Hello all, we just installed our new LTO9 tapes library. We tried to make a Tape to Tape Copy from LTO6 (old library) to LTO9 (new library) but after the copy, the new LTO9 tape is marked as full with only 2,36TB of data. Is there a possibility to copy some LTO6 to one LTO9 ?
Hello community,We are looking for a 2nd copy of our Azure workloads.According to this approach you can archive that via a GRS blob storage intend of auxiliary copy. https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/configuring_replication_for_cloud_storage.htmlSo, let’s assume that we have MA1, primary backup server for Azure workloads in Availability Zone 1, with a GRS blob storage as primary cloud storage and a MA2 in Availability Zone 2 (for 2nd copy also with same GRS blob storage). In this scenario, how we will maintain the DDB to MA2 ? Or this approach is only for restore operations (in case of incident MA1)?Please for your feedback,Nikos
My colleague is using Commvault API in python to automate restores We would like to know how can we use the API to switch off one backup policy and to enable new or another one? And how to run a full backup after switching over backup policy?Alternatively how in a given policy delete and add a new instance for backups?Unfortunately, the following documentation is not detailed enough to achieve that? https://api.commvault.com/docs/SP32/api/cv/ScheduleandSchedulePolicyOperations/add-agent-to-schedule-policy/Thank you,
we initiated a support ticket with commvault about metallic which is now commvault cloud and it is related to oracle restoration which is now more than 2 weeks for an urgent restoration and no solution was provided till this moment. When starting a job restoration related to oracle the screen hangs for some time as if it is loading something and after long time it vanishes and does not post any job id in the background. We have been pushing the support team to solve it for quite some time but no proper feedback.
Hi All, Recently we upgrade the CommServe from 11.24 to 11.32 and our monitoring team have advised about one of the server is not running <CommSserve > Required service not running: Commvault Content Extractor (Instance001)<MediaAgent> Required service not running: Commvault Content Extractor (Instance001)When I am looked in Services of Windows or under CommVault process manager, I do not see any such services. Note :Upgrade went successful, Backups/Admin jobs are running fine. I am just trying to verify or confirm before I say them not to monitor that servce.
Hello everyone,11 virtual machines (Win&Linux) located in the vCenter were previously backed up as VMs. This has now been changed to FS backup, the old subclients have been deleted. Since then, OI licences have been assigned to the virtual machines. All machines have the File System + Filesystem Core installed, some also have MSSQL Agent or Oracle. The VMS were discovered by the vCenter/VM backup before the agent was installed. They should therefore count as VMs. This procedure has already been used for many machines, so far there have been no such problemsIs there a best practice on how to fix that behaviour?Regards,Marian
We originally purchased 83TB for File & Object Storage. We originally had 12 file servers on a plan that was “daily for 30, and monthly for 365 days”. We are currently decommissioning all file servers (5 so far) and have migrated to Object Storage with Azure Storage Accounts. This is duplicating our storage quota, and we have now exceeded our purchased 83TB’s by 141% with File & Object Storage sitting at 116.3TB. So, currently with the 5 serves that are offline, I have unassociated the plan, and set the Server to not back up, and retired the server. But this will hold the backups till the retention period of 365days is met, then the data will delete. We are also holding onto the SAN and the old servers encase we need to powerup and access a server in a worst-case scenario for the year. If I delete the server, then all the data in retention will be deleted as well. and we want to be able to restore anything if we come across a file problem. Is there a way to reduce or delete the
Hello Team. I’ve come across Windows media agents with internal data storage in a raid 5/6 stripe (single logical disk in Windows) wherein instead of formatting the disk as a volume and assigning a drive letter to point the library in CV to a mount is created for CV to write the data to the disk. When I questioned the person who did this, his response was that long ago he read in CV docs this was a best practice to follow for security/ransomware prevention purposes; to make it harder for a bad actor who gained access to the server to read files on the volume. I myself vaguely recall this may have been a recommendation in the v8/v9 days. Does anyone have any knowledge of this configuration as a ‘best practice’, any docs ? Any comments as to the effectiveness ?
Hi all,The limitation noted under Limitations of Linux CommServe Server (commvault.com) : So, is it saying that once you go this route of running the CS on Linux you’re stuck on that particular level of MSSQL forever, or, is it saying that we cannot patch SQL separately and Commvault will take care of security updates and such as part of normal Commvault updates? The other question I have is the “Legacy Active Directory Single Sign-On” limitation on that same page - is this saying that SSO works for Azure or that with the RHEL CS SSO is a non-starter regardless?thanks
Hello Community,Lets discus about 2nd (auxiliary) copy in a Cloud Library. In case that need to have a 2nd (auxiliary) copy of on-prem Disk Library to a Cloud Provider (Azure), we have 2 options:Deploy a new MA to Azure, with its own DDB for these aux copies operations. Just configure the blob storage (also with new DDB) to an existing on-prem MA and start aux copies (without any additional MA deployment in Azure). Please for your feedback about these 2 approaches. With option 2, seems that you are going to save some cost from Azure MA VM, but what about optimization, performance and resource utilization? Please for your thoughts!Best regards,Nikos
Hello Commvault Community, After an environment crash, one of the services won't turn on. What is this service and how critical is it? No information in the documentation. Regards,Michał
Hello Everybody, During a meeting with customer where two new HSX clusters were deployed they highlighted the fact that Rocky Linux release 8.9 was out of support.Rocky Linux Release and Version Guide - Rocky Linux Wiki Do we have any plans in future to allow the update of this OS to a higher version or this is something customer should not be worried about? Thanks in advance
Hi all,can someone advice howto proceed with a snap copy in case of loss of the associated datapaths ?In former releases it has been possible to simply create a snapcopy associated with multiple datapaths and set it to use the default path and only alternate paths, if the default path is offline, to store the snap meta data. This was even possible, using non-dedup pools. Now I create a plan, that automatically uses the same (dedup) pool for the snap meta data as for the primary copy. This cannot be changed any longer. if the primary pool goes offline, I’m no longer able to create intellisnap backups, due to missing options to store the meta data.I can use the JavaGUI (not CommandCenter), to promote my secondary copy to primary and continue with sreaming backups, but IntelliSnap backups are no longer possible, because the snap primary is not available and cannot be changed.I’m also not allowed to delete the snap primary using the CommandCenter and create a new one, pointing to a non dedup
I need to extend job retention by the given number of days which will be user input. Is there a particular API to handle this ?
Hello,I tried to authenticate with API request to my CS to run API commands:and I tried to authenticate with my user that has master rule and password ( 64 Base , don’t refer to the words - somepass, someusername, domain)and I receive this message : { "errorMessage": "Access denied", "errorCode": 5} Thank you support.
Hello everyone,I have a customer which runs backups of a DB2 database and need to run backups logs frequently, and everytime we run the backups logs, not only the Logs was running, but also the Data. And this was taking a while to complete, in addition to other issues (such as running command line backups, due to Commvault's default protection behavior). This delay was due to the subclient having both Data and Logs content, and when the Logs backup was executed, Data was also protected. To get around this, a new Plan was created, associating it with the same Storage that the original Plan is associated and having the desired Log backup frequency configured; a new Subclient was created and associated with this new Plan. With this, my question is: when performing the restore in this scenario, could Commvault have any problem? If so, what implications could this have? What the impacts in the restore could happen and what could be the workaround? Thank you.
Hi Team,In Our Infra, We are try to retore the windows system files restore, While try to restore the system state file to other server(out of place restore ) we are getting the below error"Reparse points failed to be restored as this is an out-of-place restore. Please check the restore result for more details "Please suggest or share any solution for the above issueCurrent commServe version: 11.28.24
Hello,We have some oracle database for which the "Archive Delete” option is disabled for both type of backups: datafiles L0/L1 and archive logs at the subclient level. So log backup should never get deleted. There is a schedule attached composed by the regular schedule + an automatic schedule. This is the default setting in our environment and we would like to keep it like that. The idea is this automatic scheduler was triggered and deleted all the archive logs. We can see clearly in the rman logs "archive log all delete input”.My question might be stupid, but is this working as expected? The deletion of the log files... (personally, i believe so)? Even though on the scheduler this option is not selected as well: Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Currently I am on Commvault version 11.24 with SQL Server 2014 and Windows Servers 2016.Will there be any issues with upgrading it to Commvault version 11.36 which is the latest released in June 2024? Will the SQL be upgraded automatically as part of the upgrade?
We want to run two backup jobs on a same VMgroup, using two different server plans which are configured to store backups on two different Object stores. We are also using same media agent; will it cause any issues? Thanks.
Hi Commvault gurus, Could you please advise me on how to add a new Media Agent to an existing backup infrastructure? What am I missing: there is usually a Global Deduplication Storage Pool that has a MediaAgent with its own Deduplication Database (DDB) with one or more partitions on local disks. How can additional MediaAgents access the already existing Deduplication Database partitions, which together with the Storage Library and MediaAgent, create the so-called Storage Pool? After installing the MediaAgent package, is it enough to click on the Deduplication Storage and add the Media Agents to the existing Storage Pool? In general, what are the best practices when extending the infrastructure?Any suggestions will be much appreciated!
Hello,I try to migrate from Storage Policies and Schedule Policies to PlansIf I use CommandCenter to create Plans as substitue of exsting Storage Policies, I can decide whether to keep the first or the last backup for extended retention. But I’m missing the definition for the Start of Period (like 3rd day of month or monady in case of a week). The Plan automatic is set to 1st day of month and friday for weekly period.has the start of period option been removed from future configuration options ?If I start with 11.34 today, I would not be able to modify this or even see the current settingsrgdsKlaus
Dear Alli tried to deploy PostgreSQL in both was remote and interactive installation on Linux Server using Commvault Version 11.32. latest release, however in the installation log the needed package was not found. any idea how i can get it, also i tried to redownload the Linux Packages using Commvault Console download, the job completed successfully however same issue.
We want to define a different Retention for any kind of Log Backups in a Plan.On Storage Policy it was possible to define a dedicate Log Storage Policy. In a Plan I cant see the possibility. We are on 11.32.Are there any way to this or future plans to integrate this for Plan Settings?Thx in advance and Best RegardsMarcel
Hi,I’m currently migrating from StoragePolicies and SchedulePolicies to Plans, as required for new installation beginning with Commvault 2024 (11.34).In the past I requested the backup copy to be started within the same schedule as the backup.if many subclients / VM Groups are triggered at the same time, the backupcopy is started immediatly or queued until free streams are available. If I use the standard asynchronous method, the backup copies are processed per Storage Policy, Jobs to copy are determined at start time of the backup copyjob and do not automatically add new backups, that are finished during time of execution to the backup copy job list. This results in a higher time needed to complete backup + backup copy operations.I cannot find this option in the plans, I created.I’m also missing the option to throttle the amount of paralell backup operations for a client, which I used to simplify the scheduling without overloading the client. Is there an equivalent option available in t
