Hi,I see in the documentation that Azure SQL, Azure PostgreSQL and Azure MySQL do not support incremental/differential backups. My question is, will incremental/differential backups be supported in future releases?I see other services like Azure CosmosDB does support incremental backups, so I wonder if it’s just a matter of time for the others to support the same… Another question would be, how is point in time recovery achieved for these PaaS DBs? I could only find information about log backup for Azure SQL… how would PostgreSQL and MySQL achieve point in time restore? are logs backed up for these too? Thanks!Sergio
Hello, we are planning to install an Azure Stack HCI 23H2 cluster.Does CV (11.28) currently support this version for Backup and Recovery? I find in the documentation “Azure Stack HCI version 20H2 and more recent versions”.Thanks in advance.Jörg

hi guys, i just replaced old MA server to new MA server - the library and access node of cloud apps. when i start backup job for teams, about 5 teams are sucessfull and about 1500 teams failing due to Failed to restore latest metadata files. Manual intervention required due to old or missing files. so i on the access node add “nSkipTeamsMetaDataCheck” - still same backup failing. on the commserve node i add “bShowTeamsConvertJobToFull” run teams backup job and issue persist. there is a CVTeamsBackupLog: 32944 4468 08/14 20:44:02 13920 Downloading metadata files from JobID=11955 for IndexingGUID [D90396AFX4D8CX40EAXBBE3X1E0DEB468560]32944 4468 08/14 20:44:02 11955 CvRemoteFileCacheClient::DownloadFiles Caught error for file [D90396AFX4D8CX40EAXBBE3X1E0DEB468560.zip]: [0xECCC0016:{CvRemoteFileCacheClient::DownloadFiles(1008)} + {CvRemoteFileCacheClient::DownloadFileFromServer(896)/ErrNo.22.(Invalid argument)-Error Code: RFCTransferRespType_Failure received for file [D90396AFX4D8CX40
VMWare Image of Commvault Software with 11.36I have downloaded and imported to the VMware ESXi ,Could you tell me the username & password for this VM? Regards,Li
We just received an alert that the sku for autoscaling is being deprecated. Is there a new one we can use, and I assume an additional setting to define the new sku. I will attempt to use the windows sku, but I fear it may be next in line for deprecation. One or more image versions within the plan commvaultlinuxfr32 from the publisher, commvault, have been scheduled for deprecation. As of August 16, 2024, you have workloads that are running on these images. These workloads will continue to run and will not be impacted. However, additional instances cannot be deployed after the deprecation date.
Hi Everyone, We've got a customer intended to provide BaaS to its customers through Commvault. His main concerns are related to security. As his has customer which have their data located on-prem and which should be protected in the new BaaS. The concern is how the network design should be in order to transmit the data from the end customer DC to the new BaaS platform without exposing all the CommCell nodes to the internet. We heard of Network Gateways, but actually we do not have any clue how this can be done. If Network Gateways is actually the solution in order to only expose other nodes (CS and MAs), does that mean even the Management Plane (Access of the Tenant to the CommandCenter for Backup Management) is transmitted over the NetGw ? Any details regarding this would be nice, thanks in advance. Regards.
We want to have Azure Blob containers Immutable feature turned ON.Primary - Incremental - 30Days - AzureBlobContainer1Monthly Full backup Extended retention - 365Days - AzureBlobContainer1With Commvault Deduplication.Commvault DDB resides on the Media Agent. How so we handle DDB and the extended retention of INCR and Full on the Container1? Will the data on the container1 expire post INCR has reached its retention for 30Days? Currently we are not sealing our DDB. Do we need to seal the DDB when using Azure Immutable storage? Can we have one Azure Immutable blob and inside them have multiple folders with multiple retention? How does Commvault Retention linked with Azure blob Immutable - Access Policy - Retention Interval? What if Azure Retention Interval on AzureBlobcontainer1 is set for 30Days and My Commvault retention is for 365Days. what happens to the same data on 31st day?
Good Day Community,Few questions regarding Auto Recovery from VMware to Azure AVS (Azure VMware Solution).First, I do not see clearly on the documentation site if Auto-Recovery supports VMware to AVS replication (although it is VMware to Vmware (theoretically), I’d still like to validate if it is supported.Second, will the restore still be an incremental restore.Thisrd, if the customer decides to go with Auto-Recovery between VMware and standard Azure VMs instead of AVS, will the restore still be an incremental restore. Many thanks in advance for your kind help.
OK, have CommVault running on a windows server, And would like to back up a ESXI server and associated SANS. Any suggestions on how to go about doing this.
HiI am trying to install a couple of Linux clients as part of an Oracle RAC Cluster backup/restore test we are running. We haven’t used Oracle RAC before so all a bit new, but when i try and install the two clients we have the install fails with this error.RNG error number from CVwhen i check the SW Cache details cannot see that it is disabled or how it could enabled/disabled etc. i can see the SW cache in the CommCell browser and no where does it give me the option to enable or disable it? In the Web UI dont even really get the to be able to view the cache (manage>system>maintenance does not include anything that calls itself an SW cache but hey why would the commcell browser and web ui call things the same!!!!!)I am at a loss as to what i need to change?Version 11.32.xx (2023E)ThanksJames
I’m trying to launch a backup copy manually for testing purposes but it fails with the following error. Here is the log produced by this attempt.@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@Machine : comcellmachineFile : JobManager.log@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@2908 22f8 05/22 15:25:28 3075603 Servant [---- IMMEDIATE BACKUP COPY WORKFLOW request ----], taskid [49503], SP [samplepolicy]2908 22f8 05/22 15:25:28 3075603 Database No jobs to be materialized, ret = 2202908 22f8 05/22 15:25:28 3075603 JMGUIReport2::sendJobCompleted Sent job completed message to GUI.Launching an auxiliary copy works ok. Hi all, we notice that at https://github.com/Commvault/terraform-provider-commvault, the latest update is a year old. I can’t imagine that this is finished and bug-free. Can somebody update me on the future of this project? Is it abandoned? Thanks!
Hello,it is possible to deploy a Command center in Windows OS into a Linux Commserve on rhel ?because i need SSO for customer’s authentication. Kind regards, Christophe
Does Commvault provide a backup sizing tool (primary and secondary copies) which enables the calculation of the required storage capacity for the FET based on the required retention periods?
Hi there,I backup a vm group on tape library for some technical reasons. For some backup jobs, data written on tape and Index information written on another tape. Can I include index information into backup data so I make sure that both be written on the same tape ?
HiWe have configured out DDB to spread across 4 Windows virtual machines. Out of 4 VMs we have lost access to 2 VMs. Backups are running as expected by using the remaining 2 VMs with DDB on that. Now we have freshly built new 2 VMs with Media Agent application components installed. My question is, how we can recover the DDB fragments which hosted on two lost VMs ? Is there a way to reconstruct the lost sections on to newly built 2 VMs ?We are on version 11.28.(2022 E).Appreciate your advise. Please feel free to ask any questions if you need further clarifications. Many thanks in advance.
Good morning,I have the following question to ask:In a Disaster Recovery scenario, how do I restore a VM from the Metallic backup to a new infrastructure? In my case in a new Nutanix cluster?Thank youCarmine
Hi All,- disk library DL1 with mount path X:\DL1- mount path X:\DL1 Capacity 100TB with Allocation Policy - Space Allocation "Do not consume more than 50TB" Q1. refer above, may we know Space Management - Space Thresholds refer which value for calculate %? 100TB or 50TB Q2. if Space Management - Start aging when data occupied on disk is 80%, will aging never start if refer value 100TB? Best regards
We have a number of Windows 2012 VMs running on ESX. We are standing up new Windows 2022 server VMs to house the data on these VMs. The goal is to swing Datastores from the old VMs to the new VMs. Except for the OS, the VMs will be setup identically. Now, the Commvault backups for this data has been on unlimited hold since the dawn of time. The servers themselves hold a grand total of about 100TB of files. One AUX copy of the backup data is about 1PB in size. I don’t want to add any more to this unlimited hold data copy. If I keep the Commvault node name the same, can I avoid another full backup event for this data? Or will the unique system identifier foil my plan? I want it to back each server up incrementally on the first pass. (backing up only changed/new files). Whaddaya think? Thanks!
Hello Commvault Community, A few days ago I configured some Auxiliary copy job from local MA to Cloud Library in Azure. I have noticed that some of the job use only one steam for the copy data. I am looking for reason why that behavior it takes place. The configuration is very simple:Media Agent with local copy → second copy in storage account Azure but connected to the same MA. I have the same configuration, but in different storage policy and in there the Copy is ongoing on tens of streams not only 1. Please help me to find out the reason of that property. Regards, Michal
Hi All.Can someone please explain how data aging functions on an Indexing job?Referring to "https://community.commvault.com/self-hosted-q-a-2/why-are-index-server-jobs-agent-type-big-data-apps-being-retained-on-storage-longer-than-the-storage-policy-indicates-5132".I have a storage policy with several copies to different libraries. This is a mix of disk, S3 and S3 with Object Lock enabled. There are several Indexing Jobs which reside on the S3 library with Object Lock enabled but the dependent backup jobs are located on a different selective copy. Is there a way to have the Indexing jobs kept with the backup jobs or is this by design? The issue here is that the Object Lock enabled library is configured with 90 days retention and the other S3 library is configured with long-term retention varying between 365 days to 1825 days. The above behaviour is preventing the sealed DDBs from being removed when all backup jobs have met retention as the Indexing jobs are retained.I have seen the inform
How to 100% verify the policy is in use, or has been ?

Hi Vaulters, Hope everyone is doing well.We have a new commvault platform that will be installed, and we’ve been asked by our storage team what are the LUNs size that are needed for backed up data. In order for them to create and map them to our MediaAgents. So, it’s a sizing question. Are there any recommendations per Commvault or utility that can be used to help us decide what’s the best storage configuration will fit our needs ? Knowing that our platform will back up multiple workloads : VMs, FileSystems, DBs (SAP HANA), Mailboxes (Exchange), Active Directory ...etc. Any recommendation from you guys would be much appreciated.RegardS.
