Auxcopy Live sync replication

Size on disk and unique Blocks Larger tha application size and savings 0%

Hi,We have a deduplication Database that it doesn’t seem to deduplicate at all and is ocupying more than we guess it should be.that DDB only backups VMs ans the deduplication ratings showed in the DDB are horrible and it caused that the library is full.   Best regards.

HSX adding CommVault Cloud MRR

Hi all,When adding CommVault Cloud (MRR) to on-prem - HSSX v3, Adding the Cloud Library only allowed a single node to be selected. Do you then have to share the Cloud Storage Pool to add the remaining HSX nodes and only then get an option to create additional DDB partitions, it seems to have changed since last time, are the partitions created when the additional nodes start to pick up backup jobs. Or do i still need to create the DDB/Cloud/P1 P2 and so on. CheersJules

Health Report errors

Where can i find the health report that tells me the heath of the my platform. Not just the critiical, good, or info example page . I am looking for where on the  command center it tells me what’s not up to date or is all set. I did  find it under the health page. Thanks in advance.

WORM with backup storage appliance

Hello,Please can you help me with the following:I would like to know how does WORM work with appliances like Data Domain or StoreOnce in comparison with object storage systems, where the needed capacity is doubled when using object lock. Cloud Libraries and AWS Combined Storage Tiers

Hey guys,I’m currently using S3 IA for my cloud libraries (dedupe used) and  looking to reduce costs. The combined storage tiers look promising, in particularly Intelligent Tearing/Glacier. Has anyone got any experience in using this, and can offer some insight into its suitability? Cheers,Steve

Cycles and Days Retention with Compliance Lock for Decommissioned Clients

After the recent recommendation notice, we’re looking to turn on Compliance Lock for our air-gapped Aux Copy, which uses Metallic Recovery Reserve as the cloud storage.The copy currently has a retention set to 28 days and 2 cycles.Our VM backups are set to back up via datastore, with Commvault automatically assigned each VM as it’s own “subclient”.  I’m seeing situations where a VM is deleted from VMware and the backup is being kept in the aux copy because it’s trying to retain 2 cycles, even though the server no longer exists.  We obviously would not want this to happen when Compliance Lock was turned on as there would be backups for decommissioned servers hanging around forever.  I’m guessing something similar would happen for other server that do have their own clients, were you to try and remove them.Does anybody know the best way to deal with retention in this scenario?Thanks

Data Verification on DDB

Hello,I am running Data Verification on a DDB. The Total Application Size of the DDB is 930TB. Does the Data Verification job need to process then entire 930TB? I’m not getting accurate estimated completion time as the job is showing as 99% complete with 600TB processed. It keeps adding more jobs for processing. Just want to make sure that I am on the right track.Thanks in advance.Fergus

Wanting to make sure this is Accurate on Quarterly retentions and Data aging

Question: I asked Gemini ai the following question below and want to make sure that this is correct way of understanding the retention of a Quarterly retention and data aging. Inside of Commvault when you have storage policies with quarterly retentions, how does the data that is backed up under that policy affect the license? Since it happens once a quarter does Commvault hold on to the data being backed up under the storage policy that counts towards the license? In Commvault, when you have storage policies with quarterly retentions, the data backed up under that policy will count towards your license usage for the entire duration of the retention period. Global Deduplication Storage Policies don't appear in the Subclient Storage Policy pull down list.

I cannot associate a Global Deduplication Storage Policy to my Subclient,  it doesn't appear in the Storage Policy pull down list.   CommServe Version: 11.28.44.

Infinidat with Intellisnap

Can anyone advise on how to integrate Infinidat with Commvault Intellisnap. Can we Use Commvault aux copies to copy the app-consistent primary snapshots to another storage array Or Commvault storage.Will these remote copy snapshots will be revert capable ?

Hi all!could you advice me how to troubleshoot following types of error: Error Code: [13:138] Description: Error occurred while processing chunk [xxx] in media [xxx], at the time of error in library [disklib01] and mount path [[xxx] /srv/commvault/disklib01/xxx], for storage policy [XXX] copy [Xxx] MediaAgent [svma1]: Backup Job [xxx]. Unable to setup the copy pipeline. Please check connectivity between Source MA [svma1] and Destination MA [svma1].  At a glance, it seems that it is not possible for CV to process chunk from the (index?)/disk library...However, the issue is connected with storage policy copy, that moves data from the disk library to the tape library (secondary copy). The main problem for us is that it is not possible to copy data to the tapes. Therefore, it may say Unable to setup the copy pipeline. The media agent is one server/device, that communicates with both disk and tape library. Lastly, the files in the related directories dont seem to be corrupted...Any suggesti

Clarification on Data Size Changes After Migrating to Azure Using Azure Data Box

Hello Community,I’m currently in the process of migrating archive backups to Azure using Azure Data Box. I have a specific question regarding the overall size of data after migration. Could someone provide insights into whether there might be any changes to the data size during this process? If so, what kind of differences should I take into account? Questions about configuring immutable copy on azure and worm protection in commvault

Hi All, Our environment is a mid size enterprise setup, we have around 250 servers hosted on On-Prem and Azure. We have configured sync copy to azure with retentions of 10 years for the On-Prem servers and for servers on Azure we have just 1 copy of backup. We would like to have immutable copy on azure and worm protection in commvault. It would be really grateful if anyone can list down the steps and precautions to be taken along with price calculator. We would like to have a weekly full backup with 14 days retention and 2 cycles on this copy.We would also like to know if deduplication is supported? and what preferred storage type (Hot/Cold) on Azure is preferred.Can we use existing media agent which is being used for Sync copy to perform the copy on this selective copy?Does this solution offer a complete end to end protection from cyber attack/ransomware?

Can we run existing MAs without DDB & IndexCache after migrating them to new MA

Hello,We are having two physical media agents with shared disk library (CIFS) and tape library connected to them. We want to virtualize these media agents, however, after virtualizing we want to run the existing physical MAs for some time due to backup retention on the tape library.We want to setup new virtual MA, migrate the DDB & IndexCache to new virtual. Now the existing physical media is left with the tape library and no DDB/Index. Is it possible to perform restores from the tape library using these physical MAs?Idea is to run the new backups using virtual MAs and turn the physical MAs off when retention on the tape library expires. Thanks.

Exchange backups. File level backup on the servers and backups of the DAGS.

Hello, hopefully i have this request in the proper place and it has not been asked before.So I have 2 exchange environments because where is the fun in just having one. I currently have a 2013 exchange env. running 2013. Dag1also an exchange 2019 system. Dag2  My ask is.. We are only interested in backing up the databases within the dags. Which is happening and no issues, but today I was looking at capacity usage and I notice that all the DAGS are part of a multi server setup, and these servers are also doing a file level backup, to me it seems that this is a duplication of backups and I only need the DAG DB’s. can someone confirm this is true and I only need to be backing up the DAG data and not the actual servers that are doing a file level backup as well. btw, I am using the passive copies in the DAGS. thanksChris

Isilon CIFS backup

Hello Community,I am a tenant admin in Commvault so I don't have access to Commcell or Java console. But I can add NAS, servers, virtualization. I currently have a problem with NAS backups from Isilon and each incremental job takes 7 or 8 hours. The data size is 1TB and there are more than 2 million files.I first added a NAS, i.e. Isilon (with array), using add server and then a CIFS subclient as backup source. Since we already started with version 11.28, I assume that the changelist for Isilon is enabled. But I don't understand why an incremental job takes so long every day. Strangely, I see that after a synthetic backup, the incremental job only takes about 30 minutes. But the next day it will take 8 hours again.I would like to ask if anyone has had a similar experience. Many thanks in advance.Thanks.

Hello,If a VM is being backed-up ( VSA backup ) from 2 different backup-sets using the same storage pool, is there any impact on the license consumed by this VM ? will there be a double ‘charge’ for it - per Front-End ( capacity license ) ?  Thanks

I am wanting to increase my level of understanding of the IntelliSnap Big Data backup and recovery process. I have searched the Community, Partner University, and knowledgebases, and documentation without success. Can anyone help with the followingProvide list of links or explanation that explains how this process works for backup and recovery and the differences between VM, San based Snaps, and COW(Linux Copy On Write). COW (Linux Copy on Write) Snapshots vs hardware snapshots, pros and cons Are there scalability limitations with COW snaps. A break down on what some of the options actually do when configuring the Big Data VMware snaps. The documentation either ignores or glosses over this. When using SAN Snapshots from a VM using Big Data (say mongo Idata agent), will I need to present the LUN as an RDM using NPIV. Is there a detailed method for doing this?

Problem with picking job for copy

Hello, I’m during the backups migration from tapes to disk library. I have encountered the problem with jobs that are somehow disabled. The retention of job is still valid. Auxiliary Copy is skipping this job.This is the error that I’m getting when I’m trying to pick the jobs for copy

Huge number of new files scanned

Hi,Is there a way to identify files by name and location who where during the file scan marked as new?We know they are not new as they the data backupped is low.The reason is probably a right or attribute changed as we also see no modification dates changed.Data is located on a network share on a Isilon using a Windows File Agent
