Hello; We are getting a new media agent, along with a new storage library, and I want to replace the old media agent and storage library. Once I have the new stuff setup I am debating how to replace the old media agent Under every storage policy and plan, create a new copy that writes to the library. Copy all jobs to that new copy, then retire the old media agent Move the DDB and move the old library mount paths to the new storage library. (https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/moving_mount_path_to_new_location.html) Just wondering if anyone else has replaced the media agent. Which method did you go with?
Hello, We have a spare netapp that we want to use as a commvault destination for backup. We have try to use only the netapp deduplication/compression writing directly to the library but the result is only 1% saving, the backup are not encrypted so I was expecting something better. Anyone else has some experience trying to use it. Does commvault store the backup in disk library in a block format that is not compressable even if we are not using the commvault deduplication. ThanksLuc
Hi! I’d like to control or set number of streams for data backup for all subclients and instances in given agent type globally. So for example all postgres subclients are protected using 4 data streams. Is there a default value that can set during subclient configuration? How to set specific value for currently configured subclients to given value? (other then looping through all clients, all agents, all instances, all backupsets via API).
Dear Commvault Experts In Commvault Doc, it defines Data Aging as: “Data Aging is the process of removing old data from secondary storage to allow the associated media to be reused for future backups.” Q1:What is “secondary storage” ??If I use an EMC storage, such as EMC VMAX array as a destination to save the backed up data, is this EMC storage array “secondary storage”? Q2:If I set storage policy’s retention to be 7days/1 cycle, as well as enable the “Enable Data Aging” feature, in or after 8th day, will the backed up data be erased from the EMC storage? Thanks for any hint or direction!
Dear Commvault Experts, My MS SQL AG cluster has a primary replica, as well as a secondary replica,I have create a Commvault client for backup in Commcell, I am curious that, which AG’s replica will be used as a source that is being accessed by Commvault backup feature? Is it primary replica or secondary replica of AG? Appreciate any help or suggestion! Thanks
Hi community,we have a lot of LTO9 tapes with only few Index Jobs on them (Jobs are in megabyte range) and I would like to re-use these LTO9 tapes (17.58 TB) for other tape-out copies. When these jobs will expire, nobody knows. Is there any way to copy still valid index jobs to another tape?Pick for refresh, tape to tape copy…?Thanks
Hello All, For the past 2 weeks, we have been experiencing the following issues. All IntelliSnap operations are extremely slow. This affects VMware, Volume Snapshot and Exchange. We use IntelliSnap for this and have NetApp storage behind it. Globally, the behavior is the same everywhere. Locations with OnTap 9.15 and also OnTap 9.11. Not only individual locations are affected, but all of them.Even sites with their own physical media agents. In other words, the error occurs everywhere. We have tried everything. The Commserv is not overloaded. It has 4 socks and 16 cores.128GB RAM. The SQL database is also not busy or extremely overloaded. What steps did I take:- Moved Commserv to another VMware cluster.- DB Maintenance- Installed SQL and Windows updates.Started a job, same phenomenon. Our network team has carried out all kinds of performance tests. No abnormalities.Commserv and media agents are in the same VLAN.The support team has opened 2 cases and filed them under VMware and File Snapshot.
Hello We are using Exchange Mailbox archiving with +10 year retention. For a couple of years we have been using Content Indexing for these jobs, but it’s not needed any more. We have disabled CI and it’s valid for next archiving jobs, but how to clean up previous Content Indexing entries (without deleting archiving jobs)? We would like just to free up space on CI disks as it’s not required any more. As far as I know this procedure - https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/deleting_content_index_of_specific_backup_job.html - points to Indexing V1 and we don’t have such option in our job history menu. Kind regards,Maciek
Hi Team,I have an interesting scenario. After a lot of persuasion, one of our customers is considering a retention-reduction on non-critical data. But they have asked me if I can work out how much disk space may be returned by this process. The data is deduplicated. So the question I have:-Does anyone know of a report which can show disk space returned for deduplicated data? This might not be as straightforward as it sounds, since I will need to work with 20 or 30 clients, delete data that is over than a few months old but somehow collect details on expected space-savings, or disk-space to be returned.it would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had a similar scenario and how you managed to obtain the figures (if this is actually possible). Thanks
Hi, We are on 11.32.59. We have DDB configured on storage pool with storage as netapp storage grid. We have maximum storage policies with 30 days retention and one storage policy with one year retention. All using the same storage pool..We are planning to enable the WORM storage lock. What is Impact of WORM storage lock on storage growth?I read in the 11.28 BOL that the seal frequency will be set same as Max retention and WORM lock is set to (retention days+seal freq) days.https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/configuring_worm_storage_mode_on_cloud_storage.htmlWe are trying to understand approximate storage growth on existing library. Can any one please advise.
hi, we have s3 compatible cloud storage and we have multiple customers in a single commcell each with their own cloud bucket. Sometime the space on the storage is reclaimed only when space reclamation is run. According to your document that says - “Use the space reclamation feature to reclaim idle space on non-supported sparse files storage” - how can I find if our cloud supports this or not. Only our disk storage mount paths say “supports sparse” or “not support sparse” but there is no such thing for cloud mount path. Why data aging does not clear up the space and needs space reclamation to clean up. how often should I run this?
Hello guys, I have a question, for tape to tape copy for speed is very slower than disk to tape is this true?here the tape to tape copy is still in 1 library but when disk to tape it gets a throughput of 600-800 while tape to tape is only 20GB/HrThanks
Hi all, I would like to ask you if it is possible to add NFS share as Disk library in the CV. If so, is it necessary to mount the NFS share to the media agent before adding it?
Hi All,What is the easiest way of seeing backup expiration dates across all backups I know you can view jobs against each storage policy and and download to excel but is there not a report that shows expiration date for all backups. Thanks in advance
Hi dears,I'm searching some info on how Commvault deduplication works and would like to ask: is it correct that the Commvault SQL database MMLibraryHistory table is used to maintain archive file delete records? Thanks for supportgivvi
Hi Experts, anyone seen this error before on data verification task I run after aux copy failed to read chunk from Storeonce disk to be copied to another storeonce catalyst stores. Hi everyone,I have a question regarding the compatibility of HPE StoreOnce Catalyst with an air gap storage solution.Current Setup:HPE StoreOnce - Currently configured as the primary target backup storage and a Catalyst storage.New Addition:HPE DL380 server - Intended to be used as air gap storage.Question:Is it possible to utilize the new HPE DL380 server as an air gap storage solution while maintaining the existing HPE StoreOnce Catalyst as the primary backup storage? Thank you for your time and assistance.
Hi Guys, i have Quatum scalar i3 tape library, which is connected to the MA via 8 GB FC link. The library has one LTO 8 drive and also the Active Vault licence. what i want ? every friday synthetic backup to tape - i have dedicated 20 LTO8 media in Online, Partition, after backup the media will be exported to the offline partiton in the library. every day bigdata index and DR to the another for example 2-4 media, these media will be online in library and not exported after backup to offline partition, because DR and indexes use only about 20 Gb per day and LTO8 has 11 TB = wasting of tapes. How to configure it ? any advices ?
Hi Experts , I have been task to migrate data from 7 years retention Tapes to our new store once catalyst stores library. The original tape library is already no hardware support and broken and it is also in a different CommCell. after merging the CommCell clients. I am able to see the Tapes storage policy copy ( the primary copy is on a disk storage which is also not recoverable any more.) I am thinking to use aux copy but from console it seem I can only copy the tape to another tape using the new tape library on loaner for migration purpose by HP. Is there a way to use the loaner tape library read the tapes and direct copy to the Store once catalyst stores?
which is better. Which commvault does the encryption or does the storage do it?
HiIs there a way to have commvault re-order the sequence of tapes in a library eg move the lowest sequence barcode to slot 1, the next to slot 2 etc
Hello,I have a DDB Reconstruct running of a secondary copy that writes on Storage S3, the DDB backup writes on both S3 and CentricStor, i want to restore the DDB from the CentricStor library but it always try to restore from the S3. How can i force the restore from 1 specific library? This DDB is partitioned and only 1 partition is offline. Thanks,João Amaral
We have incremental backup copy jobs failing due to lack of free space during index restore; I was reviewing the Index cache and noticed F:\IndexCache\CV_SnapMetadata\2\3568\1737471697 showing over 239GB of metadata. From what I understand this folder will have all the indexing metadata from all the Intellisnap incremental jobs; this specific job have not had a full backup(I am investigating the reason) for some time. If I were to take new full backup what will happen during the backup copy; would it still try and restore historical incremetal index data as historical incrmental backups have not copied across or because this is a new full it will only copy the most recent backup copy. What if I manually delete the old snapshot and just keep the most recent would that avoid incremental backup copies and just copy the full backup without restoring index and would it clean up this metadata
we had exchange archive to the primary storage policy which was hyperscale x 1.5 , and an aux copy to windows with local disk , the jobs in the primary copy is cleared .hyperscale x primary → first aux copynow as part of the hardware refresh we introduced new windows server and copied from second copy first aux copy → second copy but we are seeing a diffrence in the media size , 0 tb diffrence first copy second copy
Can anyone advise on best configuration for using Isilon as back end storage for on prem Commvault. Would you use Linux or Windows Media Agents ?
