Hyperv Backups failed Failure Reason: Virtual machine (abc) disks are not accessible. Ensure that the access node (VSA proxy) can read the source VM disks. we are added Groups as access nodes on properties of Hyperv and those 2 groups are belongs to 2 clusters in hyperv .when ever schedule backup got triggered it will pickup wrong VSA as a Backup agent and its failling with subjected error. if i add manually those VSA proxies in subclient level properties as a access nodes then backups are completing and working fine . how to eliminate this wrong allocation of VSA while backup , i hope commvault should figureout the correct host and VSA allocation , if not correct me and please advice how we can overcome and i would like to use group level association of VSA on node on properties tab instead of subclient level. Thanks in Advance!!
We have encountered an unexpected change in the target media name for SQL server backups on our Commvault Metallic environment. The media name has been changed from "CommVault Galaxy Backup" to "commvault.backup". This change has disrupted our existing backup status scripts, which were designed based on the original media name. Appreciate if anyone provide more information on this?
Hello community,I just tried to create a plan via the Command Center. Apparently you can enter everything as usual but when I want to complete the creation there is no response. So it doesn't switch to the overview of the plans. If I then go back manually, I see the created plan in the list with the status "Incomplete". I can't explain the problem at the moment and have therefore attached the logs from the WebServer.log and a screenshot. Has anyone here had this problem before and can possibly help me?Version 11.32.59 is used.Unfortunately I can't say whether the problem has only been there since the update to this version or whether it existed before. The last update was carried out about 3 weeks ago. --- End of stack trace from previous location --- at Microsoft.AspNetCore.Mvc.Infrastructure.ControllerActionInvoker.Rethrow(ActionExecutedContextSealed context) at Microsoft.AspNetCore.Mvc.Infrastructure.ControllerActionInvoker.Next(State& next, Scope& scope, Object& sta
Hi Commvault experts, I would like to ask how to change the active library controller for the tape library. Of course, I have reviewed the documentation (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.16/library_properties_configuration.html), but it wasn’t helpful in our case. Our new Media Agents have access to the shared SAN tape library, they can access all drives, and even auxiliary jobs are running through them. Unfortunately, we are unable to change the Active Library Controller under Tape Library → Properties → Library Controller → Change, because our new Media Agents are not listed there. What are we missing? In the Device Manager on the server's operating system, we can see all tape drives. So what could be wrong?
I’m interested to know what other Commvault users doing with VM’s that fail to QUIESCE a VM during the backup. We have approx 300 each day that appear on the health report. Many of these are appliances and VM’s where VMTools does not support the OS. For these I was thinking of creating separate subclients that do not attempt the QUIESCE. However, for the others they seem to be intermittent issues so guessing they might be busy periods for the VM;s in question. I’m just intrigued to understand how other customers deal with QUIESCE issues.
I want to know, about this topic, there is only support to rhel 7 and CentOS?I have MA with Oracle Linux 8; Shared SAN Data Server - System Requirements for Fibre Channel (commvault.com)
Hello - I am looking for advice on best practices on protecting data that is fairly static, gets updated once or twice a year( at most per quarter), but not on a consistent schedule. Also, looking to store this data in public cloud deep archive.
Hi Commvault experts, are there any caveats when moving 3 DDB partitions (all have different volume/disk H:,I:,J:) from one Media Agent to the new one? Has to be a new Media Agent added to the Global Deduplication storage pool before the moving of the partitions? The point of moving is to move DDB partitions from the HDD disk to the SSD disk, while moving to the new Media Agent server. And what about size of the new volume/disk for the DDB partitions? Is it just enough sum the amount of the Used Space on DDB Disks from all three DDB partitions? There is a couple of articles from the documentation about ddb moving/sizing, but I would prefer hearing examples from real life situations/experience rather than encyclopedic axiom…- Tell me and I forget. Hi All,We have a VM backup with (VMware) VSA Snap. The same job was copied to secondary which was in Azure. Our VSA was later removed as there is no dependency on it.We are trying to restore few Guest Files from the VM backup from the secondary copy with Azure Media Agent and Library, but the restore is failing saying that the Old VSA was unable to communicate. Not sure why it is asking this way, even we are browsing it from Cloud MA which is having VSA installed on it.Our VM was a Windows Server, Old VSA is Windows and new MA/VSA is Linux.Any suggestions or idea, why it is taking it even we are giving other MA/VSA? Thanks in Advance.. Warm Regards,Sravan Kondeti
Backup Data flow in VMWare using the Hotadd transport mode for data transfer; Does it transfer data directly from ESxi server or VSA to library through MA?
What logs tell me when a client has been released, audit trail is not showing the information ?
Hello, we use cv11.32.63I have the following question: When I start in commandcenter a synth-full backupjob an incremental backup runs before. Is there any way to run only the synth-full backup without incremental backup? I only see this behavior when I start the synth-full backup manuelly. If I define a schedule policy I have a choice run incremental backup before, after or synth-full backup alone. regards Roland
Hello Commvault team. Is there any way to reattempt the Commvault Certified Professional Exam ?
Hello Commvault,In Exchange Online Self-Service, is there any way to remove the ability from end-user to view it’s Deleted Items?https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/previewing_exchange_online_messages_and_attachments.htmlAlthough, from Administrator side, we still need the ability to view / restore also these Deleted items from all mailboxes.Best regards,Nikos
We want to migrate VMs from Vmware to Hyper-V using Commvault. The Hyper-V will be a cluster with SAN storage to store the Cluster files. The Hyper-V cluster will be hardened with Windows Firewall rules. What are the ports to be allowed for allowing Restore of VM from VMware to Hyper-V and Backups of Hyper-V VMs on Proxy.
Hi,I want to recover a exchange DB from tape, the backup is written on two different tapes. But we only have one LTO4 drive. When I want to recover the Exchange DB, the job is always aborted because the second tape cannot be read. The first tape is in the LTO drive. I have no way of changing the tape during the recovery job. How can I solve the problem?ThanksRalph
Hello,I have a Storage Policy with the disks and retentions shown below. The idea behind this design is shorten the time required to backup to the primary, then Aux copy(slower disks) can be done later. For jobs with a Full(day1), Incremental (next 20 days), I have seen the full and incrementals being retained on the primary and not aging after 1 day. I understand why as the Full and incrementals are needed to restore, but is there any way to age them off the primary as they will be available on Aux Copys. I have been manually deleting the jobs off the Primary as space starts to run out, but the next incremental job automatically converts itself to a Full backup. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.Primary - SSDs 3TBs - Retention 1 Day 0 Cycle Aux Copy - HDDs 40TBs - Retention 21 Day 1 Cycle Aux Copy - Tape Storage
After setting up an update from version 11.32.59 to 11.32.63 that failed, the commvault web console is not accessible anymore. Not from localhost on the linux server that hosts it, or from any of the clients. It still sends emails that there are updates available for download, but I’m unable to connect to the webconsole. The Web service is running if I go to ip:5000/searchsvc/cvwebservice.svc but I get an unable to connect when trying to log into the console itself.
Does commvault make use of Multi-part upload to S3 compatible HCP/HCP-CS storage? If yes, what's the part size? Can it be modified at the CV ? Does it occur for both non-worm and worm policies? Are there any logs where the parts and upload-ids can be viewed?
Hello community,Im looking for a way to restore an on-prem Exchange mailbox to an Exchange online mailbox (o365).From Exchange restore options menu, I can see only the Exchange (on-prem) as a destination. Also, from Exchange online (o365), there is only the option for Exchange online restore. No option for on-prem Exchange (cross restore). Our version is 11.32.49.Please for your feedback, if cross restore on-prem Exchange ↔ Exchange online is supported in Commvault.Best regards,Nikos
Hi folks,we are planning to upgrade from 11.28 to 11.32, but we have some questions that maybe you can helps us clarify. Our setup is:Commserve installed in a cluster configuration with 2 serversWindows Server 2016SQL Server 2016At this moment we are not planning to upgrade to a new Windows version or doing a hardware refresh. Some scenarios we are considering.1) Upgrading only the Commvault packages, by using the Download Software within the Commcell. Is there some downside with staying in SQL Server 2016?2) Upgrading SQL Server + Commvault packages, at the same time, by using the Full Media Kit download (including SQL Server packages). I have tried this in a lab, but it didn't upgrade SQL Server, only Commvault packages.3) Can we upgrade in steps like this?3.1) upgrade just the SQL Server using the 2019 install package included in the Full Media Kit. Upgrade on the passive node, then failover the instance to it, then upgrade the other node.3.2) upgrade the Commvault packages. We are con
Hello Community,Since we have the first customers who can no longer use the Commcell Console or only with great effort due to a new installation 11.34, I am currently trying to find support standard functions in the Command Center again.A classic example: how do I set the debug level of a process and the number of versions of the log files on a Linux client. It was easy until 11.32:https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/expert/configuring_log_file_consettings_in_commcell_console.htmlIn versions 10.x we used to use keys. I found the item “settings” and an “add” button at “manage Servers ...”.Are we going back to that level or have I overlooked a menu item in CommandCenter? Thanks in advanceJoerg
Hello everyone,I am a Solution Architect and Integrator, and I have recently been tasked with migrating our CommVault infrastructure to IaaS virtual machines on Azure. Currently, our environment consists of a CommServe installed on a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine, with a Media Agent and a proxy server each on separate Windows Server 2016 machines. My goal is to migrate the entire solution to Windows Server 2022 virtual machines on Azure, followed by upgrading the CommVault software from 11.28.117 to the last version. It’s important to note that I was not involved in the initial installation or configuration of this CommVault solution. My mandate includes the migration, optimization for the cloud, and maximizing cost efficiency. We are hesitant about exporting the CommVault database from our On-Premise environment and importing it into the new IaaS CommServe, mainly due to the cloud-specific security requirements that are not currently implemented on the On-Premise server. This woul
When I use WORM-enabled storage policy to backup a file. I can see from the Object store logs that the PUT requests include partNumber and uploadID. See the example below.PUT /2.6wormtest/Z5YO4V_09.06.2024_10.43/CV_MAGNETIC/V_342/CHUNK_1294/SFILE_CONTAINER_020?partNumber=1&uploadId=7ffffe6e38ff88e4 HTTP/1.1When using a NONWORM policy to backup the same file, the received PUT request does not include the partNumber or uploadID. See the example below.PUT /windowsnonworm/1DWYIV_09.11.2024_10.49/CV_MAGNETIC/V_8220/CHUNK_84999/SFILE_CONTAINER_001.FOLDER/0 HTTP/1.1" 200My question is, does Commvault not employ multipart upload during a backup with the standard (WORM disabled) policy?
