Good day i hope you are welli am struggling in terms of re-adding windows file system backups on commserv.the steps i took is re-installing the content store on a rebuilt server and setting up the configs for file server and point to commserv gateway. when running the final install to register, it said that it will register ;later with the gateway server due to the fact that it is in maintenance mode. i also did create the windows client on Comserv under client computers and when clicking on reconfigure, i dont think it linked properly with the content store from the rebuilt server.please help
Hello I need to provide an isolated/test environment (with IP masquerading etc.) to perform set-of-VMs restores on regular basis (like Veeam SureBackup) For Command Center I can use Auto-Recovery feature with “Test Failover” option but as far as I can see we can only use Live Mount (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.38/essential/testing_failover_for_periodic_replication_group.html)How to perform such isolated & automated test with regular streaming restores instead of Live Mounts? Production/source VMs should remain online and untouched during the test. I am aware that I can achieve something like this with old-fashioned Virtual Lab managed by deprecated CommCell Console https://documentation.commvault.com/11.38/expert/creating_restore_as_lab_policy_for_vmware.html, but I want to follow brand new Command Center ;) Any thoughts or findings will be appreciated. Kind regards,eMF

FR 11.32 A FREL.ova needs to be deployed via CommandCenter. documentation:Configuring Deployment of the VMware Image in an Offline CommCell Environment Save the Access Node and MediaAgent (FREL) OVA file directly on your primary access node as defined on the Hypervisor client within its configuration tab.Does a possibility exist e.g. a key that I can deploy from another access node than the primary?I know the several other methods to deploy and we cuurently try to change the primary access node but this is not the goal. Thanks in advanceJoerg
Hi all,This question relates to v2 indexed VM backups. I’m running out of ideas and wondering what special reg keys might exist to somehow force the “auto” synth full schedules over more days than the rolling schedule based on retention). In this case we backup 3000+ VMs, most of which use a single plan but multiple VM groups/subclients to split them up by datastore. This used to work OK before moving to plans as each subclient would or could have its own schedule policy. My question is what do you guys recommend to split the synth fulls up ideally accross 7 (or 14) days given that is the retention? Basically becuase of how things were discovered, migrated, etc., there are days of the week where 1000 or more synth fulls run and many days where none run, so, that’s the issue trying to solve.I thought about derivative plans but I’d still need to futz with every one of them via console to undo the “auto” schedule and force particular days of the week.OR are some or many of you just running
Is there a way to either report on or configure alerts for CBT failures? Right now, the only way we can catch them is by seeing that the job is running longer than expected. Running 11.36
Hi,I and facing this error “ Error Code: [23:10]Description: Error while reading pipeline buffer from MediaAgent [ndcma].Source: ndccommsrvvsa, Process: vsrst ” while want to restore the VMs but backup is running smoothly.Could you please tell me why this issue occurring? Regards,Shuvo
Hello everyone,I have a few questions regarding the use of VSA proxies. We have a medium-sized Commvault on-premise infrastructure with around 1,000 virtual machines and 100 TB of consumed storage. We are running on Nutanix AHV, and my colleague has deployed five Linux VSA proxies and five Windows VSA proxies. However, these proxies are sized as small or even extra small in some cases.I don’t really understand the need for so many VSA proxies. Is it really useful to have that many? And is there any benefit in having Windows VSA proxies? From my understanding, Linux proxies are better integrated with Nutanix AHV, right?I also noticed that during full backups, the proxies experience a very high load average, often exceeding 8 or 9, while they only have 2 vCPUs.What do you think about this setup?Would it be better to increase the resources on the Linux VSA proxies and remove the Windows ones? Thanks in advance for your insights!
Hi Team,We are experiencing an issue with one of the servers, which disconnects from the application at 5 AM EST every day. Upon investigation, we found that a snapshot removal operation or disk consolidation of the backup snapshot occurs during this time.We have a scheduled backup at 5 PM EST every day during non-business hours. However, Commvault triggers the disk consolidation operation at 4:58 AM or 5:00 AM EST every morning, causing an outage on the server during this time.Is it possible to change the disk consolidation window/schedule/pattern?
Just abit baffled by how to create backup plan for vm groups called domain controllers . we need to have daily backup with retention period of 35 days and also vm group of same machines run every month with retention of 365 days . i created daily incremental backup Plan as well as monthly incremental plan , but dont know how add the vm group to both or is there any other way . Thanks ( please see below table). The enviroment is vmware virtualization Service/System Historical Period Recovery Point Data Retention Recovery Time Domain Controllers 0 to 35 days 24 hours 35 days Next business day Domain Controllers 35 to 365 days 1 month 365 days 3 business days
Reason for my question is Broadcom/vmware deal. Our Customers ask if Commvault supports ProxmoxDocumentation.commvaut.com 11.34 show that PROXMOX is not supported.Research in comunity shows a two year old topic where someone asked the same question. Two year are a long time so I want to ask if and when Commvault plans to support Proxmox? Thanks in advanceJoerg
Hello!I am new to comvault and currently working on a project to backup our VMs. As I have been slowly adding VM backups I have noticed that the current capacity is going up as it should and we are currently at 19.8TB out of 23TB and that is what we are licensed in backup and recovery. I got an alert saying we are over 80% utilization so I went in a retired and then deleted a few of the VMs that I had done but the capacity hasn’t gone down. How to I delete the backups that were done for those VMs or will it eventually remove the data? Also I noticed on the dashboard the the current capacity is 23TB but the total disk storage space next to is it 32TB and we are only using 7TB. What is the difference between capacity and storage space?

Hello Commvault,is there a plan to support “virtualize me” on OLVM and RHV ?regards Juergen
Hey legends, Hope you’re all doing great! Always appreciate the insights from this community. Got a quick one for you.We got Commvault VM replication running for a SQL VM with an RPO of 4 hours—kept it that way since it’s crash-consistent, and we already got SQL agent backups (t-logs every 15 mins + daily fulls) covering us. Need to run a bubble test, and Commvault suggested a test failover + SQL restore, but the failover VM spins up with the same IP as prod on an isolated network. cant move it to routable network as we can’t have it talking to AD/DNS since there’s no firewall or ACLs to block it, so we’re thinking of using a proxy with dual NICs: 1 on isolated network and one on MA/CS network This should let us restore SQL data to the test VM without exposing it to prod. But would the failover VM still route through CS/MA and reach AD/DNS? We only want restore traffic going through, nothing else. Can we set up a one-way tunnel in Commvault to allow restores but block all other traffic?
Hello, 2 days ago we performed an upgrade from Commvault 11.28.131 (2022E) to 11.32.76 (2023E) on a Windows 2019 server.Everything went fine, no errors.Immediately after that, during nightly backups, we noticed an unexpected behavior, Commvault issued some errors on VMware VMs backup jobs (done with Intellisnap).Commvault is trying to backup some but not all VMware Linux template and the job completes fine for others VMs, and with the following error for the templates: " Template VM is not supported for Intellisnap. " The whole VMware infrastructure is hosted on NetApp 9.12.1P11 clusters.Datastores are added in the subclient content.Any ideas on the origin of this issue ?Thanks in advance.
Hi, we seem to have failed job on backup due to an error Description: Error opening the disks for virtual machine [XXXX]. Verify that the correct transport mode is selected. Error: SecureChannelFailure (Unable to read data from the transport connection: Connection reset by peer.) See http://kb.commvault.com/article/63206 for additional information.Source: xxxx, Process: JobManagerwe followed the KB above but already set to Auto we tried couple of other solutions to no avail . Any suggestions as this has been running smoothly . our other site running on same config . All i did recently was changing MTU size for our hyperscalers . But this is done for other intact site . This one seem to have been effected and not sure what other thing to look for
Did a vmwarebackup (vCloud director 10.5) yesterday on a new server that has windows server 2019 and sql server 2019. During the backup (app consistent snapshot), commvault did not report anything wrong with the backup job what so ever. But in the OS, all disks except c drive was lost, they where still visible in vmware but not in the os and rescan in disk management did not work.Event logs was not very informative either other then “unexpected error” messages from sql.System writers reported no errors on all expect “system writer” that reported [5] waiting for completion and SqlServerWriter reported [8] inconsistend shadow copy. And still after i killed the job and the snapshot was removed, there were no disks showing up but after a reboot they were back. The vm it self is up to date on hw version and vmware tools, windows updates is also fairly up to date. I have been around long enough to know that it is i that needs to figure out whats wrong since from the vmware admin perspective thi
I’m having issues doing a restore of an encrypted Azure VMWe can backup the Azure VMs encrypted and non encrypted. We can restore non encrypted VMs. But not with encrypted VMs.I have a support ticket but so far I’m not happy with the support I’m getting.I was told to create a new Azure KV which we did but still having the issueI was told to add the key vault entry in the Commvault → Control Panel → Key Management Servers… still not working and also is this necessary? I’ve never found documentation pointing to this when doing Azure VM restore. In the access node logs for vsrst.log17388 470c 01/22 10:49:51 3122047 VSRstCoordinator::SummarizeVMList() - VM xxxx-restore3 --> STARTED 100%17388 1dc8 01/22 10:49:52 3122047 Checking for keyvault [kv-xxxxx] in location [australia]17388 1dc8 01/22 10:49:56 3122047 InitEncryptionSettingsForKey() - Key vault is not found in destination region. Hi Team,Backup failing with error “Error opening the disks for virtual machine [up0022alli_UCS_Central]. Verify that the correct transport mode is selected.”Initially Transport mode was: NBD. It will fail sometime, but will get completed using the same transport mode.Later changed it to Auto: Again its using NBD. Similarly sometimes failing sometimes completing.
We are facing a issue with gust files restoration steps getting too much time after 95 % to take the Disk drivers page. Some time error occur for something went wrong. what is the possible cause of this issue.
Hello Commvault Community,I hope everyone is doing will. Commvault support recommended rebooting our VMWare, VSA access nodes to resolve the high number of VM backup failures errors below (x4 access nodes):(1) Could not read data from the virtual disk. (2) VDDK thread timeout, possible VDDK deadlock encountered After the reboot, I created a test subclient adding four of the affected VMs. he backup was kicked off manually. Rebooting the access nodes appears to have worked. The backups are running with no error. I have a large amount of VM jobs Queued because of a blackout window (7:00am 5:00PM). These jobs are configured to use the recently rebooted access nodes. I noticed some of the VMs under the queued jobs have the errors listed above. Question: Should I kill these jobs and allow a fresh scheduled job to start or will the Queued jobs reset the VM’s that have errors? Thank you.
Can we apply vm disk filters on Intellisnap jobs Also how do I validate that the filtering is being applied; do I have to run a syn full or full first before it gets applied? I am trying to filter a disk out as we are already backing it via file system it resides on a data store I am choosing VMDK Name/Pattern option[DatastoreA]*/*Test_P01_1.vmdk
the customer uses VMware “tagging” for multiple purposes. One of those purposes is to inform Commvault as to what VMs to back up and how to back those VMs up.
We are migrating VMs from VMware to Hyperv and after migration we are doing some changes in the backup configuration like creating multiple Virtualization clients for different Hyperv cluster, VMs are moved and backed up in to separate sub-client. My question is afterAfter migration from VMware to Hyper-V does the first backup converts to Full backup? If the sub-client is renamed does the next backup converts to Full or only if the clients are re-associated with different policy.
