CommServe license validity check failed

Hi, I tried to perform a an upgrade of Commvault from 11.20 on server 2012 to a different VM on server 2019 running version 11.28 and SQL 2019.  I installed and try to recover from the old database. I am getting an error in the CSRecoveryAssistant file log,  Error: License activation is required. Please provide a valid license file.I am confused as I backed up my existing environment. How can I get past this as the Install is dependant on me clearing this error?

#PostgreSQL cluster restoration - restores incorrect configuration

Hello Team,Here is the setup information,OS type: SLES12Affected DB version: v11 and v13 4 nodes running on streaming replication method (SYNC). Scenario: We have 4 node cluster running on SYNC replication method with cluster_name parameter configured on each data nodes (like node1 → cluster_name=’node1’) and so on.Now that, we have successfully taken the backup along with some archive logs. Backups are ran from primary (node1). We performed all the pre-reqs before we started the restoration on node1. Restoration went fine without any warnings, however we happen to see that the restored postgresql.conf on node1 had below entry,cluster_name='node2' where we expect it to have 'node1’ Kindly check and confirm this behavior. Regards,Kamal

Hi,i have 3 Windows Server 2016 recovered with FileAgent incl. Systemstate……After succesfull recovery i restart the server and now the server runs in automatic repair.Is there a solution to solve that?RegardsDennis

Bulk restores of hundreds of jobs

Hi,I need to bulk restore hundreds of small jobs with some kind of batch or CLI.What do you think is the best way to achieve this?It should be as automated as possible. There are only about 6 Windows sublients, but around 1200 jobs. Every job is from 1 single day.Restored data should go into some kind of automatically created directory structure on a SMB share with one folder for each date.I saw there is the button with “save as script” to get a script for a starting point. But I thought there is maybe another better solution. I saw there is also a Python SDK for Commvault.What do you think?

Write indexBackup to separate scratch pool

right now, I have backups to disk. and once a month, backup to tape as well.The indexServer backups follow the same storage policy and will write to tape as well, but often it will just use a new tape from the scratch pool and ‘waste’ a few tapes for very little data.I would prefer to consolidate all indexServer backups to a single tape in a different scratch pool.That way, our monthly offsiting will include only one index tape instead of multiple index tapes with barely any content.I’ve created a seperate scratch pool with the appropriate barcode pattern, but how do I configure the index backups to use that scratch pool?

Fully disassociate a moved SAP HANA Client from its old Storage Policy

I have a SAP HANA Client named HANA_CQN which was previously using an old storage policy named SP_Tier2. I created a new storage policy named StgP-Tier2-ECDC and I migrated my SAP HANA Client to this new storage policy by changing all the Storage Device Storage Policy Property settings to this new storage policy. But when I view the Properties for the old storage policy SP_Tier2 under the Associated Subclients tab, I see that the SAP HANA Client named HANA_CQN still appears in the diagram. The diagram indicates that the client is still associated with the old storage policy because of the fact that it belongs to two Client Computer Groups. But looking at the properties of the two Client Computer Groups, one group involves an automatic association query of 5 storage policies including the 2 storage policies in this case. While the other client group is an individual manual addition. And as such, there doesn’t seem to be a direct connection between the Client Computer Group and the indiv

Deduplication re-enabling not visible

Hi there, Two days back with my seniors, I created a disk storage but unforeseen disabled deduplication. After giving artefacts to my client for that disk storage, they are asking today to enable deduplication but now I am not getting option to toggle deduplication button to enable except delete disk storage. And production data written onto it in the two days.We tried using command center. How can we enable deduplication for future backup data. Is it possible? Please advise. Hari

Can we install tape unit drivers from Command Center.

Hi there, Please advice, can we insert cleaning tape in tape library from Command center. I am not getting option or may be I am not able to find it.I am aware of CommCell console but not of Command center. We can add drives, zone MA with TL. I am novice to CC, therefore taking help and guidance from experienced persons to learn. Hari

I am new to Commvault backup, I have some doubts being a novice.

Hi Commvault team, I am learning Commvault from YouTube videos but having some doubts.Please mentor me.Can we install Command center on Linux machine. While restoring VM(s), we require vCenter server or ESX using VSA. Can we use “activate” section to find redundant data on client computer configured in CommCell. Do command center support SAN disk and cloud storage (S3) [as new tech. storage] or it uses “tapes” [Traditional] too.

restore a DB from within sql management studio

Hi :) Is it possible to restore a DB from within sql management studio when using commvault for backup ?  I can see restore point from within the management studio but when I try to restore it cannot as it looks on the E drive and thats not where the backup`s are located. They are located on an isiloted storrage media, do you know if it is even possible, would be nice if some admin users where able to restore without contacting the backup backend team :)Br Martin

VM backup that is completing is not showing up

VM backup that is completing is not showing upThe Commvault software was removed from CLIENT1 and we added the CLIENT1 to the VM backups.I am backing up a VM in Commvault named CLIENT1  but I am not able to see it in any client groups.We are able to view all other VM’s not named CLIENT1.

Media Agent Server Consuming VOI License?

Hello!I have a newly deployed Commvault environment for one of our customers. We have 10 VOI licenses to cover 10 VMs being backed up by this solution.Recently an extra VOI license has been consumed bringing us over our license threshold. Upon investigation I discovered our Media Agent server is now consuming a VOI. In the license summary report, the media agent server is displayed under the “Current Virtual Operating Instances” table but is not shown under “Virtual Operating Instances - current usage” table, so I am not able to pinpoint why exactly it is consuming the license.The Media Agent server is not shown as protected under virtualization, file servers, databases, etc., and should not be. I did notice that the “Virtual Server” agent is installed under the CommCell > Servers page.Currently this is not an issue as we are still within the evaluation period, but I would like to solve it before it becomes one. Any help is appreciated! Commvault version: 11.28.32

NetApp SnapDiff v3 requirements

Morning,We’re moving to ONTAP 9.10, which means only SnapDiff v3 is supported.  In the CommVault docs I can only really find what CommVault versions support v3, nothing really about what needs to be configured.I’ve seen from other topics here, that our commvault user needs an “access tokens” role on the NetApp, is there anything else that we need to look out for?Thanks.

AD account login issue to Commserve Console

Hi, We are currently running 11.24.48. After the upgrade from 11.24.29 to 11.24.34, I was unable to log in to the Commcell Console using my AD admin account.Web Console works fine, and I can log in there without any problems.For the time being, the only way to log in to Commcell Console is using a local admin account. Is there a parameter or a setting that prevents us using our AD credentials since 11.24.34? Upgrading to 11.24.48 hasn’t solved this issue.Thank you,Zoltan

Linux Media Agent limitations

I am looking for a comparison between Windows and Linux media agents. I have done some testing between the two and not seeing anything that will make me say “Yes, we need to do Linux now!” I am actually seeing that I would have to deploy additional infrastructure for items like Live Browse if I went to Linux as Windows proxies would be needed.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

How to keep the latest backup for decommissioned VMs

Hello everybody,hope you had a good time and wish you a great 2023!Let me ask you a little question. We are about to decommission few VMs out of about two hundreds running on a vCenter, therefore we are planning to stop backing up them, but we would like to save the latest full backup for six months. How would you do that?One idea could be to create a dedicated subclient with the VMs being decommissioned, associate it with a new storage policy with six months retention copy and finally run a manual full backup.Is there any better (and smarter) option?Thank you!Gaetano

Remove Commserve and MediaAgent from Windows Domain. Has anyone actually done this?

We are needing to remove Commserve and MediaAgents from the Windows Domain.I found the below post in the community. I was wondering if anyone had actually done it and what was your experience? Hello, I have a subclient named Bronze (Vmware client), backed up with Storage policy SP-Bronze since 1 year no issue.We make incremental daily backup, One weekly synth full backup.a week ago, I changed the Storage policy to SP-Bronze2.I ran a full backup manually > OK, incremental daily works good but when the synth full occur in the week, I have this error message Error Code: [62:396]Description: Error writing to the media.Source: pcpl98a00j, Process: cvd Thanks !

DDB disks upgrade
