We have an incremental backup that ran on 29 August and completed at 19:11. The storage policy has retention set to 7 day and 2 cycles. On 10 September we unable to restore that data because it has aged. Based on our understanding that backup should only have aged on 12 September before the 2 cycles completed.What could be the reason for this “early aging” of that job?JobStorage policy retention

Hi All, if only one tape drive and library have cleaning tape, when aux copy to tape progress e.g. 50% and tape drive detect error require clean tape drive Q1. CommServe setup tape library auto clean with sense code, will backup job auto continue after CommServe auto use the cleaning tape if clean the tape drive successful? Q2. If Q1 backup job auto continue, will it backup star from 0 or 50%? Q3. CommServe setup tape library auto clean with sense code, refer below job management, will backup job pending or waiting or failed after CommServe use the cleaning tape clean the tape drive but unsuccessful over 200 minutes (restart interval mins 20 x max restart 10)? Best regards 

Hello, Is it possible for commvault to generate a report of all the files backed up on a drive? example the D drive? including the size of the files or how about the top 50 or 100 largest files? If so can this be done through commcell or would it be better using the command center? Thanks for any help in advance

Hello,I was provided with the commvault system by the company I work for. I was left alone, other administrators who dealt with it left. My question may be simple, but it would speed up my work a bit, especially since it worked before. Every week I restore virtual machines (HYPER-V) to a server that is only used to restore these virtual machines, and an additional backup which is then kept on a server where the network is disconnected. The screenshot shows how I do it and I have to select "Destination Client". The server where I want to perform this restore is not visible on the list, so I have to add the server and the user to be able to connect and perform this restore, but I do it for several machines and I have to enter this server manually each time, and it used to be displayed on the list .How to make the server that wants restores appear on the list automatically. Hi,is there an option available, that skips IntelliSnap Snap Backups, when Backup Copy operations are currently running for the subclient ?On NetApp FAS Systems, a new hardware snapshot cannot be created, while a volume clone is active.For some of the backups on large subclients, this leads to failed backups from time to time.This in my environment, this happens to some of the sublients once a month (4-weekly, before switching from Storage Policies to Plans)Instead of defining Blackout Windows to statically define when snap backups are to be skipped, it can also be helpful to simply skip the snap backup request, when the subclient is active with a backup copy or mount for restore operation.rgdsKlaus

Can I restore NetApp (NDMP) backup files to an online SharePoint?

Hello, customer is managing SAP HANA backups from DB side via backint. He want to create special 3rd copy of his online full backups.On commvault side, DB backups are taken by DB_backup storage policy and log backups are taken by Log_backup storage policy. As per my understanding, due to whole backup process is controlled by HANA Studio (or similar tool), Commvault cannot control what and when is backed up and therefore is kind of blind. I was able to setup aux copy of monthly Online full backups to S3 library. We are now testing restore from S3 library (it is 3rd copy), but is failing. Failure reason is caused by absence of log backups. Customer now wants to schedule aux copy of Log jobs related to the particular Monthly Online full. I am, however, not sure if it is possible due to mechanism of backups - as I mentioned, they are taken by DB itself and therefore I expect Commvault is not able to “choose” needed log jobs. Conclusion: Is it possible to fulfill customer expectation and sc

Hello,we back up PostgreSQL 15 databases as FSBasedBackupSet. The databases run on Linux RHEL9 VMs. Commvault copies the PGDATA directory as a file system after calling the pg_backup_start and performing a database quiescing. The backup runs online, which means that applications that could update the data, are running in parallel. If the database is large, the backup may end with "Completed with one or more errors". The reason for this is: Some files that the job scanned and collected in its CVFfiles are deleted. So we get something like this:ClBackupFile::OpenFilesForBackup(7273) - Could not specify path '/data/postgres/db/as15/tabWe then started setting some paths in the additional sPGDirIgnoreList Parameter to exclude deleted files. This resulted in a backup job with return code 0 instead of "Completed with one or more errors".But then some of the missing files seemed to be part of the database base directory. Hi,I see in the documentation that Azure SQL, Azure PostgreSQL and Azure MySQL do not support incremental/differential backups.My question is, will incremental/differential backups be supported in future releases?I see other services like Azure CosmosDB does support incremental backups, so I wonder if it’s just a matter of time for the others to support the same… Another question would be, how is point in time recovery achieved for these PaaS DBs? I could only find information about log backup for Azure SQL… how would PostgreSQL and MySQL achieve point in time restore? are logs backed up for these too? Thanks!Sergio

We have a number of Windows 2012 VMs running on ESX.    We are standing up new Windows 2022 server VMs to house the data on these VMs.   The goal is to swing Datastores from the old VMs to the new VMs.   Except for the OS, the VMs will be setup identically. Now, the Commvault backups for this data has been on unlimited hold since the dawn of time.   The servers themselves hold a grand total of about 100TB of files.    One AUX copy of the backup data is about 1PB in size.    I don’t want to add any more to this unlimited hold data copy.     If I keep the Commvault node name the same, can I avoid another full backup event for this data?   Or will the unique system identifier foil my plan?    I want it to back each server up incrementally on the first pass. (backing up only changed/new files).    Whaddaya think? Thanks!

Hello Commvault Community, A few days ago I configured some Auxiliary copy job from local MA to Cloud Library in Azure. I have noticed that some of the job use only one steam for the copy data. I am looking for reason why that behavior it takes place. The configuration is very simple:Media Agent with local copy → second copy in storage account Azure but connected to the same MA. I have the same configuration, but in different storage policy and in there the Copy is ongoing on tens of streams not only 1. Please help me to find out the reason of that property. Regards, Michal
