Hello Is it possible to get an alert when the automatic SQL instance discovery discovers a new SQL instance?I would like to get some sort of alert of when this happens to insure that no new instances go unnoticed and unconfigured.If it is possible how do you set it up?  

Hi Vaulters.I have a customer that implemented backup replication from prod to DR. Now, they are asking if they can configure their existing DR replica of the backup as their air-gapped copy. Is this possible?If yes, is there any documentation that we can check to do this?Thanks in advance!

Hello, I would like to duplicate VSA subclient under VMware pseudoclient.Based on Commvault documentation, I did the step of the following page: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=106064.htm Unfortunately, when executing the “qoperation execute -af clone_subclient_template.xml” command, an error occured, saying that VM tags are required to perform the subclient duplication. Do you have a proper documentation link or XML template to duplicate a subclient and how can I manage the dynamic content based on VM tags? Thank you in advance, Best regards,

There is a requirement to check 90 servers backup status (Servers belongs to different policy domain). Is there any best way to do it because I am following below method where I have to include the server name one by one. 

I have a client who has SQL admins using WAC to launch backups/restores for their day to day changes, db refresh, devops, pre/post-change backups, etc. outside of the control of backup environment. They developed these procedures without consulting data protection team, storage team, security team. WAC launches scripts from the client server with a generic account, for anyone with access to the client.In the scheme of things it goes unnoticed when you have ten thousand plus backups running daily. However this causes problems over time with unanticipated storage requirements, retention of nonproduction DBs, failed scheduled backups, etc. Not even going to go into regulatory and audit implications. I have two camps, one that wants to remove this unapproved use the backup infra for SQL production purposes and another that wants to secure these procedures. Oh the DBAs don’t want any change.Any thoughts out there in CV land? I wish to remain impartial, but the security aspect is worrisome. 

Hi,After a power failure the tape library is showing offline with the error initializing device failed. I restarted the Commvault server and the error went away however the drive is showing a media but in actuality it is empty. I can’t mount a tape since Commvault thinks there’s still a tape inside the drive. How to resolve this issue?

In the job summary report, what is the difference between Application Size and Media Size

I have read a couple or articles on CommVault Online that say defragmentation of the Magnetic libraries is a good idea. Diskeeper, now Dymax IO, was listed as a certified product for online volumes. I am wondering if others defrag theire libraries for performance purposes, and what products they use. I have read in older articles that the native windows defragmentation tool can be used. Also it states that it should be done outside of backup hours (makes sense). Any feedback or information would be appreciated. Thanks

Hallo CV community, recently we got this error while using the SAN transport mode with auto scheduled jobs. Failure Reason:·  ERROR CODE [72:106]: VDDK Version 6.5 is required to back up virtual machines on hosts running ESX 6.5 using SAN mode. The VDDK will be auto updated on the next attempt.We are usingVMware vCenter ServerVersion:7.0.2.00200Build-Nummer17958471Any ideas regarding this issues. BRPhilipp

So we recently had a run in with a database issue with our VMware client, which made us not allow us to add or modify new/existing subclients. Although i never got a straight answer as to what caused it, the rep was hinting that we had way to many subclients. My question is two fold; How do we properly and efficiently group them together inside the virtual client, and if we have for example 20 vm’s together inside a subclient, if one fails, how do we backup that individual failed vm without having to re-backup the other 19 that were sucessfull? We have a tape enviroment so backing up redundant data is something i am trying to avoid.

I am looking for data on restores. Specifically we would like to know how many days back the data is from the day the restores was ran. I am not able to locate something in Commvault that will give that data. Knowing this information about the restores our company does would help us size tiers of backup data. For example how long to keep data on fast storage before it is moved to another tier.Thanks!

Hello Guys, I need your help. I am deplying a VM protection (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization) in the Customer’s environment.The Customer has the following configuration:  CS and MA are located outside of Internal Network.RHEV Manager Server is located behind the Firewall.VSA Proxy is a part of the RHEV environment (VM running Linux OS) I created a Client Group called ‘DMZ’, then I put the VSA proxy to this group.I also set the Network Route for DMZ group as follows:From Infastructure Group - BlockedThen I set the Network Route for Infastructure group as follows:From DMZ Group - Restricted (port 8403) Is anything alse that I need to do to create a RHEV pseudo-client?Do you think that this Firewall configuration should work or maybe I should set the Firewall in different way? Rgds,Kamil

Hi,from one of our customers we have updated the commvault environment from sp12 to sp20. After the upgrade, the customer noticed that during the restore jobs of microsoft sql database, in the job details events window, the various steps of the restore are no longer displayed, but only at the end of  the job the complete/failed event appear. Hello,I recently downloaded a report called Job Statistics from the Commvault Store and when I import the report it doesn’t seem to link up with my system and shows no information.  I have had this with another performance report.  I don’t see anything in the store that tells me I need to change anything.  Has anyone had this issue with reports?  Am I doing something wrong?  Any help would be great.In the store its called Job Statistics - Release Date Aug 2, 2019 - Version 1.1.2.3 - Author CommvaultThanks again in advance for any help with this.

Hi everyoneI’ve got a bit of a strange one. I’ve created a Plan and in there I’ve defined PostgreSQL as the backup target.I’ve run through everything as I need it to be and the plan is successfully created.However, the schedules don’t run as I get the below error (tried to manually start the schedule too): ‘failed to start backups as no eligible subclients were found’ If I backup the DB from the subclient level, I have no problems. I’ve not assigned anything in the default created subclient policies, so not sure what else may be the issue here?

Hello,i did a full backup of all my databases, as i see from Commvault:How long it took each database to do?

We have a request to backup and archive a share on NetAPP device;  we have a Windows MediaAgent with direct attached storage onsite.   I was wondering what is the best approach.  Also, does anyone know a 3TB of Data would consume how much of Index Cache? I can configure the backup to occur either via NDMP  or via Windows share(utilizing a windows proxy proxy) and then configure Archiving to occur as a network share.  Shall I configure Archiving first and then the backup or should it be other way around both would go to a library on the onsite Mediaagent.Benefit or archiving first would be smaller backups Benefit of Backup first would be if something happens to the data on library we have a aux copy of full backup at our end     also, say we setup archiving to the local Mediaagent connected libraries; and these libraries fail for some reason (hardware error); how would stub recalls work?  Or if we need to replace the existing Mediaagent with a new one; usually; as we have a aux copy; we

Hi, I install recently Hyperscale 1.5 Reference Architecture on my 3 HPE Server, but i discovered then version 2.1 exist on Hyperscale X. What is the difference between these 2 versions? This is the same version but more recent or 1.5 is used only for migrate appliance to reference achitecture? Thank you for your help!
