During a case a question comes up. A big VSA environment with more than ten subclients. Template VMs should generally be filtered out.That is easy in Commcell Console. I set the filter on backup set level and this works for all subclients.How can I do this in Command Center?Setting all VSA filters on subclient level seems to be a step backwards in product development. The user is the admin.

We’ve done a big hardware refresh and are migrating all our VMs to a new Virtual Center. Our backup environment is not changing at this time so all the storage, media agents etc are all set up and happy already.I thought I’d take the opportunity to “modernise” our backups at the same time, starting to use plans instead of storage and schedule policies and hopefully get to the point where we can largely leave the java console behind and use the Command Center. Our Commvault environment is very mature (20 years) and a lot of work has gone into keeping it in good shape over the years, through many upgrades and hardware refreshes. It works beautifully. So I am pretty old school and very familiar with the old console. Not loving plans if I’m honest, we have two on prem blocks of storage and one cloud library, and we tend to keep everything on the same retention periods. Hi, We have a customer that is using Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery SaaS for Active Directory (Metallic MTL-AD-USR) and is interested in the recovery of the Active Directory Forest. We have read that there is a new subscription (Commvault Cloud for Active Directory Enterprise Edition) but we do not see it in the Price List.  Does the customer have to upgrade from Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery SaaS for Active Directory to Commvault Cloud for Active Directory Enterprise Edition or add this new subscription or replace Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery SaaS for Active Directory with Commvault Cloud for Active Directory Enterprise Edition?Thanks,Paul

Does a return code “0” mean that the backup was completed successfully and no files have been skipped? Is there an official link that can confirm these codes? Asking because we want to use the status code “0” in an automated process.

we are having windows always on HA sql cluster , currently we are taking fileand app consitent vm backup and seperatly agent based sql backup . now we need to make DR for this in our azure site which is the better option !> VM replication , do i need to change the vm backup method to app aware ? in this case only primary node will be converted as app aware right ? i dont want to run the vm backup every 2 hour , instead i need to run log backup , can i just schedule log backup for same client  will this get replicated once the log backup completed ? 2 > warm sql replicaton  which one is recommended way 

We have over 100 systems in our CommCell computer group and most of the systems are backing up just fine. We have two schedules, a monthly full on the first Friday of each month and weekly incremental jobs. However, on one large file server, the incremental backups are routinely being converted to fulls. I see these messages in the job history: Backup job has been converted to a full backup because Data   Verification detected errorsThe full backups are causing quite a load on the file server. Looking at the job history, about ½ of the jobs are being converted from INCR to FULLs. How do I track down what is causing the verification errors so that it doesn’t have to convert incremental to fulls? Thanks,Q

Hi alli am using metallic and one of our plans has a retention policy of 30 days with a synthetic full each month i was wondering if cycles could pip this on retention ,although I would have to find the cycle settings hope this makes sense  Regards  Tony

I configured the Kubernetes cluster in the environment to perform the backup and added the namespace to perform the PostgreSQL backup. The job is executed and completed successfully, as is the restoration. However, when we upload the database application with the restored data, the error appears: Reported that the database restoration was unsuccessful due to problems mounting the persistent volumes, which prevented the application from uploading correctly.I checked the configuration and it seems to be configured with a Virtual Machine. Does anyone know if I need to configure it differently for the PostgreSQL database environment in Kubernetes, such as when backing up via an agent, for example?

For instance, is it possible to configure auto discovery for specific services like Amazon RDS? Can I configure global auto discovery across all resources in specific accounts? Is it feasible to filter discovered resources using tags?

Hi all, So I have a customer that has expessed interest in Azue AD (EntraID) backup. According to BoL (https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/azure_active_directory.html), only the following object types are protected: Users Groups Conditional access policies Enterprise applications App registrations Roles The customer is aking how to protect other objects, like devices, etc. Microsoft might create new object type at any time, why don’t we just protect all objects?

This allows you to perform log backups at more frequent intervals and leverage a caching mechanism to securely and efficiently transfer transaction logs from the database server to backup storage. The Log Backup with Caching feature enhances database protection by enabling high-frequency transaction log backups—even during control plane/CommServe computer downtime. Does Commvault support or plan to add support for Multi-Streaming during Full VM Restore in VMware?For example, a VM with 4 ‘vmdk’ files can use 4 streams during restoration.We are running ver 11.24 and see that a single stream is used during the restore which slows restores down, especially for larger VMs.We could of course use Live VM recovery but that does not help if the VM is running any resource-heavy app.

Hello Last week upgraded to 11.36 and today I removed old sql 2019 but apparently you also remove sql services. Now the sql database doesn't start anymore. I still have an old installation of sql 2022 with commvault license should I just start a new installation and then use the same instance ID which is set to passive? Or what is best practice in this situation??

Hi team, how much backup storage capacity will be consumed when using OnePass backup of VMware VM?Assuming we have one VMware VM (100 GB used inclusive 30 GB MS SQL DB). When we do a VM backup with DB agent, do we backup 100 GB (onepass) only? or we backup 100 GB (VM level) + 30 GB (DB agent)? It means backup storage will consume 100 GB + extra capacity from DB backup. Which one is correct?Thank you.

Hi,Commvault docs say that for Commserve DR I will require two Microsoft SQL Server agent licenses:“You must have two Microsoft SQL Server agent licenses, one for the production CommServe host and the other for the standby CommServe host.”But then the Licensing guide says the following:“Server data that is protected purely for the operation of the Commvault solution (CommServe® database, deduplication databases, CommServe LiveSync, etc.) will not consume instance-based, or capacity-based licensing. “Let’s say I run Commserve in ESXi host that is fully licensed for Commvault Per-Socket and want to use a standby Commserve in a physical device that does not have any Commvault license.I assume only “restores” will take place to the standby Commserve, and the SQL Agent license for the active Commserve will come from the license that covers the sockets for the hypervisor host.
