Importing content into the ContentStore Mailbox from previous jobs??

Legal wants me to move only part of our old Exchange Compliance Archiver client generated compliance archive over to the new Exchange Mailbox (ContentStore Mailbox) solution.Is it possible to repick the jobs I need, and send them through the new Exchange Mailbox client to add them to the content index?If not, is the best solution to just export the content the want to bring over and add it to the SMTP journaling ContentStore mailbox?Thanks,Collin

Data deletion(retention) on cloud storage

I had setup a scheduler to perform Full backup everyday and the storage policy associated to it has retention of 0 days and 1 cycle. I had run the scheduler manually twice on the same day, data backup is successful but the first data backup is not deleted from cloud storage yet.

WORM - add and/or remove associatons is not possible

Hello,Error: Failed to update storage policy copy. Cannot update copy with override retention when storage pool is using Storage WORM lock property set.It is only possible to add/remove associations when we remove the option of WORM storage lock?I know the procedure.@Commvault feedback: It is maybe better to make possible that we can add. (not remove).

Commvault 11.20.82 on Windows 2012 R2. Best Upgrade Path to upgrade the OS?

Hey everyone, so as the titles states we are running Commvault 11.20.82 on win 2012 R2. Right now we are just considering doing the OS upgrades as 11.20 is still LTS until 2025; but if there is simple way to do them both without breaking anything that would be great. From what I understand this is an agentless setup, with Commvault talking to the hypervisor/vcenter, and the server being a VM itself backing up to netapp storage. Let me know what you guys think would be the best way forward or point me in the right direction.

Hi,i have create a new client to backup my AD. The DC is a virtual machine on vSphere.I have installed the AD agent and file agent.I see there a VMInstance:What is that? On my old DCs (also VMs) i see this: When i release the license or delete the VMIntance the next day it is back.RegardsDennis

AD browse doesn't work

Hi,on my new DC (behind an internal Sophos firewall) i have installed the AD plugin for commvault.When i try to browse i can’t see the content of my AD.On other DCs (no FW between it) it works fine.The network admin says that nothing is blocked.He catches the traffic from DC to Mediagent and Commcell.What can causes this?RegardsDennis

Problem with block replication

I have a problem with block replication. 2 physical servers with windows, on the third one I have RP store. On each I have a CV agent. The data is replicating but without recovery points. Synchronization status - Replicating, with problems, Failed to open RP Store, will continue replicating in latest recovery mode until RP Store comes back online.BLrSvc error is 150:127 Can't find any solution for this problem.

Slow Synthetic fulls and best practice or places to learn

Hello Everyone,Currently our Synthetic Fulls that do our weekend backups are taking way to long and putting our system at risk. They run well into Wednesday and they kick off on a Friday Night. I have seen other posts about simultaneous Synthetics slowing down the system and we do have them running against one business server, however the way they were setup before my time each job is doing different sections of that drive. I am trying to determine how to alleviate this issue. Would SSD drives for our Media Agent help, we currently still have old mechanical drives installed. Do we need to throw more processing power at the Server itself? We are trying to roll into Metallic to replace tapes and at the speed the backups happen even if we can get our system to send to Metallic instead of tapes it will be so many days behind if we do have an issue we are pretty much dead in the water. VMware CBT and Full backups

Hello! I know CBT is a VMware functionality that Commvault and other backup softwares use. Netbackup leverages the advantages of CBT on both full and incre/diff jobs. Does the same apply to Commvault? Check this doc from NBU: https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/21902280-127283730-0/v27791754-127283730Backup of entire virtual machine, with full schedule: Backs up only the blocks that have changed since the .vmdk was created. Note that the blocks that are not initialized are excluded from the backup. Backup of entire virtual machine, with incremental schedule: Backs up only the blocks that have changed since the last backup, as follows: For cumulative incrementals, BLIB backs up only the blocks that changed since the last full backup. / For differential incrementals, BLIB backs up only the blocks that changed since the previous backup of any kind. Domain/Forest recovery- has anyone actually used this?

There are AD plans available in commvaut- but that only backs up the objects. The only way to get the full backup is a system state- which is not included in an AD backup. There is also a test workflow within the command center that will test the forest recovery. My questions is - has anyone had to actually do a domain restore? Im not talking Bob’s account that was deleted, but an actual domain controller restore and domain restoration. I would love to hear about it.

IntelliSnap - Aux Copy partially completed or with errors

Hello,I have a storage policy which has different types of sub-clients associated with it as shown below. Majority of vCenter SubClients have single datastore as its content and some have VMs as its content. All the datastore are on NetApp storage volumes and we have IntelliSnap integration.Storage Policy has following copies:Backup Copy is disabled so no jobs are going to Primary (Classic) copy and neither any jobs are queued for backup.Some of the associated subclients are perfect for aux copy to B4 in terms of availablility of snapshots, jobs, snapmirror relationships but few of the subclients have issues like primary snapshots beyond retention, some snapshots deleted from storage or issue with snapmirror. Now the AUX Copy is not completing, it completes with errors. No issues reported in AuxCopyMgr.log.Should the subclients which are perfect for Aux copy complete or it needs all the subclients in the storage policy to be ready for Aux Copy to complete? Commvault Linux package creation automation

Hi Folks,we need to create quite a lot of custom packages (rpm) for linux clients on a regular basis (SAP-Oracle, SAP-Hana, Linux-fs, and so on.)We are currently doing this via ./cvpkgadd and then clicking through a lot of pages until the custom package is finished at the end. is there a way to automate this process via some command line where all necessary options (most of them can be left at the default value) are provided (which packages to include, to which commserve to connect to, ...)?Thanks for any ideas on this :)

Should sso.commvault.com have tfa/mfa ?

Hi everyone, Commvault is starting to offer solutions for customers to restore their operations under the metallic flag. One of them is the restore of your CommServe using a DR backup, if you enabled the cloud upload. This got me wondering as accessing data from our Commcells or other data behind sso.commvault.com does not require tfa/mfa or offers the possibility of enabling tfa/mfa. Especially in the use case when we talk about our DR sets containing encryption keys to our encrypted public cloud storage (S3, Azure, metallic storage, gcp storage, etc) I think we could be running quite a risk here. What is your take on asking for TFA/MFA on sso.commvault.com? Personally I think Commvault should enable it sooner rather than later, but curious to hear other perspectives.

StoragePolicy tiering or moving backups older than 6 months to different storage

Hello community,We have Storage Policy which keeps all backups for 30 days and monthly backups for 18 months all on the same storage.To free up some space, we could create another copy pointing to the cloud to keep our monthly backups for 18 months. Then we would have 30 days on prem and all monthly backups in the cloud.Now, a new idea has come up to keep 30 days on prem as well as 6 months for monthly backups.And when the monthly backups are 6 month old, the should be copied to the cloud until they are 18 months old and removed on prem.Is there a way to delay the copy of the monthly backups for 6 months?

Commserve Upgrade - Best Practices

With all of the cool features coming in our Feature Releases, I thought it would be handy to create a list of Best Practices for planning and Performing a Commserve update to a higher Feature Release.There’s definitely a lot of Proactive work that can go into your process that will save you from potential headaches or even nightmare scenarios!Check out the Planning documentation first Plan the Timing out in advance - Make sure any key stakeholders know the CS will be down during this planned upgrade Do you use any type of Commserve Failover? If so, note the instructions for those differ accordingly. Upgrading Hardware as well? Review the documentation on Hardware Refreshes. Suspending jobs - Ideally, have no jobs running; though some jobs can be suspended and resumed after others cannot be suspended and must be killed. Check and Double check that you have the Media Downloaded or if you are using the Commserve Software Cache, that it is updated with your required Maintenance Release.
