oracle incremental backup is taking longer time to finish , upon the checking the event we got the event says to enable the block change tracking, we have some dependencies to enable it,is there any way to speed up the incremental backup or better to run full backup daily.

Hi All, maybe you can help us.  During an human error the option: DDB horizontal scaling threshold number of subclients per DDB 1  was set to 1. This cause last night  DDB [xyz] crossed number of subclients threshold hence created a new DDB [xyz] for adding new Subclients.  Now we have 2 DDBs   So what happen is that all new subclients will be run against the ID:44 and all old one deduplicated against ID:41  This happend also for another engine.  The new created id is actually empty. Sealing did not help. also we tried: qoperation agedata -delbystoreid -sid 44 ft Q_DATA_LOG Actually running support case does also have no idear if and how can this ddb can be deleted.  The problem is that we dont have enoug space in metallic cloud for running in baseline. thanks for your help

Good Day to all!I am facing the issue on Auxcopy job. The incremental backup size is only 15 TB and we have good copy upto 6th August, 2023 but when the auxcopy job is triggered it is showing 251 TB need to be copied.Recently we have upgraded the Maintenance release from 11.24.112 to 11: 24.116 on 6th August, 2023 Kindly suggest 

Hello, I have a DASH copy from the Prod site to the DR site. The DDUP partition on the DR site appears to be running out of space, so the Aux copy has been stopped. What should I do to resume the auxiliary copy? I can’t add more space.Thanks 

If i understand correctly Changed Block Tracking is not supported when taking VM backups in a Citrix environment?Backups for Citrix Xen (commvault.com) When a virtual machine disk for a Xen virtual machine is backed up, the entire disk is read for allocated blocks, for both full and incremental backups. Can anyone confirm? I was thinking that CBT will greatly improve the backup speed. Thank you!

Hello,I am trying to create workflow for VM backup and restore.I have used predefined workflow Demo_FileSystemBackupRestore and tried to modify it for VM.Everything goes fine until it gets to restore phase where I get Error 0x303: Q_VIRTUAL_SERVER iDataAgent is not supported by this command.Thanks for any suggestions,Michal

Hello Commvault Community,We had a problem with "point in time" replication between two physical Windows servers. A group that has been defined in Command Center is not visible in CommCell Console (you can see the RP store, but nothing in the Data Replication monitor).Recovery data (latest recovery) works without problems - the backup is on the second volume, but in the "point in time" I can't overwrite checkpoint on the target volume. There is no way to select another client to save a copy of the volume (can’t select the resource).  How to do it correctly? What needs to be done to make it possible to select a resource?Regards,Michał

i saw the below note while enabling randsomware on hyperscal nodes  once you initialize and deploy the hyperscale , disk libraries are already mounted on media agents right ? also after rebooting the node we ran the sestatus command ,we can see permissible instead of enforcing is that okay ?

 Hi All,We are backing up SQL server as an AWS EC2 instance. There was change were done in which SQL server EC2 instance replaced with new EC2 instance with same name and data. From our end we released the Commvault license and when Commvault was installed onto the new EC2 instance by default client for with we have released the license should get Commvault license and should be showing up. But this don’t happen and new client with same name was created. Please help me to know why new client with same name was created.From my end we missed that the new EC2 server will be created with new OS. Old EC2 has 2012 and new has 2016.Request you to please help me to fix the issue.

HelloLooking for anyone who has used Commvault together with Snapvault and would like to know some best practices. I have used both Intellisnap and snapvault in the past but not together.Here is the setup (which was setup before I joined the company). The environment consists of 2 primary AFF and one seconday FAS for the snapvault. All backups are handled with snapshots, so no data is actually sent to the MA or a library. Commvault is only the orchestrator for snapvault and provides vCenter integration through VSA proxy.Plans are in use, and ESX datastores are added to the plansBackup workflow: VSA Proxy tells vCenter to do vmware application consistent snapshot, then the Array MA send commands to Netapp array to create snapshot. Vcenter then removes vm-snapshot and Commvault considers the backup job complete.Backup copy is disabled on the storage policy, otherwise it created a snapclone from the snapshot and mounted it as a datastore and backed up the VM’s through nbd to the MA and di

Hello fellow Commvault users,I have a question regarding the upgrade of Commvault from v10 to v11 while also migrating from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2016. I am seeking to determine the best course of action for this process.Option 1:Start by formatting the server and upgrading it to Windows Server 2016. Perform a Disaster Recovery to restore Commvault v10 after the OS upgrade. Finally, proceed with the upgrade to Commvault v11.Option 2:First, update Commvault v10 to v11 while the server is still running on Windows Server 2012. Once the Commvault upgrade is complete, format the server and update it to Windows Server 2016. After the OS migration, recover Commvault using the Disaster Recovery process.I would greatly appreciate your input and feedback on which option you believe is the most efficient and reliable for upgrading Commvault and migrating the OS. Hi,I have a question regarding the Graph API permissions for the Azure application that needs to be configured.It’s related to this topic:Azure Application API Permissions for M365 Services | Community (commvault.com) Why is it necessary for Commvault to retrieve user list and licenses? And assign the application Directory.Read.All permission?  During my testing, I managed to run a backup from a SharePoint Online site without this permission assigned. However, when attempting to restore back to the SharePoint Online site, it fails. In the Azure Storage account, I can see some items appearing under the container during the restore, but they are deleted after a short while. In the log from the Commvault application server I see the following error message:Error decrypting password.  Is this error related to missing API permission? Or is it something else? The storage account is set up as descripted in documentation.  

I have a customer that has some types of  auxiliary copies to cloud one is virtual machines and the second is logs He want to see how much virtual machines backup to cloud and what is the retention of the auxiliary copy to cloud He does not want to see all the clients in the report.

We are trying to develop a script that can be ran on a client which will use a find command for specific files to create a list to be backed up and restored on another client using CLI or the cvc command. We are new to Commvault and were able to do this with TSM’s dsmc command.Any help or examples would be much appreciated. Thank you

But when the server is booting up it direct to something like recover mode. At the end of this article it’s written  For converted Windows VMs, disks might be offline. You can bring the disks online manually. How do I Bring disk system online?       

Is an option within CommVault to update the description or note fields on the source host platform (VMWare/Azure) when a backup is performed/successful through alert notifications ?

Hello allWe don’t currently back up our entire VM estate due to licence/cost limitations. We’re on a capacity licence and nearly at the limit so it’s buying time. I’ve been asked to work out how much capacity licence we would need to add to be able to back up all our VMs (from this we can somewhat factor in growth rates). Does Commvault provide a report or sizing tool to be able to see this easily? I can see what we’re currently using licence wise, and I can see all my unprotected (excluded) VMs under virtualization, but not how to easily put these together. if I did have to do this manually I’d be looking at the VM size wouldn’t I for the front end size?Would my reseller have a sizing tool maybe? Or can mere mortals get that too?!Thanks for any and all help.

I am preparing a ddb for retirement. There are no jobs associated with it and I have run a space reclamation at the highest level with Clean Orphan data set. Why am I still seeing values in Total Number Of Unique Blocks?  

Currently our client is using the built-in KMS server which stores encryption keys in the Commvault Database. As far as I can find, there is no way to extract these keys.We are looking to transition to Azure Key Vault for storing these keys. It is very easy to change the KMS server, but in theory this would leave us unable to access the previous backups as we technically do not have access to those keys for decryption.I have searched this extensively and there is no documentation for this (confirmed via Commvault support phone call). What is the proper process for changing the KMS server on a backup location, particularly the built-in KMS server over to a third-party, without losing access to backups? I did find 1 forum post stating this “just works”, but I need to provide some kind of concrete answer for my higher-ups to be happy. Thank you in advance!

Stuck trying to get SAML SSO sorted in a test environment before moving into Prod.  Followed the procedure at Using Active Directory Federation Services as Your Identity Provider (commvault.com) and SSO for Command Center or Web Console works fine on every other machine bar the CommServe box hosting the webserver. It just prompts the authentication box 2 times before defaulting to non SSO.Non SSO logins via domain creds work fine. CommCell browser DOES work fine using SSO on the web server box! It’s just browser access. Using LiveSync and failing over to the secondary CommServe results in the problem moving with web access restored on the previous primary server. The problem then afflicts the secondary (now primary. Tried running “in private” browser sessions and clearing cache with no result. What logs will monitor the transactions with the iDP to help me troubleshoot the issue. The Webserver logs show nothing.
