I have backup data with a retention of one month; what will happen to my backup data or what is the next procedure to bear in mind or take into consideration, if my retention is ending or about to end?
We have a media agent with low disk space alerts going off (on the OS disk), all the usual suspects only returned a few GB of free space. After analyzing the media agent’s OS disk, the JobResults folder is 192GB (55.2GB on disk), one of the largest offenders. Can this folder safely be relocated to give it some more breathing room? This seems to mention clients however at the same time does not mention media agents. If I move the JobResults location, will it potentially nuke the media agent and all jobs/indexes too?https://documentation.commvault.com/11.21/expert/6588_changing_path_of_job_results_directory.htmlThanks everyone!
Hi Folks, I have a customer with Ex Server and ExArchiving in place who started migrating EXMB to ExangeOnline. Stubrecall works after MailBox migration to ExOnline. Question is, is there an elegant way to recall all the messages from the Archiv into the ExOnline Mailboxes?Any hint is very appreciatedThanksThomas
So these deployments have been a real hassle won’t get into previous details but the current one hsxsetup wizard will not finish forming a storage pool. Main difference with this one is we used a known service account and password to authenticate with the Commserve instead of the code method in Command Center(account has Master permissions and more on the Commserve) Logs say the account is not an issue and according to Commvault the cluster is formed(3 nodes) and the nodes are registered in the Commserve as MA’s(they have duplicate dedup engines but Commvault tells me this is normal. You can see this from the Commserve you can also see an offline storage pool in the library with no delineated volume information and an error message on the properties saying the setup has not completed. The Commvault Engineer has been loathe to recommend running a cleanup as he feels it would leave things behind they would have to walk me though manually. This case has been with Development for more than
Dumb Question, but I don't want to have to have my systems team argle bargle. Media Agents have to be physical servers, correct? I am assuming there shouldn't be a reason why it cannot be a virtual machine, but before I put my foot in my mouth (tasty btw) I want to see what the community best practice is.
Hello Commvault, we have been working with Commvault and Catalys HPE for 2 months since before we used Data Protector from Microfocus and Veeam. At first the performance was incredible but as the backups continued we noticed that the backup and restore speed dropped noticeably, reaching the point of restoring VMware VMs over SAN at a speed of 50GB/hour which is extremely slow. I reviewed the documentation provided by Commvault and also by HPE and the only strange thing I noticed is that the number of objects we had in the catalys stores when we used Data Protect or Veeam were from 2000 to 5000 and now with Commvault their stores store more of 40,000 objects and this does not affect the performance. I see that 30% are index objects that run at 1 pm. Please have any suggestions and if you have had a similar problem before.

Hi,for about a week we have a problem with our O365 Exchange backup. It runs instead of about 4 Minutes without error now over 3 hours with errors. We get the following error messages:Failed to process mailbox [Mailbox does not exist]Failed to process mailbox [Too many concurrent connections opened, Cannot open mailbox. Server = BEZP281M…...]According to the joblog will be Exchange only setup detected with no public folder association. The Access-Node is a Windows Server 2019 with PowerShell 5.1use modern authentication is enabled5 Azure Apps configured10 max streams configuredCommvault Version 11.28.80Does anyone have any idea how i can solve the problem?RegardsFranz
I think the answer’s probably no, but I feel like I need to ask this anyway:We recently discovered that a content filter was missed on one subclient while configuring the Commvault agent on a database server, which caused the file system agent to back up an extra ~1.5TB of non-deduped data nightly for several months. New nightly backups shrank considerably after we caught the oversight and set the appropriate filter, but not before Commvault wrote around 120TB of redundant Oracle database backups to disk that won’t begin to age out until sometime next year.I know we can go in and manually expire those jobs to immediately free up space on our long term storage, but is there a way to apply the content filter to that subclient retroactively so that we can expire the just the 120TB or so that should have been excluded from the start, while keeping everything else?
Here is a problem we are having with media agents at one location. We are seeing backups and restores with wildly different performance for any gateway installed on a Nutanix cluster. An adjacent older VMware cluster has no problems. The two clusters share the same 1G Internet pipe at a colo. We have another Nutanix cluster at a different location that has pretty decent performance consistently. We cannot find any one thing that might explain the behavior, and the poor and inconsistent performance makes managing the platform very difficult at that site. We would like to understand why the gateway running on the older cluster (HPE servers and EMC storage) which runs on 1G interconnects, is orders of magnitude faster than some of the gateways running the new Nutanix cluster (HPE DX-380’s) with 10G interconnects. Running ordinary uploads and downloads on any of the Nutanix-hosted gateways is fast, as expected. So, it doesn’t seem to be Internet, or hardware related. It smells as
Some of our sites are failing during backup with the following errors “http://oursite/whatever FAILED There is not enough space on the disk.” I am not sure what disk they are talking about that is out of space. I checked the server our sharepoint sits on and it seems like we have more than enough space on the Disk. Anyone seen this issue before? I wanted to ask here before i opened up a ticket. Also our Sharepoint is inhouse we are not on 365 yet. Thanks for any pointers.
Hello All,Greetings for the day!We have running Physical windows cluster with commvault 11:24:116 version. The issue is during the SQL upgrade from the full media kit only active got upgraded from 2104 to 2016 but passive node still in 2014. Please share steps for manual upgrade on passive node. Step1: Take the export Dump from SQL and DR backup from CVStep2: Run the Select @@version on active node to collect the SQL version and SPStep3: Download the SQL binaryStep4: Execute the setup.exe for upgradeStep5: Test Fail over from active into passiveRegardsRobert
Hello,we have configured O365 mailbackups to one of our virtual machine disks which would be almost full in few weeks from now.We don’t want to shorten retention period (it’s 1 year and its our policy to keep it this long) so we would like to ask if its possible to somehow distribute/divide backups to separate disks? Or easiest way would be to attach new disk and reconfigure backup location (backup destination in plan settings)?
Hi,is there any plans to support vSphere 8 Update 1 ? I can see in documentation that only vSphere 8 is supported. Regards,Lukas
What is changing in this enhancement?Metallic has optimized the backup configuration of your on-prem workloads by hosting the deduplication cache on backup gateway i.e., near the workload, to significantly reduce network calls to the Metallic control plane to retrieve deduplication information and thereby improve performance of backup operations.Important Note This change is only applicable to new on-prem workloads onboarded in Metallic after Aug 25. Existing workload already protected in Metallic will continue to operate as before.Which workloads does this enhancement apply to?This enhancement is applicable only to on-prem workloads protected using your own Azure storage (BYOS) or Metallic Recovery Reserve in Azure. How does this change impact my on-prem workloads onboarded in Metallic Prior to Aug 25?Existing workload already protected in Metallic will continue to operate as before. How does this change impact workloads currently in the process of onboarding? If you started onboardin
We have a scenario where the following occurs, managed by a popular scheduling application on a server somewhere1 - Scheduling app logs in to the application server (VM) active node and stops <application_service>2 - Scheduling app kicks off maintenance tasks take place on the Active Node with the application stopped3 - Scheduling app runs PS Script to tell Commvault via our CV “API Server” home brew with Web Console and other components installed to take VM backup of the app Active node with services stopped4 - once backup done, sends result back to PS script and if 0 (success) then the script restarts the application service on the active nodeProblem - This is all unnecessarily complicated by the presence of the ‘homebrew CV API server’ which was built and has no docs.I need a better, aka simpler, way. If the VM subclient cold run pre-post scripts, perfect, but it cannot. Any suggestions please? With details. Thanks
Estou tendo problema no Commvault para realizar o backup Auxiliary Copy sempre apresenta esse erro abaixo alguem ja teve esse problema e sabe como posso resover? I'm having problems with Commvault when performing the backup. Auxiliary Copy always shows this error below. Has anyone had this problem and knows how I can solve it? Error Code: [13:138]Description: Error occurred while processing chunk [1111336] in media [V_504103], at the time of error in library [Pool_Disk_VMs_Definitivo] and mount path [[xxx_bkp01] C:\Commvault_Pool_Disk_VMs_Definitivo], for storage policy [Policy_Pool_Disk_VMs_Definitivo] copy [Copia-Fita-Definitiva-Manual] MediaAgent [xxx_bkp01]: Backup Job [603097]. We have following Scenario:WORM CLoud Libary Storage Policy with Primary Copy 30Days Retention + Selective Copy -> AllJObs to "Worm Library" with 7 Days Retention Workflow Enable WOrm run -> 7 Days Retention / 7 Days Seal DDB / 14 Days WORM LockEverthing is correct set by WF and is working asexpected LockDays set correct, Sealing happens after 7 Days, but the old Sealed DDBs get not cleaned because the Index Jobs get not cleaned of it although the Retain Until Date is fullfilled.I could not find any hint in documentation or elsewhere how to handle Index Jobs in Combination with Immutable Copy. Has there anyone experience or missed I something.Everthing would be helpful. Thx & BRMarcel
I would like use these commandEnable-CVSchedulePolicy -ClientName <String> -SubclientName <String>Disable-CVSchedulePolicy -ClientName <String> -SubclientName <String>But i have a small problem with thatThe primary function sought is to deactivate or dissociate a client's policy. In each policy I have several clients.I therefore need to do that only on one or a list of clients and not on the entire policyis it possible to refine the powershell command in this direction ??
Hi Team,In our Infra we have facing one issue in commvault backup solution,Our Commvault backup infra having 3 media agent, while running the auxillary copy backup jobs it will take only one media agent for both source and destination. Some times all the auxillary copy jobs are hang state and failed the jobs, and every time we need to reboot the media agent then only auxillary jobs are work, I am looking for any solution and suggestions for this above case.
I was wondering if anyone out there may have ever tried to configure a Netbackup server as a Data Source for Metrics Reporting?Could it be possible to make this work so that we could report on other backup tools from within Commvault? We’re an MSP and looking for a way to report on all of our backup products from one place without having to fully build a solution in-house.
Hello everyone,I have a storage policy with three copies:Primary on disk at my main data center Secondary on disk at my DR site Secondary on Metallic cloud storageFollowing the failure to restore a production system last week it was found that none of my copies had verification enabled. My question is: Should I turn on verification for all three copies?Any recommendations would be appreciated.Ken
Hi allI’m having the same issue as discussed in the below conversation but my setup is a little bit different. I am using a NAS clientinstead of a file system agent. Some of the sub-clients are greyed out and I see this is because the OnePass check box was checked (Archiving is not set). On unchecking it, the ‘Full’ backup option is still greyed out. This only applies to the sub-clients that had the OnePass checkbox enabled. There is another NAs client configured to the same shares which handles the Archiving jobs, but don’t think this would cause the issue as I can run Fulls on the unchecked sub-clients.There is no option to set ‘Object Based Retention on this type of backup configuration, so not sure what else could be causing this issue?
Hello,We have set up a WORM S3 library in Commvault, specifically for the purpose of second copies. Commvault advises against performing DDB verification on cloud storage. I'm curious if it's possible to start a recopy (in case of bad chunks) for this WORM configuration. If so, I'd like to clarify whether, once the recopy is finished, the job will continue to use the same job ID in the S3 immut storage but will reference the newly copied objects, then removing the references to the previous objects associated with the same job.Furthermore, since we're dealing with immutable storage, how to ensure that the new objects (those that have been recopied) maintain a link or reference to the same job ID within the S3 immutable bucket coz the metadata of the same job also being locked in the first place can't modify or delete. thanks
I can't make a new one MySQL server commServer Version 11.28.79, error in processing message. Please check evmgrs.log for more details
