Hello, can someone explain, how DDBs are queried, if new DDBs for a specific purpose are created ?Looking at the figures below, the VMs are leveraged among both DDBs, while only the initially used DDB has a severe amount of primary hash references.I know, that a new DDB is created and subclients are reassociated if a DDB reaches its limits (Q&I time and/or # of hashes), but I always assumed, that after the reassociation, some of the data is again identified as unique. The picture below let me assume, that old references are still honored and only new hashed are added to the currently associated DDB. If this was true, a new horizontal DDB does not automatically require additional space in the backend. thanksKlaus
Can someone knows on how to lists all the subclient backup jobs history using cvpysdk? Any sample syntax that we can follow?
Is there a setting that only certain IPs can access when connecting to Commvault Command Center?
Recently, for a brief period, multi-factor authentication was required when logging into Commvault sites (Maintenance Advantage / Support Portal, Expert Documentation, etc). Is there any way to have that re-enabled for the Maintenance Advantage / Support Portal? It would be great if Expert Documentation didn't required MFA, it would be even better if Expert Documentation didn't require authentication at all.
Hello,We are preparing to upgrade Commvault Servers to the version 11.32.56 from 11.28.56. We have a total of 6 servers in Commvault architecture as below. Please suggest how to proceed with the upgrade in sequence.
Our container SME noticed that there was a new namespace created a couple days ago which appears “empty” for the most part. This page talks about it but sort of implies it requires manual steps to set up.Nobody did anything to push this into the cluster, and, we protect 4 distinct clusters with cvlt yet only one of them has this new namespace in it. All 4 are backing up just fine (all namespaces that is) so, what is it and why does it appear to be randomly created in our clusters?thanks!
NDMP Backups completed with errors due to following error:NDMP Server [] reported the following error: [DUMP: Error: The pathname 'java' is not allowed since it is either a junction or a symlink] Nevertheless Commvault shows 0 failed files or folders. Is anything can be done to make those backups green (complete without errors)?
Hi,We would like to implement an airgapped environment for critical backup copies to remain isolated. This environment must be controlled completely on its own (from inside) so instead of Commvault’s airgap approach, we are thinking of using hardware replication provided by our backup storage appliance in which the disk library resides (OceanProtect).I understand that a Replica Library would let me use the hardware replicated disk library as read-only.Will this work even if the replication is not continuous, but configured to run only at a specific time? (meaning that the replicated disk library won’t always have the latest data). Would we be able to use the same or a standby MediaAgent to access that data? In case the original disk library is compromised and cannot be recovered, would there be a way of using the Replica Library as the main disk library (like replicating everything back to the source backup appliance and restarting normal operations)? Can we use the Commserve’s DR backu
I need to find out tape library WWPN details, can some one help quciky??
Hello, Please help me with the following question:Our primary copy will be stored in a backup appliance. Hardware deduplication will be used so we will disable Commvault’s deduplication for that copy. Our secondary copy will go to a object storage (on-premises). That storage can also deduplicate but the achievable reduction ratio is nowhere near what Commvault’s dedup can provide. So we would need to enable Commvault’s dedup for that copy.Isn’t it contradictory that CV’s dedup is disabled for primary but still needs to be enabled for secondary? what would be the right strategy for deduplication when having a backup appliance and a object storage in our backup environment? Would it be better just to use CV’s dedup and not take advantage of HW dedup? Thanks for the help!
In Metallic, as per the plans weekly selective full backup is configured but weekly synthetic full backup is running and monthly full is running. how it is possible?
I had several hundred tapes destroyed in a fire at our archive facility. Is there an easy way to mark approximately 1400 tapes bad all at once, vs clicking each tape and manually marking each one bad?How can I go about verifying the data that was on these tapes is no longer counting against my licensed capacity?
There are a few companies now offering Microsoft 365 tenant configuration backups for disaster recovery. (not individual applications, the tenant configuration itself) There is the Microsoft365DSC Powershell module that can be used to do this. Wondering if Commvault has a plan to include this? Would be nice to integrate it into Commvault.

Hello fellow Commvaulters, I hope someone can help. We had a case recently raised with Commvault where data that was used to restore data from Azure Archive to Hot Storage. However even though the job completed months ago, it was noticed by our Cloud Services Team that the data was still sitting in Hot Tier Storage which was costing a premium. Commvault’s documentation states the below. However does anyone know how we can empty this container manually? Second question is the below states “Move back data from Hot to Archive”. Where is this option on the workflow? I couldn’t see it? There is an option to tick “Auto-archive recalled files on restore job completion”. This was ticked for our recall, but still the data remained in Hot Tier. Surely this should not be the case? ThanksTonyQ If you execute the workflow with backup job as input, execute the workflow again and select the Move back data from Hot to Archive option when prompted. Data will be deleted from the cvshadowcopy-do
hi ,as part of hardware refresh we are moving all data to new storage pool, we have storage policy retetnion is 1 year and archival subclient for which retention is inifite are in this SP , when i created aux copy with all jobs its skipped all the jobs which is aged as per SP but jobs are available as per the subclient retetnion , i tried manually pick the job but there are no option how can i copy all the jobs , do i need to recopy it ?
I need to be able to assign access to only the Auto Recovery features. This would include “Replication Groups” “Replication Targets” and “Replication Monitor”. This Role would need to be able to create replication pairs in Azure using the Command Center.I don not want to allow any other access to systems, including deleting or managing VMs outside of Auto Recovery. Is this possible. Essentially looking for the minimum amount of permissions required to permit this task.Thanks.
Hi all,When adding CommVault Cloud (MRR) to on-prem - HSSX v3, Adding the Cloud Library only allowed a single node to be selected. Do you then have to share the Cloud Storage Pool to add the remaining HSX nodes and only then get an option to create additional DDB partitions, it seems to have changed since last time, are the partitions created when the additional nodes start to pick up backup jobs. Or do i still need to create the DDB/Cloud/P1 P2 and so on. CheersJules
Hi, looking for someone to confirm what I’m seeing on a RHEL CS with regards to the Java-based Scheduler as seen from the Console. While Limitations of Linux CommServe Server (commvault.com) doesn’t speak about this, to me it looks like the calendar is foobar. There’s no way to see what’s scheduled (details) for any day and all schedules are basically absent, yet, plans run, etc. So can someone check whether this is deprecated or if it needs some special attention to get functional again? I’ve made great strides moving things to plans but I still find the old Console tools to be quite beneficial when figuring out when runtimes are roughly. In our case it seems nearly impossible to completely do away with old style schedules, OnDemand backupsets being one such case.thanks
Where can i find the health report that tells me the heath of the my platform. Not just the critiical, good, or info example page . I am looking for where on the command center it tells me what’s not up to date or is all set. I did find it under the health page. Thanks in advance.
Hello, Any information about when commvault support ESXI 8.0.3??
Hi together,I would like to understand how encryption works in detail. The situation: I am using client side encryption (at the source) and I want to use encrypted (or authenticated) network traffic between client and media agent. When I am using encrypted network traffic, all information (backup data and meta data … i.e. index, jobsresults) is encrpyted at the source (client) and decrypted at the target (media agent). The encryption/decryption is consuming CPU … of course.Does Commvault indentify that the backup data is already encrypted in this situation … or will the data be encrypted a second time for the network traffic … wasting my CPU? Or is Commvault only encrypting the meta-data for the network traffic?Best regards.Michael
Friends,I want to use a script to retire/delete VMs from Commvault when the last backup is at a certain age. As we are a tenant customer, we don’t have options like Workflows. So I build a Powershell script to collect data, do different checks and fire Rest calls to Commvault.I can delete via the following command and this works fine:Invoke-RestMethod -Method 'Delete' -Headers $headers -Uri $($url + "/v4/virtualmachines/$UUID") But I can’t find the option to Retire the VM !And important in this case that I only retire the VM backup, not the client, as FS and SQL backups might be still in use. Anyone who knows how to Retire a VM using Rest-API ? Thanks in advance, Maurice
Hello,Please can you help me with the following:I would like to know how does WORM work with appliances like Data Domain or StoreOnce in comparison with object storage systems, where the needed capacity is doubled when using object lock. Is the capacity requirement for backup storage appliances also doubled? Thanks in advance!
Hi,I have a situation in one of my customers. Case 240503-407 .Here is the situation : the customer start with a 3 nodes HSX cluster with 24x16TB diskHe adds a fourth node, and because of a shortage of 16TB disk availability he goes with 20TB disk (also with 768GB of ram)Now if we look at the disks on an 16TB node we see :/dev/sdn 17T 13T 3.7T 78% /hedvig/d15/dev/sdc 17T 14T 3.4T 80% /hedvig/d4/dev/sde 17T 13T 3.7T 78% /hedvig/d6/dev/sdw 17T 13T 3.7T 78% /hedvig/d24/dev/sdd 17T 13T 3.8T 78% /hedvig/d5and if we look at the disks on a 20TB node we see :/dev/sdt 19T 14T 4.3T 77% /hedvig/d22/dev/sdx 19T 14T 4.5T 76% /hedvig/d26/dev/sde 19T 14T 4.4T 77% /hedvig/d7/dev/sdf
