Running DB2 agent level backup, backup size is about 1.9TB. Four tablespace, one tablespace is about 1.2TB. First hour backup performance is good(about 250Mbps), Commvault is backing up the 4 tablespace in parallel. From 2nd hour, Commvault only backup the huge tablespace, backup performance is only 100Mbps with one session.How to backup one tablespace with multiple session? or any other way to improve backup performance?

On all of our storage plans we have an auxiliary copy that is uploaded to an S3 bucket, we have been doing some DR scenario testing recently which has involved  failing over to our CS server in AWS.How does the indexing work when doing a browse and restore operation? We have no index server in AWS however for the restores i’ve tested (when using the S3 data copies) it appears to be running a restore job & completing successfully, is the indexes stored in the s3 buckets?

Hello,Trying to test Azure file share backup and restore from on-prem Commcell using MA on Azure.Adding a new content group and browse the content of the storage account gives no results even though content is there ( on zure side ).Credentials were set properly ( Account name  + Access key ) and the file sahre entiity can be accessed.  Any ideas ? Thanks

I have two media agents and a DDB. The ddb has two partitions spread across the two ddbs. I want to decommission one media agent. is there a correct way to do this? i haven’t found a document on CV support that seems to cover this specific scenerio.

server a/b is VCS cluster databases will be running on only one node at a time, currently databases are running only on server “a” node and only if database failover happens databases will run from server “b”. as per DBA it’s not RAC, how to configure the oracle backup for the same. 

Hello, One of our customers approached us with a PostgreSQL cluster (active-standby). How can we best set up the backup here, since Commvault cannot create a backup from standby.Kind RegardsThomas

Hello,We have backup server  CommServe Simpana version 11 on Windows sever 2012 R2 Standard, and we are planning to migrate the commserve from win server 2012 OS server to new hardware Windows server 2022E.But, we have a problem with a low space on backup server 4,39GB free of total 67GB..I have noticed that SoftwareCache is C:\Program Files\CommVault\Simpana\SoftwareCache is 15.5GB.Is it recommend to delete that SoftwareCache to free up space on old backup server?Best regards,Elizabeta

So I created a job summary report from the commcell GUI, filling in all items abd adding it to be scheduled. The report is created a a CONSOLE report. But when I look at the result in the scheduler it’s been, magically or by commvaults visdom, changed to be a job summary webreport. Nothing noticed me about the change and in the GUI there is a specific selection to create a Job Summary as a web report.Where can I find the announcement of this change?? The web report contains loads of informatiuon I don’t need, so now I have to go and build a new customized web report? Where as the GUI report had an easy click “summery” I need to create a new report with just that info.If anyone can point me to that “one button” on the web report I’d much appreciate it. I understand that Commvault is trying to make things easier and more streamline, but that defenetly is causing issues in some areas, specificlly if one is used to the more granular control of the environment.BRHenke  

Hi folks,I’m a relatively new Commvault admin so I’m learning a lot of this as I go. My teammate and I were tasked with testing a back-up to S3 storage hosted by our overarching IT dept. We set up an aux copy to go to the S3 bucket, did our testing, and now I need to clean up the remnants of our testing in the Commcell Browser. I’m not sure if I can just “right click and delete” or if there is a proper way to remove everything.Here is what we have:Storage Resources > Deduplication Engines: one related to the S3 storageLibrary: there was one for the S3 storage, but this was removed at the conclusion of our testingStorage Pool: one related to the S3 storageStorage Policy: one related to the S3 storage, a second one under our main storage policy related to the S3 bucket (the actual aux copy)The part that I’m a little worried about is the ddb for this test ended up in the same folder as the ddb for our global copy policy, so I don’t want to accidentally delete the ddb we need when delet

Hello, We want to enable Software encryption on Commvault and in the documentation, I found that all encryption keys are stored in the Commvault Databse. Can we also have the possibility to store these keys on another place (cloud, server, vault ) ?Thank you in advance for your help.Best regards!

Hi ,i have schedule a monthly full backup on every month 1st , and there is extended retention for monthly backup set for 6 month ,  but i have read the below i want to know which backup will be selected for extended retention is it the one i scheduled or automatically the based on the start time ?A backup job will be selected for extended retention based on its start time. For example: If a backup job starts at 11:55 pm on August 31st and ends at 1 am on September 1st, then it will be selected as the last full backup for the month of August and will be picked up for extended retention i want to know which backup will be selected for extended retention is it the one i scheduled or automatically the based on the start time ?

Moving to a new NAS for our file system. How can we ensure STUB data is copied and updated? We use Robocopy.  

For some reason, there’s a setting that I cannot locate to disable Automatic Maintenance Release Updates. I know this happens because when I login I get an Information dialog box that says, “Commserve is at version (11.28.56) and Commcell console is running on version (11.28.44). You must install the latest updates on this client to use it effectively.” Does anybody know where this is located?

IHAC who has a requirement to encrypt all data in-transit for CV.  They use encrypted disks so they only want to encrypt data in transit for all clients.  There does not appear to be any way to do that globally. 2 questions….. Can we turn on in-transit encryption across the commcell? Should we just use the CC level force encryption across the board and not worry that the disk drives have HW encryption enabled (ie. There is no risk to double encryption) Thanks, Phil

Hi, Following documentationhttps://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/97847_privacy.htmlit’s possible to configure Privacy on Commcell or Company level, but recently customer made a case that this won’t be ideal in their environment and they would rather apply it on user group or plan level. Since documentation doesn’t mention it, I assume it’s not supported, but wanted to ask here anyway in case there is some hidden magic setting that allows it. So I guess the question is: is it possible?

Hello! I’m being tasked to simulate a DR for a system (server and DB) from tape exclusively. I’ve only done normal restores and I’m not sure how/if I can do that from a tape while having the backed up data on my disk library. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have several of the CommVault reports (notably the “APSS - Missed SLA Report”) keep referring to clients and virtual servers (backed up with the Virtual Server Agent) that are either deconfigured (if a client) or removed from the VM group (if a VM).Is there something I need to be doing when removing a VM from virtual server backups, or deconfiguring a client so these do not show up on reports?  I’m not sure why 100% of all deconfigured/removed VM’s are not showing up on these reports, only “some of them” Note: some of these were “last backed up” in 2015, 2019, 2020, etc. they all indicate “No Schedule” or “No Job within SLA Period” as the “reason” which is 100% true as they have been removed/deconfigured a long time ago.

Hi, There is an option to assign users or users group to a plan, but recently customer made a case that they are more device-centric then user-centric when it comes to assigning new devices to employees. They asked if it’s possible to assign devices to plans based on hostnames rather then users/owners. I would really want to help here, but I’m not aware of such option. Please let me know if it’s possible or not.

Hello, I was wondering what would be the best option or settings to backup windows file servers. I see that block-level is an option, with a few restrictions.I also see that, creating multiple subclients for the folders under the file server drive could speed up the process. Is that is? Any other thoughts?Thanks
