Self-Hosted Q&A

So we started migrating vms from vmware cluster 1 with nutanix storage  to pure cluster 2 with purestorage, about 1000 vms: we have intellisnap on both. The diffrnece is we have 50 datastore in nutanix vs 10 on pure, we have configured the job one subclient per lun, the proxies were in nutanix platform but I migrated few to pure, although the controller proxy still in Nutanix, however we seem to be having issues during the first phase when cv proxy requests a vmware snapshot of the vms..it was working all fine however as per the patching process we keep the snapshot on some vms overnight.  My understanding was as long as the networking among proxies does not change atleast the first phase should go smoothly without any load issue irrespective of where the proxies are located either in nutanix or pure cluster...it appears the request to create a vmware snapshot taking too long..we are using the same set of proxies...

We have a standard patching process wherein we take a snapshot and leave the server running and then the snapshots are committed the next day just as a fail safe ; from what I understand this process should not be used to patch Commvault windows proxies as could have issues during the backup copy process (we use intellisnap; like hot-add)

Dear Support Team, One of the my customer having 4 servers vmware ESXi host and its booting from SAN storage. Is there any option can we take entire ESXi host image backup and restore into new IBM storage. Regards,Mani D

Im planning to upgrade our Commserver from Commvault v11.32 to v11.36.  I was reading the document and it says since v11.36 comes with SQL 2022 you need to manually uninstall the SQL ( which technically means uninstall everything including the Commvault modules etc ) and reinstall . Is there a more seamless and supported way on doing this?  Seems like Commvault has drop the ball in this process. Use to be able to keep existing version etc.

Hello Community!I would like to ask you guys if maybe someone have similar issue with Exchange DAG restores as we have in one of the environment. The case is not a fresh one, i had a ticket for around a year in commvault - but they did not find the solution. At the end they recommended (we suggested it and they agreed) to enable “Perform Consistency Check” on the exchange backup schedules. We did it few weeks ago, and now we tried to test restores, but we still see the same issues at the end of the restore process. The issue is not easy to troubleshoot, because databases are big (around 1TB each) and restore process is failing at the very end. It restores around 1 TB of data, and failing with the error:“EventLog[ID=519(0x207)@108527931297102]: msexchangerepl (11780,D,100,15.02.1544.011) Logfile Integrity-Check D:\EXDB\EX19DB-MN\E11: The range of log files D:\EXDB\EX19DB-MN\E11007E546B.log to D:\EXDB\EX19DB-MN\E11007E54B4.log is missing (error -528) and cannot be used. Dear ExpertsWe are trying to Restore Db2 Database to different Server ( Restore to Disk ), Media Read Performance is very low and Opened case with Commvault 250310-318. Media management team checked and confirmed no issues from environment side as we are getting Good read/write throughput.  and CV tests are Passed. We tested FS restore, which gave Good throughput and DB2 Restore still having issues. Any Suggestions & inputs why Media Read performance is too low…, and why Slowness is occurring ?  Logs :- CVPerfMgrRestore.logBuffer allocation.   10               71598458808  [66.68 GB]  [Samples - 1000] [Avg - 0.010000] [24005.25 GBPH]Restore READ....     46134            47919623679  [44.63 GB]  [Samples - 1000] [Avg - 46.134000] [3.48 GBPH]Restore Write        37               67427635200  [62.80 GB]  [Samples - 3003125760] [Avg - 0.000000] [6109.97 GBPH] Buffer allocation    12               77939519544  [72.59 GB]  [Samples - 1000] [Avg - 0.012000] [21776.05 GBPH]Restore READ....

Hi Folks Im having an issue, with sharepoint backups, I keep getting the error Failed to impersonate with user: CommvaultSP when it tries to access the shared job directory.I’ve checked all the permissions as they should be and that account has full control over that directory Commvault version 11.36.46Any pointers in the correct direction would be welcomed!

We are preparing to implement a new Commvault environment and the tenants will be responsible for installing the client to their systems. As such, we would like an alert when a new client has been registered so we can associate it to the appropriate groups/plans/storage policy etc. So far as I can tell, such a thing does not exist. I would love input on how to best go about this. Thank you.

Hi Team,Some question on salesforce data protection through Commvault  How does the CV licensing model apply to Salesforce? Which Salesforce entity serves as the basis for CV licenses? Does CV support both capacity-based and agent-based licensing models for Salesforce protection? Is it necessary to use Commvault Cloud/Metallic SaaS, or can an in-house Commvault deployment on a physical server or VM also be used for Salesforce protection?

Hello team,The task: Test a subclient backup, but not immediately but at a time specified by the customer. The basis is a PLAN to which hundreds of clients are assigned, so it should not be changed completely. In addition to the plan schedules, I have also found the option of starting a backup immediately. The possibility to schedule this backup as a one-time backup is missing Commcell console is unfortunately no longer an option for new customers. https://kb.commvault.com/article/82051Can you help or do I have to set an alarm clock in the future to test a backup?

Hi I have added the instance server with a subclient database. When snap management is enabled in the subclient, it does not detect the Array—Nimble. I have checked the passkeys.Array is not detected even after adding the array in snapshot management box

Hello everyone, our DBAs are currently in the process of consolidating our Oracle databases onto new ODAs.These have HA capabilities with two nodes each and shared storage underneath. We already have a single node ODA for a while and we are doing regular Oracle agent backups on it.For the new HA ODAs the plan is to set up databases on fixed nodes and only switch to another node in case of an issue. So under normal circumstances backups will be just fine running directly from the node associated with the database. I was wondering if there is any possibility to set up this kind of HA inside Commvault? As far as I understand from my DBAs Oracle RAC is working a bit different with active-active configurations and is therefore not a suitable solution in our case. Maybe someone has a similar setup to share their experience with ODAs? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Dear Vaulters,Need your support. nowadays we are moving vm backup from tape to HSX and some how index restore jobs initiated trying to restore big data apps backup from exported tapes which led these jobs to fail. One More thing: The initiated jobs are for the old SP index server not the new one.  In your point of view what can be the root cause for this?BR

Hello community,I want to move all the associated media from one old tape library to exported media in new tape library Do you know how can I do that with script or command ( maybe in qoperation)  Thanks!

Hi everyone,One of our customers have recently upgraded their licenses to suscription model. All clear till that point. The thing is that also the are changing all the Commcell infraestructure (Commserve VM, MediaAgents and DiskLibraries). And due to this Commvault was installed on 2009 we have decided to perform a completely fresh install of the Backup environment using the new hardware and the existing licenses. We are not planning to migrate backup JOBs, old (current) Commcell will be just used for restore purposes of historical data, we will keep the VM a physical MA and a Tape Robot on old environment to perfom those historical restore. The question is: Can we use the same CCID & and license file on the new environment. In case not do you know what’s the proccedure to perform this change so we can move the suscription license to the new environment and let the old one (current) whitout licenses&support.I have checked the following KB of the documentation but none of the expl
