Hello Community Members. We are using Commvault IntelliSnap with Infinidat storage. Everything works fine except the device cleanup on the Linux hosts. Most of the hosts are getting alerts for path failure and IO errors at the end of the IntelliSnap backup while the unmap and device cleanup is performed. We did check the difference between the servers which are not alerting, and which are alerting. The main difference we can see in the IntelliSnap log is about “ISHDM IntelliSnap Linux Host Device Manager”. But I can’t get any explanation about ISHDM on Commvault site or on RedHat. Can you guys help me to understand what does this value /settings does better than normal “classic OS utility interface” If the above setting is not related to IO error/ path error / device cleanup, please let me know if someone experienced these types of issues on Linux hosts while performing IntelliSnap backup. Logs found on the server with no IO error / path error. 3724588 38d52c 09/04 19:45:21 1701177
Hello Community,Recently, we connected an FC HBA 3660 StoreOnce appliance to our Commvault v11.32 backup server. The catalyst store on the StoreOnce is configured for low bandwidth, meaning the backup server (media agent) performs deduplication and compression, sending only new data to the StoreOnce. We have created a storage pool that uses StoreOnce as the backup target, followed by a storage policy based on the StoreOnce storage pool. However, it appears that Commvault, by default, disables deduplication and compression on the storage policy.Could anyone advise on how we can enable the deduplication and compression? As StoreOnce is configured for low bandwidth, we want the backup server (media agent) to handle deduplication and compression, rather than StoreOnce.Thank you,
Backup Type: Virtualization VMwareProxy: VSA WindowsStorage: Dell Data Domain Client LibraryQuestion: Customer would like to use the client (VSA) direct mode (storage accelerator) backups for VMware virtual machine backups. The CS, MA and VSA are in same subnet and the VSA has direct connectivity to DD Boost Client Library.
When I use WORM-enabled storage policy to backup a file. I can see from the Object store logs that the PUT requests include partNumber and uploadID. See the example below.PUT /2.6wormtest/Z5YO4V_09.06.2024_10.43/CV_MAGNETIC/V_342/CHUNK_1294/SFILE_CONTAINER_020?partNumber=1&uploadId=7ffffe6e38ff88e4 HTTP/1.1When using a NONWORM policy to backup the same file, the received PUT request does not include the partNumber or uploadID. See the example below.PUT /windowsnonworm/1DWYIV_09.11.2024_10.49/CV_MAGNETIC/V_8220/CHUNK_84999/SFILE_CONTAINER_001.FOLDER/0 HTTP/1.1" 200My question is, does Commvault not employ multipart upload during a backup with the standard (WORM disabled) policy?
I have a bunch of data in a very end of support tape library. I need to get it out of teh tape library and into somewhere else. If I configure an HPE Storeonce library and use that as an auxcopy target will the storeonce be able to deduplicate the data coming off tape? I’m unfamilair with Catalyst - and I vaguely recall that in an aux copy scenario chunks are moved from place to place without any actual processing that might be required for catalyst/dedupe processing.
Hello,I have a I have a small customer who has a secondary media agent that receives aux copy. its DDB size is over 2,5 TB.What is commvault recommendations about that?We plan to perform a hardware refresh of the Media agent maybe be I can reduce the DDB size during this operation ?Thanks !
Hi. for this KB https://documentation.commvault.com/11.16/configuring_space_check_for_software_installation_and_system_directories.html Do I have to configure this for each client? Doesn’t seem to work at the Commcell level. Maybe at the group level?
Hi Guys,I know this type of error has already a solution, which is either to suspend and resume the job or to run a verification job data, but both have not worked. Does anybody else have any suggestions ?Error message : Error Code [12:138] Description : Error occurred while processing chunk [XXX] in media [XXX], at the time of error in library [XXX] and mount path [[XXX] E:\MAGLIB\SATA15], for storage policy [XXX] copy [XXX] MediaAgent [XXX]: Backup Job [XXX]. The parameter used for the current operation is not supported by the Operating ssytem, OD Drivers or the underlying Hardware. Source: [XXX], Process: [XXX] .
Hi All,I am checking my DDB’s in Commvault and for VM and DB backups i am getting 17% and 40-50% DDB savings respectively. Please let me know what can be the reason i am getting very less DDB saving and from were i should start troubleshooting. If possible provide troubleshooting steps. Regards,Rahul
We currently have a 3 node Powerstore cluster deployed and we are looking to leverage the internal Powerstore cluster data migration to move a volume and all of the volume snapshots between arrays in the Powerstore cluster. As these snapshots were taking by CV IntelliSnap and not committed to the Isilon were we keep backups yet can we still go ahead with the migration and well not break anything?I can’t find anything in the documentation that can support this question either way, but any feedback would be awesome!
Hi Team, From what I can see in the document, in the Commvault FR20 version, it is possible to discover NAS systems live and get a report. However, I think this feature is obsolete. Is there a feature that can discover NAS systems live and provide a report with the 11.32 version? https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/nas_system_discovery_report.html
I have a customer who has excess Hadoop capacity that they would like to use for a long term storage target. I saw the below link on BOL that caught my attention as a possible solution, but I think this is just using commvault to orchestrate movement of data already in Hadoop to cold tiers within Hadoop, is that right? They would like to setup Hadoop to be a disk library for capturing that long term data, can we do that? https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/hadoop_tiering_using_hybrid_file_store.html
We have a situation whereby we have some critical content which was pruned from other storage leaving only aged jobs on tape. I’ve been watching the catalog job run for 15 hours and the filemarker is only at 3260 (according to the CVMA.log) and if one can believe this - the end FM of the tape is 139,947,214,372,864 (at least that is what it says at the top of the TapeCatalog.log. Clearly this is a non-starter. The throughput for the last hour(s) is 0MB/s. So, is the FileMarker number real and if so, how could this possibly be a valid solution anymore? Maybe back in the DLT days, sure. Or am I misreading? Support has said there’s no way to estimate completion or progress. The CCM method as suggested in other posts as well as support seems like a possible way, but, I also read that barcodes cannot be the same in source and dest commcells, so then what? And can I choose to simply export or import the metadata specific to this media or set of media? Any suggestions other than waiting an
Hi all,I’m setting up a Synology NAS as a backup repository in a vSAN environment with Commvault. I need advice on the best protocol to use (iSCSI, CIFS, or NFS) for optimal performance and reliability. What are the best practices for configuring the NAS in this setup?Any recommendations would be appreciated.
What is included in the Data Written (TB) figure? Is it only primary copy data written or does it include secondary and third copy also? I know it is already the deduplicated figure that is represented
Currently, I'm using Commvault V11 SP16. I'd like to know if I can enable the Immutable feature with this version.Does the team have a compatibility document for Commvault versions and their features?
Hello, new install here, needed to make a change on a Cloud Storage (HPE StoreOnce), and needed to recreate the catalyst store. I’ve deleted everything, but now from command center (11.34) I says when recreating the CLOUD Storage is already created. the commvault documentation only refers to commcell operation, but this is strange because commcell is not available on 11.34 https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/expert/deleting_backup_or_archive_storage_policy.html ERRO: Failed to create the Storage Policy [NAME_OF_STORAGE_POLICY]. A Storage Policy with the same name already exists any help will be much appreciated regards
We have the Only Backup Files created or modified on and after option setup for a few servers. One of our servers is very large video images from our camera system. It takes up a large amount of our CV Capacity license. After 90 days we no longer care about files older than that. I have the Only Backup Files setting set to 90 days from the current date. The problem is I would need to go in and change that every day to stop it from backing up those older files. I understand that its not really backing them up however it does count towards our capacity which is very high and we are trying to trim the fat. My question is can I somehow set that to a date that is always 90 days from the current date when it goes to back up that server each night, or do I have to go in every day and update that date manually? Thanks for any help.
I rebooted two media agents in my environment and after that, I have DDB verification jobs failing. The error points to mount paths not accessible but all mount paths are online and ready. There are no network blocks. The connectivity between CV and the storage pool is up. The media agents can communicate with CommVault. Backup jobs are running with no issues. Only the DDB verification jobs are failing. The media agents involved are the ones I rebooted
If we back up a new server one time and let's say it is 15 TB. We then release the license for said server, how long does it take for that for that 15 TB to return to the license? Is it based of the data aging jobs that run, or is there a certain number of cycles Commvault goes through to make sure the 15 TB is never going to come back?
Hi All,One small query, generally during VM based backup, commvault creates disk snapshot in azure - OS disk snapshot. Is it possible to create VM directly from the Azure portal using commvault created OS disk snapshot - likecreating disk from that commvault snapshot and build VM using the new created disk.is this approach feasible, or can it be restored using commvault tool only.
Hi All,I'm trying to do MSSQL backup. The database size is 450TB.Our disklibrary is HPE StoreOnce catalyst. Some time after running the job, the backup job fails to complete due to "Media Write Operation Failure-HP StoreOnce Media-Error writing to media".What is causing this problem?
I’m trying to launch a backup copy manually for testing purposes but it fails with the following error. Here is the log produced by this attempt.@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@Machine : comcellmachineFile : JobManager.log@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@2908 22f8 05/22 15:25:28 3075603 Servant [---- IMMEDIATE BACKUP COPY WORKFLOW request ----], taskid [49503], SP [samplepolicy]2908 22f8 05/22 15:25:28 3075603 Database No jobs to be materialized, ret = 2202908 22f8 05/22 15:25:28 3075603 JMGUIReport2::sendJobCompleted Sent job completed message to GUI.Launching an auxiliary copy works ok. Snaps are created on source and destination Netapp filers (using openreplication). We are running Commvault version 11.32.45.
HiWe have configured out DDB to spread across 4 Windows virtual machines. Out of 4 VMs we have lost access to 2 VMs. Backups are running as expected by using the remaining 2 VMs with DDB on that. Now we have freshly built new 2 VMs with Media Agent application components installed. My question is, how we can recover the DDB fragments which hosted on two lost VMs ? Is there a way to reconstruct the lost sections on to newly built 2 VMs ?We are on version 11.28.(2022 E).Appreciate your advise. Please feel free to ask any questions if you need further clarifications. Many thanks in advance.
Hi All.Can someone please explain how data aging functions on an Indexing job?Referring to "https://community.commvault.com/self-hosted-q-a-2/why-are-index-server-jobs-agent-type-big-data-apps-being-retained-on-storage-longer-than-the-storage-policy-indicates-5132".I have a storage policy with several copies to different libraries. This is a mix of disk, S3 and S3 with Object Lock enabled. There are several Indexing Jobs which reside on the S3 library with Object Lock enabled but the dependent backup jobs are located on a different selective copy. Is there a way to have the Indexing jobs kept with the backup jobs or is this by design? The issue here is that the Object Lock enabled library is configured with 90 days retention and the other S3 library is configured with long-term retention varying between 365 days to 1825 days. The above behaviour is preventing the sealed DDBs from being removed when all backup jobs have met retention as the Indexing jobs are retained.I have seen the inform
