Background: We have 2 media agents at a secondary site that each have a single “data” mount path to storage that we just hit 256 TB on (OS refuses to expand them further, its using 64kb blocks). The media agents have their storage/mount path mapped to that dedicated storage volume (like X:\) and then they also map (in commvault) to the other media agent. So each media agent can read/write to either X:\ on either media agent.Note: All the volumes in commvault are pointing to the same dedicated storage array (that only commvault uses)Questions: Since we cannot expand the existing mount path storage beyond 256 TB for either mount, a few options are being explored:Make a new volume and format it to 128 kb blocks, so it can grow to 512 TB is needed. Then do a “move mount path” of the 256 TB bound volume to the 512TB bound one. result: we have a single mount point per media agent, and it just is really big. using 128 kb blocks seems like a “probably don’t want to do” from some online thing
A storage pool was sealed about a month ago. All jobs for that DDB appear to be gone, and the old folders are no longer seen under the physical paths for each partition, yet the backing storage has yet to be freed up to pre-sealed levels. Meaning - when do those old chunks get pruned from the libraries?Space reclamation fails because the DDB paths aren’t around anymore obviously. There appears to be over 150TB locked up in the S3 library used by the DDB.thanks
I have exceeded my capacity license. I ran a license summary report and identified a number of sub clients which i could disable. After disabling backup activity at the subclient level, and after running data aging these subclients were still featuring on the license capacity report. Why are licenses not being released. In several cases i v also released license for client , and the license did not release.
Hi,I`m reviewing some of the statistics within the Health Report and one of them is the Scale Statistics which in my case are showing the following; It recommends to run a “DBMaint -recommended” but my questions are;1- Considering I will be upgrading to 11.36 soon. Do I still run the DBmaintenance as recommend separate prior the upgrade or simple cheking the box for DB Maintenance during the upgrade covers it all?2- Proactive DBMaintenance: says it tries to defrag indexes when it reaches certain criterias. Are those criterias documented available to customers? Any alerts that can be enabled in case it fails?3- It shows Commserv DB is 151GB and tempdb and log “too large” - are there published parameters that specify what too large is?4- Is there anything such as a too large CSDB? When is it recommended to spin up a new CS instance? Any documentation on this? Thanks in advance.
Hello all Our Business is currently in the process of migrating our existing services hosted in a onprem data centre into the cloud hosted by a third party. As part of this migration we have a number of existing VMs which host both Oracle and SQL databases which will be migrated as is including the current IP.Our CommVault backup solution has now been configured with new media agents and associated Cloud Library & GlobalDDB. We have also started to build out plans based on the existing plans with the exception these are now using the new libraries / media agents etc. What is the best method to update the existing clients to point them at the new plans / media agents just as I’ve seen on the client properties under “Network” and “Network Summary” there are details in a file called “FwConfigLocal.txt”. This has details pointing to the old Media Agents, are we meant to manually edit this on each client after the migration to point at the new Media Agents? If so how do I locate the “rem
Hi Team, We have our AWS environment with 90% of Windows base servers and 10% Linux based servers. We have recommended our customer to use Linux base Media Agents and Linux base Access nodesMy question is will Linux base access node be able to perform file level recovery for snapshot base backup. Performing mount activity for Windows snapshot backup on Linux Access Node will work or not. Also please recommend Commvault best practices for the same.
Hi Experts,In one of my customer, Azure VM streaming backups along with iDA for several workloads being used. I was referring the possibilities to implement Azure VM intellisnap backup and going through some documentation. In context of feasibility study, I am unable to find limitations for performance, granular restores from Snap and Backup Copy both covering for Azure VM snapshot backup and iDA’s on AZURE VM’s like SAP, Oracle, PGsql, MYSQL, MS-SQL. Need community help pointing me to the relevant stuff. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Hello Team,Can we enable archive_mode=always for our current environment (which is on 11.32.96) to ensure PITR between log backups and failover? Also, below KB article confirms that starting SP34 onwards the backed up logs will be cleaned up from all the participating clients. Does that mean it is still missing in SP32? Can it be backported? Restore to a time between log only backup and failover may not restore the records inserted after log backupThank you for your time. Kamal
We are migrating the Virtual machines from VMware to Hyper-V. Do we have any option to change the generation of Virtual machine during the restore from VMware to Hyper-V using Commvault.
We are implementing a new StoreOnce system as primary copy and test performance (and other topics) between FC-catalyst stores and FC-Virtual Tape Libraries A Catalyst Store on StoreOnce can be configured either as high-bandwidth or low-bandwidthhigh-bandwidth: Backup server (media agent in case of CommVault) will send backupstreams unmodified to StoreOnce and then StoreOnce will do dedupe etc. before finally storing the data on its disks. low-bandwidth: already the backup server (media agent) will do de-dupe and only sends new things to the StoreOnce.VTL is similar to high bandwidth (all goes from MA over FC-SAN to StoreOnce and only there the data reduction takes place). As we have plenty of ressources on FC-SAN and the StoreOnce is made for doing all the datareduction we’d like to get StoreOnce connected/configured in high-bandwidth for Catalyst, especially as important servers are doing LAN-free backups (have their own media agent locally installed to directly backup over FC) - havi
Hello all,Do you have experience with Commvault Cloud Air Gap Protect storage with multiple containers? For example if I have 40TB total space, what will happen if I will create 3 libraries, how available space will be distributed between all 3 libraries. Will it be dynamically assigned, or strictly 40/3 = 13,3 TB for each?
Hi All, We’ve recently created a new Library, storage policies and new Media Agent servers. The Media agents have separate NIC’s for management, backup and replication traffic. My question is how do i know or where do i configure that Aux copy process will use the replication interfaces on the media agants.I would really appreciate any advice.ThanksTerry
Have a dark-site customer that cannot upload to cloud.commvault.com. They would like to not have the security alert be red all the time for Health tile - Security Assessment - Platform Security - DR backup.Configured to the cloud makes it green, but since they cannot....Is there a way to disable that alerting or review? The below is from a CS that has it configured and is green/good.
After I upgraded CommCell from 11.28 to 11.32, I encountered this error. I have checked and confirmed that the account for accessing vCenter is still working (I can see the VMs in vCenter when I try to create a new subclient). However, the new subclient I created for testing also failed with the same error.
Hi Team, When we trigger any backup & restore job then do not showing in the active job in metallic. Kindly let me know how to fix the issue. All in showing 0 running, pending etc. Please find the snapshot for better understanding.
Hi Expert Team,End customer environment is secure site. So they cannot whitelist metallic cloud URLs for storing phase1 of DR backup. Currently the phase1 of DR backup writes to local disk and phase2 goes to commserveDR policy which is HPE catalyst. I believe we cannot recover from HPE Catalyst using mediaexplorer tool(This I read from other community article). We cant even use Network path for phase1. So we are planning for creating a filesystem backup of phase1 backup folder(SET**) on disk library. If we do this way can we retrieve the DR dump files using mediaexplorer tool? Please advise. commvault DR backup retrieving from disk library using MediaExplorerhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.40/expert/cataloging_media_using_media_explorer.html
I need a user who should delete clients without permission. Can I exclude him somehow in the workflow?
Recenty i saw one news regarding commvault any one have clarity about this. below is the commvult news link. Hello Team What are best practices for MS SQL backup and especially restore for big databases in terms of splitting DB into multiple files (SQL side)? Let’s assume we have 10 TB MS SQL database. What is better:Having 1 file for whole DB Having 10x 1 TB files Having 160x 64 GB files? And why?Let’s assume we can have 4-16 backups streams for this DB.It’s question about performance of backup/restore/DB itself, not about management and handling with files or underlying storage raid distribution/layout per DB/file. Kind regards,eMF
Are there any issues manually deleting older versions of VDDK from the Base\VMWARE folder? Our Access Nodes are being pinged for multiple libcurl and sqlite3 vulnerabilities on account of having 11 different VDDK versions.
I am looking at creating a storage policy for SQL/Oracle Logs Backups and I do see the the Java GUI gives me the option for a Log Storage Policy as well as it describes its functionalities in the documentation (https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/enabling_log_storage_policy.html).If I attempt to instead create a "Plan", it seems like the option does not exists. Am I missing anything? What is the recommended approach for Log Backups when it comes to the different management interfaces? Should Logs have its own Policy always? Any documentation available that describes the best practices for that particular purpose? In the second screen shot, there would be a list of DDB storage pools. Considering Logs are not Dedup, should that just be unchecked I assume? Thanks
Dears, Initially, the auxiliary copy was running with good throughput speeds of 4000 to 5000 GB/hr. However, due to an issue with the tape drives, we recently replaced them. We deconfigured the old tape library and reconfigured the new one.Since the new configuration, the auxiliary copy throughput has significantly dropped.Note:We have six LTO-6 tape drives with LTO-6 cartridges. A secondary copy has been configured, and data paths are enabled for all six drives with the associated Media Agent.Kindly advise on how to mitigate this issue. Regards,Mani D
Dear Vaulters,I would like to understand how retention policies work for both on-premises Exchange mailboxes and O365 cloud applications. If we configure an O365 plan or an Exchange Archiver plan to retain deleted messages for 5 years, I understand that once the retention period is reached, the index is dropped—making the data non-browsable and non-restorable.My question is: What happens to the underlying data in storage? Will it be pruned as per the retention settings, or will it remain in storage indefinitely?how it reacts for on prem exchange mailboxhow it reacts for other cloud apps if I use the same O365 plansLooking forward to your clarification.Best regards,Ananth
Hi Team, Has anyone tried the VM level threat scan ?Does anyone have a file to infect the VM or a video related to testing treat scan level VM?Thanks
Hi Community,we have Operating Instances licenses and Virtualization licenses and we also doing a backup from an S3 Storage as a source. If we backup the S3, this is counted in the Backup and Recovery for Unstructured Data but we not purchased anything this way.The Backup works - is this intended ?Does anybody know what belongs where in this case ?
