Storage and Deduplication

Hello Experts, We are in the process of replacing the Storage of primary backups and would like to take expert opinion before proceeding further. Our storage policy have StoreOnce as a primary copy (retention 30 days) and Tape library (retention 10 years) for the secondary copy. Going forward we want to replace the StoreOnce with Hyperscale-X for primary copy. The data on StoreOnce is copied to tape and we want to leave the StoreOnce for next 30 days to allow the data to expire. Now the questions are If we modify the storage policy and replace the StoreOnce with HSX, will we be able to restore the data on StoreOnce in next 30 days if required? If we create a new storage policy, how can we move the catalog of Tape from old policy to new policy? What is the best approach for this ?Appreciate your suggestions on this

Hi Commvault Community,I am writing to inquire about releasing space on a storage unit previously used for backups. Here is the context:The library was configured on a QNAP unit as a network shared folder. A Storage Pool was created for the deduplication database, and a Storage Policy was associated with it. All three elements (library, Storage Pool, and Storage Policy) have been deleted to clean up the shared folder. However, despite considerable time passing, the storage has not been freed up. Manual deletion of the folder contents is also not permitted.Steps Taken:Deleted the jobs in the Commvault console, but the shared folder still shows "Size on disk." Performed data verification and Space Reclamation; however, no storage was released. Deleted the deduplication database, but the folder information was not cleaned up. Attempted to manually delete the folder contents, but security permissions prevented this, even with the administrator account. Deleted the library, Storage Pool, an

Hi Team,According to the info below, I would expect Commvault to create a new DDB Store for the Database, but it did not. Are there any other criteria that are not matched for creating a new DDB Store? Any idea why this might be? Is there a way to manually create a DDB Store for the Database? Version: 11.32.65

Dear sir,I enabled the Worm storage lock on one of the production environments, but I don't know what effect it will have. I want to test what the WORM storage lock actually does on Hardware as well as on our backup data.Thank youWith Regards.

Dear sir,I am trying to enable the WORM storage lock on our test server but can’t find any solution ho to do it. Will you help to find the solution?Thank youWith Regards.

LTO 6 Tape is showing No data in New tape library LTO 9. backup is available on LTO6 tape

We have installed new tape library,  but  in the new library old  tape contents are not available  size is also showing 0 . in old library the barcode was 000882 but in new it takes name as 000882L6

Hi,Please anyone can help me to resolve this problem, i’m sure all of my mounts paths are online and i can’t find which mount path is offline as it not mentioned from the job itself

Hello, I’ve logged a case at Commvault support but.. they’re reviewing logs.. (🙄)https://support.commvault.com/Case/Details/241010-316 (for those that would have access to the case to spot the details of the issue). On a linux physical MA, with of course dedicated NVME disk properly setup with the lvm to have enough spare space to perform lvm ‘snapshots’ of the DDB volume, one of my MAs got a stuck DDB backup job during the night. The ddbbackup job has been killed (😏) and even restarted later (🤐) and as it was not working again server was rebooted, before another ddbbackup attempt was initiated. Of course, it failed. Then, I was called and looked at the problem, and (my gosh, sorry for that) CHECKED THE LOGS of the job… Right away I spotted that the ddbbackup was stuck upon querying ‘vgdisplay -v’ to get the list of volumegroups where the ddb volume is most likely configured. No need to get into details for this. So, something’s wrong with the VG/lvol. Then I issued the ‘lsblk’ command

My customers CV server has some hardware issues and OEM suggested to format the complete server. Now, There are only few NAS boxes whose old data they want to preserv and rest they can take backup from scratch and all those NAS boxes have a common Storage PolicyNow what is best way to achieve this?Assign LUN to Server Create new Storage Pool with a new DDB ? ( can we assign exisitign DDB to new pool?) Setup Secondary for this storage policy to new Storage Pool When AUX job is completed , take DR copy and deattach LUN. format server Rstore DR then how to brigngf back data from secondary copy..i am confused from herePlease suggest any other alternate method if possible  , NAS has huge data in TBs hence we do not want to start full backup.

HI,I encountered the following error as shown in the screenshot when performing drive cleaning. May I ask how I can solve this problem? Thank you.

Do we know where in object path is a job UUID?If whether we have any control over what UUID is used or is it completely random?

we migrated our file server around 30 tb which was backed up using windows server file system agent to netapp FS , what will be the recommended way to protect the netapp FS , if i add the storage array and taking backup does it increase the storage utilization ? will the dedup work which was taken using with file server agent , or ndmp without storage array added will be better

What is the easiest way to copy data from a LTO 4 tape to a LTO 8Both libs are availablePlease be so kind and provide a step by step manual

HiWe have primary backups directed to an Azure cloud library - in a storage pool accessed by 2 media agents with deduplication enabled.  I would like to know if its possible to create a second Azure cloud library for copies with deduplication enabled, using the same 2 media agents.  Any recommendations on config appreciated,Thanks

Hi,In Commvault’s document for configuring WORM Storage Lock for Microsoft Azure Storage ( Configuring WORM Storage Lock (commvault.com) )says: Microsoft Azure Storage Create a storage account and a container with version-level immutability support in Microsoft Azure Storage. Create a lifecycle rule to clean up previous versions of the deleted objects. For more information, see Blob versioning and Optimize costs by automatically managing the data lifecycle.  but the links to Microsoft articles on Blob versioning and optimizing costs are pretty general pages coverage all lifecycle rules. Could someone provide an example lifecycle rule in Microsoft terms? eg the Microsoft lifecycle wizard gives the options like Delete the blob if it hasn’t been modified in x days etc. it doesn’t seem to use terms like Commvault says “clean up previous versions”thanks!

I have two nodes with Shared Disk Library with SAN mouth path (OCFS2), I would like to know if my ddb's are correct, because each node has its own ddb(2TB)(local), if MA1 fails, how does MA2 work, if ddb MA1 is down.So would it be right for the ddb's to be shared between nodes?

HiI would like to execute a secondary copy from a S3 bucket to another secondary copy S3 bucket. I created and configured buckets and its working. But the issue is the mediaagent is in our local infraestructure and data travels a lot instead of going to bucket to bucket directly is any way to configure this ease or i need to put a MA in our AWS infraestructure instead of locally? Thanks!!Joan Mas

We are experiencing issues with our HyperScale cluster. Backups seem to be working, but we are getting the following error message during backup:Description: [Media write operation failure] [Dedupe disk media] [The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.]Source: SRV1092b, Process: cvdAt first it seems to be disk space in hyperscale, but I would like to know if there is any documentation talking about the limit space required to operate hyperscale.

Hi all,we need to extract some useful information from our commserve: we would like to know the total number of files (or jobs if number of files is not available) that have a retention greater or equal to 6 months and are stored in our libraries. Is there an SQL query or a report that can give us this information ? I don’t want to perform several queries on all the different storage policies that we have, I just need the numbers (if available).Any suggestion is appreciated,RegardsGianluca

Hi,Is it safe to run space reclamation with clean orphan data option checked when using cloud library and s3 buckets shared by multiple pools/DDB’s from different grids? Or will it clean the data from the other pools as there are no references to that data in the DDB being cleaned? Thanks

Hello,we have scenario that we have two Media Agent in an OnPrem Location for customer.ma01 is used for infrastructure Backup mainly VSA Backup etc.(direct connection to CS)ma02 shoud be used for Agent Backup (SQL ;SAP etc..) in Customer Network (direct connection to Clients / Connection to CS via Topology)ma01 with VSA Backup is working fine.ma02 if we select manually for Agent Backup also works fine, but for scheduled Jobs always ma01 is selected and not ma02.So we found following Additional setting:https://documentation.commvault.com/additionalsetting/details?name=PreferredMediaAgentGroup“ PreferredMediaAgentGroup“We activate this Additional Setting on both groups for MA and Agents with same value “ma02” but it does not work still ma01 is picked. Question: Has anybody used this setting or can explain what we do wrong the explanation in documentation is not that clear: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/setting_up_client_and_mediaagent_pairing_for_data_protection_operat

Hi, Was wondering if there’s a report I can use that will list server, database and all the restore points we have available. I know I can go into each database recovery in the portal and use the calendar but we have 5000+ databases so looking for the raw data if poss. Something like this would be great, if it exists.   Many thanks

We are experiencing a behavior only in some full jobs of a particular schedule, this happens in protected objects, the error messages are Remote I/O error, what we have detected is that the next incremental backup takes the objects that marked error in the full backup, we have moved the schedule backups but the failure continues, the backups are directed to disk libraries, has anyone had this behavior that can help us solve it.
