen any option for specifying a Windows FREL equivalent in the system
Hello. I am trying to register an AMI that was installed in AWS, but it appears like this with the CS name repeated 3 times and the name was entered only once../commvaultRegistration.sh --------------------------------- Instance001 ---------------------------------[ General ] Version = 11.32.65 Media Revision = 1191 CommServe/Gateway Host Name = xxxxxxxxxxx CommServe Client Name = xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx Home Directory = /opt/commvault/Base Log Directory = /var/log/commvault/Log_Files Core Directory = /opt/commvault Temp Directory = /opt/commvault/Base/Temp Platform Type = 6 Cvd Port Number = 8400
Hello All,We see that Commvaut is using rondom ports on clients as you see below. Commvault listens these prots always not only dıring backup. How to ignore that issue I did configuration on client. But It is still using ramdom ports
In my organization, aside from the Commserve (Windows Server 2019) itself I sometimes use another remote server to launch the Commcell Console. The details of the remote server are: Windows Server 2016 (Version 1607)Java Version: 1.8.0_411 The syntax to launch the Commcell Console from the remote server is:C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c " ""c:\admin\bin\java\commvault\jre\bin\javaws.exe "" c:\admin\bin\galaxy.jnlp" Up until version 11.28.124, launching the application might bring up a Security Warning and a message saying that the certificate is not valid and has expired, but pressing Continue will still launch the application properly on the remove server. But upon upgrading the complex to 11.32.69 and clearing the Java cache several times, attempting to launch the Commcell Console after skipping the certificate warning it now brings a popup error as see in the screenshot with more details in the attachment showing the Launch File, Exception, and Wrapped Exception. Do you know if th
I am currenting running 11.28 I have been running Office 365 / OneDrive backups for quite awhile now. With the Incremental forever methodology it ends up keeping backups far past our corporate retention. I would like to get these old backups to retire at some point. In documentation it mentions that there should be an option for a Synthetic full when starting a backup. I do not get that option. Below is a screen shot from my Command Center with no Synthetic full option Also a screen shot of the documentation. I would appreciate if anyone can reply with screens shots of there Command Center if they have the Synthetic option, and what version of Commvault software they are running.Thank you!
Hi,Running 11.32For DR backup downloads from Metallic \ CV Cloud. How do I change the CS Recovery Manager to a different account ? Can there be multiple CS Recovery Manager?
We make CIFS backups from NetApp ONTAP 9.12 to Commvault using intellisnap. When Commvault starts the backup, it first creates a snapshot, then a clone volume on the snapshot, and finally a cifs share.Unfortunately, this way every file is pulled through the virus scanner, which reduces the performance a lot.Is there a way to prevent Commvault from creating the clone volume and the new share?Surely it should be possible to back up the direct path \\svm\volume\SP_2_snapshot? Then no new share would have to be created. The existing shares have a “writes-only” configuration, i.e. data is not scanned for viruses when it is read. After changing the antiviros on Netapp to writes-only the throughput is 4 times higher. Does anyone know any best practice for this? Thanks and regards,Thomas
Hi all.Can anyone give me details of their config please.I have opened port 5432 between the CV proxies and the RDS instance but do I also need to allow ports 8400-8403 as well? I get this error (just edited out the names and ips)Error Code: [94:13]Description: PostgreSQL Database: [~Connection to Database Failed: connection to server at "x.x.x.x", port 5432 failed: Connection timed out (0x0000274C/10060) Is the server running on that host and accepting TCP/IP connections? ~] Data Backup Failed.Source: myCVproxy, Process: PostGresIfind
Hi ,In Salesforce I just refreshed a fulldev sandbox , does the sandbox has to reconfigured again ? Is there any documentation for this?
Hey folks, I’ve been going through the docs about setting up replication groups, and they mention excluding VMs from backup groups (snapshot VSA backups no intellisnap - its an onprem VMware env) to avoid conflicts. Makes sense, but here’s where I’m stuck—if we exclude VMs from backup groups, don’t we lose the traditional backups we rely on for stuff like accidental deletions or local site restores? Replication is great for DR, but if something happens to the replication setup, wouldn’t we be left with no immediate recovery option since the primary backups are gone? Also, the docs don’t really explain what happens to the primary backup or how to handle retention policies in this case. This recommendation wasn’t in the older versions of the docs (like 11.28); it seems to be a newer thing. Feels a bit vague and concerning, especially for data integrity.Has anyone dealt with this setup before? How do you make sure the primary backups are still covered without breaking the replication pro
Hello teammates,Im looking for Commvault extra reports for o365 and I checked the “Office365 Retention Stats”.I'm trying to figure out what’s the point of this report, as the retention for o365 services are still only infinity! (version 11.34.38). Please for your feedback.Best regards,Nikos
Hi,I am running Commvault with MSSQL, but these backups do not deduplicate; the only savings we get are from compression. None of our MSSQL backups deduplicate at all (+200 DB Clients), we made sure we did not have anything affecting deduplication, like db side encryption etc.If you run a Commvault backup, and then run another one after the previous has finished on a system with no activity, we would expect 99% dedup savings, but instead of that we have between 50% to 70% cause it is only compressing and the new compressed data has new signatures every time. Our workaround is to use VSS, that works as a file backup, The MSSQL backup with VSS enabled deduplicate with almost 99.9% savings doing the same test. VSS also comes with its own problems like slow backup performance and MSSQL with VSS is not considered best practice for Commvault. We have over 200 Commvalt clients with MSSQL, and this happens to all of them, we have all with VSS enabledI opened a ticket in November 2022 and it was
Hello,We set up a new Metallic environment recently. We are backing up Exchange/OneDrive for a small subset of people. I added these people to a Static AD group created in OnPrem AD. Now I realise that a Dynamic AD group would be better. I see that if I convert the Static group to a Dynamic group, all members will be removed. I found that I already have a Dynamic AD group that I can use. Can I start using the Dynamic group instead of the Static group? The screenshot may make more sense.RegardsFergus
I have several VMs that are supposed to be backing up. . . but for whatever reason, the job gets killed. No error message or code (it says, “not applicable). . . No idea why they are getting killed. I’m new to BDR and CommVault, so please talk to me like I”m 5
Hi community, Recently we started using Metallic as our backup solution for our Salesforce. There is a field in Salesforce generated automatically as an external ID. I wonder if there is any possibility to remain the same external ID when doing the restore. I tried the record restore and it seems Salesforce generated a new ID. Thanks.
Hi Commvaulters,I’m having an issue where I keep getting to following entries in the cvfwd logs848 1b54 12/09 17:43:36 ######## CN:00024 [local->Commvault:cvd] ERROR: Client connection to Commvault failed on : Couldn't complete tunnel connection to on 192.168.252.245:8403: The semaphore timeout period has expired.5848 1b54 12/09 17:43:36 ######## CN:00023 [local->Commvault:cvd] ERROR: Client connection to Commvault failed on Couldn't complete tunnel connection to on 192.168.252.245:8403: The semaphore timeout period has expired. It has worked, but recently added some Sql agents, and then the tunnel dropped shortly afterwards. I have attempted to recreate all the network rules again, but still receive this message on the client, and check readiness fail.Flow of traffic is Commserve > core proxies > media agent > customer proxy > Customer client server with file/SQL agents installed.Any ideas anyone? Thanks

Hello! Is there anything new going on with Microsoft and throttling? We are on 11.32.23 and we are getting the throttling message on individuals’ mail boxes.Been seeingThrottling from Office 365. Failed to process mailbox due to [EWS Error in enumeratings folders. Reason: Too many concurrent connections opened., Cannot open mailboxon several Exchange Online jobs lately. We have been following this:Best Practices for Exchange Online (commvault.com)We are using 10 streams on all our customers’ Exchange online backup config.Did Microsoft bandwidth become more restricted?I will lower one customer to 7 streams now, just to see what happens. But please let me know if there are any known issues or changes done on MS side.
Hi Team,I am seeing the below contents of the bucket inside a pool, apart from the data job of a VM backup to S3 Object cloud library. Can somebody please explain what all they would be ? Big Data apps and Index data ?
Hi, where can I find information about what user is connected metallic backup from 365?
Hi,We are running standard streaming backups (configured in Command Center) for virtual machines. We have 3 backup copy destinations for virtual machines:primary site - disks primary site - tapes (monthly fulls) - extended retention secondary site - disksWe would like to configure and run Disaster Recovery and Replication jobs for some of our protected virtual machines to replicate them from primary site and create replica in secondary site. We would like to run this as periodic(daily) replication with VM - hot site type. What is a best practice in scenario, where we need traditional backup and also replica in secondary site? Only DR and replication jobs with longer retention or coexistence of backup and DR and replication jobs in the same time? regards,Przemek
