Deploy Standby CommServe Server

Hi there! Could you please address me to the right procedure how to deploy Standby CommServe Server? I have found this page  (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/128066_deploying_standby_commserve_server.html), however we have no HyperScale Appliance it is just ordinary Commserve Server So, if I want to deploy Standby CommServe as DR site in case of speed failover, should I deploy the Standby CommServe as written there (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/106129_installing_standby_commserve_host.html) In general, is deploying of the Standby CommServe host time consuming process or is it more intuitive task?

Laptop unable to connect to Edge Drive from an external network

Hello Commvault Community,  Maybe you have an idea why there is a problem connecting to the Edge Drive via a laptop from a network other than the internal one. Unable to connect an off-site laptop to Edge Drive. Laptop is not added to Active Directory, it works in a workgroup. Authorizing access through the Edge Drive configuration to a domain account. An error with authorization to the given user account appears in the logs (the account and password are entered correctly, the ability to log in to the webconsole). Access infrastructure via DMZ and installed server with firewall issued port 8403. Network topology - network gateway (laptop) configuration between defined Laptop Clients groups and Commvault infrastructure servers. If the laptop mentioned above is on the internal LAN then everything works fine. There seems to be a problem handing over communication from the Webconsole server in the DMZ to the Commvault on the internal network. In the attachment I am sending screenshots from

Hello,I have a question regarding this procedure (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/105913_installing_feature_releases_on_standby_commserve_host_and_sql_clients.html).Should be the point 2 ( From the Command Center, install the feature release or the maintenance release in the Standby Commserve Host and the SQL clients in both the production and standby CommServe hosts as follows ) run completely from the standby host?

Hi, one of my customers just noticed that after and upgrade most of the Data Protection Schedule Policy have double ! Original one : O365, duplicate O365 - Clone ? And in the Description is written Automatically cloned by system and the association count is higher in the clone one ! And ideas, should he just open a support call ?

Reinstalling / Moving / Migrating Commvault to a new Domain & Hardware

Hi!I am looking for any advice, tips, pitfalls to avoid, things we should consider and such, with regards to plans for getting from the current commvault installation, to a planned new commvault installation. Current Installation:5+ year old (but updated) installation, with 1 virtual commcell, and 4 physical media-agents, 2 in each datacenter. Physical HW for both the media-agents and the storage are reaching their EOL in 2022 and needs replacing.The Commvault environment is currently in the production domain. New Installation (planned):New installation, with 1 virtual commcell (or possibly clustered?) and 4 virtual media-agents, 2 in each datacenter. The Commvault environment and the underlying virtualization servers for the Commvault CS/MA VMs should be in a completely separate domain from the production domain they are taking backups of.New storage will be 25Gbps iSCSI (or NVMeoF or NVMe/TCP) based.  Now, the question is i guess, what would be the most sensible way to get from A to

How to install vsa agent -requirements

Hello,I have installed Simpana 11.20 on commvault backup server srvbck (on this machine is also installed media agent which serves backup on Tape library)Also I have four virtual machines, vsa-agent (which is installed on Citrix virtualization platform) and another media agent htmmediaagent1 which serves backup virtual machines.The backup is located at the htmmediaagent1 server location.I should add more virtual machines(which are located on different virtualization platforms) for backupon the Tape library. Then another media agent would be used for backup srvbck… My question is:Do I need to have another vsa agent installed (on other virtualization) to back up virtual machines to the Tape library?Do I need to have a separate all agents installed on for each virtualization?Thank you!Best regards,Elizabeta

aux copying incremental VM backups to tape

Can someone confirm from Commvault that in the case where DASH fulls are ran along with incrementals and the tape copy is synchronous, does the aux copy job (from disk to tape) essentially make it possible to restore any VM to the point it was last backed up, regardless of whether a full or inc happened last? Meaning it does not have to stitch together all sorts of incs. but rather takes the guesswork out of it so similar to restoring from disk, whenever you tell it to restore “to” those incremental jobs seen in the tape copy are essentially “fulls”? This is what I see when browsing media and comparing full jobs to inc’s - same exact file sizes and content for each VM. I didn’t think the intelligence was in there but at the rate the tapes are being consumed, it does indeed seem like every inc is basically converted to a full before writing to tape.Is that observation correct? If so, that is perfect.thanks

Update Status section in Client Properties that Need Update?

When viewing a list of Client Computers, one available column value is Update Status which will show Needs Update when necessary. And when viewing the client computer properties, the Version tab shows some more info.Previously when I was running 11.13 in Version tab, there was a section that shows Update status and shows a table of various packages and hotfixe updates that need update. But since upgrading to 11.21, that section appears to have been removed. I’ve attached a screenshot showing that section in the older and newer builds of the Version tab.Just wondering, in 11.21 and newer builds, is there an area where we can see the Update status table showing the packages and required hotfixes?

Backup Networks (DIPs) issue...

Hi.. Setup:- Two Client groups.- One client group contains clients- One client group contains Media AgentsA Backup Network using CIDR is configured according to: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=107131.htm The Media Agents have multiple IP addresses in different networks ofc... They have an IP address for the frontend (to which the CS connects to) and one for the Backup Network. Both of these IP addresses are statically assigned.. Clients ofc have multiple IP addresses too... One for the frontend (to which the CS connects to) and one for the Backup Network. The frontend IP is static, but the one for the backup network is a DHCP one. Dumping such a client into the client group sets up the DIPs as expected according to the Network Summary seen on the MAs. Backup also works as expected using the DIP.The issue is that when a client changes the IP address on its backup NIC, it doesn't seem to be updated on the CS or MAs. Backups stop working as the MAs try to cont

Changing root password for HyperScale on reference hardware

My company has adopted a new standard for service account passwords:  Min 20 characters, must contain uppercase & lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.  My current password for the root account on the three nodes of the HyperScale on HP reference hardware does not meet the new standard so I have to change it.Does anyone know how to change to root password on these three servers?  Is it just done via the Linux command prompt or is it done through the CommVault GUI somehow?Thanks in advance for any information.Ken

Virtual Operating Instances using TB license

Hello, I have a question about calculation and usage TB license. We purchase 71 TB and 2000 Vm license. But now we are above our TB limit license. I understanded that all physical should use TB license and VM's should count under Protected Virtual Machines. In our case we using Windows File agent to back-up some of VM's but they counted under TB license. Under the client properties i do see Virtual Machine Properties TAB, that mean that client discovered by VM, but still using TB license. here are some exapler:

Restore from Commcell Migrated Tape Library

Hi, I am performing a Commcell Migration and in the source Commcell there is a TapeLibrary that we need to migrate to the target Commcell. My question is if the historical data will be available for restores (i.e tapes will be migrated/re-labled as well).  And if using the option “Allow imported media to be reused on this Commcell” means that append will work once the TapeLibrary is migrated or if it is read only and tapes will be reused (moved to scratch) only once all data on them has expired. Regards, /Patrik
