Hi All, Yesterday, we saw that the metadata database created by Optimize Scan on one of our servers filled the disk. So we stopped this by adding the "nStartDataClassifier" key. However, our disk is still full and we are looking for a way to delete or shrink this metadata database. Or is there a way to reclaim the space occupied by the metadata database?Anyone have information about it?https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/18464_file_scan_methods_for_windows_file_system_agent.html#optimized-scan-metadata-database Best Regards.
We want to keep yearly tape backups for an infinite amount of time, but the year should not start at 1st january, but 1st march. For daily, weekly and monthly I can choose, when the day, week or month is starting. But I cannot choose when the year should start. Is this not possible? I do not want a yearly backup at the time of 1st january, but 1-2 months later. We also have monthly full backups, which we keep for half a year. Should I just retain one from them as infinite manually? Thanks!
Hi Team,Do we have an API to download audit trail report data in json format? Can you please send it along with syntax.
I have an existing Schedule Policy which under its Backup Task Options, there is a check box that allows Run Incremental Backup under the Synthetic Full radio button when selected. I would like to create a similar Schedule Policy with the same Run Incremental Backup option. But when Editing the Tasks for its Backup Option, I don’t see the Run Incremental Backup check box option. The diagram shows the Existing Schedule Policy which has the option at the top, and the newly created Schedule Policy which does not provide that option at the bottom. I suppose a workaround is for me to create a clone of the existing schedule policy and make the adjustments. But I would still like to know what is involved when creating a new Schedule Policy to have the Run Incremental Backup option on Synthetic Full backup options.
Hello all, Our DBAs are testing a disaster scenario where only Commvault would be available for restore and my question to you is if there is a query i can make to Commvault to give me the last control file backup piece available of a db.I know you can check this on the job details, but is there a way i can see this from a command line?Thank you Kind regards,João Amaral
Customer would like to know if there is a configuration in ServiceNow or in CV that when a large-scale event occurs that causes backup failure across the board (network outage, etc.) that will prevent 100’s of tickets being created in Service Now due to this one occurence?Obviously 100’s of jobs would be affected, but would it be smart enough to limit to one ticket?
Hi, we’re going through our VM backups in regards to the VMs that fail to quiesce during snapshot operation. We can see a pattern where many of these VMs are running some Apache or IIS webserver.I’m wondering if that might be due the webserver are running some kind of database that might be causing the issues? Maybe like SQL express or MySQL.For regular and full blown SQL servers we disable the “SQL Server VSS writer” to stop the snapshot interfering with the SQL log backup chain and that normally solves the quiescing issue.Anyone that has some insight to this perhaps? I would like to avoid using agent backup if possible.
This may be a case of the Mondays, but I cannot find the “Growth and Trends” report in my Commvault web console.I am logged in as a CV admin. We are running 11.25. The documentation here (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.25/essential/38609_viewing_growth_and_trends_report_on_web_console.html) says, from the Reports screen, click on “Growth and Trends”. I do not have that.Private metrics reporting is enabled - I have many other reports, but of course not this one. When I search on “growth”, I only get Media Management → Tape Media Growth and Trends.Thanks.
Hello, If our system team have changed a VM or its DNS (host) name which is already in backup is that VM’s corresponding client name, display name and hostname will automatically get changed in our Commvault GUI not? Thanks
We have metallic cloud capacity licence for 170Tb. Our backups stopped working Following update to 11.28. It turns out following the update our usage was recalculated and we are now told we have used 300Tbs - 176% over our licence. Support say the update fixed a bug in the way the space was calculated. How can this be the case. We are left in a position that our backups currently aren't running. We need to purchase substantislly more capacity which we haven't budgeted for. The process for acquiring the new licence seems to take days which leaves us with no way to back up our data currently
hello all,Unfortunately it is not possible to restore a HANA DB via Commvault to a specific point in time as long as this point in time is younger than the last log backup. Everything older works. It looks like CV deletes / overwrites the newest logs.CV Version: 11.28.36 "restore catalog from time" is activated. Without activating this no restore at all was possible Best regards Frank
Hi experts, A customer wants to back up the existing object storage(Hitachi HCP - S3 compat) but I’m not sure if HCP can be configured as a backup source. In this BOL, seems Amazon S3, Azure Blob are supported as a data protection source.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/essential/118899_backing_up_amazon_s3_content_groups.htmlBut no guidance for the others including HCP.Recently our engineer failed to configure the HCP as a backup source. (it worked well as a backup target)I want to get the confirmation if this is supported or not. Thanks.
HiI’d like to ‘guarantee’ a Full copy of the V2 Index Database at a time just after the end of month full backups have run/completedThe purpose being to send the End of Month Full backups to a specific ‘box’ of tapes, that are sent to Iron Mountain, but within that Box is a standalone Index Database backupMainly to achieve a standalone ‘DR’ set of tapes, with no requirement to have any ‘copies’ of the Index Database on disk or any requirement to reconstruct the index ‘from tape’Can I manually ‘force’ this to then get a ‘complete’ Index Database, which is then sent to Tape
i try to insert [Impersonate User] I checked user name, password, server roles. but The same error is repeated What sholud i do next step?
Hi Community,When looking to utilize Cloud Power Management on Media Agents (in this case AWS), is there any considerations when looking to deploy 2 x node partitioned DDB Configuration? I am trying to determine if there would be a situation where Power Management would power down one of the MA’s leaving only 1 x partition available causing additional bloat to the DDB and more data getting written to the Cloud Library? I would assume that they would be treated as a pair and either both MA’s would be on or off but not sure how the logic works? Can’t find any information in Books Online so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
we’have facing a issue during vxrail snapshot copy backup but showing below mention error:“enabled when snapshots are present] Source”How to fix this error , pls suggest
We have a media agent that had it’s mount path on a qnap that needed to be sent out for repairs. In the meantime, we were lent another device with 2 shared drives. Now, the qnap is back but everything was wipped out, so a new share was created and added as a new library on the MA. A new DDB was created for this new library and were trying to do an aux copy from the temporary library to eventually delete the temp one. Any take on that? thank you
Hi,We have a grid where the index drives have utilization. The grid has 10+ storage policies with servers running OS backup.I would like to try and define a process where we move 1 or more storage policy to another grid to stop the index cache growth. Is there an overview somewhere (maybe report) that give give info about the actual index cache footprint for each storage policy?Because then I hope we would be able to look at the different index cache sizes of the storage policies and then based on that decide which storage policy we need to move to another grid.Thanks.
An year back, when we started to roll out Windows File servers (large numbers of file & folders) with native deduplication enabled, a lot of study was done to analyze the most compatible scan & we started using the “optimized scan” as the best method However, since we upgraded the Clients to SP11.25.xx we started to see the below alert on the successfully completed backups. Going through the log files, the optimized scan is auto changed by Commvault to recursive scan. “Some Scan content is part of NTFS Deduplicated volume<br>Source: xxxxxx, Process: JobManager” Would like to learn the best recommended scan method that supports Windows native deduplication enabled volumes. This is to ensure we have scan phase complete faster, no unmodified files are backed up.
Currently we have Commvault clustering servers and Cloud library(S3 bucket) in AWS Account A, how to move whole Commvault backup environemnt to AWS Acoount B?
My X server is in A subscription and VSA, MA & Storage account is in B subscription [The X server is backed up with B subscription resources] so would like to know if there are any alternative ways to perform the in-place restoration without creating a new storage account on A subscription and want to my B subscription storage account even for the in-place restoration.
Hi All, I would like to know whether it is useful to enable Commvault WORM when there is a Storage Worm (Hardware) enabled or not?Is Storage hardware worm enough to protect the data? Also, when deleting a job from Commvault, does the Hardware WORM prevent you from doing it? Thanks & Regards
Hi Team,I am not able to access apiexplorer from my commvault account. After a hardware refresh of the CommServe, we deployed a new Web Server to use it as our main web console/Command Center. We are able to use the new server’s URL for the web console, but it does’nt work for the AdminConsole/Command Center, we get a 404 error Not Found. The Command Center actually works if we enter the CommServe URL manually, but not with the new Web Server’s URL.We tried to force the new Web Server’s URL on the CommServe object using the additional setting WebConsoleURL/CommServeDB.GxGlobalParam, but the Command Center is still unavailable. TomCat and IIS were restarted, on the CommServe and the new Web Server, but the Command Center will only work with the CommServe URL.Anyone had a similar problem or have suggestions?
