Dears,I have a question,In an organization, we plan to replace an MSL6480 (LTO8 tapes) with a new MSL6480 (LTO9 tapes) and decommission the old one once the new one is configured but the need the data on the old tapes. My question is what I need to do to make the new library read data from LTO8 and LTO9 Tapes successfully? Thanks for your support.
Hello,I want to delete a mount path after the migration. But when I try to delete it, I get error message saying:“Delettion is not possible. Reason - Storage has WORM data”Any idea what should I do?
Hello Community, I have some flow to automate. In my company we have second copy of data working as our DR solution. I would like to have possibility of change backup copy association from Storage Policy by API or QCommand to automate entire process. Please let me know which option is possible to perform in that situation. For example: Regards, Michal
Hi Vaulters,I have a question regarding a new full linux 11.36 config done entirely using the Command Center.I recently installed a Grid of 2 Linux Media Agents with each its DA SAN FC storage. I created a disk library with 2 mount paths and 2 dedup partitions. On the properties of each mount point I can see the path of the mount point of the Media Agent that hosts the block storage but I also can see a path “via network” from the other Media Agent. Anybody know the nature of this “network” share? Is that a dataserver-ip share? Anybody knows a way to use a good old NFS share between the 2 MA in a grid without the Java console?
We are a long term Commvault on-premise shop. We are starting to move some thing to Azure. So far we are backing those things up to our on-prem CV environment. For efficiency and time, I am looking to setup a few media agents and library in Azure to run and store the backups. I have reviewed the “Public Cloud guide for Microsoft Azure document, and based on it, I am planning to setup 2 media agents with a partitioned duplication database across them. For the Library it looks like Azure blob object storage is the way to go. I should be able to have both media agents access it. Is this similar to what folks are doing? For our on-prem we were using local storage on the media agents, and the paths were shared with each other. This design will be a little easier to manage, but I am a little worried about the performance of blob storage vs storage local to the MA’s I look forward to hearing from other folks with there Commvault setup and the cloud migration.Thank you,
Hi, We have holds configured in the storage policies to reflect backups to be retained for about 7 days, 1 cycle. Now, when I browse the CV_Magnetic folder, I still see V_## folders from years and months ago in them? shouldn't they be automatically deleted after the 7day retention period or am I just missing a configuration setting somewhere? Can old folders be deleted? Regards,Johana
I experienced slow incremental/synthetic backups due to limited throughput. I would like to understand if changing the default UNC path and indexing on the DDB will affect the backup process.
Hi, we are testing the file archiving on an isilon and the archiving itself works fine but it does not create any stubs.Error code: [72:106]Description: Warning: Job completed partially successful: Stubbing did not happenWe tested the same on a Netapp share where archiving and stubbing works fine.Does anyone have had any similar issues? Thanks
Hello, We have the following Secondary Copy to LTO9 Tape Retention configured across all our storage policies. I want to see what others are doing for extended tape copies to optimize utilization, based on raw tape media capacity, we are using more media than we expected due to the mixed retention not fully allowing the typical son, father, grandfather graduation. Also, does Commvault have a Media Calculator Estimator similar to Veeam’s?https://www.veeam.com/calculators/simple/vbr/tape TIA ! JR LTO9 Tape Copy 6-Month Retention(Basic Retention)Daily IncrementalWeekly Fulls--12-Month Retention(Extended Retention)Monthly Full--24-Month Retention(Extended Retention)Quarterly Full --
Hello,I'm trying to find a way to display the configuration of a copy that is part of a Storage Policy.Did anyone find a way to do this yet? Thanks,Br,Fred
Hey,I have some questions during preparation to migrate to the new MA.Before all this change I Matainance MA or Disable it. Which will be better ?I wanna replace OLD MA to new MA. So I use robocopy with /mirror and /copyall to copy DDB and Index( on the same place and disk letter). Then I turn off OLD MA and on NEW MA change IP and name (the same that have OLD),The next step is to install Commvault MA on NEW, and at the end of the installation, agree that there is a Client with the same name and replace it.Do you think it should work? And if something is wrong I have old Ma and can go back to him,
Ok, gonna post out here because I’m not sure where to go. I’ve logged a ticket, but I don’t think customer support is going to help me find out why all of our space is getting sucked up.First, thanks for reading. We are completely out of space and I have no idea where to start troubleshooting why. We went to the Metallic over a year ago for auxiliary copies (primaries are stored on location) and quickly used up our 45TB of space. 2 months ago, we purchased another 10TB and that is now gone as well.I just cant seem to find a process for troubleshooting. Could it be we are not reclaiming space? Are the backups not set correctly and doing a full every time? What jobs are taking the most space. I run some reports, but they are often just a wall of text that I can’t make heads nor tails out of.Anyway, I’m not helpless. I can follow some steps, but I don even know where to begin. I’ve only been around CV for a couple of years. But have a little experience with Veeam and Rubik. I’m used to 6 i

i am trying to configure intellisnap , storage array is powermax 8000 , and my media agents are hyperscale x nodes , having access to storage via fiber (SAN mode) i was going thru below requirements , if anyone can clarify doubts https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/system_requirements_for_dell_emc_powermax_vmax3_vmax_symmetrix_storage_array.html1> Solutions Enabler Licensing and BASE/Symmetrix license for all snapshot types - where is this referring , for the storage array or on media agent2> LUN masking records and views must be accessible from the host where the backup takes place. what is the host referring here ? 3> what is client and proxy computer , remote MA referring here , since we are using Hyperscale x nodes we are not planning to install solution enbaler on that, we already have solution enabler installed in one mahine can we use that , or do we need to install any package on itwhat is the best practise in my scnario , powermax with hyperscale x nodes
HiI'm not an expert user. After the automatic upgrade job to version 11.28.8, the backup jobs failes with the following error:Error Code: [62:308] Description: The media side mounted is write-protected. Source: backupserver, Process: cvdStatus: Mount ErrorLibrary Name: AutoDiskLibDrivepool: DrivePool(backupserver)1Drive: Folder_03.28.2019_11.26Media label: CV_MAGNETICFailure Reason: The media side mounted is write-protected.Under the library all mount paths have Read/Write AccessProperties for the mount path under Allocation policies are marked Maximum Allowed Writers.Tried manually upgrade to version 10.28.10, but nothing changed. This is a disk library, not tape. The library is about 89% full, but still have about 7,5 TB free space on the given mount path. How to enable read write?
Hello All,we have Mongo Sharded Configuration backup on COmmvault. We backup it daily full. As you know COmmvault take snapshot before backup and , It deletes snapshots after backup copy. When I check the client on Commvault there is not any snphot presented. But There are many snapshot taken by COmmvault on host. İs it fine if we delete them manuelly or how can we delete them? Commvault should delete them automaticly right? Hi CV Experts, We are on 11.32.59.As per default schedule DDBVerf configured in our environment. It is selected as Quick verification. But in 11.32 documentation, it is mentioned default schedule to run with “verification of existing jobs on disk”. https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/verification_of_deduplicated_data.html Kindly note,we have 1PB of data, so running ‘verification of existing jobs on disk’ shows estimated time to complete as more than one month. Can we run default schedule with Quick verification.Does it identify the corruption or missing in chunks on storage ? https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/data_verification_of_deduplicated_data.html
Hello World, I’ve recently replaced my media server and noticed my auxiliary copy jobs is getting this error whenever i try running the backup:User specified a data path which is not part of the data paths in the storage policy copy. Advice: Please specify a job data path which is part of the Storage Policy copy. Can see that the new media server has access to the library, but not sure what else to check.
Hello everyone,We still have some questions regarding IntelliSnap. I’d like to confirm if auxiliary copies made with IntelliSnap always use SAN and what requirements are needed to enable this functionality. We appreciate your assistance. 🥺🙏🏽Thanks in advance!
Hello everyone,I have a question about changing the Media Agent where I have configured DiskLib using to this the disk from my array. Now I want to refresh the MA to a new one. Could I for example move DDB, Index to the new MA and then reassign the disk from the old MA to the new MA and it should work fine or is there another way to do it more securely
I am experiencing significant delays with my backups despite having a high speed internet connection and no antivirus interference. I am unsure what might be causing this issue and would appreciate your assistance in identifying the cause.Could you please guide me on the best steps to diagnose the slow backup performance?
With the Big Data Apps Indexes that write to tape, what happens if the storage Policy is changed to write to disk ?
Hello Experts, We are in the process of replacing the Storage of primary backups and would like to take expert opinion before proceeding further. Our storage policy have StoreOnce as a primary copy (retention 30 days) and Tape library (retention 10 years) for the secondary copy. Going forward we want to replace the StoreOnce with Hyperscale-X for primary copy. The data on StoreOnce is copied to tape and we want to leave the StoreOnce for next 30 days to allow the data to expire. Now the questions are If we modify the storage policy and replace the StoreOnce with HSX, will we be able to restore the data on StoreOnce in next 30 days if required? If we create a new storage policy, how can we move the catalog of Tape from old policy to new policy? What is the best approach for this ?Appreciate your suggestions on this
Hi Commvault Community,I am writing to inquire about releasing space on a storage unit previously used for backups. Here is the context:The library was configured on a QNAP unit as a network shared folder. A Storage Pool was created for the deduplication database, and a Storage Policy was associated with it. All three elements (library, Storage Pool, and Storage Policy) have been deleted to clean up the shared folder. However, despite considerable time passing, the storage has not been freed up. Manual deletion of the folder contents is also not permitted.Steps Taken:Deleted the jobs in the Commvault console, but the shared folder still shows "Size on disk." Performed data verification and Space Reclamation; however, no storage was released. Deleted the deduplication database, but the folder information was not cleaned up. Attempted to manually delete the folder contents, but security permissions prevented this, even with the administrator account. Deleted the library, Storage Pool, an
Hi Team,According to the info below, I would expect Commvault to create a new DDB Store for the Database, but it did not. Are there any other criteria that are not matched for creating a new DDB Store? Any idea why this might be? Is there a way to manually create a DDB Store for the Database? Version: 11.32.65
