I’m setting up Activate to hopefully use for my company for file share optimization. My initial storage which was about 600GB is space is now full. I have not been able to determine in the configuration settings how to modify or add new storage to the current index. I’ve even attempted to create a new index server but it will not let me use the same node (media agent) as before so that I can assign new storage. In this case the local F: drive. Does anyone know where the configuration is for me to modify the target of Activate index files?
Hi, Is this report working for someone? When we want to use it, the drop down boxes for commcell/clientgroup are empty. (11.21)
I’ve configured MS SQL VMs in Hyper-V for AppAware backups in Commvault 11.22.3. As detailed on docs.commvault.com an automatic log backup schedule is created and log backups proceed as planned. In the CommCell Console I can only find them through the client > ‘SQL Server’ > instance > ‘default’ subclient, right-clicking Schedules. They’re shown with an empty Schedule Policy name. They’re not shown in the Schedule Policies section, nor in the Scheduler, so no easy way to manage multiple ones at the same time. What am I missing?
Hello,Any smart ideas on how an MSP could delegate Plan choice on a per VM / DB / FS / etc.. level? E.g. have customer choose the right Bronze/Silver/Gold plan for VM’s, databases, etc.Command center obviously has the functionality to assign plans, but… it involves dealing with creating individual subclients first etc, since that today is where you can apply a plan to. In my situation, the IAAS infrastructure is shared, and data is organized into subclients from an infrastructure point of view (datastore, cluster, resource pools, etc). This infrastructure is shared across different customres.Customers don’t have access to the hypervisor/subclients on CommVault for obvious reasons. Creating subclients per VM (by the MSP), just so that you could assign an individual plan to is obviously not the right way to go. (scalability, performance, scheduling, burden/overhead on the clients & infra).Looking forward to any suggestions anyone might have in this area. I’m waiting for the d
Hi folks, I have a question and or rather willing to have a discussion and sharing information about how we can minimize our efforts of clicking. Possibly share scripts that we have developed and help each other out on daily tasks. We all know that Java GUI has a lot of ways to do the same and it also involves a lot of clicking. For example, I was able to find and adapt qscripts, qoperations and API for quite a few good daily ops in my scripts, automation:Get clients associated to specific Client Group; Get Client Group to which specific server belongs; Add / Remove client from specific Client Group Start / Stop media agents maintenance mode DIP’s operations (enable/disable/remove/add) Commcell activity (Enable/Disable) Finding duplicate clients between our commcells And sure, all of it depends on the level of competence in automating, but Commvault being ‘old dinosaur’ can still be automated a bit. Now, for example I cannot find a way to write a script which switches preffered media
Hello,When I try: Command : http://<<webserver>>:81/SearchSvc/CVWebService.svc/VM I got only the first 100 VMs entry in alphabetical order back.there is no error!Have any one an idea why not all, we have around 2000 VMs.thanks in advanceJuergen
Hello Everyone We run a frequent patching schedule and we are asked to make sure that we have latest backups available for those servers. These servers belong to multiple subclients and we are at the moment manually triggering the incremental backups for those subclients and this takes time as we have to initiate the backup of whole subclient even if only one VM is being patched out of those lets say 20 VMs.What is the best way to approach this without moving the VM out of the subclient.? Or is it possible to trigger incremental backups for selective VMs inside a subclient. We are at SP20. Thank You
We are running on V11 SP19 and all our media agents are running on Windows 2016Initially AUX copy performance was at peak 3TB/hr to 7TB/hr, gradually it performance degrade and now AUX copy job running at 300GB/hr to 500GB/hr. One this I found DDB verification job is not completing at all. Any support much appreciated
We plan on adding new ESXi (VMware) vCenters to our existing environment. During this our Virtual admins will be adding a couple at a time and then moving the existing VMs over so we will have the old ones in place and new ones.I know I will have to deploy and configure the new vCenter (VSA) client and add the hosts and we use Folders. So the Folder names will be mirrored in the old and new existing vCenter environments. With all that being said how will Commvault treat the first backup on the new vCenter clients? Will they be considered full because they are on new hosts or will it see the existing data and only treat it like an incremental because of how the Global Dedupe policy works? I am curious because if everything is a “full” I won’t have the capacity.Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks.
Question: What are the pros and cons of using the “Use VSS” setting in the sql server instance properties. What is the real difference between traditional backup methods and vss full backups when using NetApp and Intellisnap to backup MS SQL Instances?
https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=7877_1.htm I was wondering what this fix is about that can be downloaded from https://cloud.commvault.com/webconsole/softwarestore/store.do#!/147/0/15365 . Is this to be able to see the check box on the media agent or is this a report. If it is a report is can someone please share a sample output of it please?
Does Commvault have the ability to backup image a physical device? One of our physical computers computers just had a false quarantine hit it due to our AV. Now our machine is corrupt and we have no image of the machine and need to reinstall and configure the software. Normally, I would just use something like Ghost or Accronis but I am thinking of how I can use Commvault to doe the same.
Hello CommunityIs this procedure https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=129268.htm equivalent to using a network topology (network gateway for instance so that the traffic is tunneled through a single port 8403) and enabling the checkbox “encrypt network traffic” on the network topologies dialog box? Also what should one observe in the network summary on the commcell level to verify that these settings “automatic tunneling and encryption for network traffic” are in place?
I work for a MSP, and as a matter of course we add CommCells we manage to the Commvault Cloud Metrics Reporting site, (I currently have 27 CommCells linked there), but over time we stop managing some CommCells but there is no way to remove them once they have been added (that I can see).Is there a way to remove a CommCell once it’s been added?
Hi,are there any Best Practices to Backup Netapp Volumes with lots of files in a single Volume (use cases cannot use multiple volumes)? Two of my Customers running in a similar issues with the Performance (1st Customer has a Throughput of around 10 GB/h and the other around 150 GB/h). On both Customers we are Using Intellisnap and after we create a Backup Copy to a Disklib. Hi,I have a problem if I want to add additional Azure Apps to my O365 Backup App in Commvault Command Center. The Process failes for all kinds of O365 Apps and I see this issue on Customer Site with FR20 and in my demo env with FR22.In the webserver.log I found following error:7688 14 01/28 08:19:18 ### TEST\kaiser CVWeSvc::CreateAzureAdApp - BEGIN 7688 14 01/28 08:19:18 ### TEST\kaiser CVWeSvc::CreateAzureAdApp - Save to client flag is set 7688 14 01/28 08:19:18 ### TEST\kaiser CVWeSvc::CreateAndSaveAzureAdApp - BEGIN 7688 14 01/28 08:19:18 ### TEST\kaiser CVWeSvc::CreateAndSaveAzureAdApp - Request Message - [<App_AzureAdAppCreationReq instanceId="24" opType="1" subClientId="180" isOneDriveV2="1" saveToClient="1" redirectUriForApp="https://commserve.test.viso/adminconsole" />] 7688 14 01/28 08:19:18 ### TEST\kaiser GetInstanceProperties - Processing POST request : ] Headers :[Content-Length=149].[Accept=application/json].[Accept-Encoding=gzip, deflate, br].[A
I know the VSA client, an our hypervisor is VMware, uses a snapshot to perform the backup. Does this process modify the “last access” date for the VM and or files? I know you can configure the File iData agent to track this but cannot find if the snapshot modifies this attribute. Thanks.
Hi guys,is there a easy API call where I get the license consumption for a client?I found this API call:{{ServerUrl}}/Client/{{clientId}}/License But this gives me only the used license type / name e. g.:{ "licensesInfo": [ { "platformType": 1, "license": { "licenseType": 1, "appType": 33, "licenseName": "Server File System - Windows File System" } }, { "platformType": 1, "license": { "licenseType": 3, "appType": 81, "licenseName": "Application Class 1 - SQL Server" } } ]} My goal is to get a output like: clientA is using 200gb of license “Server File System - Windows File System”and clientA is using 100gb of license “Application Class 1 - SQL Server”
We are investigating to start using Azure Files as an archive method. When a file been tiered (stubbed) how does Commvault treat that stub when a file backup is run? Will it backup the stub itself or does it follow the link and backup the entire file?BrHenke
Hi, We are using following procedure for moving a client to a company:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.21/essential/122919_migrating_clients_to_company.html That works fine in 11.21.But what about moving database instances? We moved the client, and that’s visible, but the (RAC) database isn’t moved. And there is no option within the database instance to change company. Instance options
Hello, I figured I would drop this question here to see if anyone can answer before I open up a full ticket for this. I am looking for some type of report that will show what is using up our Capacity. Recently we were nearly at 100% capacity and suddenly it dropped down to 84%. We have been unable to find any reason for this. So was wondering if anyone knew of a report that we can run comparisons of the capacity by days to try and find out what happened. Thank you for any help you can give.
Someone using the SQL Management studio plugin in their environment? (https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=18302.htm)I’m asking because on our side that plugin is very slow. getting backup jobs/login takes minutes.Wondering if others have the same problem.
We are using Livesync to replicate HyperV VMs into Azure. Once in Azure we are able to power up the VMs without issue, but we are wondering how other users are automating the task of setting a static IP both in the Azure Network settings, and in the Windows Server ipv4 settings. We have tried manually creating the network adapters in Azure, but you aren’t able to select the adapter in the livesync setup.
This is a conversation post after my initial post about FR22 .3 This is more of a findings topic/conversation .I had three older wk8r2 media agents ( now replaced) that experienced widespread issues after going to FR22 .3NOTE: none of these issues are/were recorded with Commvault as actual issues. The decision to replace/Migrate the OS was made at the 11th hour after working weeks on these issues. The basic application appears to work just fine with 2k8r2 fr22 .3 - Readiness, services running ,can run jobs etc. The issue we were running into was consistent across all three. And the only 2k8r2 media agents in our environment's I knew it was an issue. Seemed too coincidental not to be.After the Fr22 .3 update- within 4 hours our jobs started experiencing all or some of the following errors:Pipeline errorsMedia mount services device not readylibrary full.Even when attempting to select new snap mount hosts for jobs i was getting connection refused messages in the GXTail event logs. The mos
When the pandemic hit, we were forced to quickly adapt and answer a bunch of questions we’d never asked ourselves: how can we keep in touch with our colleagues when we’re not in the office? And how can we make sure we are still efficient while working from home?It quickly became apparent that one, seemingly small issue could prove catastrophic: our information system is designed so all business documents are located on our servers and on our work computers. But this also meant that many wouldn’t be able to access these documents from home.Since the employees were already familiar with the backup system, this new opportunity only confirmed our desire to modernize the complete system and to digitize business processes.Everyone was aware that these changes were necessary, that it would help them work through the emergency, and, most importantly, that working from home wouldn’t be an insurmountable problem.A new short manual was compiled to help employees adapt to working from home, with a
